That's fine because it allowed us a bit of time to check out downtown Bastrop. Once seated, service was American cafe classic. Very friendly and full of memorabilia on the walls and decore. The evening cleaning crew left us an upside down dead . . . Yup, you guessed it. We told the server, they might want to clean it up before seating the next guest at that table. The French toast and fried chicken was as good as it looked, with crispy chicken, fruit and just enough sweetness. The only thing I wasn't completely sold on was the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was brown, which threw me off because that's not what I normally expect from sausage gravy, and the biscuits were a little too dense for my preference. So I think this is one of those places that does some things very well... enough to build up a solid base of regulars, even though some of their other offerings were disappointing, like improperly reheated enchiladas. But if you know what to order, you can really enjoy this place. Oddly enough, they have chorizo on the menu, but don't list it among the available proteins on the breakfast taco menu, which I personally find very strange. Chorizo and egg is such an iconic breakfast taco offering. I'll bet they'd do it justice.

When Co-Vid 19 hit, I thought I would try supporting a local business, and wound up here since it was close to my apartment. I thought it was pricey, then I ate some, worth it! The food is seasoned perfectly, there's enough for two meals, and there are a variety of meats to chooses from. I never thought I would get steak in West Campus, yet here we are! I really appreciate seeing my food made on the spot, the careful packaging, and the friendliness of the staff. I've actually gone a few times now, and while their steak is my favorite part of the menu, most of their plates are pretty great! (I still haven't tried the burger yet) **My only quip is that they also sell a delicious tres leches cake that I can't seem to find advertised anywhere?
