I'm surprised they are still in business. I don't even want to cancel with them, I just want to transfer to a new apartment that we are moving into. I've tried emailing, submitting inquiries online through their website, and calling multiple times (currently on hold on the phone as I type, and have been holding for 19 minutes. It's one thing to be busy, but it's another to be lazy and disrespectful of customer's time and money. If I had a choice, I would give negative reviews, but unfortunately Yelp doesn't allow that. For renters insurance, this is the best and easiest one to purchase. Firstly, they didn't need my social security number. With so much ID Theft going around this is one thing I do not want to easily hand out. I was able to add room mates to the policy (for some odd reason, State Farm wouldn't let me add my room mate because we were not related or married). My plan was affordable, they did not need a huge down payment or anything. They let me breakdown my payments into monthly installments and I didn't have to put a huge deposit or anything (like what is required when you get an auto policy). I actually had to call again because I forgot my billing date. They picked up the phone pretty quickly, really. But also, I'm no rookie, I would never dare to call any customer service line on a Monday morning. I called on some random Wednesday afternoon on my way home from work and got a hold of someone pretty fast. eRenterPlan is the cheapest and fastest way for you to get renters insurance, so it is widely accepted that everyone uses it. However, they have no customer service build into their business. My quarterly insurance payments were setup months ago to auto-pay on a credit card, so when I received the email that a payment was due I knew that it was taken care of. Out of nowhere, I get a letter in the mail saying that my policy has been cancelled. So I quickly realize that my credit card must need to be updated. BUT what the hell? No email or phone call that simply asks me to update my information - eRenterPlan just cuts straight to "Your Cancelled" and thinks that is a good customer experience. It's so unprofessional, and it is among the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. A smarter company is going to come along (if they haven't already) and under cut eRenterPlan by simply having logical "customer service" email or text alerts built into their system. People like me who are smart and don't have time for BS will immediately skip out on eRenterPlan for the better quality insurance service. This company has terrible communication. I moved out of an apartment and have been trying for weeks to get in contact with someone to cancel my plan. I've sat on hold for long periods of time on multiple occasions and no one ever picks up. I have emailed them countless times and have only heard back one time. The one time they responded it had a form I needed to send back to them to cancel. Filled out the form and sent it back multiple times and yet my policy is still not cancelled. Instead I get an email saying my policy is being auto renewed until 2020 and will be taken off my debit card. Never have I dealt with a company that made it more difficult to get in contact with someone or cancel a plan for a place I no longer live at. My new apartment complex partners with these fools, but do not require that we use them for our renters insurance. We have opted to go with another much more cost effective and easy-to-use insurer, but we receive surprisingly rude and narcissistic emails a couple times each week mocking us for not purchasing a policy through them. A bit disappointing. I've had erenterplan plan for the past two years. I am moving and wanted to call to transfer my plan to my new residence. The wait time was "10-15 minutes". I waited an hour and a half and still no one picked up. Started reading some of the other Yelp reviews and they were terrible on here. Decided to just go on and cancel my plan rather than transferring. I rarely write reviews (nowadays), but this is something I felt quite strongly about. TL;DR Double-charged repeatedly, tired of waiting on hold and drove myself to their HQ... was given a BS excuse, nothing resolved through them, disputing charges and cancelling policy. ---- Double-charged monthly due to another policy holder having a credit card with similar last four-digits.... according to them, that is. The first time, I called and emailed them the proof I was being double-charged and asked them to reverse the charge that was not mine... They refused and had me call AMEX to dispute the charge, so I did. I them asked them what can I do to prevent this in the future? ..... silence, no response back. I decied to just let it go and to go on with life, hoping it was noted on my account... Yes, dumb of me now looking back, but it is what it is. Then it happened again... I called and after waiting on hold the first time, I was told they would have a supervisor call me back about this... Couple of hours later, no answer. I called again and waited for a while, then I realized their office was close to my work. So I drove myself to their headquarters while still being on hold with them... because already at this point, I was not getting through to anyone and it was already on my way to work. They are not open to the public, but I knocked anyways. They have a camera above where you would scan a key-fob (if you were an employee), probably because they get a lot of angry, pissed off customers and don't want walk-ins. Surprised, someone actually answered the door and let me sit in the front chair. They brought out a supervisor Tanya and after looking it over, essentially told me that (again) because the other policy holder had a similar credit card, that they had no control over which policy was being to charged to which account and that it was AMEX's fault... Well, let's get this straight... For the two credit cards to get mixed up, the other policy holder would also have to have: - the same security code - the same expiration date - the same billing address (or zip code) So really.. I don't think it was because our the last four-digits of our credit card numbers were similar.. and AMEX also confirmed that their excuse was not valid.. I truly believe they just didn't want to fix it themselves and gave me the BS excuse... which I cannot understand why they would rather have me dispute the charges, when they can just credit me back the $20... It's really not the money... It's the principal... Also, the fact that they provided me with some personal information about the other policy holder was already a red flag that they do not respect user privacy... (Sorry Temeca, they gave out your info!) Anyways... in the end, nothing was accomplished through them. I had to have AMEX dispute ALL charges, versus just the one (1) wrong charge. This company has major issues. In the same week that I received my Renewal paperwork, I also received "You've Been Cancelled" paperwork. I attempted to log-in to their website to see what the issue was...but it says they can't confirm my policy number. Just like everyone else, I've tried calling multiple times...to no such luck. Sometimes I call and it just says "Call Back Later"...other times it says their expected wait time is "Over 30 minutes". Of course they notified my apartment complex that they cancelled my policy...who then charged me a $35 violation for not having insurance. If there was a no star option, I would have opted for that option. When I moved apartments, I requested to cancel the existing policy I had on the previous place and start a new policy for the new apartment. Of course they were able to start a new policy, but the cancellation for the old one was never completed. I've now spent the last 6 months trying to e-mail and call. Not once have I received a contact back regarding the cancellation of the old policy (which I'm still being charged for) When I've reached out to inquire about the UNAUTHORIZED charges on my account, I've never once received a contact back. For the entire year I had insurance through this company, it was always an issue trying to get ahold of them. Not only were there extremely long hold times (I have a life and a small child, I'm not sitting on hold for longer than 20 minutes on a good day), every time I responded to an email, went to the online contact section, I'd get absolutely no response. I'd try to long into the account I created online and when trying to recover my password after failed attempts when I know it should be right, it didn't recognize my email (which they sent me emails to all the time) nor the policy number that they provided in each email. Today they took a payment out for an apartment that I no longer live at and haven't for 3 months. I called immediately after getting the email and waited 5 minutesto get told that I needed to hold for a different agent. This particular agent was condescending which triggered me to become angry. I had to explain my situation to him more than once. I asked for a manager after he told me he was going to just cancel and not refund. He put me on hold for 10 minutes just to come back and tell me his supervisor is busy, but with reverse the payment which he told me he couldn't do in the first place. Advice? Make it easier for clients to contact you and teach your employees proper customer service techniques. Improve your online system to actually recognize policy numbers and email addresses that you clearly have on file considering you can find my information very easily on the phone when I'm asking to cancel after holding for 3 different people. read more

Just like most people, I was also reeled in to sign up for this company by my apartment community. This was my first apartment and I had no idea what insurance policy to get. I ended up signing up for them and my debit card was being charged regularly every month. I've never missed a single payment since it's withdrawn automatically and I've never filed a claim with them the whole year I had them. My lease expires at the end of this month and I'm trying to cancel them. I called them and I've been waiting on the phone for 45 minutes, no one is answering. I tried logging in to the website and canceling there but that's down too. Last week they send me a large envelope with their new policy just to notify me that my plan is being transferred to American Modern Home Insurance Company and I will be charged a premium of $165.00! This was all done without my consent! Why is my lease being renewed for another year??? The website finally worked and I was able to request a cancellation for the date that I will be moving out. I just hope I don't end up a victim of fraud or my bank information being transferred to this other company. I will be calling my bank to place a hold if they try to withdraw after my policy terminates. If you are looking for a renters insurance then this is NOT the company to sign up for. All these complains are definitely a red flag and you can get better rates on other insurance companies. I wish I knew that before I signed up for them. Another thing I noticed, if you try to review their plan on their website, they will not post the negative reviews. I've never said this in any of my Yelp reviews, so this is a first: I believe this company is a borderline scam. I took a chance and signed up with them when I got my last lease and it has been nothing but problems from day one. Their billing systems are terrible. I have been double billed, and I have had my policy randomly cancelled twice. When they cancelled the policy they sent out a couple of really poorly worded, snarky letters. Their online portal is 100% horrible. I tried updating my policy information there, and tried canceling twice and nothing in the portal actually works. I believe this is broken by design because they want to keep people from canceling their awful policies. I've called three times and cancelled TWICE. The representatives both times told me they would email me a confirmation of the cancellation, and that never happened. Both times they told me they could NOT provide a confirmation number over the phone because "their computers were down". This is where I believe they are nothing but low-end scammers. There is no email address available on their website, just an online form which appears to not work. I have never gotten a response when I used it. The hold times to talk to a representative are between 45-60 minutes; this is not an exaggeration. I highly recommend calling 21st Century Insurance to get a renter's insurance plan. I've had my auto policy with them for years, and their service is exceptional. Whatever you do, do NOT sign up with this company. Their plans are overpriced, the service is beyond bad, and I question whether they would actually pay a claim at this point. read more

However, in the email that they sent me, it stated a different date for the cancellation (which was after the date of the payment).. So it looks like I have to pay for one more month. The worst! I made an account JUST to keep you from getting this plan if possible. First off, one time, they randomly canceled my policy and I didn't notice. Then I got an email 5 months after it was canceled with them telling me they were going to contact my apartment complex for nonpayment EVEN THOUGH THEY CANCELED IT DUE TO AN ERROR. Then, I had to pay $135 UPFRONT because they said I was overdue and they were going to take it to collections. I shouldn't have been so naive. On top of that, last month we had a terrible ice storm and all of my food went bad due to our electric being out for 3 days. I called the claims department to have it reimbursed and haven't heard back. I've called 5 times now. In a month. Nothing. Nothing at all. Can't file a claim. Can't cancel. If you try to make a payment by card, it's requiring a 4 digit year but my card only has a 2 digit number for the year so it's always declined. I was recommended this company by my apartment office but wish I never used them. The quick sign up doesn't make up for their horrible service. After moving I had to cancelled my policy _multiple_ times! I just got an email saying their going to charge my account... for an apartment I no longer live in! I waited for over 15 minutes on the phone and end up with someone who had no idea what was going on. He acted as if the account was never cancelled. Last time i spent 1.20 minutes on the phone and they claimed their information system would not let them refund me from 5/12/2012 (they can only from 1/1/2014). That is very convenient! So I've been patient enough and I spent hours over the phone. I decided to file a complain to Better Business Bureau - they are not rated (that tells you a lot how serous erentalplan.com is not) and they have several investigations in progress. Of course they make enrollment easy...but cancellation is HARD! You may pay hundreds of extra dollars for years in the future. I was charged two years after signing up and moving out. When you sign up, you must auto renew. They don't even require you to authorize a renewal, so if life happens or moving distracts you, you'll be paying for at least another year. Have been trying all day, held on through their annoying, "thank you for holding, a rep. will be with you shortly", message. After calling 5 times got answered after 3PM, in the "hang on" que for 45 minutes, Rep answered I explained the problem, Rep said "just a moment", and 30 minutes later, still holding, POOF, he's gone, HUNG UP!!!. Meantime, I'd instigated another call from my cell, and I'm into this call 40 minutes, hang on, so far. A VERY BAD way to do business and would give zero stars if I could've.
