I came in after growing my hair out for SIX months. Heard and saw some good things coming from this salon so figured to give it a shot. Mark cut my hair and I did not get what I expected at all. Even when I decided to "trust the process" while he was cutting my hair, which felt like my hair was being grated off by the way he was holding and cutting it, I still had a bad gut feeling. My friend FaceTimed me during the cut and even later told me how concerned he was about how the turn out would be because from his outside POV, my hair was NOT looking good. My friend and I's concern was soon validated when I felt Mark continuing to cut my hair shorter and shorter. I mean 10 minutes into the cut, he had already cut it shorter than the reference pic. Which he had looked at multiple times. He talked himself up saying that he could do it which is why despite all the red flags I continued to give him the benefit of the doubt. Even when I went back to get a refund after finding out that I had a literal bald spot and uneven hair, which gave me the courage to actually want to go back because I was just going to take the loss, Mark told me that it was because my hair was already uneven from past hair cuts. So he was blaming me for the outcome? When he is the professional? He even admitted to it being a bad cut but still insisted on taking pictures of my hair cut after my initial cut, for what? To make me feel better? Everyone knew it was beyond horrible, including the other staff Donovan. So now I had to do a complete reset on my hair when I initially went in to get a celebratory hair cut. The pictures speak for themself, the reference, how long my hair was after growing it out SIX months (which is growth down the drain), and what I was left with. I literally had to get a buzzcut in order to do a full reset after what Mark did. Also forgot to mention, this took an hour and a half just for it to turn out like this. Essentially meaning it turned into a longer hair cut in order to try and make up for mistakes but that ended up making it worse. read more

At first, I thought there is no way she can handle my thick curly damaged hair, but, she truly gave me the best haircut ever. Moxie Salon is owned and operated by Donovan Blazak and I have been his customer for over 15 years. In all that time I always leave his salon with a great cut & color. He has owned and operated other salons before so he knows what he's doing and is a seasoned stylist that is excellent at color. My hair has been blond, auburn, brunette and dark blond, short, long, pixie, and bob. I'm not one to keep the same cut & color the same and like to play with it & he never lets me down. He also doesn't push product on you - in fact he rarely carries it, but he's happy to recommend if interested. The salon is quaint and easy to get to- right off Hwy 50 - Jefferson blvd exit and has plenty of parking. And unlike other higher end salon's that have dozens of stylist, 6 different product lines that they push on you - all of which require higher prices to cover their overhead, with Moxie Salon you get a seasoned stylist with reasonable prices. I just want to start this review with the fact that I like my hair. It's not exactly what I wanted but it still looks good. I was telling him that I would like my hair dyed while I was getting my hair shampooed and I asked if he would do what I wanted at another date. The haircut took an hour and a half and the whole time was such a physically painful experience. The whole time he was ripping the brushes and combs through my long hair and it hurt so bad the whole time. I am a people please and would NEVER say anything, I realize that I should have. I kept sitting there saying to myself that it would be done soon and I can go home and sleep. My scalp hurt so bad from the ripping through and he kept shaking my "hair" to check the layers but instead kept shaking my head which made him hit me neck a couple of times and my head was being pulled in all sorts of different directions. He was obviously not paying enough attention or he simply didn't care because he also poked me in the eye and said "sorry" he only apologized for that and the 8 minute wait. I didn't realize that it was going to get worse. At some point during the haircut, I felt a tug on my ear and then I heard the dropped and realize that he has ripped out my earring!! Not just a simple earring but a thread-less earring, those are very strong earrings that I've had difficulties purposely taking out! He picked it up and asked if I was wearing earrings and handed it back to me. I went to put it back in but my ear was throbbing so there was no way I was going to be able to put it back in so I just sat back and let him continue. He then got out the hairdryer and I was sooo thankful that it was almost over... or so I thought. He then proceeded to continue to yank my head in all sorts of different directions and burn my head with the hairdryer. I was so thankful to leave at the end. I was so overwhelmed with the whole situation and so upset as my head was throbbing and my scalp hurt so bad that I had a panic attack in my car. My sister called me and calmed me down. She was a little hasty and left a review on my behalf and I was not aware. I asked her to take down the review because I didn't want Donovan to be upset and I wanted to be able to process what happened as I was still emotional. My boyfriend then called to let Donovan know so that hopefully he wouldn't do it again to someone else because at this point I thought he just didn't know. Another employee answered the phone and once my boyfriend that that it was regarding his girlfriend the guy said "the redhead" which means that he knew. The employee sat in a corner during my whole appointment and whenever I would open my eyes he was looking at me so I assume he knew as he was seeing my face as I winced in pain in Donovan's chair. When my earring was ripped out he came behind us and began so say my hair was beautiful and asked if it was natural... distraction much? The employee then said that he would have Donovan call us back in a couple of seconds . That was yesterday and we still have not heard anything! My sister went back to delete her review and it was gone, it had deleted. Very shady to delete bad reviews don't you think? Especially when you seriously hurt someone! I ended up having the throbbing headache until I woke up this morning and my scalp still hurts. I didn't want to leave a bad review but this was just insane! People need to be aware because it seems that he deletes bad reviews. read more

Donovan does a great job sculpting hair -- he's one of those stylists that really polish the shape and cut and touch up. I also appreciate that his price was reasonable for women's haircut, and that he had openings when I was in town. He won't BS you into doing something that looks good in photos of other people but wouldn't work for your hair. I'm glad I gave him free reign of my hair - he did a great job!! read more

Listen. I have thick, wavy, curly hair... and my hair can be unruly and often times it's like a lion's mane. When it grows out - it becomes a bear. Anyone who is willing to handle my head of hair is a saint in my eyes. It takes extreme patience and effort because of the thickness. I was referred by my regular hair lady who is out of commission to book something with one of the people here. I ended up getting an appointment with Mark fairly quickly. Mark is a contemplative type of hair person. He is thoughtful and you can see him make his effort in a peaceful and reserved way. While I miss my regular hair lady - I think Mark did a fine job. He was not rough. I didn't experience any yanking or pulling that is out of the normal for a typical layered haircut. I think he handled my scalp very well. We all have different social batteries and I appreciated his comfortable quietness and introspective approach in addressing my hair needs. Music was on point too for me. So I was vibin. Searching for a new hairstylist can be scary. I loved my previous one but driving to Vacaville was starting to become too difficult, especially with two young kids. I needed to find someone closer and one I can trust. I've been doing research, spent hours upon hours reading reviews and looking at photos. And I also wanted to support locally. I read raving reviews about Donovan. I was blonde and wanted to go back to my natural hair color. I've heard from numerous people that it's not and easy process and if someone doesn't know how to do it, the outcome would be disappointing. I've had a whole journey with getting to blonde before it was done right, so it's only right that I had trust issues. I called up Moxie salon and grilled the person on the phone with a lot of questions, they had all the right answers and confidence in their voice, I let them know that I would like to schedule it with Donovan. Well, guess who answered all my questions? I was talking to him the whole time lol. Anywho, today was my appointment day. Yay!!! I've had about 9+ months of growth, he did not disappoint.
