Ok, I'm on here doing my annual-ish nerd out about my arborist (Brennon at Full Canopy Tree Care.)…read more The front pic shows this huge random branch that decided to break yesterday and dangle threateningly by a thread. I texted Brennon and he had his peeps come get it down from there at no charge. It's like it never happened. I decided while I was composing this post to also include progress on my back yard. A couple years ago Brennon cut down that broken Bradford Pear on the far right, while I was on vacation. (I'm so grateful to not be present for the process of taking down another elderly tree.) The two little volunteer trees in the boxes are ones Brennon helped me pick out to replace the bigger tree. I get hundreds of volunteers back there every year, and Brennon has taught me what to look for when selecting ones to keep or cut down. So, for example, in this picture there's a redbud that wont mind being an understory tree to that oak, which will work out well because of the direction of light for most of the day. And that oak has a perfectly straight single trunk with branches that radiate nicely and don't cross each other. When it overtakes the redbud enough they wont interfere with each other. The reason they got so big in two years is because Brennon has been fertilizing them with this liquid he formulates. They come by to do the burr oak they planted in the front yard, and they add on the babies for free. I think I've have 5 baby trees we're working on growing up to replace 4 old trees. I've been working with them for almost five years. They always find a few ways each year to show they appreciate me. It's really nice.

Not only that, he takes time to make recommendations based on future projects he's not yet contracted for. He first installed our 16x16 foot cedar plank pressure treated deck, paying close attention to how this deck would be part of a larger project. He made recommendations such as installing shorter steps on one side to make a natural walkway from opposite sides, to designing the stairs that lead to our firepit area in such a way that it's GORGEOUS. He heard my dream of having a sunket firepit and brought it to life! He made recommendations on size according to budget and even hunted down the exact type and color gravel we envisioned. The nature of our Project involved a number of different details including patio deck design, metal work (for our steel railing), landscape modifications including modifying our existing gutter downspout and modifying our ground cover rocks, metal boarder. It was a challenge to find a one stop shop, but Roberto's team stepped up to that challenge and did a great job. The scope of the Project: 1) increase our patio deck stairs' landing area by 35% making it safer for those exiting and entering our rear patio. 2) demolition of the existing cedar deck materials to be replaced by Trex composite requiring little to no maintenance moving forward 3) frame out the new patio landing and stairs, adding 2 additional stairs to make the overall patio stairs solution safer 4) remove and redirect our gutter downspout so that it was not in the way of the newly installed patio stairs 5) modify the steel railing on the old stairs to accommodate the larger footprint of the new landing and additional stairs They say a picture is worth a 1000 words, so I'll let the following "before" and "after" pictures speak for themselves
