The outside roof top sitting area was delightful to enjoy a take out lunch or dinner. The hotel staff were absolutely helpful and friendly. One of the best part of our Chicago trip was meeting Wallace, the guest service manager. He was absolutely welcoming to me and my guests right from the start when we were waiting to check in. Wallace provided recommendations of places to eat, best ways of transportation or walking to get places. His positive energy was so infectious that we were so pumped to experience the ChiTown city vibe. Thank you for the laughs, Wallace!! The location of the hotel was fantastic! Lots of great restaurants to walk to. The hotel is very close to bus stops and train stations for public transportation. Also, just a few blocks from the Chicago riverwalk. Highly recommended! The neighborhood is safe and comfortable to walk through. I would book here again next time I plan a trip to Chicago. I will be back!

Total was $660 with tax etc. Look, it doesn't pass the eye test. It's in a fine area downtown (nothing too shady) but the lobby is meh and the set up is weird, you walk outside to take an elevator up to the rooms. The elevator itself was super sketch and had trash all inside it. The floor layout is very motel like, creaky lights and dusty, so I was scared to finally get to my room. Lo and behold, the room was fine. Cons: TV is unwatchable, it's horizontal to the bed. No mini fridge (never seen a hotel with no mini fridge). Above all else, the room was clean, bathroom clean, and bed was comfy. Hotel was quiet too, but omg the AC unit is literally from the 1980s and so loud I had to turn it off in the AM. Front desk guy was nice and they give you as many (warm) water bottles you want. Overall, fine for a 2 night stay but next time I'm in town prob not staying here. *Update: Smoke alarm detector broke and started beeping at 3am and wouldn't stop. No help beyond "take battery out" which did not stop it. 1 star now and will be asking for a refund tomorrow.

This hotel was located within the loop near the river, shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel rooms are basic and small. We were fortunate to get an upgraded room with two queen beds and an amazing view out the window of the city. The window was large and clean. The beds were comfy with ample pillows. Four pillows were provided. The hotel set up is a bit awkward. Room is best for one person as lacks storage for large luggage. Plus there is not a defined bathroom. The shower is within the bedroom. Fortunately the shower was frosted but you walk right into the bedroom so you must be comfortable with those you stay with. Plus the room does really have a deck and chair to work. The desk is a fold down from the wall. The chair for the deck is located on the wall and not really suitable for long term working on sitting as does not have a back to it. The best thing above this hotel are the staff. The front desk staff are super friendly and accommodating and aim to please. The bartender was super friendly and attentive as well. Lastly parking is not available right at the hotel. You have to walk two blocks. Plus parking cost 59 dollars and that's the discounted rate. Also not really a suitable place to drop luggage off. If you pull up to the front door, you are blocking traffic. Base on price of 400 dollars the night we stayed, I would say it's not worth the stay. Maybe it's worth 200 or less for Chicago.

Ubers often stop across the street, so…read moreyou end up jaywalking despite there being parking/loading right outside the hotel -- be mindful about your pickup location. Staff is super friendly. One employee has quite the aggressive "good morning" -- you can tell they are trained to greet each and every guest promptly and intentionally. There isn't really a traditional lobby. There are some weak benches on one side and some ottomans on the other. The door is locked after certain evening hours and you'll need your key to get in. The desk people will watch you fumble for your key vs. just letting you in, which I actually like for safety. Our 2x queen room (537) had a view of... the roof next door and some high-rise apartments blocks away. We would have otherwise had a lake view if those didn't exist. The room seems like it was renovated a few years back. The carpet seemed fine, but if you looked in the corners you'd see the dust and grime. The beds were okay, but they have euro pillows which were too soft and not great. The bathroom felt outdated. It's like they renovated the rooms but skipped the bathrooms. The bathtub/shower combo had two shower heads for some reason. The tub was too shallow even for me (and I'm quite short), and I didn't use it as a bathtub -- it just didn't feel clean enough for that. Not dirty, but not pristine either. The soap/shampoo was TUMI... like the luggage brand, same logo and everything. Hard pass. Towels were average, like any 3-star hotel. They did have a light-up beauty mirror, which was nice. I asked for slippers and robes. The slippers were mega cheap, and the robes arrived without belts. It also took over an hour and two calls to get them delivered. Continental breakfast and the wine reception happen in a room on the 6th floor with no windows -- very teacher conference room energy. Nothing special about the breakfast, just standard offerings. Wine reception had stale Chex mix in little bags and bland popcorn that tasted like styrofoam. Cheap wine, no sparkling options. It's not a loud party hotel, so I'm thankful for that. Probably wouldn't book again -- there are so many options in Chicago -- but it worked as the cheapest decent place for two nights with two friends sharing.

The staff at check-in was wonderful and got me squared away very quickly, and offered a great couple of options for dinner in the area. When I got to the room, everything seemed nice and clean. I put my stuff down and unpacked a bit. As I unpacked I did notice that the room had some small things in disrepair, like the sink's caulking was separating a bit. Nothing worth complaining over, but it did make things feel a bit more dingy. Aside from that, pretty run of the mill hotel amenities. Housekeeping refreshed everything daily, which is getting more rare I've found. The shower could have used better water pressure and a bit higher of a temperature, which is something most hotels are guilty of. The biggest complaint is that for there being emergency services right outside, this hotel should have invested in better sound proofing. I was thankfully only woken up once, but I heard it through the waking hours a few times.

I don't know if there are rooms on the opposite side that are quieter but my room was on the 11th floor facing the station and it was just unbearable. The first night, fire trucks went out at least 12 times between 10pm and 6am making it impossible to sleep. That said, the hotel was otherwise pretty decent. Service at the front desk was good, the lobby is beautiful, the room was clean, and hot water came quickly. For some reason, my room was missing a microwave, though it didn't affect me. The bed was okay but gave me some back pain. Breakfast was weak. Compared to another Hampton I stayed in San Jose, it lacked fruits, bakery items, and drink options. There were some basic cereals, a waffle maker, bananas, and bagels. On the second day, breakfast included eggs mixed with ham and pork sausages which was annoying as someone who doesn't eat pork. The TV remote also needed batteries which should have been replaced before the room was assigned. Overall, it was decent. Aside from the fire station, the location is prime. There are tons of restaurants and bars nearby, and my work was just a five minute walk. But that fire station...just can't get past it!

Given its location in a busy area, there is no complimentary parking, and rates are steep at $60/night for self-parking and $75/night for valet parking. There is also a restaurant attached to the lobby, Ema, which provides a pretty decent free continental breakfast. The main detractor from our stay were issues with the elevators - there are only 2 in the lobby of a very tall building with a lot of floors, and only 1 was functioning at the time. That one elevator is both slow and small, so folks going downstairs in the morning had to wait a significant amount of time for the elevator to arrive, only to find that it was packed and that they needed to wait for the next round - on repeat. The stairs were also, funnily enough, not immediately next to the elevators. Choosing that option was feasible for traveling a few floors down, but unfortunately not with large suitcases upon check-out. The other issue was with the wifi. While connected, my laptop was still unable to smoothly do light work (eg, basic internet searches, use of the Google Workplace), with an excruciating amount of time between each site or change loading. In addition, for several members of our group across multiple cellular networks, mobile data was fairly weak in the building (likely due to the tall skyscrapers in the area), leaving us unable to switch to a personal hotspot as an alternative.

The location is pretty good. There is a lot in walking distance to see and do so I like that. I noticed in one of our rooms that wall paper in the bathroom was peeling. The toilet paper holder was broken. One towel had a small stain. But the final straw was the roach on the wall next to the elevator on the restaurant floor. Unfortunately we saw him after breakfast.
