I'm lazy, so the stairs leading up to the mezzanine then the front desk was a lot for me. However once I made it to the desk, I had the nicest girl help me out, directing me to where the locker room is. There was actually a line for the bathrooms which I've never seen before at an Equinox but there was a maintenance worker there making sure everything was clean in the area. What I learned quickly is that this seems to be a rather busy club. Even though it was around 1p, this place was still active on the floor, and when I had passed the seating on the mezzanine level, almost every seat was taken. Found out the desk girl I spoke with wasn't even a home-based employee at this club but she was very helpful. I actually knew the GM from a location on the west coast so this made the visit even better. Soho is lucky to have Julie Fanning as their GM! I'll be making a future visit here again as they are very close to my favorite tea house a few blocks away. read more

Equinox SoHo was my primary Equinox location for nearly a decade, and if I had to pick one club that best captures the energy of Lower Manhattan, this would be it. I had an all-access membership and visited many locations over the years, but SoHo was my home base for much of my time in New York. The location is outstanding, the atmosphere is unmistakably SoHo, and the place always seems to be buzzing. The people-watching is world-class, and there is a sense that you're at the center of one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. While this place is undeniably a scene, people are generally respectful and keep to themselves. That's part of what makes it work. The club has plenty of energy, but it's still easy to put on your headphones, zone out, and focus on your workout. I've always appreciated that balance. The club itself is well-designed and makes the most of its location. I've always appreciated the treadmill setup and sightlines to the TVs, which make cardio surprisingly enjoyable. One thing that always stood out to me was that, in addition to the standard lineup of treadmills, they had a Woodway available. If you've ever taken a class at Barry's, you know how great those machines are. During marathon training cycles, having access to a Woodway was a surprisingly meaningful luxury and noticeably easier on the body than a traditional treadmill. The men's locker room and yoga studio on the top floor are smartly configured, and the large windows throughout the club overlooking Broadway, Prince Street, and Crosby Street bring the city directly into the space. Add in Juice Generation, a well-curated retail section, and the iconic stoop outside, and it's easy to see why I kept coming back year after year. Sitting on those steps with a smoothie, surrounded by cast-iron buildings and the constant movement of SoHo, is one of my favorite New York experiences. New York has no shortage of great gyms, but Equinox SoHo remains one of my favorite places to work out anywhere. Hope to come back soon! read more

I recently made a visit to the Equinox SoHo while I was in town on business and came away with mixed feelings about this location. First off, the location was convenient, right on the corner of Prince and essentially Broadway so very easy to get to via subway or walking. However, the location itself left a lot to be desired. I guess because it's essentially located in a loft building that they were space constrained, but some of the set up and space utilization felt weird and out of place. The location is stairs heavy, so be prepared to walk. The men's locker rooms are located on the floor above the main gym floor, but next to the yoga studio. However, the women's locker room is located on the main floor next to the spa. There were also some coworking spaces along the stairwell that felt like they utilized every space possible. The main gym space itself felt as expected for an Equinox, but if you're a frequent visitor to the newer locations, you'll immediately notice the design language from the previous generation of clubs. Some aspects of it were fine, but the locker rooms felt dated and weirdly laid out where the steam room was essentially set up at an angle where the upper bench essentially disappeared into the wall. As usual, there were gym bros at this location hogging up the free weights, but I guess that's just what's expected since this is a gym and in a centralized location. For the most part I did not have an issue with volume at this location like others have stated, but I was also going at an off hour and I can see how the space can feel crowded during the prime rush hours. Overall, with the convenience to the office and public transportation and it's decent size, I would frequent this location if I were back in town for an extended period of time. read more

I visited equinox soho for the aescape robot full body massage and it was great! Their spa is relaxing and feels like a nice environment for a massage. I like how I could control the pressure throughout and felt very relaxed after a heavy workout. Highly recommend! read more

I come to this SoHo Equinox 2-3 times a week before work, as it is on my way to the office. Something about biking to the gym on an empty stomach in 30 degree weather before the sun has risen makes me feel like Rocky. Like David Goggins. Like a 2013 Conor McGregor. I'm just so hungry. Being on the road when it's just me and construction workers out makes me feel so beast. It just feels like a win opening up the gym door at 5:45am, walking up 3 flights of stairs and greeting the sleepy staff who couldn't be less interested in my presence. I drop my stuff in the locker room and get down to the largely empty gym floor. Everyone else in here at this time has all my respect. I see 15ish people in here before me, and give them a subtle nod as if to say "I see you workin...they not like us..." I don't actually do that but in my head we nonverbally communicate this. I hop on the little squat machine that overlooks the intersection of Prince St and Broadway, pop my airpods in, and start listening to some old Katy Perry and Kid Cudi as I'm fighting for my life doing these squats. I mf love this machine, but I'm not gonna hype it up too much because then other people will start using it. It lowkey just collects dust in the corner. After getting an amazing 45 minute sweat, I head up to the locker room to shower and change. Few things have hurt my soul more than when they switched all the skincare products from Kiehl's to that brand Grown Alchemist. Grown Alchemist is hot garbage, idc. How you gonna increase my membership every year but downgrade the products? Make that make sense. FREE KIEHL'S! After risking my skin health with Grown Alchemist, I change into my button down, slacks, and dress shoes and clock into the matrix. The matrix has been whoopin me lately, but these early mornings here at this beautiful Equinox make me feel better, as at least I have done something for myself. Continuing my quest to work out at every Equinox in Manhattan. I took Best Stretch Ever and it was good, different from Brookfield Place with Q, but still worth the time. Then I had some time until the next class, so I shopped at the store. A cute bag caught my eye. I'm a sucker for handbags, and the Think Royln Bar bag looked so inviting that I just had to try it on. Three detachable straps! I could use the straps for my other bags. I did have a $100 gift card for joining and 15% off. So I got the bag! The only thing is after I got home, I realized that this bag also comes with gold hardware and I have several black bags with gold hardware, so I am hoping to exchange it. I love the detachable straps for my Chanels with gold hardware. At my age, functionality is everything, and the Chanels often don't have functional straps. Then I took the Bala Bangle Barre Burn class with Or Artzi and what energy! Love the music, moves and positivity! I felt the burn and will probably be sore the next day. It's overcrowded. There's 10 people wandering around in the locker rooms looking for a locker. There's a line to get a bath stall, and there's no more hand towels. Line to find a space on the mat. You can get all this for $300 a month. Overall tho I like the floor and the people who work here especially the front desk are super nice and always smiling. read more

Was my main gym for most of 2023. The weight section is very well designed and navigable. The abundance of squat racks relative to other Equinox locations is noticeable. They do need more freestanding benches but otherwise I have little trouble accessing equipment or weights - even during busy hours. Trainers seem friendly and competent. Lockerroom experience isn't good because this location is particularly overcrowded. It's not uncommon for them to run out of towels during peak periods, leading to 10-20 minute wait times for towels/showers. read more

Gave a visit and came to this Equinox location to attend Athletic Conditioning. Amazing instructor and awesome class! This is a very busy branch and much bigger than I thought. Even on a Sunday it is very packed and felt like I stepped into a Blink. Understandable given it is right in the smack of SoHo. It is challenging to find the equipment and space where you have to improvise at times and come in with a Plan B and C for your work out routine. There are many areas for you to sit and do your work if you need to. Nearby a few blocks away there is another Equinox on Bond Street if you want something less busy. read more

I live in walking distance between Equinox SoHo, Bond St., and Orchard St. While the latter two are newer and have a more modern aesthetic and seem to be more clean in general, I still prefer the SoHo location because of the large open layout and machines. Several Equinox locations in NYC have equipment spread across multiple floors, which can have you running up and down stairs in confusion looking for what you need, which can be particularly annoying and time-consuming if you're trying to do a superset routine or just want to stay in the zone. I also think the staff is super friendly and helpful! I'm always chatting with the trainers and if I ever have any questions about equipment or a move - or simply want to get a second set of eyes on my deadlift form, they are more than happy to help. I've made friends with lots of regulars, too. I wish I could give this place 5 stars but on the downside, I find it's not as clean or beautiful as other locations. For what I pay, sometimes it lacks that luxury look and feel that other locations offer. The Yoga studio is always a bit stinky and the men's locker room could be nicer (love the one at Bond St which is also much cleaner). Lastly for some reason they've removed hand sanitizing stations and most of the sanitary wipe stations, citing no need for them post-pandemic. I find that a bit odd because regardless of a pandemic, it's a gym, strangers are sweating and equipment gets gross. Why not make it easy for us to keep things clean? However since I'm mostly there to work, and I enjoy my workout time thoroughly because the layout and the friendly staff, these issues aren't a huge deal to me. I actually real like this location since I'm in this area a lot, but I have an issue with the locker room staff. I really appreciate how "thorough" they are when it comes to maintaining the space, but it's gotten to the point where you can't even move around in there or shower in peace because they're ALWAYS doing something in the showers. Today it was changing the lightbulbs, yesterday it's standing around and chatting in the shower areas, or doing a massive scrub down of the stalls while people are just truing to get in and get out. I get that they're doing their jobs, but sometimes I just want to shower without having 2 staff members standing right in front of my shower. I don't have any issues like this at any other location except the Soho location. Honestly this gym is my favorite equinox location probably. Obviously it is expensive, but relative to other equinox Gyms in the city this one is a cool experience where it feels like you get what you pay for. My main qualms come from when signing up i was told i could get 2 guest passes per billing cycle (i'm billed monthly so i thought i had two per month) but it's 2 per YEAR and i used them both the first week thinking it was two per month. Then i tried to get my coworker a day pass for a trial as he was interested maybe in joining and i called twice and no one got back to me. read more

This was the dirtiest Equinox I've been to yet! I usually go to different locations more uptown however I was in the area this weekend and decided to check out this location. Everywhere I went, the locker room, the group fitness room, even the stretching area, there was tons of hair! It takes a lot for me to be grossed out, but I couldn't get over this! None of the other Equinox locations are this bad! I took two group classes back to back and did not like either of the instructors. I've taken both classes at other locations and I thought the organization of the class was poor; neither instructor actually did the exercises with the class. The water pressure was awful as well. Overall, I did not have a good experience here and will be avoiding this location! read more

Like everyone else has mentioned recently, Equinox is getting your money unless you have a notarized letter with witnesses detailing you tried to cancel your membership within 10 minutes of establishing it so long as you didn't drink water or use a towel. EQX is a complete waste of time unless there are literally no other gyms you can access...and this is Soho, so take that as you will. read more

First, this gym needs a renovation badly!! For $250/month you have an awful old shower zone and some equipment that needs an update. The worst thing about this location, however, is the management. They genuinely don't care about their members and the condition of the gym. If you meet one of them at the front desk, you may be sure the rudest person will be the manager. ( Dre is name of the worst one ) They constantly ask you for feedbacks but nothing is ever done. They don't even bother answer your emails addressing the concerns. Just be prepared that it's " take it or leave it" kind of place P.S. when you will resign ( and you will do it sooner than you think) keep in mind that it's 45 days cancellation notice BUT they will drag your application for about a week, so they can charge you for longer than 45 days. Welcome back to my Equinox shower Yelp series where I out myself on the Internet for being a weirdo that has showered in every neighborhood of this city. I've been checking out all of the Equinox locations and rating their showers because I found out that not all luxury locker rooms are created equal. SoHo is a good ~vibe~ and maybe that's because there are so many beautiful people there or because the windows made the gym look so big and bright on the Saturday morning I spent there. In the locker room, there's a row of the big showers with the extra space to keep your towels and stuff of which I'm such a fan, but there is also a row of the single-wide small ones that are less than ideal, yet still efficient. I, of course, had to take a small stall since a Saturday morning rush is, like, a /thing/ in the Equinox community. It was fine. Last Monday, trainer Josh, stepped between me and the cable cross machine while I was holding the grips, about to starting my 4th set. Just to remove a rubber band and toss it to the side. Went I confronted him, he tried to act all fake and friendly asking me if I saw his setup? His client wasn't anywhere near the equipment and the gym had just open. He specifically has made fun of me in the past for using the assisted pull up machine, earlier this year so I was not buying his BS. He also touched my leg while talking to me for some weird reason. There was no reason for him to block my set and when I wrote to management and the corporate headquarters, nothing was done, and they don't care! The trainers also waste their clients time with useless exercises like ball slams. Throwing a 15 lb beanbag ball down, with the force of gravity, using momentum, works nothing. This is why after months of training they look the same. One can easily YouTube an actual workout or just take the group classes. The only good thing about Equinox is there gyms are clean except when people stand on the benches and don't wipe them down afterwards. Their app is great and the group classes. After my 12-month contract is up I'll try another brand. read more

*puts on fancy work out pants I've had the pleasure of coming here several times on my instructor's pass and thoroughly enjoyed his classes because they were fun ( although usually packed). The pass entitled me to hang out as long as I wanted afterward, which I usually wouldn't do because the gym is sooo crowded. I don't just mean crowded with people, I mean crowded with things and whatnot. Like no space can be spared. I'm a member of Blink, Equinox's poor cousin that they own, and I must say for my $15 I get a lot more (and a lot less). Let's compare and contrast, shall we? Equinox - $200+ a month - fancy wood paneled locker rooms...ooooh... - Kiehls products you can go to town on in said locker rooms - towels! ( I was a Y member before Blink so I have never had the experience of having towels you can just toss around all over the place) - nice equipement and large studios to take classes in - a nice place to sit and wait for friends and whatnot - lots of treadmills and ellipticals. None had their own screens though, there area bunch of monitors hanging from the ceiling where you can switch to what you want to listen to - fancy pants clientele - a Witchcraft, which was a juice bar before Blink (and any cheap competitor) $15-20, depending on level of membership - no towels, but it's cheap - depending on your blink there are a ton of treadmills, etc. that have their own t.v. with cable. There is usually a section like Equinox though, with some screens with a more limited selection - usually not a wait if it's crowded, depending on location - nerdy clientele - free water from water fountains I guess if I didn't have to pay for my own health insurance or something I would get an Equinox membership, but I'd rather spend $15 and not go to the gym every once in a while. Nice place, but it's a lot for what you get. Other locations might be nicer. I just felt a little claustrophobia every time I went. read more

I've been a member of a few gyms before joining equinox. I originally started out at NYSC in soho, went to crunch, was a long time member of David Barton before they went bankrupt. When they went bankrupt, the only other gym in soho was equinox. I tried a trial, fell in love and join the gym. First off, the gym is clean. There is always someone wiping machines, seats or something every 30 minutes. Plenty of wipe stations for people to also wipe the equipment down before/after use. The equipment is new and up to date. Plenty of free weights and squat stations. A few bench stations as well. Plenty of treadmills and elliptical as well as 4 stair masters for the cardio enthusiast. The main sell for me was the locker rooms. There were plenty of kiehl's amenities to use. The shower stalls were spacious and clean. The steam room helps you relax and circulate after a long hard session. I've been a member for a year and definitely love not only this, but a few other locations I've been to as well. The only con here is the price. If you want to be able use the soho location, you have to get the all-access membership which will run you 235/month. I'd highly recommend you wait till near holidays to join if you plan to. They usually waive the initiation fee during those promos and you can save about $5-600 dollars! Okay I LOVE Equinox because all the instructors are freaking fantastic and they work your ass off. But this location is my LEAST favourite out of the ones I've been to - I like UES (newest one) and Grand Central the best. This one is a bit too dirty for me - EEKS! The shower doesn't have the built in wooden board and not to mention it was just so damn dirty. All the showers were taken except one but I was like F it, I am going to go in even though I saw 2 dirty towels left on the floor, 5 used razors and 2 cans of shaving cream left on the stool. WTF - how leggy was this person that she had to use 2 cans of shaving cream and 5 damn disposable razors? (Kill the Earth, why don't you!) Anyways, as I was in there I noticed a HUGE massive wad of hair stuck to the shower wall....ewwwwwwwwwwwwww! Does anyone ever clean this place? My friend got me a guest pass to work out while I was in town on business. The place is big and cavernous and has lots of machines and TVS. We worked out on the rowing machines and then did our Pilates session in the empty class room. No one bugged us. :) The bath/locker rooms are clean and well lit with nice touches like free shampoo and stuff. But the best part of working out in NYC is the people watching. In LA, gym goers are all decked out and looking like models and actors. In NY, they are hipsters with super bright clothes and shoes and surly expressions. Love it! read more

I love coming to this Equinox. It's close to the apartment, and the company offers upscale amenities that make working out that much more enjoyable. My favorite class was the cycling class: hot pursuit. I throughly enjoyed it and thought it was engaging for the entire duration. Nice work Equinox! I came here on a 2 day free guest pass, being a member of the Equinox gyms in Los Angeles, I wanted to work out while in town in NYC and tried out the SoHo location which was closest to my hotel. Located in a pretty posh shopping district off of Broadway this multi level gym is more vertically arranged as is the norm for the crowded city. The main check in desk is on the third floor, same level as the main workout area which is much larger on the inside than what you'd expect coming in. Men's locker room, annoyingly is one floor up, next to the yoga classrooms, i'm guessing the women get a little pampering having their lockers on the same floor as the main gym. Quality of the machines, facilities and service is pure Equinox all the way, and not shockingly, the physical fitness and attractiveness of the clientele is even more impressive than the LA area gyms I've been to. Locker rooms are pretty spacious and well kept as well, showers are the newer variety with the wooden floors, sadly no tv/lounge area to cool down after a workout or shower. My first experience w a NY Equinox has been a positive one and I'll defiitely make arrangements to get back on the guestlist next time I'm in the city. read more

My friend goes to this gym and referred me to come for a day visit to try it out. This put me in contact with Matt Maurer to show me around and greet me. He was nice and very quick to respond when I emailed him. Yet, when I showed up at 4:50pm on the day we had a 5pm appointment, nearly everything with this appointment went wrong. Upon arriving, reception went and told Matt that I was here and they returned and told me that he would be a few minutes. Totally cool. I sit and wait and as 30 minutes passed, I went up to reception to ask where he was. They called him and another 10 minutes later, reception comes to me and asks if I'm sure hat I had an appointment because Matt left. I showed him the email saying clearly that he would see me at 5pm. So, reception goes back to call his cell to remind him about my appointment. Another 5 minutes later, they say someone else is going to take care of me. At this point, I'm already frustrated. The new equinox rep, Molly, comes out to get me. She was nice and I was obviously frustrated, so at least she maintained being nice. She showed me the gym and went over the fees with me and then let me go from the office. I truly came to actually TRY the gym. So after she said, "have a nice day," I went back into her office and said, "can I actually try the gym today?" And she just responded, "Uuuh, yeah just today you can!" People wanting to sign up are supposed to get a 3-day trial first of all. I was referred by one of their valued customers so I was DEFINITELY supposed to at least try the facilities but she made it sound like she was doing me a favor to use it. Overall, the only polite people that truly tried to help me here was reception. This was a terrible way to trial this gym and can confidentially say I don't believe I should join this gym solely based on this unprofessional performance by the equinox team. read more
