I had to stay overnight in San Antonio due to some personal errands that bled into work events, so I figured I should at least "pamper" myself with a stay at a nice hotel, especially one where I now have loyalty status! My newest hobby is checking out the Canopy and Tapestry collection of hotels by Hilton, since they tend to be within the boutique genre of hotels, carrying their own themes based on the location they are in. Estancia del Norte definitely had Mexican-inspired influences throughout the lobby, all the way into the rooms. The hotel itself is situated amongst various hotels close to the airport. It reminded me of Embassy Suites actually, as I took the elevator up to my room and walked through some of the hallways. My room was clean and fresh upon arrival, and my two complimentary water bottles were on the hefty side (not the typical Arrowhead type bottles!). The bathroom countertop was long and the bathroom overall was comfortably clean. The bed sheets and pillowcases might feel on the "rougher" side to some, but I actually found them to be comfy. I wonder if that was part of the rustic aesthetic? My favorite part of my stay was breakfast! I was able to redeem my food and beverage credit for a plate of eggs benedict with house potatoes. It definitely would have been too pricey without the credit. The plate, plus drip coffee and tip, minus my credit, ended up being $13. For my one-night stay, it was definitely one of my better stays in San Antonio. Will also try to opt for this hotel for future work and personal trips in the area!

BM in the toilet. It doesn't look like much, but it's disgusting when you've just checked in.

Shortly after checking in, I noticed that the commode had not been cleaned properly. I alerted the front desk, and I was assured that someone would come up to address the issue. However, hours passed and no one arrived. Later, I responded to a message from Kenya at the front desk, informing her that the issue remained unresolved. I also noted several other concerns in the room: the Kleenex box had a decorative flower design on top, but there were no tissues inside; there were no coffee cups provided; and the shower rug was missing. Overall, the room lacked the attention to detail I would expect. It appeared that the room had not been thoroughly or thoughtfully prepared for a guest's arrival. The pictures on the website definitely did the property justice. This is an older facility and it's probably time for some upgrades.

Stayed at this hotel for a work trip. Very pleasantly surprised for how close it was to the airport. The courtyard is huge and there is a pool. There is a bar in the lobby and has great food. I was surprised to get two free bottles of water checking in and two in the room. I walked into the room to a surprise of a cute towel elephant. She became our team mascot while we were in town. Only negatives was I was missing lotion and only had five tissues in my room. Some of my coworkers were missing soap all together. It was quickly rectified but still a small negative. The rooms were well air conditioned but the hallways were not. I could hear a lot of noise from the hallway. Overall good hotel, just a few things. They have a gym and lots of conference rooms. Good hotel for traveling business people. Definitely will be going back.

Beautiful and clean hotel in a very convenient location. Great customer service, the pulled pork nachos could've fed a whole family and were so delicious. We also had some great cocktails.

It is a beautiful hotel w nice rooms but I was not too crazy about the layout of them. The large window is on one side so there is little natural light coming in and since the balcony is open to all other rooms, when I opened my balcony door, people were just walking by my room. The bed was very comfortable but there is only one small nuck that is the open closet without any light in it. The is a very strong light right in the shower so if you need to wake up early, that shower will feel like a 21 questions at a police station. Coffee downstairs is provided until 9am & there is a airport shuttle The staff is amazing

My husband booked this hotel because of its convenient location, close to the River Walk and Alamo and most important, its in a very old and full of history building. We both really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was clean with the most comfortable beds and pillows and the very fun and convenient breakfasts and dinners/drinks. The beds and pillows were so comfy, we slept for almost 12 hours our first night... The foods, buffet style, were good, with many options. (They are comfort foods, if you expect high-end kind, it's not for you...) The customer services were what we appreciated and enjoyed the most. All of the staff, from the front desk hosts, to the managers, bartender (Annette), food service group... everyone was so friendly, nice, and welcoming. *The only "issue" that we experienced was the super loud, seemed like hours long, of car honkings, engines noice... of 1 night. But it wasn't the hotel's problem. The home team, The Spurs, won the game and the city was celebrating... Highly recommend this hotel and the services here... It was still AMAZING and left me wishing that I could stay longer! My King Room was huge and ultra clean and comfortable! Taking a break from work, I headed to the pool deck, which was small but sufficient and had comfortable chairs to sun in. I remembered an amazing redfish dish from Ostra, enjoyed so many years ago... I really wanted to eat at Ostra again this visit, because I saw redfish on the menu and wondered if it was really as good as my memory of it. I was initially bummed that Ostra was closed for a private event during my stay, BUT my disappointment quickly turned to excitement when I saw the same dish offered on the room service menu. YES!! It was as good if not better than my memory of it! Finally and importantly, the individuals working in valet, front desk, and room service were so service driven and friendly! Overall, I cannot wait to stay at the Mokara again in the hopefully, not so distant future!

In the lobby for checkin today, I had an instant headache because the fragrance was so strong. At that point they informed us that there is some additional fee per day on top of the already pricey room, a fee that they never disclosed before today. We continued upstairs, and I could hardly breathe in the elevator it was so scented. When we got to the room it was also heavily fragranced. I tried to call the front desk, and the phone in the room didn't work reliably. Our call dropped several times. They offered box fans for us to air out the room. However, when we opened the windows, a blast of cigarette smoke wafted into the room because it is directly above their designated smoking area. We asked the front desk for help, and they said not to worry, hardly anyone smokes in that area. Meanwhile we watched several people out there smoking almost constantly. They offered no other accommodation or help. Not worth it. Very uncomfortable and upset because this will ruin our vacation. Edit: 1 to 3 stars. The manager eventually heard our concerns, responding to a secondary issue with cigar smoke in our room after leaving windows open - their recommendation- to air out the room. They found us a different accommodation and made it more than fair and comfortable. Why not 4 stars? Because it took the entire first day to be resolved.

Being able to step right out into all the holiday lights and activity is magical. Ironically, because of the location, the boat tours go by about 30x a day you and you will hear the Selena bridge story about as many times... but that's part of the River Walk experience If you stay in a River Walk room - most likely it will be a shared balcony. It was interesting, kinda like being at the pool in terms of privacy but honestly a bit more separation would have been appreciated-even a plant. The hotel itself is a grand old dame--and it definitely shows its age. Behind the beautiful holiday decorations, the floors felt dirty and really needed a deep cleaning or vacuuming. Every time someone walked into the elevator you could feel the floor drop and shift. The adobe-style architecture is charming and floors not so much-they slope noticeably, and the carpet has divots and wear that add to the "creaky" feeling. Overall, the place feels a bit tired. That said, the staff truly try hard, which deserves credit. The hotel has undeniable character and doesn't feel like a chain hotel at all. If you can overlook the obvious maintenance and cleanliness issues, it's still iconic and charming in its own way. Ratings: Cleanliness: (2/5) Staff Effort: (3/5) Location: (5/5) A lovely location with tons of history--just needs some serious TLC to match its reputation.
