Came here after a white party. . Had some good drinks here and surprisingly it's better than the over price drinks at the fancy place near by. . I got a Hendricks gin and tonic, cost me 8 bucks. My friend got a Malibu sunset for 6 bucks. We loved our drinks. The price point is affordable too. . The ambiance was chill. It wasn't crowded and we enjoy the vibe. We felt great, had a good time and left. They take credit card too which is a plus. . Overall come here for some good strong drinks before going to a fancy place. Really surprised by how great this neighborhood bar was. Big plus for me was the extremely affordable drinks. We came in to watch Thursday night football since I read that this was a Steelers bar and I am a Steelers fan and the crowd did not disappoint. Went to Cheaters many years ago. Never had any problems until I dealt with a certain bartender. My experience with him was essentially horrible. I went on a weekday and I asked for the bartender to put on the Lakers game and he told me "you have to say please." (This was a while ago cause Kobe was still playing). I did that. Then I watched others demand him to do other things and wondered why he'd singled me out. I called him out on this and he basically cursed me out and told me to leave. I did but I never forgot how I was treated. This was weird because I'd gone there on Sundays and seen plenty people of color. I stopped going because I was tired of begging him to do his job while he was reveling in giving me shitty service. I hope they have new owners or new bartenders but I'm staying away until I can confirm both are gone. It's sad because this is a staple of Sacramento. Cheaters has grown on me over the years. As a seasoned barstool-warmer, I now have plenty of options to compare it to. While some (including the younger me) might complain about the divey-ness or the occasional riff raff, I've come around to believe that it all adds to the charm. That character is this place's fuel. The long worn bar, the many TV sets, the sports paraphernalia. It's a dark hole where you can belly-up, drink away your stress and soak in a game for an hour or three. Sure, you're bound to sit next to some colorful character who never shuts up and uses the opportunity to tell you way too much about themselves, but it makes for an interesting and memorable conversation. Don't come here seeking fancy cocktails and soulmates. Come here for a shot of bourbon, a baseball game and a respite from the stresses of day to day life. This is a true dive bar, perfectly located on Folsom boulevard...the boulevard of dives :) This place was really low key for a Friday night. A couple of staff, a few regulars, and us. Tons of sports paraphernalia lined all the walls of this place - the Bochy bobble head was my fave, by far. Full bar, which I didn't partake in, however the girls did - and thoroughly enjoyed their tasty beverages. Not generally my scene, but they were welcoming to newbie's. I will tell you the mushy, lovie dovie story first then move on to the actual establishment part of the story. Every year my mom and I visit my Great Great Aunt(now around 85 years old) in Las Vegas. Every year she would tell us a story about back in the 70's how her and my GG Uncle owned a bar in Sacramento. She would always say she highly doubts it is still around. It was called the L & H Club. She told such detailed stories about it how she would be the cocktail waitress and Uncle Ernie was a kick @ss bartender. She would talk about fights, about the locals, about a guy who came in the bar with a loaded gun to shoot my Uncle for 86in him(I think he actually fired a round), also about the OOOLD wooden bar with some weird English quote above the bar and how everyday she would make happy hour food from scratch. FROM SCRATCH!!! I got to tell you this was highly enjoyable stuff to hear. Anyway over the next couple years I gathered enough information about it to try and track down at least the building if it wasnt a bar anymore. She couldnt remember a whole bunch about location. She just remembered it was on Folsom blvd, right on the street and kind of in a little strip shopping area. I did some searching via going drinking around town and used yelp...................... ............................I walked into this place one day with my buddy. I had a good feeling. It was long and narrow liked she mentioned. It was in a small strip mall and right on the street. Talked to the bartender and YESSSSSS, this was the place. The bartender was super cool telling me about the bar back then. They remodeled the bar and it looks REALLY nice BUT kept the old wooden bar with the quote up above the bar. Very nice, little sports bar. We watched a game and had a couple drinks. I was happy. I played a couple songs on the jukebox and then took pictures and videos. It doesnt look like much on the outside, but REALLY nice on the inside.This year I went back to see my GG Aunt and showed her the videos/pictures. She got all teared up and gave me the biggest hug(RIP Uncle Ernie). Funny thing is she ended up finding some old pictures which showed that wooden bar with the quote. Pretty cool. This is a small bar that you almost miss if not looking for it. Unassuming from the outside, surprising on the inside. Long bar, high tops and chairs, tons of TV's. Nice, knowledgeable, and attentive bartenders. Great sports memorabilia around the bar. Great drinks! I would hardly call Cheaters a dive bar. Nice clean establishment with about 20 something beers on tap, juke box, and lots of sports on TV. Place was nice and clean, bartender (Joe) was freindly and attentive keeping up a nice banter and maintaining a loose atmosphere. Patrons were all nice and freindly, appeared to be a mix of local people. One word of warning, this place has no food, none. Not even potato chips or pickled eggs. This is a low-key dive-y type of bar. Drinks are reallyyyy cheap. As I can recall, a glass of red bull vodka was $5 compared to at a nightclub it would be $10-$12. This is the spot!!! I waited for 6 months to come here on a Sunday. I knew I would love this place once football started! How could I not? Being a Steelers fan and all, I was ecstatic to see the big blow up Steelers guy out front greeting people on the street. Then I walked in, and mostly everyone in there was wearing a Steelers jersey. I almost felt out of place in my corduroy skirt and t- shirt. But my mind eased as I sat at the bar and cheered for my team with the rest of the fans. I went by myself, but luckily saw a friend there. Had I not seen that friend, I still would have made some new ones. The crowd was so lively and nice. There is free chili and fixins in the back, which sealed the deal for me of this place being awesome. Who doesn't like chili?? The Coors light bottles are $3 each, which is a bit much. And only 25 cents more than a draft PBR, but, whatever. I just made up for it by eating more chili. Now even though football means beer, and lots of it, I have to tell you.... Try the Cheaters Punch!!! It is so good, tastes just like candy. They have it all mixed and super strong for Sundays. The only day they pre- make it. That stuff will get ya after a few. And it goes down so easy. I got the pleasure of meeting the owners... Those guys were hilarious! One of them (Bruce) is actually from Pittsburgh. Hence the theme of the bar.... Let me just say Cheaters is one of my favorites! My friends and I stop at cheaters pretty often, and we are never disappointed. They have some great beers on draft, shock top, blue moon, sierra nevada, and some others and it's so well priced. If your the kind of person who likes to chill at the bar, engage every now and again with the bartender, spit out some stats on the games on the screen, chop it up with some locals next to you, this is the place to go! The bartenders are awesome! Always friendly, welcoming, and never leave you thirsty, whether your waiting for your 1st drink, or waiting for your refill. I do have to be cliche and say "don't judge a book by it's cover." On the outside, its pretty plain, you pretty much can almost overlook it with the giant UFC banners hanging up next door. But once u get inside, it's just you and the bar. It's narrow and long, but spacious and cozy to enjoy a few drinks and chill out. The atmosphere is super laid back, perfect for after work, or catch a few games ( they had free hot dogs the other day!!). There are about 15 tv's throughout the bar, and my personal favorite, the digital jukebox machine. When i think Cheaters, i think coffee available at midnight, any and all sports games will be on, open at 6 am...need i say more?? There's nothing like walking into to your local neighborhood bar, chopping it up with the bartenders, watching some games and chilling out with some brewskies. In Sacramento, desperate to find an Oregon game not available on the motel channels, I had to find a sports bar likely to show the game. I found Cheater's listed on the web and the phone book. While appearances on the outside make it look like a dive, the interior confirms it. It's a shotgun layout - a long bar and tables against the wall behind it . All looking at plasma screens behind the bar and on the side walls. The bartenders go out of their way to welcome new guests - what game are you looking for? Who's your team? Then they introduce you to everyone else in the place while offering free hot dogs and popcorn. I couldn't have felt more welcome. read more

I stopped in on a mid-October Sunday while waiting to hear about a place I was trying to rent. They had multiple football football games on. There was a pretty good amount of folks in there watching football. Even with that it wasn't out of pocket. The beer was cold and well poured and bar staff was attentive. Patrons were chill and I lucked out that the open seating were next to the 2 other Niner fans in the place that day. Honestly, I'm not big on the bar scene. I got all that out of my system years ago when I used to pass out in my burger at 4am in a drunken haze after a night of hard clubbing. And I am not so much a drinker anymore, though I do enjoy a hard whisky sour on occasion. And I have to say, Cheaters pours 'em hard. I like that about them. It's small. I might even go so far as to agree with a few other yelpers and say it's a dive. But the bartenders are friendly, the regulars are friendly, and Cheaters is a great place to go for a quick change of pace. Whenever we feel like having a drink and catching a few innings of the Giants game, or going somewhere to watch football, this is the place we go.
