I have mixed feelings about this place. The first time I went was the day before a football game and they were on an hour wait. The food and service was awesome, especially for a tourist trap. We raved about this place to some family and we drove from okc for dinner. The second time, we waited again and the service was bomb. The food was extremely saddening. Oh Eskimo Joe's, I understand your small town appeal and cult like attraction, but you just don't live up to the hype. While the spot and building are all nice, large and welcoming, the food failed. We started out with the peppered bacon cheese fries. Ok I get the hype on these- super yummy. The fries are why I gave it 3 stars. Thick cut, spiced, yummy bacon and cheesy. The only downer is the cheese solidifies fast and makes all the fries stick together. It would have been an ok experience if we ordered those and left. We didn't. We also order a chicken dinner with apple sauce and Mac n cheese as well as a chef salad. Well those sucked. The chicken for both plates was the same. While the marinade wasn't bad that was it. They were cold, over cooked and dry. The MAC was good, like velveeta good. The apple sauce was legit just a cup of mots with the lid partly off. Not worth the price. Super bland and boring. The salad wasn't much better. The mix was boring, with a massive in-cut price of green pepper and somehow stale(?) croutons. Uhg. It was all just so boring, horribly prepared and a massive letdown. So far this experience has been good they told us 10 minute wait it wasn't even three or four minutes got seated right away. We had heard about this place from several of our relatives for a long time and finally found ourselves in Stillwater. The place is eclectic and fun. The food was really good and the service while a bit slow was great. Our waiter was fun and we really enjoyed ourselves. We picked a night when OSU was not playing in town in November and still had a 75 minute wait to be seated. Fortunately for my wife they have a large gift shop to spend money in. We had a great time and would be sure to return the next time we are Stillwater. read more

Everyone likes Eskimo Joe's and I don't know why. "Get the cheese fries" they say.... "They're delicious" they say.... But I wasn't really impressed. The last time I was at Eskimo Joe's was 2007. I have never gone here and it made a hell of a first impression. The staff was friendly family and it was a very clean and organized place. I was with a party of three and we went right when they opened. We were Seated right away and got our drinks right away. We order a side of Bacon Cheese fries and my god the we're good along with the ranch that came with it. I order the cowboy classic burger which was a really good and juicy burger it only took 8 minutes give it take to get all three meals out and the fries were also great. Our waitress stayed on top of us which was great because my drink never went dry. You can eat in the main area, a bar , or on the roof so a lot of choices. They also have a gift store I didn't get to check it out. My meal ended up costing 16.59 which is a bit pricey for a burger but it was a great burger. This is almost a 4 star. Only things that held it back today was the room temperature was ice cold and had a few flies indoors that we're buzzing all over our food. The food and service were good, though. Order the cheese fries!! Obviously this place is known for them and they don't steer you wrong when they ask if they can start you off with some. I would've enjoyed them as my meal. I didn't want to share. I was on the fence about their blackened chicken sandwich (ordered very hot spice). Wasn't t very spicy to me, but had really good flavor and was good as a whole. The orange remoulade sauce they serve on the side is good by itself, but I'm not sure it goes with the sandwich, or at least I didn't prefer it together. I don't think it needed a sauce at all. The service was superb today and the place is pretty big, with an upstairs and outdoor seating with unique decor and gift shop attached. Definitely worth going if you're in the area. Eskimo Joe's is like a tourist spot: everyone needs to eat here when they visit Stillwater. However, i do not frequent Joe's because when you compare the food to similar dishes at other restaurants in town, i feel they are not the best. It is typically a place for college students and friends to gather in numbers, or take parents and friends when visiting. Burgers are ok, but usually over cooked. I have yet to have a chicken breast that was not dry, etc. However, if you want an awesome appetizer, their cheese fries can not be beat. This was my first time here. I've lived in Oklahoma since 1990 and been to Stillwater a zillion times but never think to go here. They should do a bit of advertising in OKC or surrounding areas to keep this place top of mind. I liked it okay. The service was excellent. Our server Raynan gets 5 stars for being on top of everything and keeping our drinks topped off. The environment is bold, colorful, and interesting. The music is a bit loud upstairs for my tastes, but that's not a biggie. I got the low-fat chicken chili garden pasta - which was served with a 'piece of cheese toast'. When the server said piece of cheese toast - I expected a piece as in a normal sized piece of bread. The piece of cheese toast is more like a very small slice of toast. Again, not a deal breaker. As far as taste, it was just okay. Good for bar food but nothing to write home about. If it were based on the food alone - I'd give it 3 stars. I had such an awful experience here on my birthday that I am honestly ashamed to admit that I ever worked here back in college. The food was sent back because it was incorrect, twice. The expo guy was arguing with us that our food wasn't wrong. And to make matters worse, I asked a host (that was doing nothing) for a lid for a ranch on our way out, and she told me "no. You'll have to ask your server for that" while giving me a disgusted, dirty look and proceeded to ignore me. Most small towns have a restaurant success story, in the case of Stillwater its Eskimo Joe's. Adding to the tenure, they have multiple spin offs which cover Italian and what I call Tex-Mex that I didn't visit. I welcome any business that can defy the odds and actually make a go at well funded retirement. EJ's starts out at the hostess stand with a better than Hard Rock Cafe gift shop. Clothing, koozies, shot glasses...marketing scheme in overdrive. A small 10 minute wait and we're seated in the bar browsing the menu. Traditional Americana complete with every possible item that can be dropped in a basket into hot oil. I have a soft spot for fried mushrooms and onion rings; and the kitchen didn't disappoint. The crust on each item in our combination appetizer was well prepared. Not a hint of grease could be found and excellent ranch dressing. Burgers is what EJ's is famous for so I went for the Joe's Special medium rare with jalapeno jack; the wife pairing hers with cheddar and sweet pepper bacon. Both burgers came with amazing fries adding to their frying prowess. My burger arrived well done; the bun could have been better too. Besides those two complaints the experience was pleasant. New favorite, the sweet pepper bacon which I will order a pound of when visiting again. A 20 year old OSU sophomore manager took my meal off the bill due to the kitchen's cooking mistake. For all the hype with the t-shirts and Legacy this restaurant has in Stillwater, we were not very impressed. We've lived here for 3 years, and I would say at least 10 people have shared with us that the quality, portion size, and value for the money at Eskimo Joe's has gone down considerably in recent years. Sad, because I have known about this place ever since I saw it on a t-shirt in the 80s movie, "Can't Buy Me Love". Let me first start with my server, Joe. He was excellent. As a first timer to Eskimo Joe's, I think I had way too high of expectations. Please note that 3 stars means it's good. I'm just not a fan. Multiple people told me to order cheese fries. So i did. They had peppered bacon on them. Everything seems over priced, but they've been in business for decades. I think everyone should go at least once so they can say they went. I even over heard another table mentioning it was their first time. Ask to be seated as far from the front door if possible. When the doors open, cold air hits you and then your food gets colder faster. The pickles at the beginning were an interesting touch. I liked them. I wouldn't want too many though. I didn't have a chance to go to the retail side, but there were lots of bussed in kids that were shopping. Everyone had bags, so you can buy that stuff there instead of waiting for Christmas time at the mall. read more

As an OSU alum (85' - Go Pokes) it has been many years since venturing back to Stillwater and Eskimo Joes. I was there in the early days, when Eskimo Joes meant beer....copious beer.....and not much more! Spend weekend in Stillwater, and REALLY enjoyed the evening we spent at Joes!!! The staff are SUPER friendly, the place is well run (albiet crowded and loud), the retail store is a hoot...but the biggest surprise was just how REALLY tasty the food was!!! Cheese fries with bacon - a treat even on my diet!!! Chicken sandwich was wonderful, great fries, everyone at our table spoke higlhy of their dish!!! The real treat of the weekend was heading back over Saturday morning and getting a 37th anniversary poster signed by Stan Clark (owner) and Bill Thompson (artist behind Joe)....what a couple of class act guys!! Stan and I laughed about how my memories of him began as a long haired guy behind the bar pouring beer....and selling t-shirts from a box behind the counter....they have come a very long way!
