I been trying to make it out to Stoney's Rockin Rodeo for years and finally just said forget it let's goooo... and honestly I should have came sooner. Walked in ready to learn some line dancing and ended up having a blast. The vibe in here is legit... good country music, cold beers, people actually having fun, and not everyone standing around staring at their phones lol. Now let's talk about the parking lot... it is absolute survival mode you better get in where you fit in because once it gets busy it turns into organized chaos. If you know, you know. Security and ID check at the front was smooth though and honestly appreciated. Professional, friendly, and for $10 to get in it's hard to complain. The bartender had me cracking up all night. I ordered a Miller Genuine Draft and the look he gave me was like I just ordered the finest whiskey in the building instantly became friends. He kept calling it "the champagne of beers" and every time I walked back up he'd point and go "I know what you drink!" I was like damn... one night in and I'm already a regular hahaha. If you've never been to Stoney's Rockin Rodeo before, just know... these people came READY Everybody somehow already knows every single dance to every song, and if you don't, you'll probably spend part of the night sitting there completely impressed watching the synchronized chaos unfold on the dance floor. I managed to confidently jump in for the Cupid Shuffle because that was the only one I fully knew I attempted a few others by following random people's feet and let's just say... it was humbling, but honestly so much fun. The vibe here is great and everyone seemed to just be having a genuinely good time. They have 2 bars, tons of space for dancing, plenty of seating, a mechanical bull, and surprisingly good food too. I'd definitely recommend taking the dance lessons first if you're new because these regulars are NOT playing around Great spot for a fun night out. The service is friendly too. What a night!!! We had a 10/10 night here at Stoney's on Thursday night. What luck to be in town for a math conference and get to join the locals for such a fun night. We got there around 7pm to get settled and a drink before joining the salsa and bachata lesson. Let me tell you, the owners and managers saw us coming from a mile away. They clocked us as "tourists" immediately. They gave us a tour, reserved a couple of tables, and treated us to a shot to start our night with a bang. What a welcome!! All ten of us felt like celebrities and truly cherished. We had such a great time dancing through the lesson. There was a great DJ that was timing the music with the lesson. All my partners were so respectful and kind as we were dancing. I felt safe and welcomed. I got a strawberry Moscow mule from the bar and it was delicious! The bartender was great! After we were done dancing, we moved to the front of the house and did Karaoke. It was throwback night, so we were only allowed to sing throwback songs from the 80s and 90s. I thought that was funny and stringent for no reason. I loved it. We sang I'm real by Jarule and JLo. It was embarrassing and so fun! The drinks were $12, the fries were reasonable, and we tipped the MC for karaoke. What a fun night!!! I can't recommend this place enough for when you're in Sacramento on a Thursday night. Wow $12.99 prime rib dinner that comes with veggie and mash, how can you turn that down??? We arrived around 5pm on a Friday night. There were quie a few people there, ordering the same. The prime was perfectly cooked to our choices: medium, medium-rare, and rare. We also ordered the fried pickles and mushrooms... those for excellent... a must try. They have salsa, line-dancing, and karaoke. It's hard to believe that they have been there for 30 years! Around 10pm, there was a long line of folks trying to get in. Decided to check this place out as it was one of the only results that popped up under "country bars in Sacramento". We were mainly intrigued to go here for their amazing $12 Prime rib special from 5pm to 6pm. You guys see the receipt, it's legit! The prime rib plate was very tasty and cooked perfect to our liking. We also got regular french fries and decided to also try their beer battered fried mushrooms. Mushrooms were surprisingly super yummy, especially dipped in one of their spicy, orange sauce they provided us. Everything including a Shirley temple and beer came out to $55. I honestly thought that price was well worth it. This was probably the first time in a while that I can justify a meal actually worth the price in Sacramento! We got there right after they opened, so there wasn't much of a vibe going on yet. It was our first time to a place like this, so we did expect to feel a little out of place; UNTIL we had a chance to meet with the owner Kevin. Although we had only a short conversation with him, he made us feel welcomed and encouraged us to come out again to see his dance moves that earned him the nickname "2-stepin Kevin". He also gave us some backstory about the place itself which was interesting. They taught a line dancing lesson around 7pm. It was nice to see a bunch of people enjoying the vibes and just having fun. Kevin was right when he told us Sacramento needed a place like this. My husband and I, our 16yr old daughter and six of her friends have been going country line dancing at "Family Night" most every Sunday from 5-8pm. It is sooooo fun! The staff are amazing! From Charity at the front entrance to the amazing DJ, Will, the fantastic dance teachers and everyone else who works there! We truly feel like part of the family when we show up! I've been to Stoney's a few times, most recently this past Saturday for a Girls Night Out. We arrived after 8pm and it started slowing getting busy around 9pm. The dance floor had a few people cutting loose by the time we got there! I like that they offer dance lessons from 7-8pm which we will definitely be taking advance of next time. We were able at least do the Electric Slide and the Cupid Shuffle - the other dances were a bit harder to learn that quickly - didn't stop us from trying though! They also do Karaoke around 9pm inside and that's always a blast - whether you have the confidence to actually sing or are just an innocent bystander. They're food is pretty good too! We didn't partake this time, but I am a fan of their fried pickles! I know that they did a Prime Rib dinner special earlier in the evening as well! Drinks are strong and fairly cheap. Parking is a bit questionable depending on what time you arrive and there was a $7 cover charge when we showed up just after 8pm. read more

We didn't go into it with the highest of expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised how good the prime rib was! It also came with a side of veggies and mashed potatoes. Sadly Disappointed. Stoney's has a reputation in Sacramento for being a fun square-dancing bar that locals have been recommending since I moved here. I finally gathered the courage and my girls to go square dancing on a Friday night. We checked the website to make sure that we got there in time for the lessons. First issue was that the website was wrong. The square dancing lessons didn't start until about 8:30, which created a big gap of time from when we arrived. This wasn't a big deal because I wanted to try the food for Yelp. This was my next mistake because we all got bad food poisoning. We ordered three different dishes: Shredded Pork Quesadilla, Mac and Cheese, and Chicken Fingers with Fries. The food was okay for bar food but definitely worth getting food poisoning. I was not drinking that night as the designated driver so I know that it was the food since we shared the food. I will not be coming back unfortunately nor will I be recommending it to friends. Great spot! I came here on a Saturday night with some friends. We came after 10pm so we didn't get a chance to catch the live music but the separate outdoor area seemed like a great venue space. The dance floor was good quality and there was about a 80% line dances and 20% partner dances ratio. A mix of two step, choreographed partner dances and country swing was played. The DJ was very friendly and played our requests very quickly! Loved how the seating was around the dance floor so you could easily watch the dancers and enjoy yourself with a group of friends. Also appreciated the water jug. Came with friends who don't often go out dancing and they had a good time even if they weren't on the dance floor much! read more

If you want strong drinks go to the back bar , I'm a cheap date when it comes to alcohol and the front bar made 2 margaritas and they tasted like sour mix ...went to the back bar and the 2 guy bartenders were awesome ! The first several times I came here if I'm honest... I wasn't a fan, but as I kept somehow ending up here Stoney's started to grow on me. I started to learn more line dances and found out they had a lot of activities that I'd overlooked before. To take full advantage of what Stoney's has to offer, I would recommend these tips: 1. Arrive at 7:00 to take part in the dance lesson. It usually consists of 2-3 line dances to popular country and pop music and the instructor is really great!! 2. Don't spend the whole night sitting watching the dances. It gets really loud so it's not the best environment to talk and so it can get a bit boring if you don't know any of the dances. Go outside and play a game of water pong if its set up, talk with friends. Go to the back and sing a karaoke song or maybe play foosball at the foosball table, order a drink from the bar or some food from the counter. Their tatter tots are great and come with three sauces. If none of those options sound appealing then try the mechanical bull in the back. Check out stoney's if you have any desire at all to try line dancing. You won't regret it:) read more

Where do I start?! This place was an absolute blast. We went here with a group and I'm convinced you can't have this much fun anywhere else in Sac all at once. They do lessons from 6-8p and then you dance as much or as little as you like. I expected the drink options to be limited, but they had everything from lemon drops to beer to shots to keep everyone happy. The sliders were tasty and I didn't want to stop eating the fries! The loaded tater tots will have me coming back. There is a good amount of seating around the dance floor, but get there early if you're there on a Saturday night and want seats. We never had to wait long to get more drinks and the bathrooms were clean. I want to spend every Saturday night here for the rest of the summer! read more

5 stars for Mike the bartender; negative stars for Danny the bouncer and supposed bouncer manager. My husband and I frequent a nearby brewery and their customers recommended Stony's for a cheap prime rib. Mind you, the only thing we knew about this place is they had prime rib. I thought they were only a restaurant. My husband and I had been looking for houses all week and did not want to cook in the heat. Our son was driving back up from the Bay Area with his GF - we were all tired and said -- let's go to Stoney's to grab a cheap prime rib and call it a night. We walk up to the entrance and notice a podium and Danny, along with one other man standing there. Danny asked for our IDs and we asked him - do they always check IDs in Sacramento for dinner (we are new here from the Bay). He didn't answer but said there was a cover charge. My husband and I looked at each other and said out loud - we have never in our adult life had to pay a cover to eat at a restaurant. We asked if this was 18 and up because our son and his GF were meeting us and would be here in a minute. He said yes it was 18 and up. We were extremely tired and didn't want to argue so we showed our IDs, put on the wrist band and started to pay the $5 per person cover. At this point Danny said it would be $15 per each college kid and my husband and I said you know what, we aren't going to pay $40 just to enter and eat a prime rib. We said thanks but no thanks and walked away. We got about 30 seconds into walking away from the restaurant when Danny said rather loudly and antagonistically, "welcome to the real world!" Umm, what?!? My husband and I looked at each other, turned around and went right back to Danny. I was quite loud when I said - in what "real world does a person pay $40 to eat a low budget prime rib. We make plenty of money to afford the cover to eat a shitty prime rib. We've been to Michelin star restaurants and didn't pay a cover. We have the right to not pay and you should just shut your mouth." He wanted to be a smart mouth and continue to escalate the situation. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he was the manger. At this point, I march my behind into the restaurant and I hear Danny say good luck, I'm the manager - implying he runs the whole place and nothing is going to happen. I see Mike the bartender and I demand to speak to a manager. He tells me Danny is the manager and then corrects himself when I push further and he explains that he's the security manger. I explain the situation, let him know I bartended at a high volume nightclub in college, where we charged a $20 per person fee in the early 2000s and if people didn't want to pay, we never antagonized them. Mike lets me know there is a fee to see the band playing and dance. I explained that we had told Danny MULTIPLE time we were there to just eat but again, it's our prerogative whether or not to pay and we shouldn't be degraded as we walk away. He agreed and said that he should have better explained the situation - there's a band and dancing and not charged us a cover if we just wanted to eat. That there's not a charge to just eat. At this point the owner came out and tried cover for Danny. I said - you weren't even out there and didn't see the interaction and don't excuse his poor decision making because he's there to deescalate not instigate situations. At this point, Danny comes waddling in with his arms crossed and tells me to leave or else he's going to call the cops. I said, I'm talking to the owner, be quiet, and call the cops then. I continued talking with the owner and Mike - they did apologize for ridiculous situation. At this point, my son comes barging in and starts yelling at Mike - i tell him - no, Mike is cool. Danny is the issue Anyway, we eventually leave and cannot believe the whole ridiculous situation. We went to The Rind and then the Starlight Lounge where we ate a nice meal and appetizers, dropped some money, tipped 30%, and then went out the next night to Echo and Rigg. None of which charged us a $40 cover to eat or gave us smart Alec lip service. Danny, do better as a human being and a supposed security manger. Quit antagonizing hard working people who just want to eat a simple prime rib meal and quit being a general bell end. It's never going to work out for you. You lost this place business and money and cheated the waitress out of a good tip. Shame on you. Also, you mentioned you were a teacher, Danny? That's scary since you only know how to be an antagonistic bully and don't know how to educate people. Would it really have been that hard to say - oh I'm sorry, there's no cover to just eat. Went to Stoney last night with a group of friends for dinner. The food was great!! I tasted the salmon and I ordered the sautéed prawns. Both were excellent. I loved the wild rice and zucchini that came with it. The service was great; bartenders were very attentive.
