Being nice, funny, apologetic and offering a free sampling of dessert really doesn't change the fact that we paid well over $450 for my mother's 70th birthday dinner where each part of the meal came out cold and several dishes had to be sent back. Not to mention, we were there for almost 3 hours and the service for the just "ok" meal was incredibly slow. We are not "those people" who make something wrong when it isn't at a dinner. The bread came out cold in the middle, the steaks came out under cooked, the gravy on the chicken fried steak was cold, and none of us really got to eat our dinners together because things kept having to go back and be reheated or fixed. Drinks were forgotten. It was just a total mess! We came all the way from Kansas City, Dallas, and Manhattan, KS to surprise my mom for her 70th and we had a better meal at the sports bar than we did at this "fine dining" establishment. To top off the night they handed my mom a "special" card for her bday that the whole staff signed "just for her," but it was a pre signed Anniversary Card wishing "many more years" I mean, I can't make this stuff up. The staff was very kind and apologetic, but I have to be honest, I don't feel we should ever have had to pay for this dinner. Free dessert doesn't really make up for an entire night of mistakes. I visit OSU once a month and stay at The Atherton Hotel each stay. The Ranchers Club is the on site restaurant and while convenient the food is very inconsistent. Outside of salads, there are limited vegetarian options and if you want seafood salmon is the go too. However, even that is inconsistently prepared and often served overcooked. My go to is the Santa Fe salad and sweet potato fries which I would like to expand from but haven't found anything better. Fitting the decor is very midwestern and lots of cowboy design. The students work at the restaurant and like many places it depends on the server on quality. Understanding they're still learning, I haven't had an experience that wouldn't make me want to return. Hoping they'll consider adding at least a veggie burger option for those who don't eat beef and chicken. read more

Phenomenal steaks. I have eaten many steaks, at many fine restaurants. I cannot recall better. Between us we had three cuts: ribeye, filet, and strip? And they were all just fantastic. We all had the same side, which you have to ask for: loaded mashed potatoes. They aren't on the menu, but get them! Our appetizer, Clothesline Bacon, was fun and tasty. So we're our cocktails. Is it pricey? Yes. Is it worth the money? Absolutely. Phenomenal steak. Just phenomenal. read more

We celebrated my son's graduation with dinner here last night. My son had always wanted to come here and we made reservations several months in advance. The atmosphere is very nice. Stately yet comfortable. My son said they were known for their calamari. It had to one of the worst calamari's I've had . No flavor, tough snd the sauce was minimal and sweet. Our steaks very very good and seasoned well but expensive! My son didn't care for his lamb and the salmon was dry. Side items like potatoes, asparagus, and salads were mediocre especially for the price. The free dessert my son received for his graduation was outstanding. Caramel, brownie cheesecake. It and the steaks were the standouts. Service was good, our waitress was excellent but stretched too thin. Atmosphere, steak and service would have been four Stars pbut two entrees and side items pulled our review down. When you pay these prices, all should be top notch. read more

THE STATE ROOM is my new Zannotti's replacement, since Z's is just too chaotic and noisy for me anymore. Service: pretty good (*very* friendly, just a bit slow at times). Noise level: a little higher than expected, but at least I could hear my friends - mostly. Drinks fine. Food quality: a little uneven - the cheese cubes on the charcuterie board left a bit to be desired & whatever the granola thing was = just strange. A BIG disappointment is the lack of diversity on the food menu: I would love to be able to eat dinner here, but not enough veg/fish items. In principle, love that they have dinner sandwiches, but really wish there were some less carnivorous options (or at least one??). Grilled portabella mushroom as sub for beef burger, or the much-vaunted new "Impossible" burger = GREAT options. Fish po'boy would work too. Anything, really... hopefully the management will update this. read more

So living in Vegas makes me privy to "world-class restaurants." Sigh. I've eaten at Ruth's Chris, Flemmings, Boa, etc. etc. etc. and honestly, it can't hold a candle to this student run restaurant in the middle of nowheresville Oklahoma. I celebrated my 19th birthday at this restaurant. I've been here at least 5 or 6 times, both for lunch and dinner. It's by far the fanciest restaurant on campus and most likely the town. Throw this place in Vegas, and it would definitely give the steakhouses here a run for their money, not only with the quality and flavor of the food, but the ambiance and service as well - it's all top notch. First off, the decor is wonderful. Each booth has a large photo and the brand mark of a Oklahoma or Texas ranch. There is a gorgeous stone fireplace in the middle of the room (I requested a table right in front of it for my birthday.) I love the cowhide chairs and the antler chandeliers. It's "luxury ranch" without looking like something from an old west movie. Second, the food is delicious. I have never had anything bad here. Lunch is out of this world, and dinner is very chic, without being fussy. The food is simply good, and the sorbet palette cleansers make it "extra fancy." ;-) Service here is amazing. I've never once had bad service. No matter how large the group, they were able to accommodate. Reservations were always a breeze. I've eaten here with just one person and in a group of 11 - it was never a problem getting in. As smooth as this place runs, nobody would think it was student run unless you told them; it's that top-notch. At certain times, all the girls in the restaurant get a rose. On my friend's birthday, she was given two wine glasses, on the house, which she gave to moi. It's cool touches that make this place stand out. Be warned, you will spend some major cash here. I haven't eaten here since 2007, and it looks like they've lowered their prices a bit. Once, a friend treated a group of us here on her meal plan (yes, you can use your meal plan here!) and ended up spending about $920 (including tax and tip) for dinner for 11 of us, and none of us had alcohol! Yep. Oh well, meal plan was a lose it or use it type set up, so she treated us well. Lunch is much more affordable, but I used meal plan every time I have eaten here. This is a top notch place to eat and should definitely be visited by anybody remotely in the area. read more

Visited on: March 27 2012, April 8 2014 I've been here twice. The first time I came here, it was the first meal I ever had in Stillwater (or Oklahoma, period), and it was a good first impression that belied how lacking Stillwater is in good restaurants. I went for breakfast, and they had fairly standard breakfast fare - eggs, sausages, pancakes, etc. - that was fairly delicious. The second time I went was for lunch, and I had the RC Burger, Hand-Cut Homemade Fries, and Chicken and Lentil Soup, all of which were very good. The atmosphere is clean and fancy. This might be one of the best restaurants in Stillwater, but dinner is a difficult proposition due to the relatively high prices. read more

first of all, the food and atmosphere was great! this review is about my service- i was there with my boyfriend and our parents for a nice dinner post college tour, and my boyfriend is not considering osu (i am) but came along just to travel with me. our server asked my boyfriend numerous questions about himself and completely left me out of the equation. he didn't even look at me, even though i am the one considering osu. it felt very sexist to me, and i don't want any women to feel the way i did. read more

If you plan to go here, know that every bite/swig is delicious. My wife had the chicken carbonara with a glass of Riesling; I had the 8oz. filet mignon (medium) with a glass of Cabernet. This is the kind of place that you actually get how well done you want the steak; others often overcook. The meals came with bread and butter, and we finished it all off with cheesecake. We often skimp, so we also celebrate big. Overall, this is an exquisite dinner. My only qualms: though the dining room is beautifully furnished, it's pretty small, which left an impression of being slightly crowded. This is only minor. What hits me hardest is the price tag for it all; to give you a hint the small slice of cheesecake was a whole $10. Like before, I say that I savored every toothsome bite, but I could never be a member of The Rancher's Club. Most times, I've got to get more food for my buck. I hadn't been to The Rancher's Club since my days as an OSU freshman with hundreds of dollars remaining on my meal plan to use, but we stopped in after a game on my birthday weekend and it was as good as we remembered! First of all, the new bar area looks fabulous. I might have forgone the reservation in the dining room and just eaten in there if I had known. It was packed with a fun atmosphere, but as far as I could tell, they serve the full menu in the bar/lounge and on the patio. We had been munching on tailgate food all day so unfortuantely, we got full fast, but we loved what we had. We started with the fried calamari, a Caesar salad and tomato bisque. The calamari was really good and I really liked the chipotle aoli it came with. The Caesar was fine - not the best I've ever had, but it was good. Unique touch with a couple fried anchovies on top (if you like your Caesar strong on the anchovy flavor). For dinner, I had the filet with macaroni and cheese, and my husband had the strip with au gratin potatoes. The filet was cooked to perfection, a beautiful medium rare all the way through. Gorgeous and delicious. I also really liked the macaroni and cheese. It lived up to my memories of the homemade pasta Rancher's had back when I was a student (I'd order a half order of pasta instead of a salad because pasta is my weakness and I couldn't choose between pasta and a good steak!). They still cook the pasta at a perfect al dente texture, and the creamy cheese sauce and breadcrumbs made for a delicious mac and cheese. We were too full for dessert, unfortuntaely, but we really enjoyed our dinner at Rancher's. It's definitely a special occasion-type place, especially considering we are usually in Stillwater for casual sporting events. I'm sure we'll be back eventually though. If you dine in the food is amazing. On the other hand if you order to-go the punctuality is often terrible and the food is almost always not worth the money. Time and time again I have given the to-go a chance and the food is always cold, almost always late, and I have never had chicken that was not beyond overcooked. The Rancher's Club offers the closest thing to fine dining you're going to find in Stillwater, OK. I have been here twice - once for lunch and once for dinner. Compared to prime steak houses (i.e., Morton's, Ruth's Chris, etc.), the quality of the food is inadequate, but equally pricey. Don't expect to get our of here for less than $40 per person for dinner or $20 per person for lunch (with no alcohol). The steaks are good and were cooked correctly. For lunch, I enjoyed a salad, hamburger, and peach-cobbler style dessert - all of which were good. On the plus side, the food is very high quality - about as high as it gets for Stillwater. The ambiance is really relaxing and enjoyable and the service is generally good. Accessibility is a bit of an issue, however. Located in the Atherton Hotel on the campus of Oklahoma State University, the Rancher's Club is not easy to locate if you are not familiar with the campus. Patrons must park in the student union parking garage to access the restaurant/hotel. If I am considering this restaurant to be nothing more than a training facility for students seeking careers in the restaurant biz, than I'm a happy camper. When compared to true fine dining restaurants, I must say the Rancher's Club falls a bit short. However, this place does have some of the best food in Stillwater and I'd recommend giving it a shot. read more

The service isn't really that bad, but there were literally no other diners in the place when we went so I expected a little more refills and explication of the specials than we got. No comments on the wine select, we did not inbibe. Parking situation is kinda lousey. I've been to the Ranchers Club several times. Last week was a huge improvement over last year's visit. Our steaks were perfect and the service was exceptional. DON'T order to-go during dead week. I ordered my food several days in advance and it wasn't a huge order either. When I went to pick up my food at the scheduled time the order wasn't ready and I was told to wait. They don't have seating near the podium, so I just stood there and waited. The person at the counter was moving slowly even though there was a decent sized line and every few minutes he would have to leave the stand because the kitchen was missing items or not putting the orders together properly. After about 30 minutes of waiting I spoke up, and the waiter had forgotten my name at that point, and finally received my food. I also asked if there was anything they could do about the cost of parking because I arrived at my scheduled time and now had to pay for parking due to the long wait for my food. A women was bringing out more to-go orders and responded with "No, we don't have anything to do with parking. They are a separate service and you will have to pay." This was disappointing to hear as I had arrived at my scheduled time and the restaurant wasn't ready with my order. When I got home my food was cold and not worth the high cost. read more

Went to TRC last night for my Dad's birthday. The restaurant is great. Really nice atmosphere in the restaurant and bar next door. The employees couldn't be friendlier and our reservation was ready shortly after we arrived. Our server for the evening was Destiny, she was very knowledgeable, friendly and took excellent care of us. We couldn't have asked for more from her. I had an old fashioned which was tasty and made well with Bulliet Rye. The food was pretty good all around. We had a delicious homemade bread with brie cheese in it which was amazing. The wedge salad with the Vegas steak was portioned well and the steak was tender, perfectly cooked to rare, and seasoned well. My parents ordered the salmon, one with brocollini, one with the sweet potato gratin. Both said all of the above was fantastic and the best they had eaten. The chili glaze took it to the next level. Where I feel they flopped a bit and gets the 3-star rating for them was with my order. I selected the 14oz, smoked prime rib, cooked to medium. I asked for an end cut if possible, because I sort of like more of the savory crusty goodness. What I got was something which was over cooked, not remotely close to tender, and lacking any sort of smoke flavor or crusty savory goodness. While the meat was light pink, it was definitely way over medium, there was no juiciness or tenderness to the cut. It was really tough to actually cut through with the steak knife. I didn't send it back, because I just don't do that. I order the steak with whipped potatoes which weren't good at all. They too matched the meat for dryness and I probably only ate a couple of bites of them. The au jus and horseradish on the side were pretty tasty and what you would expect. We finished the meal off with TRCs famous pecan balls, incredible if you haven't had them, get them. To be honest, because who likes a liar, I would have been content with a wedge salad, maybe double the steak, and the pecan balls. That would have been amazing and 5-star worthy. Like I said Destiny is savage and she brought us more of the decadent chocolate sauce with the pecan balls. 18 stars for her. So overall, I would totally go back. The rating is low because for a place specializing in beef, I would expect them to nail a cut of prime rib and mashed potatoes. This should be their bread and butter. You should all make a reservation and check it out for sure. Steak and entree prices are in concert with higher end steak houses. Drinks are priced much lower. read more

We thought tip was included, but apparently it wasn't. The server EMMA started to be really rude to us when she saw we didn't write a tip. We all pitched in cash, but then she went to the front and complained about us. She came back and threw our IDs at us on the table and walked away. Anyone who's been to OSU typically has the same question: Why does an internationally-known research university (it's R-1 under the Carnegie classification) feel like such a depressing place? One of the main reasons is that the university is constantly catering to their rural base, and has seemingly no interest in attracting anyone else. This is nowhere more evident than in the Rancher's Club, which is essentially a cheap diner dressed up as a fancy restaurant. Just look at their absolutely uncreative menu (one of the pics on their Yelp profile). Taking prospective students or job candidates to the Rancher's Club is almost a sure way to make them lose interest in OSU. Say they're a vegetarian; they can either get a salad or a greasy fettuccine alfredo. That's it. Say they're vegan; they can't get anything other than chips and salsa. Say they want something that seems a bit imaginative or exotic? They're pretty much up a creek on that! This is the signature restaurant for a university with renowned faculty from all over the world, and yet their offerings seem to have been set by someone who's never left the state of Oklahoma in their entire life. A great opportunity to put OSU's campus on par with other state university campuses, and it was totally blown. What a shame. read more

Good, but bad. First the good; the Grilled beef tenderloin tournedos were cooked perfectly and the seasonings and balsamic reduction worked well with the entrée. My wife had the salmon and enjoyed it. The bad; barely warm beef, salmon with a rare center and over 1 hour wait for food. Full disclosure, we had a group of 10 but this was a reservation that was on the calendar for over a month. They should have been prepared. The long wait and "cold" beef was a deal breaker. The waitress should have come to the group and explained delays but all we got was a statement saying the food was on its way, which in reality meant 15 minutes later. read more
