Enjoyed my first experience with Erawan takeout. First thing I noticed when I walked in is that the dining room could be updated. However, the rest of my experience was so positive I quickly overlooked it. Had the red curry chicken and it was awesome. The deliciously spicy sauce was perfectly cut with subtle coconut cream. The chicken was excellent in its' tender thin slices. All over the white rice it was really, really good. Since I'm a spicy guy I asked for it extra spicy. I was really impressed with how hot they made it considering most places to me just won't kick the spice levels up to where I enjoy it (which is totally understandable because I'm not a normal person when it comes to spice levels) I thought we received a very fair amount of food for what we paid. Also the service was very friendly and the takeout experience was easy. I will definitely order here again and I can't wait. read more

Thai food can differ quite a bite from restaurant to restaurant and the food at Erawan is a little different from most Thai restaurants I've tried. It took a few visits for me to acclimate but after that there was no going back. It's been my family's favorite Thai restaurant for 16 years. read more

Tom yum gai was just the best way to start our dinner ,with healthy vegetables,exact amount of lemon and ofcourse spicy chilies but just right for an appetizer !( and our taste buds) Highly recommend the soup! It's pretty rare to find a Thai place that both me and my boyfriend both love. I like my green curry tofu a certain way and he likes his pad Thai a certain way. Luckily for us, erawan does them both exactly the way we like them. I usually order takeout by phone, and the staff is super pleasant to order from and my food is always made well and with care. On the occasion that I ate in we received great service and got to try some of their drinks, the Thai iced tea is phenomenal. After trying a few of the Thai places in town, this is definitely my favorite. read more

Stopped in for lunch, was seated quickly, server was good, not very friendly, but was nice. Ordered the Chicken Prig Pow, portion size was good, spice was good, hot but not too hot. The vegetables were just ok, a bunch of green peppers and a few baby corns. The eggroll it came with it was good Prices were reasonable, and from what I could see the place was clean. Ok I'm sure I'll get blasted for this but honestly the worst Thai food I've had in my life and the service was pretty crappy too. I'm not usually one to get down on servers but more about that later So I got some spring rolls and was feeling uninspired so I just got pad Thai the spring rolls were ok mostly lettuce and they had an odd sort of dipping sauce not the normal sauce you would expect with some carrot pieces it's clear. Perhaps simple syrup with maybe some fish sauce. Not sure but it was pretty boring. Now the kicker when I'm not sure what I want I just get pad Thai since it's always consistent everywhere well this monstrosity shows up at the table as a red glob of paste. It was horrific took a bite and promptly tapped out. No way that was going into my gullet. To top it off the dish was stone cold. Honestly it was horrible the prepackaged junk from the grocery stores is much better Now for the server. We went in two of us we were sat and brought water. Then another group of people came in perhaps 5 mins later they were seated provided drinks and there order was taken as we sat and waited. Finally our order was taken. The server stopped by and asked if I wanted a box for the pad Thai which I didn't eat and I asked if it was really pad Thai she said yes and that they make it different here. Well clearly this has come up in the past that would have been useful info to have before I ordered. Didn't offer to take it off the bill or if I wanted something else. Honestly I didn't and would have insisted on paying anyway. It was a cold and rainy night so I decided to order up takeout from Erawan rather than heading to one of my other go-to Thai places that are a longer drive. Bad decision! Now I remember why I stopped going here. I should have known I was in trouble when I had to ask what was in each of the containers I received. I got the Thai salad with peanut dressing - they gave me enough dressing for the entire City of Syracuse in a separate container. Things went downhill from there. My "green curry with pork" was small container of something that looked a bit like pork with green peas and one shriveled up, overcooked piece of basil. There was a bit of green sauce in the bottom but nothing that resembled a typical green curry made with coconut milk. I was home by the time I realized what was really in my container so I decided to make the best of it. The peas were nice and fresh but that's about the only thing that was. The rest of the dish had the taste of meat that was cooked and reheated and my last bite had an odd taste to it that stayed in my mouth most of the night. I don't think it was spoiled but it definitely was not pleasant. Kind of like the flavor you get from a grill or pan that is not quite cleaned enough. Next time I'll head back to Sweet Basil in Mattydale for a much better Thai meal. read more

Another mediocre dining establishment in Syracuse. I had some kind of tofu curry dish. It was palatable, but very unremarkable. My friend really enjoyed her pad tai. But after months of living in Syracuse and eating at mediocre restaurants, anything semi-decent tasting becomes "good." The decor in the restaurant makes the whole place feel depressing. If you already feel totally culturally isolated in Syracuse, then the old tables, faded forest green cloth napkins, and floral patterned window treatments will depress you even more. I just remember the bright lighting inside making me tired and lot of forest green and pink everywhere. It took forever to get the check. read more

The decor suggests Thai, but the food is pretty Americanized. So if you've eaten across Thailand or in fairly authentic Thai restaurants in US, this is *not* the place for you. You'd find your beloved Thai dishes watered down, with less / no heat, less complex spices, and ingredient omission or substitution that results in misrepresentation of what authentic Thai flavours can really do to please your taste buds. Went for lunch, and left pretty happy. 6.99 got me a decent-sized plate of serviceable panang curry and an egg roll, which is a steal. This is the second Thai place I've been to in Syracuse that serves unorthodox (and much cheaper) vegetables with their Thai dishes. This time the panang came with frozen peas. But, for $6.99, it's extremely hard to complain. I ordered it hot, and it was actually pretty spicy. Four stars instead of five because my girlfriend's 11 dollar pad thai was a bit odd (the sauce had an overwhelming amount of tamarind, so it was super sweet) and because the 12-13 dollar dinner prices don't appear to get you fresh vegetables. Still, great spot for a cheap lunch. Seriously, I didn't expect to find any Asian food in Syracuse that wasn't overpriced/bad, so I'm pretty excited. Easily the best Thai in Cuse. I've sampled a lot of what they offer, but my absolute overall favorite remains the Tom Kha Gai soup. I'm tempted every time to order 2 bowls just for myself; it's that good! Many entrees are excellent, but my favorite meal remains Yum Nua consisting of thinly sliced beef served with vegetables and rice at room temperature. I visited Erawan with two colleagues for lunch today because I lost a bet. I had not been there for about a year before I went back today. The eggrolls were still excellent. But my dish, No. 151, tasted very different. It seemed that some staple ingredients were forgotten. In one colleague's dish, there was extra protein added - A BUG. We sent that dish back and the restaurant took it off the bill. My other colleague's dish appeared to be the same but she said it was cold. The service today was slow and below average. We waited 10 minutes to have our order taken and another 10 to get our bill processed. When we asked for appetizer plates, the waitress just threw all three in a stack in front of me. We waited around to have our water glasses filled (we were never asked if we wanted anything else to drink). The AC did not work well; iIt was very hot in the restaurant. Something seemed disjointed and changed. I wonder if the ownership of the restaurant has changed. If so, something needs to change in order to bring back the glory of the old Erawan. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. They have the standard Thai fare but the star of the show is their Thai style food! if you can, go with lots of people and order lots of dishes that you can eat family style! I really like the dishes made with chilli oil. The inside is very nice, a date quality restaurant. Takeout or sit in, you can't go wrong! read more

Lots of mixed reviews on this place it seems. I think the 3-star it has seemed to settle at is about right. It's the kind of place where I'd take my friends/family who are curious about thai, but also not ready to jump in head-first. They are accommodating with spice level, and the food is generally tasty, even if not really authentic. I think a lot depends on what you actually order. That said, even if what I've gotten hasn't been on the same level as other places (even others in Syracuse), I've never been upset with the food that came out. It's all been okay to in some cases very good. It's almost like Alto Cinco- don't expect pure Mexican there, nor pure Thai here, but if you go in with the right expectation you'll probably leave happy. The service though, is really hit or miss, and is usually on the miss side. Even when I have ended up with a friendly waiter or waitress, they've forgotten things (and still charged me for them, though that is an easy fix at the register). If you can make the trip out to Liverpool to Bangkok, I'd do that instead. read more

3rd visit: undercooked tofu and my pad thai was lukewarm at best... Most everyone I've taken here liked their dish. I liked mine OKt--it was the perfect amount of spice, but I didn't like how the tofu was cooked (or rather, not cooked). I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called, but it had coconut milk, mini corn, tofu, green peppers. However, the waitstaff and then management were quite rude when my friend inquired about a job opening advertised on the front door. They were all smiles as they told him there was actually no opening but clearly lying and talking down to him. He's a well-dressed, clean guy and I didn't get it. I didn't like it. I also ordered tea and they brought me out a whole pot plus a cup for my friend. I did enjoy that. read more

This is pretty good Thai, the food itself is the star and obviously the decor is not. Pretty authentic stuff here having have been to Thailand for awhile. Drunken noodles, pad thai, both were great. I want to make sure that I go back and try more, I'm surprised with all of the negative reviews, must have been an off day. read more

This place can really rock it if you like really spicy food. Their food goes from mild, medium and spicy 1-5 stars. In most Thai places, the spiciest is usually mild to medium for me. Not here, a 5 star spicy soup has the incredible heat. Not tortuously crazy spicy but enough to make most of the hardy guys sweat while retaining the flavor yet packing a punch. The soups with 5 star spicy packed a double punch with each spoon getting hotter as you inch closer to the chili that has settled to the bottom.. The food is refreshingly good even without the spice and quite a bit of the bargain. Not the best decor but given its relatively low price a true gem. read more

I love this place. It can be a little pricey for dinner, but the portions are hug. It makes for a good lunch the next day. Service is fast and polite. I've never had a problem, even with takeout. Lunches are a bit cheaper. Erawan also has a nice atmosphere as well. Recommended :) read more

I'm not 100% sure why this place doesn't have 5 stars. The service was on point, the foods authentic and tasteful and the place looks like any other Thai restaurant. I had the Tom Yum soup and red curry with chicken (the one with peas) and it was phenomenal. The soup was flavorful, and the curry was the lunch portion but you wouldn't know - I took more than half home with me. The restaurant was filled with business men with runny noises from the heat from their meals. If you like Thai food, this is a must stop! read more

OMG... this is the best place, the food, the coconut drinks and the ice cream.

I ordered soup and pad thai and both were just ok. The soup was bland and the silverware I was given had a strange smell, likely making the soup taste different - I got new silverware. The pad thai was really sweet. The shrimp in the soup and pad thai had limited flavor...I wanted more distinct taste. The environment is relatively dark. Nothing really stands out or attracts you to the space. There were a few tables taken and people seemed to be ordering other food items and big rice dishes. I stopped by today for takeout. I ordered the spicy pad kee mao with beef. When I think of Thai food, I think of food that has an explosion of flavor with every bite. The pad kee Mao did not have that. It has the salty, sweet, and spicy that I am familiar with, but the flavors were not in harmony and it was so subtle, making me miss that flavor explosion. Also, the amount of vegetables to noodle was disporprotionate. I enjoy vevegtables, but I felt it was too much and not enough noodles. However, this is not the worst I have had. It was decent and the servers there were really friendly. I will return in the future, but I probably won't order this again. read more

Amazing food every time. The staff is always friendly and they can accommodate almost any meal to be gluten free which is huge!

I tried Erawan on a whim for lunch while running errands on Erie Blvd. I'd heard many people rave about it, but I don't think it has anything on Bangkok in Liverpool. i ordered an egg roll for an appetizer. It was okay but a bit on the greasy side. I ordered the Pad Thai for my main course. The portion was massive but lacked much of anything other than noodles. I was hoping for something else; perhaps some egg, bean sprouts, green onion, peanuts, anything? I took half of it home and gave the rest to a hungry family member. I will compliment Erawan for providing a plethora of spicy additions on request. We were given sriracha, a spicy powdered spice blend, and a fresh chopped chili paste to add some heat to our meal. Erawan will work in a pinch, but if you have the time, make the trip to Liverpool for better Thai. read more

This is just a basic middle of the road Thai restaurant. However, since this is Syracuse, this is a decent find. I much prefer Lemongrass - while not stereotypically authentic and certainly pricier, takes advantage of some wonderfully high quality ingredients and is able to offer very tasty food to an audience of many people who normally wouldn't try Thai or never have tried any Asian food except Chinese food. read more

Order carefully and cross your fingers about the service and Erawan can provide a really good meal. This isn't the best place for more generic Thai dishes; order that pad thai elsewhere. But if you're looking for nam prik ong, for instance, you're in luck - Erawan does a number of authentic items very well. And they'll pour on the heat if you're willing. Sometimes the service is spotty (OK, occasionally flat-out terrible), and the single dining room can be both uncomfortably quiet and loud during the course of the same meal. I am one of the few people that had never been to Erwan (or at least hadn't been in many years!). I noticed they were doing takeout during the pandemic and decided to give it a try. Their lunch specials are really good and reasonably priced. I appreciate that you can order mild, medium or hot spice because I'm kind of a wimp! :) They prig pow is delicious. Homestyle Thai food, like what I imagine the Laotian family who runs it eats at home. Decorated with Thai things but feels like a diner, though they put out tablecloths at night. A little pricy given all that. The fried egg rolls are (oily but) very delicious - #8 and #9. Other good dishes: vegetarian curries, chicken and broccoli with peanut sauce, #19. The Pad Thai is very sweet. If you're used to other Pad Thai, it's easy to develop a taste for it. They serve hot tea, Thai iced tea, Thai beer, and plum wine. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. If you order Pad Thai vegetarian, they'll ask "egg OK?" Don't forget to say, "No MSG please." I'd have given this three stars if it weren't for my emotional attachment to the place. It's where I had my first Thai food at age 17. Less welcoming but more authentic at Little Thai House across the street. Also, try Lao Village downtown. Lemongrass is also excellent, but in a different ballpark. read more
