To preface this review, I have a sixteen-year-old chihuahua mix, Suzy, with heart disease, history of pancreatitis, early stage protein losing enteropathy, and arthritis. I adopted her three years ago. She had had a dental with the rescue and was left with several missing teeth, as well as an oronasal fistula. I myself am an RVT at a general practice and I had my doctor repair the fistula. Unfortunately, it failed, which I knew could happen. Suzy overall still had a good quality of life, so I left it alone. A couple months ago, I was hit by the dental fairies and I decided I wanted to take care of all of my dogs' oral health. I went back and forth about putting Suzy in particular under anesthesia again, given her age and existing health conditions. She was doing well and I did not want to mess with that balance. But, I knew the procedure was doable and, if I wanted to get her teeth cleaned and radiographed, why not attempt to repair the oronasal fistula again? And so, I scheduled a consult at Veterinary Dental Specialties. I went in telling myself that this was just going to be a consult; I did not have to rush to schedule anything. Well, I met the staff and Dr. Furman. And my resolve flew out the window. The front staff was so sweet. Michele got down on Suzy's level, greeting her and giving her treats. She had Suzy doing her little tippy taps, like they were best of friends. Suzy's very anxious brother, Chauncy, had come along for the ride and even he was feeling social and happy. I had never seen him so bold in a new place! Dr. Furman, too, also got on Suzy's level (which is very low to the ground) during the consult. Suzy has an old jaw fracture and does not like her face touched. But, Dr. Furman was able to put her on his lap and take a look. He reassured me that the fistula repair could be done and that the success rate was high. He stated, too, that he often works on geriatric patients and that they have an anesthesiologist decide on the best protocol. Fast forward several weeks and it was the day of the procedure. My appointment was at 8:00a and I got to wait for Suzy. As before, I was very impressed with the professionalism, efficiency, communication, and customer service. After the imaging was done, Dr. Furman showed me the CT, which was a cool experience. The treatment plan was clear and was in line with my own methods of practicing. I was not pressured into pulling borderline teeth or to try and fix Suzy's jaw. I felt very confident trusting my old girl with the team. I do not know what the schedule looked like, but it seemed like the focus was only on Suzy and we were not just a number. On top of that, I myself also felt very taken care of. I was offered coffee and snacks while I was waiting. Suzy's nervous brother also got some treats himself. By 10:00a, an oronasal fistula repair and four extractions later, Suzy was recovered and I was able to take her home. Suzy received some hard drugs, but some magic occurred at her procedure. Within a few hours, Suzy was eating and ambulating appropriately. (To put that in perspective, it took her two days to show interest in food the first time around, even without any extractions.) It has been a few days since Suzy's anesthetic and I can tell she's been feeling amazing. She's lively and energetic. She's not coughing or sneezing anymore. I have been sharing my great experience with colleagues, friends, and anyone who will listen. Thanks again to everyone at VDS! You all are amazing.

Several years ago I had a consult for my Zsa Zsa with Dr. Furman. Zsa Zsa was about 17 at the time and had chronic kidney disease, a delicate situation. In addition, she was only 7 pounds. I needed the best and since Dr. Furman has a dedicated anesthesiologist, I felt I was safe with him. We scheduled the dental and the night before, my girl came down with pancreatitis and we had to postpone. Sadly, not long after, she passed. The office was wonderful about the last minute cancelation. I have a new girl that I just rescued: 15 year old Daisy, also small and with liver disease. Dr. Furman did her dental this week with the assistance of Dr. Hahn, the anesthesiologist. Daisy did just fine. I want to thank the doctors, nurses, and office staff for everything. They went above and beyond.

Around later 2022, my little 11 yo Chihuahua Sox dental hygienist stated he had loose teeth. So I checked around and everyone was booked and finally tried this vet dental clinic , although 35 miles away , proceeded to use their services. The clinic was very clean and organized. They did X-rays, they can do EKG , and lab works too . His dental vet is Dr Furman. Everything went well. It's a pleasant experience although I'm nervous since anesthesia is involved. By the following year for check up, their clinic has occupied the next office space making the clinic wider. Price wise , it's on the higher end , thank goodness for insurance and Care Credit.. Came back the following year for cleaning only to find another tooth is broken !

I am going to preface this with: I am a crazy dog mom. My 8 year old Golden is my entire life and is my best friend so I would do anything for her, to give her the longest, healthiest, and happiest life possible. Stella had two dead teeth and I noticed the canine one pretty quickly. I knew it needed to be dealt with so I took her to the vet. The vet recommended this place. At our consultation, literally almost every vet tech they had came in to say hi to me and Stella. I was already a crying mess but they made me feel a lot better. I really was hating the idea of having her go under anesthesia, but was reminded that this procedure is very routine... this is their job and they do this every day! They checked all her bloodwork, her heart and even have an anesthesiologist check as well. We had to wait about a month after the consultation to get her appointment for her surgery, just enough time for my anxiety to continue to grow . The day finally came and I was so anxious and nervous. Dr. Furman and his team made me feel at ease and very comfortable, again. She went in for surgery at 2:30 and came out wagging her tail, high as a kite at 6:15 pm. She slept it off and has been recovering perfectly. The team has called to check in and Dr. Furman has texted to make sure Stella is recovering well. Finding a vet and their team to be compassionate and caring, was a MUST for me and my dog. I am so glad I was referred here and I highly recommend coming here for your pet's dental needs. This was a very pricey procedure, but you get what you pay for. High quality and specialized treatment. Highly recommend!! Thank you so much for dealing with me and making this stressful situation into a more calm one for me and my pup!

I was recommended to take my dog to Veterinary Dental Specialities by my dog's neurologist. My beagle, Rylee is six years old and has epilepsy so I was so incredibly nervous to put her under anesthesia. She had so many issues with her teeth that brushing them on a regular basis wouldn't solve, so removal was the only option. When we had our consultation with Dr. Furman, he completely eased my anxiety. He answered all of my questions (and trust me I had MANY), but explained the entire process so well to me. I felt very confident that Rylee would be in great hands. The entire staff was super supportive on the day of surgery since I was a nervous wreck. They checked in with me, assured Rylee was okay and her procedure went amazing. Dr. Furman did an excellent job on her teeth, removed the infected ones and treated Rylee and me with such kindness. I truly wished I did this sooner because Rylee is doing so well!

We had a pleasant experience at Dr Furman's office. The administrators were friendly and attentive during both of our visits. Doctor showed himself as a knowledgeable and experienced specialist. I was very emotional on the date of the surgery because of anesthesia. Our cat is 5.5 years old and his EKG and bloodwork are good, but I couldn't help reading sad stories from the internet. It's a bit relieving to know that dental surgeries are a routine work here, and they have happy clients with older pets. It's my cat's second surgery due to the tooth resorption. The first surgery went well at a different clinic (VCA Pet Point) but we were still referred to Dr Furman by our beloved primary vet because we needed another surgery relatively soon (6 months apart). We like that you know exactly when the surgery happens and everything took about 2 hours, I believe. No waiting in a cage while other patients are getting their surgeries. Tip from me: put a harness and a leash on your wobbly cat after the surgery so you can safely monitor them for the next couple of hours

Jax just out of surgery. He only had one tooth left and it was chronically infected and Dr Furman had just taken it out.

We were referred to Dr Furman by the owner Carrie of The Spaw (Tustin).Carrie being an ex-vet tech herself, said this is the ONLY Dental Specialist she recommends&I am very glad I listened to her her!Let me start by saying for years,I taken my dogs to The Spaw for their grooming&she started offering"non-anesthesia" dentals cleanings.Prior to every cleaning, she has a vet do an exam on the pups. Her vet found a boney mass on Winston's lower jaw. They contacted me&said they would not be able to do his cleaning&recommended I schedule w/ my vet (Backbay Dr Fanous) for an anesthesia cleaning w/ X-rays to determine what the mass was.My vet, Dr Fanous told me he did not feel comfortable doing a jaw biopsy on such a small pup&he referred me to a Vet Specialist (who I did not see).I called Carrie&she referred me to Dr Furman. Here is where Dr Furman comes in.Nervous about my Winston, I called&spoke w/the receptionist Veronika. She listens,is thoughtful, helpful&caring. She booked my consult which was several weeks out&assured me that if there were any cancellations to come in sooner, she would call me.AND she CALLED...several times until we found a date that worked.I think it was about 2 weeks after my initial call&about 3 weeks sooner than the actual consult scheduled. The consult went well&I also brought in my 14 yo Jax as an emotional support dog for Winston.Jax also had a dental problem but I was told he was too old for anesthesia&nothing could be done.Well, Dr Furman looked@him too(as a courtesy)&guess what...he said,"No problem, I do this all the time."I told him about the other vet's concern about putting him under due to age&Dr Furman responded "There are only a few certified Vet Anesthesiologist in the state of CA&I have one of them working for me.I put elderly, medically compromised&special needs dogs under General anesthesia on a daily basis with no problem at all."So not only could he clean Winston's teeth&do the biopsy,he would also remove Jax's canine, debride&pack the socket to protect the sinus cavity, thereby healing the infection that Jax had been on antibiotics for the past year (and would have continued on for the rest of his life). Jax is healed&is so much healthier now.We definitely extended the life of our beloved Yorkie. And our Winston, well, he came out of the surgery with flying colors.I could go on and on.Dr Furman only treats one dog at a time.He comes out to talk to you once they have been put under to reassure you that your dog is doing ok.He then discusses his findings once the X-rays are taken&they are sleeping where he can do a more complete exam.He then does treatment&personally brings your baby out to you after surgery! On top of all that,he sits in the lobby with you to discuss the aftercare, gives you his cell number for any concerns once you get home&calls that evening to check in on his patients.I am a HUMAN dental hygienist of 20 years&this guy is very skilled.I wish I could work with him.And yes, I called him that night when Jax sneezed out something very yucky, only for Dr Furman to reassure me that that was residual debris from the long-term chronic infection.Going to any specialist be it human or veterinary costs more than seeing your regular doctor. But, I will TELL YOU that this experience was WORTH every penny!!!!Lastly, they give you all the fees up front so there are no surprises. Now,if you have taken the time to read this LONG review, you must love your pet.I have EXCITING news....WINSTON does not have bone cancer!! Woo hoo!!!

My dog right after surgery- yes there is a little blood coming out of her mouth which is normal- but she was fine the next day.

Dental surgery is expensive- period. However if your dog needs critical dental surgery Dr Furman is probably one of the best in Southern California. My toy poodle whom is 15 years old was diagnosed with kidney disease this spring. She was doing so bad that I thought she would die and not make it to summer 2022. I did a lot of research on kidney disease, joined Facebook kidney disease dog groups, etc. I read one post of one owner who also had a toy poodle whom was 15 and got dental surgery which changed the dog's life. All the bacteria in the bad teeth/gums worsens the progression of kidney disease. However a dog being that old- its a risky proposition. Put them under to possibly save their life or risk putting them under with the possibility they may not wake up. I chose to roll the dice and put her under even though so is almost 16 years old. Therefore an amazing dental surgeon was critical. There are few experienced licensed vet dental specialists in Southern California whom are AVDC board certified- maybe 10. You can go on the AVDC website to look at those that are. You can have vet dental surgeon do your teeth or just your vet but few are AVDC. I researched all of them near Los Angeles and Dr Furman's was the fastest to get me in. Even though I live over an hour away from Dr Furman's office, time was critical with my dog, due to her age. I did the consult and looked at other dental surgeons -even those closer to me- and to be honest- his price was actually lower than one that was a non AVDC surgeon. Dr Furman you can tell is very experienced and does this all the time that the age of my dog didn't seem to be a factor. Nor were her conditions- kidney disease and she also has a gallbladder tumor. He felt confident she would be ok. Its been almost a month now and my dog is doing great- almost like she has decreased her aging for several years. His staff is amazing and very on top of everything including billing, communication, etc. I will admit it the surgery was expensive but it was money well spent. I can now rest at night knowing I did everything for my little baby to make sure she lived the longest she could. The money I spent is nothing in comparison to the love I have gotten from her the last 15 years. I highly recommend Dr Furman if you need an expert veterinary dental surgeon.

    Post surgery

Dr Furman and his staff are absolutely amazing. Our sweet GSD had a tumor above her k9 that needed to be removed along with 2 teeth and bone. From consult to post surgery, the entire staff was very attentive and kept us updated throughout the entire process. You can tell they truly care about your fur baby. I will definitely recommend!

I recently had my Lab, Jackson in for an evaluation of his teeth. He had an issue a year ago that was not resolved. I am a veterinarian and I was able to have quality dental x-rays done of his teeth. Those x-rays were not able to show his dental problem. The problem seemed to resolve with the use of antibiotics but recurred after a year. I was then referred to Dr. Furman. With the use of his CAT-SCAN, that is especially designed for dental use, Dr. Furman was able to diagnose Jackson's teeth issues. Dr. Furman did and excellent job repairing those problems and I now have a new companion. Jackson is now feeling and acting years younger. I would highly recommend Dr. Furman and his practice to all my patients and any other person seeking veterinary dental care.

Dr. Morgan is calm, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. He took the time to listen to my concerns, asked thoughtful questions, and handled both of my dogs gently and with real care. You can tell he genuinely loves animals and takes his work seriously. The exam felt thorough and never rushed. Dr. Morgan explained what he was checking for, what he was seeing, and why it mattered. He made sure I understood everything in plain language and gave me a clear plan moving forward. I appreciated that he focused on practical, reasonable next steps and answered every question I had without making me feel dismissed. What stood out the most is his honesty and integrity. Dr. Morgan did not push any unnecessary treatments, testing, or add ons. There was no pressure at all. He was straightforward about what was truly needed versus what could wait, and he offered options while respecting my comfort level and my dogs' needs. It is rare to find a veterinarian who is both highly skilled and also so ethical. I also want to add that I drive all the way from Oceanside because Dr. Morgan is that good. That should say everything. I trust him completely with Juicy and Kendrick, and I'm grateful we found him. Everyone here has given me and my dog Kira nothing but love, care, consideration and understanding. I rescued my dog Kira from an unfortunate situation when see was what we thought was 4months. Upon our first visit, Dr Kwon right away let me know that she was closer to 6months. Because this is a private practice and essentially a family run vet, Dr Kwon was able to Kira and I out with what was within my budget. He genuinely cares and wants to not only help, but provide the best course of action/treatment that makes sense for your animal. Over the next year, not only was the puppy package that is available at this animal hospital essentially almost all inclusive (I was lucky because Kira was healthy and we didn't need anything outside of the long list of things that were included in that package) but even then, if things came up that wasn't a part of the initial package, the staff and Dr Kwon gave full explanations and worked within my budget constraints. It got to the point that my dog Kira no longer feared, but rather looked forward to seeing everyone at Irvine Great Park Animal Hospital. Lastly, Kira and I needed to relocate out of state back to Hawaii. If you know anything about that process ...it's a lot and it gets very expensive. Dr Kwon and his staff assisted in all the necessary steps needed to make the transition easy and saved me at least $500-$700 on just the necessary blood work (FAVN test) to bring a dog to the state of Hawaii. I highly recommend this place, I need to be up to OC for work every month even after this move and I intend on popping in to visit Dr and Staff only because of the the relationships that we have built over the last yr. That leads to me believe that it's not even actually him responding to people on Yelp. A manager of the hospital called and said they were the best person to help me, and I insisted that I speak to Mr. Cao. They continued on that they are the managers and the best people to help me, but I insisted that I talked to someone that is actually a doctor and not administrative. it has been more than three days. We got an analysis of the fluid in his abdomen that built up, which was more than a pint and a half and this hospital allowed it to remain and didn't even take a sample like they promised to do. The analysis showed that his body is fighting some sort of infection and his blood cells rapidly increased. Not only could they have removed the fluid, but they could have given him an antibiotic. They failed to give our antibiotic to our French bulldog as well when he had an infection. In my opinion, it is cruelty to a dog to do what they did and just take my money and allow him to suffer. He is anemic and fighting an infection and basically fighting for his life. Now they won't even respond to me. There are a few good doctors here that do the right thing. But has a hole, two out of our four visits in the last year. These guys have not done what was right for our dogs and left two dogs in pain leaving their hospital without proper care.

We recently had an emergency with our oldest having constipation so we had to come in on a day when Dr. Andrew wasn't there. Dr. Seggerman was the veterinarian who helped my old boy clear his constipation and she was able to help him do so without sedation. She kept me updated throughout the day with his progress and was very patient with me. I know she is busy with many patients, so I really appreciate the time she took to talk to me and ensure that I knew what procedures were done and confirming the cost with me before proceeding. At pickup, Dr. Seggerman personally took the time to come out and talk to me for my fur babies discharge after her vet technician already came to give me the rundown. I am so thankful that now, I have another veterinarian whom I can trust will take good care of my fur baby and have the expertise in working with cats when Dr. Andrew is not in.

The entire experience was amazing and I'm so grateful for such a positive visit from start to finish. The staff were all so kind and knowledgeable. He was quite old, and I knew in my heart this was likely something he wouldn't survive. I immediately called his regular vet (I'm looking at you CDM Animal Hospital), only to be told, without much compassion, that they were too busy to see him and I should take him to an emergency animal hospital. While those hospitals serve an important purpose, I couldn't bring myself to take him somewhere so cold and overwhelming during such a painful moment. That's when I remembered Urban Vet. I had seen them before when they were located in a nearby shopping center. I called, explained the situation, and they were incredibly kind and told me to bring him in right away. From the moment I arrived, the team was exceptional. They took him back immediately, put him on oxygen, and did everything they could to keep him comfortable. Sadly, it turned out he had a tumor near his heart that had ruptured, and there were very limited options. I made the incredibly difficult decision to end his suffering. The vets were so compassionate and gentle, and they allowed me to hold him in my arms as he crossed the rainbow bridge. I will always be grateful for the dignity and kindness they showed us in that moment. Since then, I've brought both my cat and the dog I recently adopted to Urban Vet, and every experience has reinforced how special this practice is. Every staff member is wonderful and clearly a true animal lover. My pets don't mind going there at all; the office is calm, beautiful, and sun-filled. The vets are top-notch, communicate clearly, and take the time to explain their recommendations. Urban Vet has my complete trust, and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Bliss Animal Hospital saved my cat's life. Words really aren't sufficient to express my gratitude…read moreto this team. I came in here for the first time after our previous vet could not identify my cat's issue, and it was only getting worse and costing more money that I did not have. My cat was suffering, and I was on my last legs trying to find someone to help him. Once he was seen by Dr. Nai, not only did she know almost immediately what it was (without all of the tests I spent tons of money on at my previous vet, for them just to tell me it may be a gut issue, which it absolutely was NOT), Dr. Nai was so present and so in tune with my cat, who she had never even met. I couldn't believe that these nurses, doctors, and staff were treating me and my cat like family, and what matters more than ANYTHING to this team is heart, compassion, awareness and healing your baby. You can truly feel the love that they have for these animals emanating through all of the staff. I will recommend this hospital to literally everyone, and I am a forever customer now because I got to bring home my son, who was purring, at ease, and now on his path to healing, all because of this hospital. I was a stranger to them, yet they treated me and my cat like souls who needed guidance and help before anything else. I think that speaks incredible volumes about what this hospital really is about. Dr. Nai, you are an angel sent from heaven. I truly mean that from the bottom of my heart, and whether you know it or not, I will never forget the way you treated me and Small for the rest of my life. Nurse Priscilla, Winnie, Brittany, and everyone involved in my cat's recovery-this is the best gift you could have given me. I drove home with my cat with tears in my eyes of pure gratitude that my son gets to stay beside me, these doctors, and this staff treated me like a human being, not a dollar amount. They treated my cat like an absolute KING and spoiled him silly! They love animals so, so, so much. Honestly, anyone in the area or even further- this is the hospital you want to bring your baby to because regardless of who you are, what you have, or don't have, they are there for you in a time that often is so scary, lonely, and worrying. I wish I could say thank you in a thousand more ways, but with all that being said, thank you for saving Small. I would have done anything imaginable to help him, and they took that burden off my shoulders and took it from there so I could truly rest knowing he was in the best of hands. Every single one of you will always be in my thoughts, and I genuinely feel indebted. Thank you so much, everyone. Thank you so, so much. Love, Taylor and Small

Yup that was my day after spending 4 hours at the vet only to come up empty. My little senior yorki, Basil, was recently diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. She's been unable to walk with her hind legs for a few days. Our vet pretty much told us to go seek a treatment plan from an orthopedic surgeon and didn't give us anymore info on what else we can do to help make her more comfortable in the meantime. I spent my entire morning making phone calls to different clinics asking if they offer orthopedic care at the facility and got turned away by ALL of them. That was until I called northwood animal hospital. Let me clarify. They do NOT have an ortho specialist here at this facility, I did not end up taking my pet here so this review isn't about how well the vet took care of my baby. However, Maria, the person that picked up my phone call was the most helpful person I've dealt with the entire day. Not only did she take her time going over her roster of places that do offer ortho care in the area, she also took her time explaining the varies treatments they specialize in and how it might help Basil's case. She asked about Basils condition and referred me to 3 different clinics. With the care and patience put into a simple phone call when Basil is not even a patient there, I'm certain that there's no difference once you're there in the office with the vet. Def switching over. I have a wellness checkup for Basil next month with the vet at this facility so I'll update then.

LARGE DOG OWNERS BEWARE!…read more We took our senior dog (rescued one week before) to Northwood Animal hospital because of great Yelp reviews. On closer inspection, you can see that they're great with small animals (hamsters, rabbits, cats, etc.) but larger dogs may be a weak spot, and here's why. The examination room was probably 6'x6', and over half of it was covered by an examination table that couldn't be pulled up because of a small animal scale on it. The net result of this was that our 60-pound dog could only see the feet of people in the room. We notified staff that our sweet girl was a little nervous with new people, and it seems that the vet tech got the memo. The tech was the best part of our experience--even though our dog was nervous, the tech did an amazing job introducing herself to us and our dog, giving her space, etc. It all broke down once the vet came in. Dr. J (Meena Janbahan) came in, did not introduce herself to us, and immediately took our dog by the neck to test her sinuses. While we understood that there was a legitimate medical reason for doing that, her failure to introduce herself to our dog (didn't even offer a hand to sniff), made our dog extremely anxious. Our dog gave about 3-5 seconds of whining before delivering 2-3 warning barks and backing up to us. The vet tech took our dog outside for a brief walk--when they came back, our dog was anxious but okay with the tech--but she did not like the vet. We were in shock that a professional would do this to a dog that had just been rescued and lived on the street before coming to us--but the more we thought about it, we figured that it was absurd to introduce herself to any dog that way. Dr. J followed up this moment by being extremely aloof and dismissive. Our dog had shown no signs of protectiveness at this level before, and Dr. J insisted that there was an inherent problem with our dog based on this meeting (where Dr. J, again, greeted our dog by wrapping her hands around her throat). We began to doubt ourselves and our dog, and would've continued to unless we had gone to another vet (more experienced with dogs) elsewhere, Dr. K (Kirollos Abdelmalek), who introduced himself much more calmly to our dog and assured us that our dog was not behaviorally volatile (see my review of Quail Animal Hospital for more on this experience). The icing on the cake was the $1,000 estimate for our visit. They waived the examination fee because our dog was a rescue, leading to a grand total of $977.80. The itemized receipt is attached to this review, but they don't tell the full story. We were strong-armed into the influenza vaccine (they said they wouldn't give anesthesia without it... which is not standard practice from AVMA guidelines by our understanding), and told that our dog had an ear infection despite the vet saying she was unable to "get a look at her ears." The cytology for the ear infection and treatment being given at the same time also made us raise an eyebrow. Fortunately, we opted to decline all services and see another vet for our dog instead (again, see my review of Quail Animal Hospital for the much better experience). Overall, I would have given Northwood Animal Hospital one star, if it hadn't been for the vet tech who assured us that we were not crazy, despite clear efforts of the business to charge us a ridiculous amount and misrepresent our dog's behavior. It is odd that they would market services for large dogs given that their practice seems--from personnel to facilities--ill-prepared to care for them.
