We drove by this place last year and made a note that we HAD to go back. We arrived excitedly To find out that not only is a beautiful and fun stop, it's also the actual movie site of Harry and the Hendersons. We were exploring and looked for a bathroom to discover the outhouses were locked with a padlock. We went over to the store where they had delicious looking espresso drinks with every intention of purchasing one after seeing the sites and using the outhouse. The person we assume was the owner spoke to us incredibly rudely and actually blocked our car in, and said it was only for customers. 1) we would've supported you if you weren't a jerk 2) you're on a famous movie site. Let people see it and drive away if they want. You will get way more sales with politeness and grace than a closed hand. Really sad cause this place had so much potential! read more

Everyone who drives to Steven Park or lake Wenatchee can't miss this little coffee shack. It's on one of the curve on highway 2. The decorations of this little shack will scream to you to stop by. The place has little seating area with mountains view. I found it's very pleasant. The ice mocha is very good. It has rich and strong coffee taste. I would recommend to get the biggest cup since you probably really like it and not going to go by that area often. The Homemade big foot cookie has lots of M&M, chocolates chip, and oat. It's quite sweet but the texture and everything is interesting. I would get it again anytime I go there. Such a cute, little pitstop off of 2. I've passed by this place a couple times throughout the years & FINALLY stop by. We stopped here on Valentine's Day - so I tried their seasonal drink that was on their sign. I ordered the Dark Chocolate Raspberry - OMG, so yummers! The workers there are extremely friendly, and the coffee is tasty. They have a variety of flavors, and can make just about anything coffee related. If you feel like being threatened, attacked and abused feel free to stop here. While driving across the mountains my two year old said she had to go to the bathroom. Well looking for a place to stop we stumbled upon here and thought, "wow, how lucky!" Little did we know...they don't let you use the bathroom unless you purchase something, okay, but then have signs everywhere saying if you urinate on a tree they will prosecute you, overkill. My husband bought a coffee and my daughter ended up pooping. There was no soap or hand sanitizer available. Unfortunately, I have to use soap and water but carry my own soap just in case but I have yet to find a place without any running water. When I asked the lady at the both I was met with the same hostility from our initial interaction when I asked about a waterfall. Apparently, asking for information is seen as an irritant as well. With the unhelpfullness of the lady came the intimidation attempts of the man. He decided he needed to step in and attacking us also when my husband told her she didn't need to be rude. The started raising their voice and telling us to leave, we were already walking away, then he followed us to our car and said, "if you post anything about this I have your tag number." My jaw dropped and I said, "are you seriously trying to threaten me right now? Would you like me to call the cops?" He decided to back down some but started snooping in my car trying to find something he could use for ammunition. I have worked customer service for over fifteen years. I have never been treated this way or talked to anyone with even half the attitude he and the female worker have. Please never stop and spend your money here unless you also want to be threatened. read more

Got an iced americano and asked for an extra shot (triple shot). I've been a barista for 10 years so I know good coffee. The coffee itself is not bad, but the preparation was not good. I watched the lady pull the shots and they were way too fast. My triple shot americano tasted burnt and very watered down. I asked for all ice, no water....but watched her put water in it once her little bucket ran out of ice? My drink was also not all the way full. I would love to support this little place, and I know they pride themselves on their coffee. With good coffee and a nice espresso machine I would expect better from this place. read more

Good stop along the highway to stretch your legs, enjoy a coffee and check out the waterfall from their viewing deck behind the stand. I've stopped many times and have always been treated well! I can't help but notice the low marks and thoughtless, self-entitled comments they get for enforcing their "bathroom for paying customers only" rule. Think about it: Stevens Pass has over 2,000,000 cars per year (5,750 cars per day on average); there are not many options to use a bathroom between Gold Bar and Leavenworth. Even if a fraction of cars pull off to use the can, you can imagine they deal with this day-in and day-out. It only takes 250 uses on average before portapots reach full capacity. I was told by another business up in Skykomish they were paying $350/month for their sanicans: this small little coffee shop has 3 or 4. You're talking $1400/month so customers can use the toilet (with just one servicing), and of course: the more often they fill up, the more often they have to be serviced! Not to mention somebody probably gets the pure joy of cleaning them from time to time throughout the month to keep them comfortable for their "customers". If you do the math, $350/250 uses = $1.40 / use. It's not a big city on sewer that costs fractions of a penny for each flush. So your mini-van carrying 4 crying kids may have just cost them $6 and you're worried about paying for a cup of coffee or a couple of milkshakes!? Hope you feel better about that $0.30 peppermint patty you bought and whined about. read more

Wanted to give it zero stars. Had 2 kiddos in the car on the way back from Leavenworth. Both had to go to the bathroom badly. Stopped here and saw the portapotties had locks on them ran to ask the coffee stand for the key and was told that we had to buy something. There was a line so decided to have her go in the bushes. Went to have my crying kiddo pee outside in the bushes to have an older woman come over to tell me don't pee on her property. Unbelievable! Loved this place. We decided on an impromptu road trip from Seattle and are very happy we did. We were sorry to hear they were out of bigfoot cookies for the day, but we plan to get there early next time to get one for our daughter. She loved the bigfoot carvings. My husband, who loves film history, was excited to be at the location of the filming for parts of Harry and the Hendersons. You can't go into the building that was used for filming of the North American Museum of Anthropology, but you can get your picture by the door. Nice seating areas and convenient location. I used to love coming to the Espresso Chalet and would come out often and recommend it to many people. This past weekend, I stopped with three friends on our way to Leavenworth. We purchased two drinks (for which I left a 100% tip, essentially coming out to the price of four drinks) and went to sit on the picnic benches to drink our drinks. Two of my friends ate their lunches my other friend and I drank our drinks. A man (who I'm assuming was the owner) came out and asked if he could get us anything. At first I thought he was exercising good customer service but I quickly learned I was wrong. He proceeded to tell us that he is running a business and it's not helpful to him when people enjoy his view when they "bring their own products". I told him I'd purchased multiple products from him and held up my drink while pointing to my friend's drink. He pointed at my friends lunches and sarcastically quipped, "Oh, so they're with you. Got it." (It was everything I could do not to give him an equally sarcastic reply about willingly sitting two feet away from strangers without masks during a pandemic, but I digress). I fully support businesses being reluctant to let people park on their property and use their space without purchasing anything but I also expect business owners to apologize when they realize they have essentially accused you of taking advantage of them after they learn that you've actually purchased multiple items. I can't even count the number of families I've seen eating their own snacks at this place over the years and I've never seen any of them being accused of taking advantage because they didn't buy a drink for every single person they had with them, let alone criticized for eating something they brought along while others in their party enjoyed the drinks they purchased. It would be best if this owner didn't randomly pick and choose who he wants to antagonize and who he doesn't. At any rate, I will not be bringing my business here any longer, I will not recommend it to anyone else, and I will make sure anyone who asks me knows it's better to just wait for the next stop. There are many beautiful views along highway 2, no need to hassle yourself with this business. read more

And it shows through and through with there creative yummy drinks, and taking time to help those that are new/visiting to the beautiful Index/Skykomish area. So much knowledge of the area and who truly love what the good Lord has blessed them with. Everything from the basic espresso drink, to the Mark special of the day (don't ask what it is, cuz he won't tell you) every time I dig it! And you get an up close and personable photo with the coolest Harry wood carvings you will ever see. Bridal Vail falls whispers down the side of the majestic Mt Index. My 6 year old and wife needed the bathroom and my wife was promoted that we have to buy something to use the bathroom. Luckily she gave us the key first or my wife would have raised hell. We all used the bathroom I went back to return the key and noticed they had .33 cent Peppermint patties and bite sized chocolate. I dropped .50 cents on the counter and told her to keep the change. I read all the other bathroom complaint reviews. I can't believe this place is still in business. But my recommendation is to get the .33 cent candy if you have to stop for a potty break. They are ridiculous about that bathroom rule. read more

I don't care if the coffee is great. I would never stop here again. Threats and hostility is all the serve. My 2 year old needed to use the restroom, we had stopped by a place down the road that didn't have one available and the pointed us in the direction of this "great" coffee stand that would allow us to use their restrooms. We ask for the key as the woman VERY RUDELY interrupted my mother and I saying we had to come back to purchase something or "we would be in trouble". Her tone was almost demeaning.. Noth a great start, but we did agree. It was 100% our plan to purchase a coffee seeing as I was exhausted from the 3 hour drive, that was up until I found the male owner standing directly behind my car making sure I could not leave until I bought something. I found that extremely rude and I also did not appreciate him taking down my license plate number for no reason. After that, I got in my car, told him to move as he acted like he didn't know what he was doing. He ran to the stand and called the police. ...my daughter needed to use the restroom. That is all. I left feeling upset, threatened and in shock that two people could be so disrespectful and rude. You can only go so far with a good product if you have a TERRIBLE attitude and more disrespect for a human than I have ever witnessed. I have been to a lot of places with bad customer service and have never left a bad review. I made this Yelp just to post how awful this place is. Upon the recommendation of friends, we stopped here for milkshakes on the way home from Leavenworth. If you want options--and they've got them--and don't mind nothing more than soft-serve vanilla ice cream mix (NOT ice cream, mind you, but the milk mix) with Torani syrup + ice, then by all means, go here for a milkshake. My bf and I must be milkshake snobs I guess. I ordered the kahlua almond fudge and he ordered the peppermint patty. We both took a few sips and tossed them in the trash.
