They carry a pretty wide variety of Asian flavor-inspired breads, pastries, cakes and cookies, including buns and some more dessert-type items. I checked out Progreso for an event this past weekend and ended up buying a few items to go: - matcha marble sponge cake $4.49: was fluffy, light and moist, good flavor of matcha and a light schmear of whipped cream in the middle. Would get this again! - taro cream puff $6.50: this was taro paste (? not sure if that's fully accurate though it felt more consistency of soft whipped taro than a traditional pastry cream) with whipped cream on top sandwiched by what I believe was choux pastry with craquelin. I think maybe because the this was sitting chilled/refrigerated for a while the top craquelin layer wasn't quite crispy anymore, though it looked nice. Personally it was a bit too much regular whipped cream, would've preferred more of a taro pastry cream. - mango pudding with fresh mango $6.50 mango flavor in the pudding was light though it was a nice tease of flavor. The texture was on the firmer side for puddings. The mangos were a bit oxidized though tasted ok, maybe glaze them or do something to maintain the color? Since this is a pretty new spot hope they could make a few improvements and blow it out of the park! I appreciated the owners' enthusiasm for sharing about their shop.

I got the strawberry dragon it was absolutely fantastic and so so delicious. I have recently started getting into matcha and the drink had matcha with like strawberries in it. My first ever experience with a matcha strawberry combination. I'm definitely going to go to progreso cafe very soon again. I'm definitely going to try out more of the pastries. On top of pastries looking so good I'm also very curious about the meat buns. They have so many choices in progreso and I can't wait to try everything. I think I'm just used to sweeter, overly sugary, "fake" matcha from places like Blank Street, Dunkin', and similar chains. The matcha itself was good quality, but it didn't really taste like much to me--it was very mid/bland. The strawberry was made with real strawberries, which I appreciated, but the pieces kept getting stuck in the straw, so I wasn't really able to mix them into the matcha. I paid $8 for the matcha plus a $2 tip, so $10 total. I'd definitely come back and try something else next time, though. The service was quick and friendly, and since all the tables were occupied, they seated me at the bar where I got to watch my matcha being made, which was a nice touch.

There are some other restaurants nearby that will have boba on the menu but I consider that separate from a bubble tea shop whose main or only product is the tea. There is some minimal seating (bar stools) but it's largely a to-go place. The ambiance is clean lines, black walls, white tile etc. Patrons leave napkins/straw wrappers, things can be a bit sticky, and it doesn't seem like this is attended to all that quickly. And it's not like it's busy - every time I go in there it's empty of people. There are 2 self service kiosks to order at and thus you're not really greeted or acknowledged when you enter, which is mostly in line with the nyc norm. The tea itself I think is just okay. It is a bit pricey; everything will run you close to $8 before any substitutions or add-ins. They have some fun flavors like the raspberry hojicha. I do think that the standard bubble milk tea that they offer highlights that the tea itself isn't great quality - it's either oversteeped or just not great quality tea being used. Still, it's better than not having boba in the area.
