I just got home for a late morning hair appointment with Eric and I have to say it is the most pampered I've felt in a long time. I love my hair. I love my hair color. I'm naturally a 'dark blond/light brown' (with strands of gray which attempt to peek thru now and again- sneaky they are). I've not actually *seen my natural color since I was 13 and started using my hair as an accessory rather than a necessity. I've been; rose red, cobalt blue and a few colors in between - I *hung onto platinum blonde toned to vanilla forever... and ever. It's the easiest to get to any other color I felt like dumping on it. But finally, a couple years ago - I moved with my family back to Maui and decided to give my hairs a break - I dyed it dark black/brown and didn't look back. Roots were not some HUGE issue, until the gray could be seen at the hairline. I could go months without coloring - but we're back in the city now and I've found the person who can care for my hair, be creative in his advice and offerings and honestly, if you are looking for a stylist make your appointment here. I gave Eric carte blanche - cut it and color it. It's spring, so I'm ready for a change. He did an excellent job. The cut is clean and fantastic, (I have a short sort of modified pixie) The color was unexpected. And delightful! He blocked in some honey, copper and caramel and the effect on the darker brown is epic! He only uses this rad vegetable dye product that actually smells really good and isn't as damaging to my hair! Yay! It's vibrant and alive - he also put on a color shine on top of the whole thing. I love it (and as soon as I put on some decent lipstick I'll upload a new photo!) Thanks Eric!! I'll see you in 4 weeks! Cost and Deal Note* I wanted to add that I showed him my Yelp Deal and asked if he needed the redemption code but he didn't and told me, that basically it's the price of the haircut. So he charges $75 for a cut... which means there is really no 'deal' per se. Because I was supposed to get $115 worth of service, not just the $75 I paid in advance. I just think they may not understand how the whole 'deal' works. Total cost out the door not including tip of $20 was $189 + the $75 I paid for the deal. It is pricey but I do believe you get what you pay for both in expertise and service/surroundings. read more

WAY Overpriced. Ok, I get it... its a salon on Madion Ave. I should have realized. But, I saw the Yelp coupon so I didn't really think about it. I got an appointment right away and everyone was extremely friendly and wonderful. I am the kind of person who really caers about customer service, probably above the final result, so that worked in their favor. It started off with them asking me if I bought the yelp discount. I said I did and they said to me "next time, you can just call the salon and ask for the discount. it costs us money to put it on yelp so its better for us if you just call us". Um....... thats not cool. I am here because of Yelp. Give credit (and $$) where credit is due. Thats the price of advertising, dudes. Anyway, I had Eric and he was fabulous. Funny, sweet, great color. My issue comes down to the cut. I have a medium bob that I'm growing out. I said "I don't really need a cut, just clean up the back of my neck if it needs it." He did. maybe 6 snips with the scissors. Not even enough to show me in the mirror or discuss. When I went to pay, they charged me $115 for the cut. WHAT???? I confirmed "Oh...um, i got like, a trim, barely." The lady said yes, thats the price. Eric overheard and did nothing. Thats the price. "Wow. Ok. It was like, a couple snips.". Nothing. I had a good experience otherwise and was thrown so off guard that I just paid it. She said "Well, now that you're a client, it will only be $85 in the future." No it won't. I'll have a stranger on the street give me 6 small snips for a coffee, how about that? If they charged for a trim I would be settled and this would be "my place". But paying full price for a style and getting virtually nothing really turned me off of this place. Oh, and cheating Yelp. I won't go back which is unfortunate. Visited this salon this weekend with a deal I got through Groupon. I started off with a wash and Japanese deep conditioning treatment. The conditioning treatment definitely left my hair feeling silky smooth and was unique as they put this product in my hair and then place a large heating bag on top of it for about 20 minutes. The haircut itself lasted about 8 minutes with Eric snipping away. He started blowing dring my hair but then stopped and went to help someone else 1/3 of the way through. His sidekick completed the job and all in all she did a good job. I was interested in getting extension and found out they charge around $1,500!! This place is a bit too steep for me without a deal. The same treatment and haircut without a deal would have cost me around $200, that's too expensive for less than 1 hour worth of service. If you don't mind paying it's a great place. read more

This is the best haircut and highlights I had ever had..ever! They look natural and he angled my long hair around my face amazingly! Where has he been all my life??!!! This is a new salon in my neighborhood so I thought I would give it a shot after reading a few other great reviews. WOW!! I thought I wouldn't be able to afford it since I can't afford most salons on Madison Ave but the prices are reasonable and the guy that did my hair really knows his stuff. I can tell when a stylist isn't experienced by the way they handle your hair like they have never touched hair before. Not this guy. I had my hair done by Eric himself and he did an amazing job. I told him when I walked in that I was on my lunch hour and didn't have a lot of time - he said "No problem!" and 2 seconds later I was in the chair having my hair washed. He cut my hair so fast! I was done in less than 45 minutes. The cut was incredible and the style lasted a very long time - about 4 months before I started looking scrappy. It was expensive though - $135 for a wash, cut and blow. I was a little upset that I noticed a yelp deal when I went back to review it - I do wish he would have let me know. I want to go back for a cut, but I don't feel like spending the money. I would absolutely go if I came across a yelp deal. read more

I've been going to Eric for over 7 years. I really should've stopped going 4 years ago but I kept giving him another chance. I've had both color and haircuts. He's a great colorist (he was) and an ok stylist. I started to go just for color and I only went about 3 times a year. When I first went he was great, attentive, caring, and discussed the color with me before he began. He even would add beautiful highlights at times. As time went by he became more money hungry and more careless. He would always complain that he didn't have enough clients and couldn't meet his rent. Eventually he joined forces with 2 or 3 other stylists who brought in clients. 90% of the clients are over 55 years (It looks like a nursing home salon now). At every visit he became increasingly short tempered and rude and every time I would go he would raise the price at least $10-$20 from the last visit. It kept frustrating me but I would love the color most of the time so I would put up with the attitude and price. Then he started coloring my hair without a discussion. I don't necessarily want it the same color every time. Finally about 2 weeks ago I had a nice light brown color that I loved and wanted to keep. He started to color it and I asked if it was the same as what I had. He mumbled yes. He slapped on the color while he did a cut and blow dry with someone else. Then he set the timer and it rang and he ignored it. He didn't come by to check my hair for at least 20 minutes after the timer because he was busy with someone else. Then he washed my hair burning my head with hot water until I finally raised my voice. Then when he dried it my roots are bright red and the rest light brown and he charged me $95! I couldn't see it well in the light they had (I have bad eyes) and didn't really notice the drastic difference until I got home. Reddish purple on top of my head and light brown on the bottom. I could've done that mess myself with a bottle of clairol for $15. Then when I told him about it and asked him to fix it, he told me to come in. I made 3 different appointments for him to fix the color and 3 times he sent his receptionist to call me and cancel. He's such a 2 face. He never had any intention to fix the color and ripped me off $95 for a root touch up. What a crook. I'm never going there again. read more

I decided to wait a few days to write my review just to see how it was after washing. I saw the reviews here on Yelp and I'm new to the area so thought I would try it out. I really love the cut and his technique works really well for my hair (a lot of hair but kind of fine and usually very straight). If you see any reviews that "all he did was a few snips" realize he has been doing this a long time and knows what he is doing. In fact, I would definitely go back with how easy it was to communicate what I wanted and he even made it better. It isn't cheap, but for the cut I would say reasonably priced (again I am bias because I liked his technique for my hair). You get what you pay for and I'm happy. read more

This place is great. I called when they opened and got an appointment that morning. They are very professional, service-oriented and FAST!!! I was in and out of there in 30 minutes, I was shocked and very pleased. Great stylist, expert snipping. I really got the sense that he knew what I was looking for right away, and he did. The entire process was very relaxing and convenient. I found the studio on yelp and decided to give it a shot after having refrained from cutting my hair for the past three years (the decision was not easy for me). I called at noon and asked if I could make a same-day appointment. The young woman on the phone was very personable and helped schedule one at the most convenient time. As soon as I got there, I was greeted at the top of the staircase and ushered in. It's a small place and I was the only one there at the time and Eric greeted me with a smile. They washed and conditioned my hair carefully before the styling began. My request was vague: I wanted to cut most of it off but still wanted to maintain a medium length hairstyle. He went to work immediately, and even adhered to my request to save the initial 8 inch cut so I could donate the hair later. After twenty or so minutes, he was done. I put on my glasses and was flabbergasted. It was perfect. I was satisfied with my venture and will recommend Eric's to anyone as a new, loyal customer. Understood it is an eccentric location for a hair salon, but ERic's Hair and Nail in a hidden gem. The Upper East Side is lacking in anyone who is able to cut hair. Eric is meticulous and warm. It is a saloon of korean-speaking stylists, but they will be able to do alomst anything you request. read more

Amazing salon with amazing products and an amazing hair stylist! I have been going to Eric for 10 years now to do the straightening treatment on my hair. I first began going to him when he worked at Bloom Hair & Nail Spa and now I have followed him to his very own hair studio. I fly from Miami every year to have my hair done with him. His treatment leaves my hair incredibly soft, healthy and straight. His products are truly one of a kind because they do not leave an ounce of damage on my hair. This is a great hidden find. No need to pay top dollar in an insane midtown location when you can have a comfortable, roomy, friendly and quiet environment which has amazing hair stylists for men and women. I was lucky to find out about Eric's place (I'm a guy) and they are the nicest people and give great haircuts. I can say this because my friends love my new haircut and constantly ask where I go. The keratin treatment will bring your hair back to when you were 16 years old and put a skip in your step! A weekly visit is a must have to maintain your lovely hair.
