My work did a team building event here last week. I have to be honest here, the idea of being stuck in a small room together with 7 of my coworkers didn't exactly sound like a great time to me. However, it turned out great!!! We did the "Captains Quarters" room & escaped within the last few minutes. It turned out to be the best "team building" that I have ever done. We all worked together finding the clues. To date, this is the third escape room that I have done at three different places. I found this one to be the easiest, yet it was still challenging. This was the first place that I've gone to that gave us unlimited amount of clues (you can only use 2 clues if you want to be on the winners board). We would not have escaped had we not been able to use FIVE (yes, FIVE!) clues, but i think it made everyone happier to actually be able to say we escaped from the room. This was also the first place that i have gone to that only used a single room. I like having two rooms to work out of, but I am assuming that maybe it was just the theme room that we chose. The parrot was an excellent (and funny) touch and we all really enjoyed the picture wall at the end. The guy who handled our room was friendly, funny and seemed to really know what he was doing. I would definitely do this again. It was a fun time and my co workers all love it too! read more

We did the Initiation yesterday and while the gal who checked us in was enthusiastic and helpful, the gal who checked us out didn't seem to care about our feedback. It's frustrating when you're in an Escape Room and you have solved the puzzle, but the pieces don't align (symbols don't match so you start guessing). The Initiation is limited to just a one room experience and has no logical sequence to the puzzles as you move through whereas others were more clear so you are able to narrow your focus. read more

I feel the need to update this due to recent experiences; We were contacted after our first visit and invited to come back and experience a different room. We took them up on their offer, but went hesitantly because it's easy to step up your game when you know that a disappointed guest is coming back. However.... Our adventure was so much better the second time that we went back again for a third room... and a fourth... and.... well, the only one we haven't done yet is their new Naughty Or Heist. Had a blast here today! We're going to be wishing my sister's friend goodbye on Tuesday and this was such a perfect activity to do all together. The facility was really clean and I'm happy to see that they're taking COVID precautions seriously. I recommend booking in advance and filling out the waviers ahead of time for a more streamed experience! We went to Beat the Room on 5/23/2020 and they do an amazing job of ensuring the safety of their staff and their customers. Both the lobby and the rooms were well sanitized and we felt comfortable the whole time. Everyone is required to wear a mask and have their temperatures taken so you can feel comfortable being here! The rooms are also absolutely amazing and we had a blast doing the pirate and chasm themed rooms. This is a great way to get out with your family while still feeling safe! read more

We have done just about all the rooms at this location, tonight we attempted Bitten but fell short at the end. Overall, I feel like I wish some of the puzzles in a few rooms were just a little more intuitive but there is a lot of attention to detail that goes into each room. My five star review today is due to the fact that our game master, who's name I didn't catch (young girl, wearing long black skirt) must have overheard us chatting about it being my husbands birthday. She snuck in at some point and left a Happy Birthday note within one of the clues and I thought it was a really great experience. Unfortunately we didn't snap a picture tonight, obviously you can't take photos in the rooms and we don't really do the "after" pictures. read more

My friends and I were looking for something to do after eating and decided to do an impromptu escape room. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find Beat The Room (BTR) which was the only one in the area that was open on a Wednesday night. We called BTR and they took us in within like a 20 minute notice. BTR is located in Rocklin and they have a decent size parking so we had no issues with parking. Plus, it looked like the businesses that were next to BTR were closed since all the buildings in the area were pitch black. As someone who had never been to BTR and was depending on Siri to tell me where to go while driving at night, it would have helped if BTR had their sign lit up on the outside. I could have easily drove pass by the place and missed it. The inside of BTR was very clean and the waiting area was huge! They had a waiting area for each of the games that they had there so that was really nice. My group decided to play The Initiation game. The cost of this game was $29 per person which is fairly good compared to the cost of most escape rooms which is $35 per person. The games are not private which means if you do not book a private room or buy all of the tickets for a certain time slot then that opens you up for having to work with strangers who buy tickets for the same time as you. The back of BTR has bathrooms and lockers to store your personal belongings. They allow you to have your cell phones on you to use the flashlight, but obviously not to Google for answers or phone a friend for help. The game master explained all of the rules of the escape room and then allowed us into the actual room. For this particular game, we were allowed to ask for 3 clues if we got stuck. However, if we did not care about making it onto the leader board then we could ask for unlimited amount of clues. The Initiation game specifically is a linear game which means that your group has to do things in an exact order to solve the puzzles. It's very systemic and logical. Normally this means that your whole group is all working on a single puzzle and attempting to solve it in order to advance onto the next puzzle which means that if you are working in a large group, some members may be left standing around with nothing to do. My group and I were a party of 5, but I don't think we were left with nothing to do. Even though it was a linear game, we were able to split into pairs and look around the room for clues and etc. In the end, my team was so close to escaping, but we did not! Ugh!! It was a good effort though. At the end, we went to the back area to take a group picture with signs and props! The only reason why I am giving BTR 4 out of 5 stars is the fact that I have done many escape rooms before and this one did not impress me as much when it came to the actual escape room, props, setting, and etc. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but some of the ones that I have been to have been extremely immersive and crazy impressive that I am shocked by how much time was probably spent building just a single game alone. The staff was nice and my group had a good time. I would definitely come back and check out the other games here if I was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. read more

My daughter, 2 granddaughters and I did the Outer Space room. We had a lot of fun solving the puzzles in the escape room. Although we needed 2 hints and did not make the leaderboard, we did escape in 48 minutes and 26 seconds. I recommend this for anyone who enjoys a "group think" with several puzzles that need to be solved in the right order. read more

The Beat the Room crew was amazing in Vacaville! I appreciated their flexibility and assistance in planning my daughter's 17th birthday. I originally booked two different rooms, but with 14 kids, they recommended we do the Baker Street Red and white rooms that could run concurrently so they could all end at the same time or race each other. Not worth the money - for nearly $50 per person I had higher hopes for this experience. I had been to the 221b room here before, which was fun and I was eager to introduce my two friends to the Chasm room. I absolutely love escape rooms, but this fell short. The immersion aspect was great, and you could tell they put a lot of detail in the scenery. Multiple spaces to open and there was enough for three of us to do. Sound effects and dark lighting added to the fun. The game master was nice and she seemed to enjoy introducing the room. However...some of the puzzles themselves simply did not make realistic sense. The puzzle in the first room with the shovels and tags took half of our hour alone to parse through, and even with the hints we were given there was no Eureka moment once the puzzle was finally solved because it was completely out of place and not intuitive. Plus, you could tell the game master was irritated, but she just kept repeating the same hint and that clearly wasn't helping us. One of the puzzles in the elevator straight up didn't work and the staff member had to bring us the pieces, which ate up more of our time. We figured out most of the other puzzles pretty quickly, but got held up in the next room because even though we solved the clue and shouted out the word, the game master wouldn't count it because "You shouted it at the hallway, not at the lanterns themselves." We were standing there right next to the lanterns because they were hung in the narrow hallway, so what, I'm supposed to turn and shout the same word at each LED candle like an idiot? That's not a puzzle, and you come to an escape room for logical puzzles that are strung together and actually make sense with the theme in the room. We clearly solved it but stupid things like that ate up our time, stopping us from finishing and frustrating our group. It just felt like the game master was nitpicking, talked to us like we were dumb when we finally asked for a hint, and didn't allow us even a few extra minutes despite the hiccups that happened while we were in the room. I'm all for difficult puzzles, but they should be somewhat fitting for the room theme you're in. I guarantee you miners would not have such a convoluted system for clocking into their daily shift lol! :) If you're going to spend money, go to Enchambered where you get both immersion quality as well as streamlined, creative puzzles. read more

Came here as a group of four Saturday evening. We booked "The Lab". We entered the premises and sat for about 10 minutes before anyone even greeted us. When someone finally came out it was a tall skinny guy with glasses with absolutely no personality. He went over "Rules" and just seemed very disinterested in his job. We then entered our room straight from the waiting area and were provided no real direction. The walkie talkie used for asking for clues was staticky and we couldn't understand the person giving clues (when they actually responded to a clue request). I have been to dozens of escape rooms over the last two years and this one was by the worst one I have ever been apart of. Once we figured out the clues and started moving along it was too late. When you correctly solved a clue and a box would open or something that was supposed to open did open you wouldn't know because there was no sound or alert letting you know. $190 for four people was not worth it. RED DOOR escape rooms are 100x better. We definitely will not be back. read more

A group of friends and I did a room here and 3 out of 4 of us had never done an escape room. Jeremy was incredibly helpful and had an energy that was a big part of why we had such a good time. The room itself was a lot of fun. We did 221 B Baker St. (which we were told is the second hardest here, you might want to keep that in mind if you're inexperienced). Without giving any details about the room, I will say that the set design was immersive and every puzzle was challenging and rewarding. After we solved the room, Jeremy was willing to explain how things worked and celebrated with us. Our group is really excited to come back and do another room here. read more

This was our 4th time at Beat the Room, 4th room. The first 3 times were definite 5 stars experiences, this time however I can't give them 5. The room had fun, challenging puzzles but was definitely not friendly for "color challenged" people, at all. Not nearly as much fun for the color-blinded ones in our group. Even those of us who are not color challenged had a difficult time seeing the difference in colors and some symbols had been worn off making it a "guessing" answers instead of clear, defined one like in the previous rooms. We still had fun and will probably go back to try another room in the future, hopefully the puzzles won't be so worn down next time. read more

Awesome experience! truly a great team building activity! We chose baker room a Sherlock Holmes style escape room and boy was it fun. I took a group of new sales hires and it was so fun to watch everyone work together. It actually brought out the best in everyone's skill sets and team-building abilities. The diversity of clues and ways to solve the puzzles really enhanced the experience. My group had never done an escape room and I have only done it once before at another location. My initial feedback is that upon entering, the place is clean and well lit and very well organized. I like the fact that they have lockers for you to place purses coats etc. although they are fairly tiny it's nice to not have the added items in the room. My only feedback based on my previous escape room experience is this. I would prefer to see them allow for three clies instead of two. I also hated the fact that you had to call on the phone and only one person could talk to and hear the cruise being provided. In my previous experience when you called in for a clue the crew was announced on the loudspeaker so that everyone in the room could hear. The phone was a little muffled and difficult to hear and often required asking for repetition and calling the info out to Your teammates. What we found is this are up additional time. If everyone had heard the clue at the same time over the loudspeaker it would have assisted with figuring things out faster. All in all a fun event and definitely worth coming back and trying another room again. read more

We did New York Noir yesterday. The decor was fabulous. Unfortunately, the room was not reset correctly, and we received two calls during our time to put clues in places and close doors. It ruined the flow of our experience and we left really disappointed. Also, it would have been nice to know the room ends with you having to read newspaper articles and sort through papers to solve a puzzle. We were not up for sitting down and reading and would have chosen an alternative room. We actually just walked out once we had finished the escape room part. All were disappointed. read more
