We had the pleasure of swinging by @yakitorichefjustin on Saturday to have some of Chef Justin's renowned yakitori. The grilled vegetables and protein were AMAZING, reasonably priced, and expertly made. Juicy and just the right amount of tenderness, perfectly capturing the flavor of the grill. Overall, we had the BEST yakitori meal we've ever had; it was an outstanding experience; WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND it! Great Vibes. Great Customer Service. OUTSTANDING FLAVORS

I saw this on Google and decided to give it a try as I have never seen an yakitori cart before in the U.S. The owner is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about his craft, introducing me the various cuts of chicken as well as recommendations for other authentic Japanese eateries. I can confidently say that these skewers are the best I have had other than Uyghur skewers. MUCH MUCH juicier than any from high-end yakitori restaurants and at a lower price. You can immediately tell that the seasonings/sauces are carefully constructed to compliment the meat, enhancing and not overpowering the tori flavor!

4 chicken skewers, 1 steak, 1 pork belly

We saw it on a TikTok and decided we had try it for lunch. It's a small cart on the corner of Newark and Hudson, in front of Starbucks. He said he tries to get there at 12pm everyday but should be up and running by 1pm. The options are: various types of chicken (chef asked us if we would want organs, which we said we'd pass on), pork belly, steak. I got the 3 chicken skewer set while my husband got 2 chickens and a steak (he wanted to try 1 of each, but the pork belly was sold out). It is made to order, so it does take some time (probably about 15 minutes). BUT, it was well worth the wait. It's actually pretty cool - he cooks the meat very carefully on a small coal fire grill. We wanted to bring the food down to the pier and eat it while enjoying the views, but literally couldn't wait to start. The chicken was incredibly well cooked- soooo juicy. Each skewer had a different type of sauce (depending on the type of chicken meat). Husband said the steak was cooked extremely well as well. By the time we reached the end of the pier, we were done eating because we inhaled the skewers. We actually happen to spend the day at the pier the next day and had to go again because it was that good. This time, we might've been the first customers of the day and my husband was able to try the pork belly. He enjoyed the pork belly, but said the chicken was still #1 - "the juiciness doesn't compare". TLDR Chef Justin said he tries to get there around 12pm (but go after 1pm to be safe) Must try chicken - juiciest skewers ever! Wait time is about 15-20 minutes - worth the wait Several payment options (venmo, cash app, zelle etc)

Excellent spot. 1) The menu has a main item, Japanese Yakitori. 2) The owner takes all forms of digital payments from Venmo to Apple Pay. For someone like me, who doesn't carry cash, this is awesome! 3) I would say, this is a must eat Hoboken street food.

Saka has a solid offer of Any 3 Rolls for ~$20. Their selection of rolls is more limiting than other places; would love if they had yellowtail or scallop as options at lunch. Nonetheless, the rolls I got were solid! The fish was fresh and the portion was great, the rice layer wasn't thick at all which is a big factor for me, and to my surprise, it came with both a miso soup & salad. The miso soup was pretty flavorful compared to others I've had and the salad came with a sesame dressing that was so refreshing with the crisp salad. I should've kept my order at that as the Crispy Spicy Salmon wasn't worth it. The crispy rice was slightly too hard/over-fried and the portion of spicy salmon was so tiny. The rice layer should be fully topped with salmon, unlike what they gave. It didn't taste half bad but I'd probably skip it next time. If you order for delivery, their insulated packaging is great for transport and temperature control. Solid try!

We chose the salmon avocado, spicy tuna, and Philadelphia rolls. And we got it with the salad. The salad dressing was amazing, definitely up there with the best of the Japanese salad dressings. The rolls were great as well. Very stuffed with not too much rice and tasted very fresh. The spicy tuna maki was a little spicy for me but not anything crazy. We also got crab rangoons and those were also fantastic. Also very stuffed and sweet. And the sauce they came with was a little spicy, very good too. Overall, very impressed with our first dine out in Hoboken. We will definitely be back.

Saku is attractive in a strange Two-Face kind of way, where one room is all pink sakura lightness…read moreand being, while the other room (where we were seated) is all dark, depressing velvet underground melancholy. The menu kind of reflects this struggle too, as it can't seem to decide if it wants to offer more traditional Japanese sushi-ya fare or something more innovative. As a result, we kind of wound up with the middling middle with our choice of 4 specialty rolls: 1) Saku: Probably the best and most traditional of our rolls with salmon and avocado inside, and ponzu, chives and crispy shallots on the outside. 2) Lobster: Not enough lobster salad inside to justify the overuse of miso-yuzu mayo, and just a whole ton of filler nonsense going on outside wrapped in pink soy paper. 3) Drop It Like Its Hot: Not spicy enough to justify the cute name. This should've been an easy slam dunk in flavor, but everything felt kind of bland and flat. Maybe due to the lack of nori. 4) Crunch Drunk Love: Lots of fish, but again, not enough flavor. We also got the Edamame with Spicy Miso Butter, which was just OK--the butter was weirdly sour. I wouldn't order it again. In fact, I....wouldn't really order anything here again.

I'm not the biggest fan of cream cheese in my roll so my least favorite was the Philadelphia roll. I ordered a peach iced tea. The service was great and attentive. When we walked in without a reservation we were able to be seated right away as it wasn't busy. As we started to eat our rolls, the restaurant did get busier with time. Dates and families coming in for their dinner. I have to be honest and say the shrimp shumai wasn't all that special but overall the presentation of the sushi and taste was pretty good. The shumai tasted okay to me, I have had better elsewhere and they looked different. They were tiny. All in all, I would come back and recommend this restaurant to sushi lovers. 10/10 restaurant recommendation.
