Very nice ambience and customer service really enjoyed karaoke night which I believe was on Tuesday.

I went for the first time with friends. We played darts and they have an updated jukebox, so we played some music. The people were friendly and the bar staff were very nice. We did not eat anything but we did have several drinks. We will be back. read more

I was kicked out because of something that went down (mutually) between a different bar and owner. Then one day, like any other day,I stopped in for a drink and I was told that I can't be there because of that incident. I'm actually writing this review as a response to ADAY J, I was there that night, it was extremely packed, I wasn't even getting my drinks quickly and I am a regular, they know exactly what I want. When you didn't get quick enough service you copped an attitude which if I was a bartender that's not how your going to get me to move quickly. Then you decided to throw a drink at the bartender because somehow not getting your drinks fast enough warrants that kind of an action. As far as your check goes the three different cards you gave them would not go through due to insufficient funds so there was no receipt they could give you. One of the other patrons at the bar paid your $35 tab so you would leave without causing more of a scene. Which by the way, the average drink price there is about six dollars, so therefore you got six drinks, that to me doesn't seem like you weren't getting any service... Just saying I've been coming to the Interlude for over 15 years, it is one of the best neighborhood bars in the area. Super friendly bartenders and an atmosphere that is fun and inviting. Racist bar against African American people. Kelly bartender did not serve me and my fiance drinks. Watched her fill other Caucasians drinks to the rim of alcohol in big glass. I had to scream her name when the music was off for service and she still did not serve us. Didn't want to give us our checks and watched her argue with another biracial couple about their drinks. Do not recommend this bar for African Americans. Never thought in Carmichael, I would experience racism. read more

Ernie's Interlude: such an ironically classy name, lol. I think I just contracted Hep B in here after five minutes of enduring karaoke. If you are extremely smashed and have a sense of humor, this is a great place to troll truck- driven, Fox News Lovin', Trump supporters. No mixed drinks or taps. Just good 'ol Coors Light here, baby. Oh Ernie. Why weren't you living up to your Yelp stars when I visited? Maybe it was because I dropped in on a Sunday night. Maybe it is because people were fulfilling new year's resolutions to stay on the wagon. Maybe because...I've experienced better? Kind of intimidating from the outside, there are no windows so you don't know what you're walking into! I saw a cute cat hanging out in the parking lot and saw this as a good sign. Walking in, there were four people in the joint. The bartender - while not unfriendly - didn't seem like he was too happy to be there, or maybe that's just how he is. Like the fact that there are video cameras showing the parking lot bordering the fence. I also liked watching the cat running around the parking lot on the monitor. That was pretty much the extent of the action. The jukebox is one of them newfangled machines where it is touch screen, and songs cost $.50 to $1. Gimme one of those relics that plays seven songs for a buck! This one was a lot pricier. I think we got maybe seven songs for FIVE bucks! And they don't have R.E.M. on this jukebox either. But they do have Grandmaster Flash! Two well drinks set me back $7. It will be a long time until I try this spot out again -- unless you're buying! read more

I am basing my 5 stars on my one and only visit there so far. A small group of friends and I went in on a Thursday, around 8 or 9 pm, and they had Karaoke going. The vibe was good, nice chill people just wanting to have fun. The bar tender was great, she was busy but didn't miss a beat. The place is clean, and light, not what I imagined from the reviews I read. It's not upscale and it's not dingy. It's a cool place. I will be going there with my groups again for sure. To me a good dive bar will have most (if not all) of the following features: - low lit cave-like interior, windows optional - cheap prices and stiff mixed drinks - relaxed crowd who aren't there to be seen (little or no hipsters) - a jukebox - shuffleboard, darts, or similar game - popcorn, peanuts, some kind of bar snack Luckily Ernie's Interlude met my dive criteria perfectly! This was the second time I have been to Ernie's interlude, which was way better the second time, but really it was the third and a half time I have ever, ever been in a karaoke club. The third real time I never made it into the place on Auburn Blvd, which had an huge crowd. i don't think I would have pop my cherry in that place to try and sing, too many witnesses. That's not why I didn't go into the other place. I was sick due to some small health problems. So that time only counts as half, for intent.My first impression of Ernie's, was a misunderstanding between two human trying to communicate in a loud happy karaoke club about a missing drink and money. Anyways on to the now time. I did try and sing. Couldn't stop from laughing at myself or follow the words on the big board in front of me, but I had a fun time at Ernie's. The crowd was very supportive and helped me stubble through a song I didn't even know very well. I got a cherry in whipping cream for my first performance, plus the kind DJ took a picture for me to send to my daughter, who's in North Carolina. She also doesn't know that I am out this late doing this karaoke stuff. No, she doesn't even know, so don't tell her. She doesn't like me telling her t. Had to stop I burnt the rice. Don't tell my daughter that either. Well I am just a little closer than most to the life cycle. Trying to go out laughing and singing. My daughters, sons and my wife, who is in heaven waiting for me. Never under estimate the cliché dive bar. Lots of locals come here, it's full of your every day friendly people. Yes, it's a small little place in Carmichael, not on the main strip, but that doesn't matter, this place is so great! The drinks are extremely reasonably priced and very well-made. Basic drinks, no-frills, but a great place to get your basic drink. The bartenders are super accommodating and friendly. We went for our first time for their Halloween party. The place was completely packed And they had karaoke going. It was the best fun! They serve unlimited popcorn which is yummy, right!?! And guess what? Been driving by this place since I moved to Sac. Intrigued, but scared. Just seemed like I didn't want to know what was going on behind those doors. Finally, the wife talked me into going here for a drink before dinner. First of all it wasn't scary at all. Unless your scared of the Geritol. We were the youngest people in this bar by thirty years. Some of these people were close to dead. The young bar fly trying to get guys to buy her drinks was well over fifty. This place is crazy. A one man band was setting up in the corner. The drinks a stiff and cheap. Why water down drinks when your customers have bladder control problems. Anyway, an adventure to be had. Your not going to spend all day here, but at least you can say you went. P.S. just a side note, but have you realized all the best bars have no windows. There's nothing like going into a bar while it's light outside and forgetting what time it is because you haven't seen the sun. Eeeeeh it's a dive bar if your lookin fer one...... that's all I could come up with for my feelings of this place. Parking was available in front and back of the bar , although it looked like most of the patrons walked or rather stumbled in by foot. Yeah! More room for me to park like a jerk and take up two spaces. I was talked into going to this bar by friends who wanted to participate in the ancient art of Kar-a-oke ....(this is where you laugh) Anywho ... We all piled into the bar 1,2,3,4 and me 5 ok were all here pffffew it was like crossing the Korean border getting into this place. First of all there was a intoxicated man trying to collect a cover charge outside. I'm pretty sure he didn't work there , unless they employ people that have no shoes and smell of urine and bourbon. It's your typical trashy bar , dark inside sticky floors, that musty smell of maybe spilt beer and possibly vomit but slightly covered up by the odor of the popcorn machine... The thought of the "door man" actually working there is becoming a real possibility at this point. Well were all here to have a few beers and sing a couple songs and have fun. I quickly found out that there were no beer(s) on tap... Bummer. Well 99bottles of beer on the wall it must be! The bar service was however pretty quick. The bartender was friendly and gave me a list of bottled options. As she was talking to me I couldn't help but notice I was being glared at by a disgruntled man at the bar tossing around dice. Apparently I was told to pay him no mind as he was the local drunk who lived upstairs. I guess he's some urban legend or something....haha idk but I guess it makes for a good tourist attraction?! It was well organized and continuously flowed from one song to the next. No were no awkward moments of silence. This is the kinda bar where if you show up in yesterday's clothes it's ok , and if you want a fancy cocktail or craft beer it's not the place. However if you want to forget about all those snotty girls that run club to club in their Christian Louboutin's talking about how much money they (I mean daddy and mommy) have, you have found the right place. This feels like when I found the holy grail of pizza- it's the holy grail of hole-in-the-wall bars! The first thing I noticed was the air inside. It was clean. It smelled GOOD. It had all the elements you love in a dive bar- kitchy decor, interesting people, well-poured and affordable booze - all without the cobwebs, sticky floor, angry drunks, and lingering smell of vomit. Diana took really good care of us - making sure we had water whenever she brought us a drink, finding a flashlight when we couldn't see the karaoke list, and being generally sweet and pleasant. She also split our bill without hassle or issue. My friends and I all agreed that we had found a rare gem, and we will be back! read more

The 'Lude is a pretty fun, pretty chill place. Not much remodeling has been done since...oh say the 60's, and that was just fine with us. Good, strong, cheap drinks. Excellent jukebox. There was even an impromptu whole-bar sing along when "Poppa Was A Rolling Stone" played. You should go. Soak up the scenery. Meet the excellent bartendresses. Chat with the regulars. Ernie's is a tiny cocktail bar where the drinks are stiff and you'll be like family after your first visit. Don't come expecting the fanciest ingredients or the widest variety, but it's definitely a good place to come if you're looking to take a load off and hang with the other regulars. Most exceptionally, it's a dive bar that doesn't smell or run themselves like a dive bar--everything is clean, the floors aren't stick or gross, and the bathrooms don't remind me of a war zone. Service was friendly and prompt, and I'll forgive him for not having ginger ale to mix with my whisky. A vanilla vodka and diet coke fit the bill just fine for the evening. read more

Friendly little neighborhood dive bar. I just moved into the area and so glad i found this little hidden secret. It's dark, it's divey, it's very low tech, it's got comfy seats so it's s great chill out bar. The ladies that work there are nice and call you honey and sweetie. gotta love that! God's waiting room???!!!!! I don't know about all that, but then again I've never been during the day. My few visits have been on Saturdays with a couple of friends of mine. They go every Saturday night for karaoke and I go occasionally with them. The Saturday night crowd is very diverse. It's a wide age range with all types of characters. It depends on what you like in a bar and your surroundings when you go out. I personally prefer to surround myself with a somewhat older crowd and people who wear clothes that fit them and speak proper English. I'm not the biggest fan of the Saturday crowd, but Tracy the Saturday night bartender is really nice. It's a small place that gets packed so be prepared. read more

A neighbor told me about Ernie's giving free drinks to those who voted and had the sticker. I stopped in to ask and was given a stiff bourbon for voting! (any drink not just bourbon) Being a black woman, I was thinking "here we go" one and only..the bartender, a black gentleman made me feel at ease. Ernie's Interlude is Old School Sacramento. Like Mattie sez, from the outside it looks like a crappy old neighborhood bar. Once you walk in it's actually kinda nice and classy. Lots of polished wood and brass. Very 1970's classy. Plenty of seating at the bar as well as high bar stools and tables against the wall. Ernie's also has it's own mini-library where you can read some classic books while sipping a classy adult beverage. Where for art thou Romeo? Passed out in the bathroom? Even the bartender was dressed all snazzy. He was an older gentleman with a crisp white long sleeve dress shirt. He also sported a fancy bartender's vest. It make getting liquored up at Ernie's more "official". I bet Ernie's was a good place to make a lunchtime business deal back in the day. read more

I drove by Ernie's every day on my way to High School and was intrigued from the get go. I must say I was a little let down when I finally made it inside, as I had been anticipating something similar to it's eerie exterior. But, that being said, it is actually rather nice inside. And has a popcorn machine. YUM! The clientele is a bit older than I, but that's how a bar like this is supposed to be anyway. Be sure to check out the creepy clown paintings on the walls. This is one of those places that it might take a couple of visits to feel that you fit in, as most of the customers are regulars. However, they do make everyone feel welcome. As other have said the age group of the crowd is very diverse, especially on Saturday nights when ther is karaoke. Then it can get very crowded as well.
