Love all of the vets and office staff at EVA! Dr Johnson also brings a fresh perspective as well as the newest technology and healing modalities. Can't say enough good about the whole team - lucky to have them local!

The Medical Red Flag: Years ago, I brought my dog in with classic Cushing's symptoms. My concerns were dismissed because her initial blood work was "normal." It took a year and a different vet at the same practice to finally listen--by then, the disease had already caused serious damage to her liver and kidneys. While the staff was compassionate during her end-of-life care, the initial delay in diagnosis was a hard pill to swallow but Cushing's is difficult to diagnose so I reserved judgement. The Final Straw: Today was the breaking point. I brought my other pet in for a painful growth that they previously told me to just "watch." Despite years of being an on-time customer, I was 12 minutes late due to local school traffic (which was 100% my fault, not theirs). I was immediately hit with a $17 "late fee" that was never disclosed during booking. The Bottom Line: This clinic has no problem making you wait 30+ minutes in the lobby or exam room, but they will penalize a long time , loyal client the moment the tables are turned. When your pet is in pain, you want a partner in care, not a business that feels like it's nickel-and-diming you at every turn. I could see if I had a history of late or missed appointments. I don't and given the track record, would have appreciated a warning for the next time. But now there won't be a next time. If you're looking for proactive diagnostics and a practice that values long-term clients, look elsewhere. There are better options nearby that prioritize the animal over the late fee.

Erika Carillo remembers my pets like as if it was yesterday and Dr. Englehart always reads my other cat's chart from his cardiologist. They are quick to work with insurance and are very thorough. Dr. Carillo caught my cat's early stages of HCM through an x-ray when he came in for constipation! I have noticed some staff changes recently, and I might be biased since I LOVED her old front desk people, they were quite nice. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Dr. Carillo and how she remembered my cat, Soup. Pros: thorough, flexible, and quick with insurance. Cons: a bit pricy, but to be honest, you get what you pay for. I understand that not everyone can afford payments, but I believe they are willing to work with you.

Our new puppy was pooping blood and we were very concerned about that. We wanted to get her in right away. Thankfully, this veterinary hospital had an appointment. The veterinarian was great. Very thorough with explaining testing and treatment. They ran bloodwork and requested a stool sample. We got some prescription probiotics for her to take with food. The bloodwork came back good. Just waiting on the stool sample results. In the meantime, the prebiotic and probiotic powder is helping. This is a very good veterinary clinic. They were super professional and seem to be very knowledgeable about canine health.

This review is long overdue. I've been bringing my dog, Chelsea, to OC Veterinary for 10 years,…read moreever since I moved her down from the Bay Area. Chelsea recently passed away at 17, almost 18. She had such a long, happy life because of the care she received here. Chelsea was my baby, and I know how hard it can be to find a good vet. Pets can't talk, but you can see when they are genuinely cared for--and Chelsea got the best care at OC Veterinary. From the receptionists to the doctors, she was loved by everyone, and I am so grateful for that. Chelsea saw both Dr. Horn and, mostly, Dr. Nikki--both are exceptional veterinarians. We saw Dr. Nikki the most, and we had a very special connection with her. After Chelsea passed, Dr. Nikki even reached out to check on us, which was incredibly kind. She is practical, compassionate, and everything you could want in a vet. Chelsea also saw the groomer, Heather, who was very gentle and careful with her. Chelsea had back issues and was an older little lady, so it was comforting to know she was in safe hands. Sandra and Steve also made a big impact on Chelsea's life, especially Steve. They cared for her like she was their own family. Steve even called to check on us after Chelsea passed, which meant so much. I'm sorry this review comes so late, but I feel Chelsea would have wanted me to write it, and I want to honor her memory. No one enjoys visiting the doctor, but I am so grateful that we found such a wonderful facility to care for Chelsea. I loved her with all my heart, and after our family, OC Veterinary loved her most.

On February 16, 2026, I took my dog in for a rabies shot and paid a $65 exam fee. However, I felt that the doctor did not conduct a thorough check-up. The doctor checked my dog's heart and discovered that he has a heart murmur. He suggested that we do a chest x-ray, but I did not have time that day, so I asked to return on another day. The very next day, I called to inquire about scheduling a chest x-ray for my dog since we had just seen the doctor yesterday . I asked if the exam fee would be charged again for the chest x-ray, and the receptionist informed me that I would need to pay the $65 exam fee again to see the doctor before the x-ray. I don't understand why another exam is necessary just to perform the chest x-ray when we had just been there the day before. Instead, I took my dog to 5 Points Companion Animal Hospital in Huntington Beach, where he received a thorough examination. I was able to get the chest x-ray done there as well. When I asked the receptionist at 5 Points if I could return at a later date without being charged another exam fee, they told me it would be fine as long as I came back within 30 days. This experience with Garden Grove Dog and Cat Hospital has made me feel like they are more focused on making money rather than providing quality care. I will not be returning to this clinic.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! I had the most HORRIBLE experience ever!!!!…read moreDr. Esther Yang. I highly advise you to reconsider your position! This woman LIED and ABUSED my cat! My cat Steve has been having issues with his private area, he over groomes the area until the skin is bleeding. And he won't stop so he's been wearing a pillow cone. I was worried that night because he reopened the wound again and this has been happening for a little over a month which has been a bit long. He's also has a history of urine issues, stones in his bladder. He didn't pee that day and I was worried so I take Steve in, he gets admitted. The doctor comes in, she quite literally lies to my face. And she's very condescending as she speaks to me. She says she did an ultrasound on Steve and shows me random photos on her phone of an ultra sound, no name of the ultra sounds or anything, no professional photos on a computer or tablet. It honestly looks like they were from google. she said she did an ultrasound on Steve but there was no leftover gel or moisture on his stomach, she also said that she did not see his wound on his private area, which it's big wound, you literally can't miss it, it's bleeding and everything and then she told me that it was a me problem because she did not see it. How did you perform an ultrasound on a male cat of his bladder, which is on his quite literally near his private area and then you tell me you did not see a big wound of blood and raw flesh on his area??. That and she said that Steve scratched her... Steve is declawed (was not my choice) So tell me, how did Steve scratch her? She said she was not going to help Steve or even take a look at his area after I protested I would help because she wants to consider her safety. I told her that I am willing to hold Steve if it means that she will treat him so bring him in the room so I can help him. Then she has the audacity to tell me that no she will not comply with that because it's for my safety as well as Steve is "violent". Cats are often misunderstood because they are terrified but that does not mean that they should not get the help they obviously need! I was so upset and angry. I asked for my cat back, AND IT GETS WORSE!! When she was handed Steve back to me, he was in his carrier, but his carrier is only designed to hold him, it's not snug, but it only fits one cat. When he was returned to me He was stuffed in there with a large towel and a large plastic cone. He was practically stuffed in there like a stuffed animal or pillow or toy. I couldn't get the towel out or him out through the opening so I had to take apart the whole crate just to release him. When I did, Steve was being choked by a leash that was wrapped around his neck. I was crying at this point cause I felt like a terrible owner, taking him to this awful place! So they didn't look into him. They lied to me about attempting to help him, but they didn't , on top of that they wanted to put him on anti anxiety meds, an antibiotic, and other forms of chemical sedative and depressants for his bladder. It made me so angry because how are you going to "treat" my cat but you're trying to give him a bunch of chemicals without proper evaluation??!! Unfortunately, I had to pay for the admission which was almost $200 but I took him and I left. another note is that when the nurse was charging me, she did not charge for an ultrasound. So that prove to me furthermore that he never had an ultrasound. And the doctor came out as I was trying to leave and tried to persuade me to buy the medications and kept going to Steve carrier trying to touch him. So tell me if Steve is as "violent" as she said and Steve "scratched", why in the world would you try to come near him?? They never looked at him. They never treated and they were still trying to give him unnecessary medication. I called to make a proper complaint and they said they would get back to me. PLEASE BE AWARE!!!
