So, this review is based strictly on my hair's outcome and whether it matched my expectations. I've been having my hair colored professionally for 12 years now - I've never colored it using box dye because I trust in good stylists and value stylists who understand my goal to preserve the integrity of my hair. Moving from salon capital of the country (NYC) to Boston newly, I did not find a stylist here yet, so I decided to give Patrick a go since his Instagram pictures are vibrant. Please keep in mind, that I purchased a Groupon, the total cost of which cost me $250 + tip at the salon. On the day of my appointment, I asked Patrick whether I could go back to a dark grey shade, as my hair was previously gray, but I stopped maintaining it due to the pandemic forcing salons closed. I explained that I understand multiple sessions will have to had to acquire a desired level of gray. He mentioned that he could achieve the look I wanted using the color melt technique, and I was on board. At the end of the day, my hair was nicely done with some strands of blonde/orange mismatch. 2 weeks post hair salon visit and about 5 washes in that time, my hair had 4 different shades - dark grey, light grey, red, and unpleasant blonde. When I washed my hair, the color wore off in an unpleasant manner and I looked so bad that MANY of my coworkers commented on it, which was embarrassing and made me want to shrivel up when they assumed I box dyed ghetto hair on to myself. I decided to bite the bullet and go to another stylist at the Acote Salon to get an opinion on what went wrong. That stylist stated that Patrick's technique used was not suitable for my Asian hair, and that the colors used were not done properly, hence my rainbow head. I required a color correction, which then cost me another $200 at Acote. Altogether, I spent nearly $550 total to get my hair done and to fix the mess it was within 2 weeks of getting it done at Somerville hair co. I don't believe Patrick intentionally ruined my hair, but I don't believe he was honest with himself or me when he said he was trained to work towards the first step of getting my hair back to silver. I wish he'd simply suggested something else in that case and I would have been open to it as I'm not strict about my hair, having colored it for years. I just wanted to have fun with my hair. Furthermore, I wish he was more honest about the final result he'd done which has unusual colors peaking out before I left his salon. He was so friendly that it hurts me to write this post, but I spent a huge chunk of my money at this salon, only to have it re-done properly. Perhaps we just weren't a good match and that's all it was. Overall, Patrick is a wonderful individual - I just wish I'd gone to a trusted stylist who's work I was already familiar with instead of trying someone new who wasn't familiar with my hair.

The deposit is one thing, but what bothered me most was the complete lack of respect for my time, travel, planning, and professionalism. I had to rearrange my entire weekend right before a work trip to make this appointment happen. To his credit, the owner eventually apologized and offered to refund my deposit, but a refund does not undo the time, money, and inconvenience this caused.
