The Kinzie Hotel was perfect for my friends and me. The staff are welcoming and very helpful- always greeting us when we came in. The location is amazing, it is a short walk away from everything you need from restaurants, bars, and different stores. We got lucky and were right across the breakfast hall that has a microwave you can use 24/7. Lastly, the gym is clean and diverse, but more importantly, it has cold water and the vending machine full of energy drinks. Which are much needed when you're walking around Chicago! Pretty central area. Fairly safe. But it's dead at night. Ubers often stop across the street, so you end up jaywalking despite there being parking/loading right outside the hotel -- be mindful about your pickup location. Staff is super friendly. One employee has quite the aggressive "good morning" -- you can tell they are trained to greet each and every guest promptly and intentionally. There isn't really a traditional lobby. There are some weak benches on one side and some ottomans on the other. The door is locked after certain evening hours and you'll need your key to get in. The desk people will watch you fumble for your key vs. just letting you in, which I actually like for safety. Our 2x queen room (537) had a view of... the roof next door and some high-rise apartments blocks away. We would have otherwise had a lake view if those didn't exist. The room seems like it was renovated a few years back. The carpet seemed fine, but if you looked in the corners you'd see the dust and grime. The beds were okay, but they have euro pillows which were too soft and not great. The bathroom felt outdated. It's like they renovated the rooms but skipped the bathrooms. The bathtub/shower combo had two shower heads for some reason. The tub was too shallow even for me (and I'm quite short), and I didn't use it as a bathtub -- it just didn't feel clean enough for that. Not dirty, but not pristine either. The soap/shampoo was TUMI... like the luggage brand, same logo and everything. Hard pass. Towels were average, like any 3-star hotel. They did have a light-up beauty mirror, which was nice. I asked for slippers and robes. The slippers were mega cheap, and the robes arrived without belts. It also took over an hour and two calls to get them delivered. Continental breakfast and the wine reception happen in a room on the 6th floor with no windows -- very teacher conference room energy. Nothing special about the breakfast, just standard offerings. Wine reception had stale Chex mix in little bags and bland popcorn that tasted like styrofoam. Cheap wine, no sparkling options. It's not a loud party hotel, so I'm thankful for that. Probably wouldn't book again -- there are so many options in Chicago -- but it worked as the cheapest decent place for two nights with two friends sharing. read more

We spent four nights at the Kinzie hotel. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. It is in a convenient location - walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and several of the city sites. That is very convenient. If you have your car, there is a parking garage right across the street that is affordable with In-N-Out privileges. The hotel is clean and modern and our room had decent views. The lobby is fresh and bright. And the lounge is nice. There is an included continental breakfast, and free beverages from 5 to 7 PM. I rarely drink alcohol, but I know a lot of people were enjoying it. The reason that I did not give five stars is very simply I believe the restroom needed better lighting, and our bed was at a weird angle. Also, I think they could add some artwork to the lobby and the hallway. But that's just me nitpicking. Oh yeah... And they only offer Pepsi products, not Coca-Cola. :-) Overall, it was clean, comfortable, located in a very convenient location and an enjoyable stay. We will probably be back. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the unexpected $150 "deep cleaning" fee charged after my stay. The room was already very expensive, and we left it in very good condition. There was no smoking, no spills, no excessive mess, and nothing that would reasonably justify a charge of this amount. The fee was applied solely due to confetti, yet at no point during booking, in my reservation confirmation, or in any posted policy was confetti mentioned as prohibited or subject to an additional charge. Had this been clearly disclosed upfront, I would have made a different decision. I fully respect hotel staff and understand standard cleaning expectations, which is why this charge feels unjustified and punitive rather than transparent or fair. Charging guests after the fact for policies that are not clearly communicated is unacceptable--especially when the room was otherwise left in excellent condition. Because of this experience, I will no longer recommend this hotel to others. What should have been a positive stay was overshadowed by a surprise fee with no prior disclosure. I hope management reviews this charge and improves transparency for future guests. read more

The location is great as it's very walkable to shopping, restaurants and plenty of local attractions. The service was excellent! Very friendly staff and we were able to check in early. The free happy hour drinks were greatly appreciated...which includes two drinks per person, of draft beer or wine. The room was spacious, however there were the motorized bathroom fan was a bit noisy especially at night, and we were able to hear the other room when they were opening their blinds in the morning. The toilet also had a brown stain that was dripping from the tank into the bowl. We also could hear the garbage truck doing their early morning pickups which woke us up both mornings. read more

Wow this hotel surprised me! I originally booked a different hotel then switched to this one to save some money. I am so happy I did! This hotel is located a block from the riverwalk and very close to the Metra train lines. When I arrived I did not think much of the lobby because it was basically very bland with a giant horse statue above the door. However my mind changed when I got to the room. The room is extremely beautiful and very well organized. Truly remarkable how the thought of every little detail. Now I normally am not a fan of resort fees. However, this hotel has a FREE happy hour every night. It also has a free breakfast too. Overall this is a fantastic hotel that is centrally located in the city of Chicago. The Kinzie is a nice hotel downtown within walking distance of a whole host of amazing restaurants. It feels new, fresh, well-maintained, and tastefully decorated. The staff are friendly and very customer service oriented. We were allowed early checkin, which was very much appreciated. Included breakfast is a plus as well. Minor complaint: Parking is valet only and $75/night and it takes about 15+ minutes to get your vehicle returned for use. Major complaint: If you don't go to bed before 1am, this won't be an issue for you. However, if you're an early to bed sort (like we are), the hotel is not well insulated against street noise. The two nights we were here (Friday and Saturday), we were awakened multiple times between 10pm and 1am by street noise...vehicles with blaring radios, honking, and emergency sirens. The street noise is a deal killer for us, but if you're going to be out enjoying the night life until late I'd recommend the hotel based on its many other fine features. read more

My stay at the Kinzie definitely wasn't a four, but it wasn't a three. Solid three and a half. I booked through a third party to use travel credits, so my stay was paid for upfront. I don't usually do that, but the credits were due to expire soon. Upon check-in I was told that there was a "resort fee" of $27/day additional. Not a huge deal, but adds up if you are staying for more than a night or two. The Kinzie does offer free happy hour (wine and possibly beer, popcorn) from 5-7 and breakfast, so we made sure to get our $27 worth, but it does not offer other amenities like a pool or room service (the website said it does, but after asking the front desk they said it does not). They also charge a $500 deposit, which again isn't unreasonable, however there was a huge dent in the credenza and a stain on the headboard (didn't look dirty, just stained), which you would think they would be repairing with the money they are taking for the deposit. Overall, a pretty good location and does have some decent perks (breakfast even had Jimmy Dean sandwiches for takeaway, which, even though I didn't eat was a cool option). Just don't expect anything amazing! read more

This hotel is total BS. I called after an issue with my priceline app. The payment was taken off my card but no reservation showed up. I wanted five minutes and restarted the priceline app multiple time and no reservation. I went ahead and booked another hotel and that reservation went through AND the previous one now showed up as well. Upon calling and speaking to the front desk they are not allowing me to cancel the reservation or refund me because the reservation is a today check in.. EVEN THOUGH iT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE APP AND NOT MY FAULT. I can honestly say I WAS ROBBED BY THE KINZIE HOTEL AND PLAN. A nice hotel in a good area to walk to many attractions nearby. We stayed a night at this hotel since we had tickets to a local show. We were happy with the overall service and accommodations. They have a happy hour 5-7 and you're allowed to get two drinks and they have popcorn and pretzel snacks. They offer beer (taps: a local lager and miler liter) and wines. The hotel bed was comfortable and overall decent. Service was friendly and helpful. They offer a continental breakfast which was average. We enjoyed the one night stay and would check them out again. This place is so good, I found a really good deal and it would have been a great deal at twice the price. Every worker there would greet you with a smile and a goodmorning of goodnight depending on time of the day. This place is super close to the river and the red line train (easy way to get to Wrigley). The brekfast was ok for a free brekfast. The afternoon happy hour was pretty good, beer, wine, and small snacks like nuts and popcorn. Only thing I didn't like was both days I was there we were woken by the dumpsters being picked up by a garbage truck (not the hotels fault, just a heads up). Rooms are huge, especially for downtown Chicago. Multiple restaurants near by that offer late night food. If you're brave enough (or have enough liquid courage) Billy Goat Tavern is like a 5 minute walk. All in all great place to stay, would definitely recommend. read more

My stay at Kinzie was okay. I'm not thoroughly impressed in the slightest, but I'm not upset really either. Location was prime. It's walking distance from so many attractions. The room was clean enough, but I did see spider webs on the ceiling and a lot of scuff marks on the wall. No buggies were found, so I am very happy with that. Having a fridge was nice to chill our beverages. They ran out of slippers when we requested items, so that was disappointing. For a 4 star hotel, the amenities had to be requested such as tooth brushes. We did go to the complimentary happy hour once during the 3 days we were there and we enjoyed it along with the pub mix snacks that we were given... On Saturday night though, it was loud. From the 3rd floor, the outside partying of Chicago kept us up into the early hours. I think I'd like to try another hotel when I visit Chicago again. Not that Kinzie was bad, but it was just underwhelming for me. read more

The Kinzie Hotel was fine for a boutique hotel of this nature. It's pretty "light" on services and guest amenities: such as the breakfast and any snacking offerings. The breakfast was located each morning inside one of the hotel's interior rooms without any windows. The snack and drink offerings consisted of a tiny rack of chips behind the front desk. The hotel lobby is quite small and somewhat cramped. I really liked the room I reserved. It was a 1-bedroom suite--and, as far as hotels go, enormous!! The building was also pretty solid In the sense that it isolated street noise to a large degree. My room was only on the third floor and at first I was nervous that the street noise would be an issue. Happily, it never became an issue. If you are looking for a smaller, boutique hotel with an excellent River North location, I would definitely keep the Kinzie Hotel on your short list. However, don't expect much in the way of frills or amenities. read more

Priceline purchase over a $50 difference. A resort fee is added at hotel of approximately $13. I arrived later in the evening. I told the manager when I needed to be at the airport and late checkout was offered. I was told about the breakfast, manager's reception (I missed it but was telling me in case I stayed another night. ) The room was beautiful. Loved the windows. Enough outlets. Had a cold refrigerator. Comfortable bed. The room had everything and more. Gym ok. The only thing that would make this is a 5 for me would be the hot breakfast. I debated between this and the Embassy. The Embassy offers a hot and made to order service for less. Great location. Near EL. DARRIN was a star of this location. Continental breakfast was satisfying, and they responded quickly to our single service request. Housekeeping was flexible, came back later if we hadn't left the room yet. I've been so excited to get back to the Kinzie after an amazing stay a few years ago, but am sad to report the extras that made me fall in love are gone. The Kinzie is still a great location and perfectly nice, but things are a bit worse for west - peeling paint/wallpaper, two towels, one bar of soap (we opted to use it for the sink and make do with shampoo as body wash until we could snag a second bar from the front desk), a faucet not fully attached to the sink, and a non-functioning TV. The rotating lobby drinks are no more, happy hour is now beer/wine and snack mix instead of full bar and hot apps, and the upscale continental breakfast on every floor is now your standard Sysco boxed muffins/waffle iron/cold cereal spread in the lounge. The people are still a highlight - everyone was friendly and helpful which is always appreciated. I snagged a decent deal on Priceline so it was fine, but I'd have been really disappointed if I had paid full price. read more

I had the pleasure of staying here on a visit to Chicago and have nothing but nice things to say about the place. Not often do you look up hotels and see 4-5 star reviews across all review sites. On top of that, I was able to snag a bunch of points on Southwest by booking through them. Win win situation for me! Considering the central location and close proximity to almost all the touristy spots and restaurants, the price was super reasonable as well. We had a late check in and it was a quick process. I simply asked for a high room with a view and they were happy to oblige. Customer service was above and beyond the entire time. This place definitely screams boutique hotels with all its modern touches and tasteful design. There is a complimentary continental style breakfast daily as well as a complimentary happy hour complete with adult beverages and snacks. The rooms were nice and spacious with plenty of outlets for all your devices. There was also a smart TV so we were able to watch Netflix. Unlike most hotels, the water stayed nice and warm throughout all my showers, and I love to take alot of showers! There is also a safe in the room to leave all your valuables as your go sight seeing. We just returned from a 3-night trip to Chicago and were very happy with the Kenzie Hotel. We arrived around 10:30 AM to drop off our bags and head out to see the town, but we were pleasantly surprised that we were allowed to check in early. Our stay included breakfast and two drinks per person at happy hour. The room was very clean and had a great view. The bed was firm and extremely comfortable. The location was within walking distance of the river and the Magnificent Mile, and it was right in the middle of lavish nightlife and a fantastic restaurant scene. At just over $100 per night, the price was wonderful for this caliber of hotel. I would have gladly paid twice the rate. read more

I stayed at the Kinzie hotel this past weekend with 3 girlfriends for a girls weekend. We stayed in a 2 queen room on the 4th floor. The room was nothing special but was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious enough for the 4 of us to get ready in to go out and the double shower head was a really nice touch! There was only one robe in the closet which was a bit disappointing for the number of beds (there goes an opportunity for an Instagram photo), but other than that, it was a nice space. We didn't end up eating breakfast that was provided on the 6th floor each day, instead we opted to try a restaurant near us each day. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only parking they provide is valet - otherwise you need to walk to the nearest parking garage about 1-2 blocks away. Thanks for having us! read more

We had planned to go to Chicago for a few days, and we were looking for a hotel that was within walking distance of all the places we wanted to visit. Kinzie checked the most boxes - Navy Pier, Art Museum / Centennial park, the Riverwalk, etc. Also walking distance to the Loop, so easy airport access. My wife thoughtfully booked a top floor corner room. Great view and quiet. We got in a little later than we wanted (Southwest) and we asked the desk clerk where to go for dinner. His recommendation was a 5 minute walk away, and a fantastic choice. Yes, the "snacks" in the lobby are a bit comical. But with great restaurants within walking distance not an issue. If you really need junk food 7-11 is around the corner. Happy Hour on the other hand is great. While we were there, both Miller Lite and Modelo on tap, as well as 5 varieties of wine. Cheerful bartender. We walked to Frontera Grill for dinner one night, Harry Carry's another. You can literally walk west on Kinzie st from the hotel and find any kind of food you want. As for the price of parking a car, this is some of the most valuable real estate there is. When we visit places like this, we don't bother with a rental car. Uber, Lyft and Cabs will get you anyplace worth visiting. It was a $14 Uber trip to the Museum of Science. An Uber Black from the Second City theater back to the hotel was $30. We never spend as much in rides as the average car rental and parking. All in all the Kinzie is very nice. Room was very quiet. Bed was very comfortable. And the location was perfect. read more

We arrived at the hotel late (9 PM) and had an excellent, quick check-in process upon arrival. We were advised of the "complimentary" breakfast in the morning and wine/beer reception at night. Our room was on the 5th floor, and I panicked when we passed a men's room in the hallway. I thought I had mistakenly booked us at a communal hotel where we had to share bathrooms. We entered our room and I immediately felt relief when I saw the bathroom. Our room was very clean and decently spacious for our brief stay in Chicago. We slept great, too. We took advantage of the breakfast one morning and the wine, beer, and snacks one evening. I'm glad we did, because I got a bill after checkout that charged me a $25/day amenity fee for such things as these "complimentary" food and beverage offerings. I only wish I had drank more. LOL We chose this hotel because of its great reviews, affordable advance pricing, and, most importantly, its location. We were going to a show at The Chicago Theatre and it looked relatively close on the map. In person, it seemed much closer. Once you walk to the corner of the street, you can see the theater. It was perfect, because our show got out at 1 AM and we needed to get back right away to get some sleep before our early flight. I felt safe walking the streets at that time of night in that area, too. The hotel was also close to the meeting point of the Chicago food tour we were doing, as well as several restaurants and Michigan Avenue, without paying Miracle Mile prices. We could walk to everything, including the station we needed to ride back to O'Hare airport (about a 45 minute ride). I'd definitely stay at the Kinzie Hotel again. read more

Looks amazing online, upgraded to the "city view"... Hotel is completely under construction, definitely not what it looks like online, construction going on outside, 7am drilling going on outside that would wake the dead, ON A SATURDAY!!! Free bottled water was available upon request at the front desk. Happy hour each evening offered two drinks per person, with a small variety of wine and beer offerings. The happy hour snacks left a bit to be desired -- stale popcorn and bags of bar mix that included nuts hidden behind the counter. But continental breakfast in the mornings offered plenty of food, from breakfast sandwiches to self made waffles.
