Miguel has been cutting my hair for four years and I couldn't be happier with job he has done. Miguel rescued me from a hack job done by a barber at a walk-in barbershop that was so bad it made my wife gasp when she saw it. Luckily Miguel had an opening that evening, and was skillful enough to somehow undo the mess created by this barber. Needless to say I have been going to Miguel ever since and have been more than satisfied with the haircuts that he has given me. I stick to a pretty conservative haircut and I'm sure Miguel would prefer to do a bit more styling for me, but he gives me the cut that I want regardless, He is a great stylist, his rates are fair, he is flexible with my ever changing schedule, he is 100% reliable and his attitude and personality are unmatched. If only I had a dollar for all the hairstylists I went through before I found my match, my Miguel! My hair, in it's natural state, is straight and brown. Kinda like a mouse. Certainly it wouldn't secure me any beauty pageant nominations or talk show co-host positions. This is where Miguel steps in and transforms me from a mouse to - I'm not even kidding - fit for a Pantene commercial. He's saved me from bad hair decisions and gently sculpted my hair into what I now consider to be my best physical feature. I've been going to Miguel since 2006 or so. Wow, I just realized it's been a while... Anyways, Miguel is THE BEST. Hands down. No matter where I've moved around the city or outside of it (in Oakland now) or which location he's been cutting hair from, I've always enjoyed and had a great experience getting my haircut from Senor Escobar. He's just a fun, nice guy who knows how to treat people well and do his job phenomenally. My GF knows when I've gotten my haircut from Miguel and when I've gotten it cut elsewhere when I'm out of town. Seriously. Right away, Miguel made me feel at ease and gained my trust by really listening to my hair issues and most of all, by addressing them. One day while strolling through the Castro I stumbled upon Notorious Hair Salon. I decided to go in and ask for a consultation because 1) I was tired of my old stylist and 2) I LOVED the name. Miguel so happened to be the one working the desk and he gave me my consultation hair cut. He was able to make my ugly (and regretful) permed hair into smooth straight hair again! I've gone to Miguel ever since, and I followed him to his new location, It's All About You Salon. On a whim, I looked for hair stylist Friday afternoon. I wanted someone close to my office so I could (hopefully) get my hair cut and colored before I left downtown. Literally a five minute walk from my office, I found Miguel. He took a worn, shaggy mop and shaped it into a bright, fun and smart look. My hair is a big part of my look, and I'm willing to spend on a haircut to avoid getting a bad one. I researched stylists before choosing Behnaz, and she had glowing reviews and years of experience. First impression--Behnaz is lovely and elegant. I placed my trust in her ability to give me a cut that looked like the inspo I showed her on a model with similar hair texture. She immediately went in with the scissors and chopped it from almost waist-length to chin-length before shaping. As she cut the layers, especially the top got quite short. She ended up taking a flat iron to it, which I NEVER use on my hair. I wasn't able to tell if the cut would even work with my curl pattern. It ended up very...mushroomy. I pointed out that it seemed too heavy and she snipped a little weight off, but left it mostly as is. I had also booked a haircut for my mother and she was up next. My mother's cut only took about 15 minutes as she's an elder with very fine, straight hair. Her hair turned out very cute, but I left feeling unsure and insecure. I honestly wish I had asked her to continue working on mine since she had an extra hour left on my mother's appointment time. I followed up with Behnaz a week later as she said my hair might be "in shock" for a week or so. She said to give it another 2 weeks!! I ended up asking her to try to adjust it 2 weeks later. I've never had to have a stylist fix a haircut EVER. She thinned it out at the bottom, which was better, I guess. I felt I was inconveniencing her and just tried to wrap it up because there's nothing she could do about having cut the top layers too short. Ultimately, the haircut didn't ever lay right, and I believe Behnaz is more familiar with cutting straight hair, not textured hair. It might be the worst haircut of my life and I've had to resort to wearing a baseball cap to get through before I get it cut elsewhere. I had a consultation with another stylist who said, "Yeah, she knew she got you." Also--while Behnaz has a very sweet demeanor, she took TWO separate phone calls while she was cutting me. The first one was from family overseas and I was understanding of what seemed like an emergency--but the second call was from a prospective client inquiring about her prices. It felt rude that she was answering calls during my appointment time, and considering how poorly the cut turned out, she needs to prioritize the client experience. I honestly feel bad leaving 2 stars because Behnaz is a kind person, but I want to spare other curly girls my pain. Straight hair girlies, this may work out just fine for you.

So impressive I even had her do my daughter curly hair cut. She did an incredible job. In addition the salon offers yummy snacks, delicious drinks, and crafty cocktails. It's beautiful inside and provides an elevated experience. The location is a plus too. Parking is easy. Once you're feeling your best you can pop out for dinner or drinks. My husband and I have even made it a tradition he picks me up and takes me out after my appointment.

There were gift bags, food and libation galore!!! A time was truly had, there was a surprise drag show and games with REAL prizes. There was a henna artist that offered amazing quick service and super neat! I went by myself and met up with friends. Although if I didn't know anyone, I still would have had a great time! This location was beautiful! Chic, bougie and oh so comfortable! I highly recommend if you need a small and quaint event location. I would not recommend more than 35 people. The other girl who waited was another stylist's second appointment. She did not get to her till about 45mins after the appointment time. Poor girl shared she had a high school dance that day and a nail appointment right after that she had to miss because the stylist ran behind. I personally did not like the outcome of her hair and believed they had too much leave out to speed up the process to get her done. so back to me... My hair was braided tightly and I was told I was tinder headed, I was burned twice and my appointment took about 4 hours! My babysitter was so upset because I was told it's about 3 hours max. The shop had an event and everyone was setting up around us and it felt so uncomfortable. I hated my hair in the end. I asked for the closure behind the hairline. The closure was placed too far back. I complained to the owner who said it was pretty much on me since I should have had the closure glued although she admitted it was not executed right. I said I was trying my best to be nice about it but this was a huge inconvenience because I couldn't get it fixed in the moment (I was sort of rushed out for their event). I could hear the stylist Samantha talking about me. It was so loud that another woman came to close the door. (So unprofessional and again uncomfortable). I then told the owner she was late and the owner said she was only 15 mins late. It was more than that and being late is not okay especially when they charge a late fee. I was scheduled to come back another day to make it right but I live over an hr away, have to plan childcare and with hostility like that I just didn't feel comfortable. I also didn't like how me and the other patron was treated.
