I called Crossroads Animal Hospital desperate to get a vet to see my Husky. He had been sick for about 4/5 days, not getting better. I had Blood work and X-rays done from a petco total care hospital in Austin but no actual help from them. Dr. Maynard and Crossroads Animal Hospital is the sole reason my dog Diego will be okay. He is very knowledgeable and truly cares about helping animals. He doesn't waste your time, or your money. He does what's necessary to help, and is honest. He told me very quickly he could feel something in Diego's intestine and let me know we need to do surgery. Due to how long Diego had been sick, waiting another day could have risked infection and other issues so Dr. Maynard made time to give Diego surgery the same day. I don't know what would have happened if it weren't for them. I am truly grateful for the care and help I received. Everyone here was so nice and helpful. I originally went to an ER hospital in austin late at night, that's where my dog was diagnosed with stomach issues and given a prescription and special diet. A few days later when his symptoms got worse (very lethargic not wanting to move at all not even to eat or drink water) I took him to crossroads animal hospital, they were able to see him that same day! The vet and I went over the ER hospital's report together slowly and found that it was my dog's bones that were causing him such extreme pain that he was uncontrollably drooling. The Vet was thorough, kind, and understanding. He took his time to find the problem and a solution, which is what I appreciate the most. Pain meds were given to help aid my dog in his healing process. Thanks to him my dog is walking, running and wagging his tail again. read more

Would have rated 0 stars but not an option Called this vet to get a normal Bordatella Kennel Cough Vaccination. They used to be my Dogs vet in the past and had not been back there due to customer service challenges in the past. Typical for them to force me to come back for a full vet examination as a condition to give a Kennel Cough Vaccination. Again not the best of services from a pet perspective. My husband and I have used Crossroads, Dr. Halley and Dr, Maynard as Vets since moving here in 2007. Through our Precious dog, Teka, two kitties, Siamese Baby Cat and grey tabby, Mr. Tiger until they passed away in 2010 to age related issues. They had exemplary care from Crossroads and the staff. We had another cat friend adopt us in 2012, Big Boy. A beautiful orange tabby who also stole our hearts. Both Dr. Halley and Dr. Maynard cared for him for shots and when he became Diabetic. I cannot say enough about the care, time spent and assistance Dr. Halley gave. We saw him more during this than Dr. Maynard. Having never experienced having a Diabetic cat it was an overwhelming journey with so any unknowns. Dr. Halley offered for me to email him as care questions arose during this time. He was knowledgeable, caring and always gave the right advice and directions. I'm not sure why there are negative reviews about Crossroads but my husband and I never had that experience. I want to say a huge Thank You to the Dr.'s and the staff at Crossroads. You have all been great and helped "prop me up" during the toughest times. read more

Crossroads Animal Hospital My Momma, who is 76 years old, traveling from Austin area through Bastrop, on her way home, has an emergency will her two yorkies. Over the phone, I assisted her to this location, as we use to live in the area, to get emergency assistance for her Yorkies. It was 30 minutes before they were to close, and they refused to help her or the critical dogs. I even called and begged them to help save their lives. She stated that she asked the vet again and the vet stated no, they were about to close. What an awful place. I have never dealt with a veterinarian that was so cold hearted to a Great grandma and her two fur babies. I would never place my pets in the care of this place. read more

This place doesn't care about your animal. They just want your money. Telling by the rating I bet you all know this as well. My dog was in an emergency state and they refused to even look at him. My dog was an existing patient that had been going to crossroads for over 2 years. If you care for your pet just forget this place and go to Fayette County Vet Clinic in La Grange. I know it's a little bit of a drive but they actually genuinely care about animals. They told me they would see him right away even though they were busy. They pumped his stomach and watched him over night. Now he is a 3 year old big ole boy that is doing great. Anyway, avoid this place. I called last Friday to schedule an appointment for my geriatric cat. I hated that i have to hand her over and leaver her alone, but I understand the need for that policy. I was under the impression that I had scheduled an appointment for 10 a.m. this morning, but apparently no one at the office had heard of it. I live some distance from town, so I waited in the parking lot--for an hour, for two hours, for three hours ... After three hours, I called to check on her (for the third time), and they said, "Oh the doctors are out to lunch." I said, "I'll be knocking on your back door in a moment. I expect to receive my cat in her carrier and a copy of her medical records so that I can take her to a vet that has a clue what an appointment is." I hated the idea of leaving her alone with strangers, WHICH IS WHY I CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. We have, btw, three cats, five dogs, four rabbits, and six goats, none of which will be going back to Crossroads Animal Hospital. read more

I've taken my pets to Crossroads for years and have never had any issues. I've had to board my dog for a long weekend and loved that they provided me updates. Dr. Halley even called me when he was supposed to be out to give me my furbaby's test results. I've been bringing my dog here for three years, and while the prices are definitely high I was mostly satisfied with the care, although never understood why they didn't let owners in with their pets to get vaccinated - pre-Covid- never experienced that before. But with this last visit, I will never return: I brought my dog in for a teeth cleaning, shots, and a years supply of heart worm pills. With COVID, you have to wait in your car, wait for some one to come get your dog, etc so when I came to get him after his teeth cleaning and shots, I called from the parking lot and the first thing they asked was how am I going to pay. So of course the first thing I replied was, are you going to tell me what the bill is? Turns out to be $940 !!!!! ($312 for the cleaning, $244 for the Trifexis, $184 for vaccines, $50 for teeth related meds, $25 for friggin mouthwash but last and worst, $123 for teeth extractions!!! What was particularly upsetting was that a few days before the procedure they had me print out and fill in a form asking me what I wanted re: if another issue came up during the teeth cleaning. There were about 4 options,of which I chose: call me first, but if there is no time then just stick with the original procedure, no more. Well. I challenged the teeth extraction charge as I would NEVER approve that which is why I picked that option on the form. They ended up removing the charge ( AFTER I got highly agitated) . They brought my dog out, said nothing to me and I went home. When I got home and looked the paperwork over, I saw they had removed 12 TEETH!!!!!!!!!! Without a phone call, or even mentioning it when I picked him up!!!!! He's an aging dog, with aging teeth but regardless, they totally disregarded my written instructions that THEY had me fill out, then never even mentioned it. I am livid still. A week later. WTH do they insist on you filling out the dental authorization when they just disregard whatever you put? To add insult to injury, they wanted to charge me to remove the stitches, 2 weeks later. Of course there was no way in hell I was paying for something that is ALWAYS include in the surgery bill, never mind a procedure I explicitly directed them not to do. As you can see in the bill I uploaded, the follow up was included (20 lines down) , so why did they try and charge me for it? This place is a real shitshow, with employees who can't be bothered to explain when 12 teeth are removed during a routine teeth cleaning, and then have an attitude when the customer is upset about it. I LOVE Crossroads! I had been trying to catch Teddy, a burly gray stray cat, for five months as he had bloodied his ears, over and over, from scratching. I finally found him asleep in a carrier I had placed on the porch and seized the moment to lock him in, then called Crossroads. They were booked but understood the situation and allowed me to bring him in as a walk-in. They cleaned him up, treated his ears, gave him shots and even neutered him, knowing this was probably the only opportunity we would have to take him to a vet. (He's a smart cat. I doubt he'll go near a carrier again.) In short, Crossroads took great care of Teddy even though he behaved rather badly. He is recovering nicely on the screened porch and has seemingly forgiven me as I was able to pet him just a bit. Thank you, Crossroads! read more

Please do not bring your pet here for surgery...they are negligent! Our 13 year old toy poodle went in the other day for a teeth extraction surgery. Following the operation, and a $1,000 bill, our dog seemed very depressed, lethargic, and in pain for 48 hours after the anesthesia. She was still not able to walk, eat, or go to the bathroom by herself even after the anesthesia had worn off. She started vomiting bile multiple times an hour and there was a foul odor coming from her mouth. We immediately called the vet back and brought back in where they gave her more pain meds and oral antibiotics and said everything else looked fine. That same night we noticed our dogs condition was not improving and so we opted to take her into the ER vet in Austin. Here our dog was hospitalized for 24 hours for IV fluids, and the vets there said she looked very terrible. It turns out Cross Roads had given our 13 year old dog with bad liver and kidney function Metacam, which only dehydrated her and made her worse. Cross Roads failed to take into account her condition and age and gave her this medication anyways! Additionally, they did not even do anymore bloodwork before the procedure, they must have just gone off the blood work from earlier that month, which clearly shows her liver and kidney levels were elevated!!! We did not know about the complications of Metacam until the vet in Austin informed us about it. To make it worse her mouth was already severely infected, and Cross Roads did not give her any antibiotics until we brought her back two days after her surgery. Yesterday, 10/24/2021 our baby died at the vet in Austin all alone due to sepsis. I know our baby was old and frail but a routine tooth extraction meant to relieve her pain ended up killing her. They ran blood tests and said everything was "fine" only to release her back home and for her to die hours later that day. When we rushed her to an emergency pet hospital in Austin (same day) it was too late and (the original vet) had the nerve to call me the next day confused as to how she could've died. Be very weary of this clinic. Friday I was told my sweet baby girl needed surgery for a blockage. We agreed with Dr Phil Garber and Dr Debra Cunningham to do surgery, but only if Mollie Mae would come thru surgery and have a good quality of life. They started surgery @5:30 on May 3,2019, and it was finished @ 7pm. She survived surgery. We were told she would be happier and recovery would be easier for her at home. We picked her up at 1pm on Saturday. Within 7 hours we were in Austin, TX at the Emergency Pet Hospital. Her blood sugar was above 600, liver was not functioning correctly neither was her pancreas. At 6 p.m. on Sunday, the hospital called, Mollie Mae was in full kidney failure. At 7:45 Mollie Mae, my 8 year 6 month old doxie went to be with our Lord. BEWARE OF THESE VETS!!!!! read more

I tell the staff member that answers the phone that my vet will fax the required RX. The employee states that my GSD has to be examined by their vet in order to sell me the dry food I need. I've been going here for 20yrs and today may have been my last visit thanks to Jessie at the front desk for telling me they absolutely would not stay past 605 to wait on me to pick up my pet. I asked if they could put him outside the door since it would probably be 610 by the time I got there. She said no, that I needed to be there before 605 so hurry. I told her I left Austin an hour and a half ago not knowing the toll road would be a parking lot so I WAS hurrying! I get there at 610 and there are 10 employee cars and one patient still there, while checking out and waiting for my kitty, 2 more customers come in. Im livid at her 1 for threatening to hold my cat and pay over night fees and 2 for making my speed to get there in time. It's now 630 and 3 customers are STILL there. Look, this might be a pure coincidence but my completely healthy dog died of a "twisted stomach" after one day of being boarded at this place. The sad thing is that it took 2 days for them to notify me while I was out of town. Completely irresponsible and unprofessional. I opted to have my dog cremated and it took them three weeks to get this done although I was quoted less than a week. They kept coming up with excuses and reasons it was taking forever. I stopped in to see what was causing the delay to find out my dog was still shoved in their freezer and hasn't even been picked up yet. I was disgusted by their lack of emotion or sympathy over this entire experience. They even had the nerve to try and bill me for her boarding and cremation To top this all off, I found out that a friend of mine had dropped his two digs off a year prior and they both died while being boarded from exposure to heat. Coincidence? Your call on where you want to take your pets but I certainly wouldn't recommend this place for boarding much less veterinary care. read more

Went in for a checkup for my new puppy. I called prior and they said the visit would be $54 for a checkup and vaccinations. When the tech came in she said she was going to do a fecal sample, since she SAID she was going to do one instead of asking I figured it was included in the visit. Come to find out, the fecal sample was $30 alone. If you come here, be sure to ask about the prices because they aren't very transparent in that area. Just found out that my friends 2 dogs were left with this place for 36 hours while they went on vacation. They got a call that the dogs had died because they were left out all day. Unbelievable!!! left out in 103 Texas heat....by a high school girl who didn't even loose her job over this. If you think this won't go unnoticed or just go away your wrong. They offered to buy them 2 new dogs....I just don't have words for this. If you want to trust them I say good luck to you!!! I really hope Crossroads does something for them. While the vets are reasonably competent, the support staff leave something to be desired. Case-in-point: I made an appointment, very recently, to update my dog's vaccine package. I showed up, on-time, waited a half-hour, and then was told that the facility did not have one of the vaccines (the bordetella vaccine). At that time, I did express my displeasure at having not been called prior to a twenty mile trip. I was assured that I would be called, for a reschedule, immediately when the vaccine came in. True to form, Crossroads staff did not follow through. I did not receive a call about rescheduling my dog's appointment. Finally, when I called, the next day, the appointment booker wanted to reschedule for a week later (because, as she told me, she had recently booked clients solid). Given that I had kept my prior appointment, even as Crossroads was unable to provide the service, or notify me prior to my trip, my position was, given their negligence, that they should make a reasonable attempt to accommodate me. The appointment booker, Ashley, would not do that. What I found troublesome about Ashley's response was when I politely expressed my displeasure, she said "I'm sorry that you feel that way." I found her deflection disingenuous and most inappropriate. As I told Ashley, the problem was not with my "feeling," but with their behavior, their disregard of the time of others, and their communicative negligence. __ To recap: On my part, I kept an appointment for services, services that Crossroads could NOT provide, because they lacked inventory. No attempt was made to inform those on the schedule of that problem, prior to driving in to the clinic. At the clinic, after a wait, a female staff member made a verbal commitment, as part of our in-clinic conversation, to call me and reschedule, as soon as the vaccine arrived. That did not happen. When I called appointment booker, Ashley, the next day, and explained the situation, the response was not to attempt to accommodate me, given the non-existent follow-up of staff, but to shift the issue onto my "feeling," rather than to their very poor customer service. ___ Finally, Crossroads sends out a fair amount of promotional materials and specials via USPS and on the back of local grocery receipts. I always use a vet in Austin that I love. She was unavailable due to a death in the family and I had an emergency with a 10 day old puppy with breathing problems. Because they are close I called them and they got me right in on a very rainy Saturday morning. They diagnosed the problem and gave me the right meds for the baby. I am happy to say she is much better and can breathe and nurse again. They are great and I am very appreciative for their help. !! read more

After an awful experience at our normal vet in Austin, I called Crossroads to see if they could get my fur baby in. She was very sick and it turned out she needed surgery. They were very caring and understanding about me being such a disaster area over my dog. They took excellent care of her. The doctors were knowledgable and spent a lot of time with me on the phone and in person answering all my questions. The vet techs/nurses/front desk staff were kind, caring and understanding. You really can't ask more of a vet. All of my babies will be going here from now on and my mother(who went with me on a visit) is even considering driving from Lakeway to take her fur babies here as well. read more

I have always felt that my pets received excellent care here. All of the staff has always been helpful and polite as well. It's when things are tough that you realize what you are dealing with. The night of the Bastrop wildfires, I had no idea where I would take my 2 large dogs and my bird. At 8:30 pm, I pulled in to see the lights were still on at Crossroads. I opened the door to see crates wall to wall, of animals that had been left there. They took my pets in too. I stopped in several times to walk the dogs and they were always so nice to me. I know they couldn't be taking in their normal appointments because there was no place to do it. I'm sure this was a financial burden as they also were feeding all the pets. They did not ask for payment or donations for boarding all these pets. Wow, what a way to give back to the community when we needed it most. Crossroads, you rock! read more

I thought my dog had a UTI. Dr@ Crossroads decided my dog had a probable cancerous tumor in the vaginal region. That dx costs over 200.00 bucks. The next day we were sent to a specialist in Austin which costs 750.00. Dx was a UTI. read more

I took my 11 month old puppy here today. There was a waiting room full of people with their dogs and the front desk asked if I minded leaving her as a drop off. With little options, I left Tallulah there. After a few days of diarrhea, I was sufficiently freaked out. In three hours, they had run their tests and called me back letting me know she could come home. Dr. Maynard was awesome. Totally knowledgeable and very detailed in his explanation as to what was going on. Being new to the area, I was really concerned about bringing my dog here. But after experiencing their service first-hand, I gotta say that the previous reviews are out-dated and in no way reflect the service of the current staff of this place. If your baby is sick ... go see Dr. Maynard. This dude gets my vote. read more
