I've stayed at four- and five-star hotels and resorts around the world, and Mokara was truly exceptional. What set it apart wasn't simply the beautiful hotel or location -- it was the level of personal care. Ariel at the concierge desk was wonderful. She helped arrange safe airport transportation for my friend when she arrived before me and, when my flight was significantly delayed, made sure she could check in without me. Being stuck traveling and knowing she was in good hands was invaluable. We were welcomed with a personal note, fruit, flowers and champagne, and then surprised with more birthday treats during our spa day. Those thoughtful details made the entire stay feel special. And the SPA! Easily one of the best I've ever visited. Being able to truly relax before and after our treatments -- especially in the beautiful post-treatment lounge -- made it an experience rather than simply a massage appointment. Jessica gave me what was quite literally the best massage I've ever had (and I've had a lot of massages!). Even the little things stood out: complimentary morning coffee delivered through room service and an incredibly kind and helpful room-service attendant. Luxury hotels can have beautiful rooms and impressive amenities. What made Mokara exceptional was how genuinely cared for we felt from beginning to end. The personal touches made all the difference. I first stayed at the Mokara over 10 years ago. I remembered it being exceptional, so decided to stay here again on this most recent visit to San Antonio. It was still AMAZING and left me wishing that I could stay longer! My King Room was huge and ultra clean and comfortable! Taking a break from work, I headed to the pool deck, which was small but sufficient and had comfortable chairs to sun in. I remembered an amazing redfish dish from Ostra, enjoyed so many years ago... I really wanted to eat at Ostra again this visit, because I saw redfish on the menu and wondered if it was really as good as my memory of it. I was initially bummed that Ostra was closed for a private event during my stay, BUT my disappointment quickly turned to excitement when I saw the same dish offered on the room service menu. YES!! It was as good if not better than my memory of it! Finally and importantly, the individuals working in valet, front desk, and room service were so service driven and friendly! Overall, I cannot wait to stay at the Mokara again in the hopefully, not so distant future! read more

What an amazing day! Everyone should be having a spa day while on vacation, truly what better way to relax when you should be relaxed, right ! We all work so hard, it's nice to be taken care of and this was a real gem for us! Everyone was so nice, the entire hotel and spa were beautiful. We did not stay at the hotel though. This by far is my favorite hotel in San Antonio Texas. The customer service is top-notch. When you pull up valet greet you and they're very friendly and helpful. Then I made my way to the front desk gosh, I wish I remembered her name. Marissa maybe? I can't remember, but she was an absolute professional. She checked me in and got me everything I needed and was just above and beyond top-notch pro! She held my luggage and text me when my room was ready. Also, Alli, who's working the evening is absolute professional as well. Top-notch service. Ashley who's working the restaurant she answered the phone and took my order. Another top-notch professional everyone with the name A is winning here. Last but not least Asia, she gave me the best massage ever. I've been getting massages for 22 years and that has been one of the best Massage I've ever had. So if you ever come to this hotel and you need a massage do yourself a favor and ask for Asia. She is simply the best. Comfort, the level comfort here is the best. The AC blows ice cold, the beds are super comfy. Everything they do here is to make your stay perfectly the best. They have fresh fruit and cookies and water scattered throughout the building. What a nice touch. The king premium room is super spacious and very nice. The spa, area is amazing. I really enjoyed the Jacuzzi, sauna and the relaxation room. Followed by the Massage. Everything is perfect here. I haven't had one issue at this hotel. The location is ideal along the Riverwalk. Initially, we received a room overlooking building equipment so we requested another. We upgraded to a room overlooking the Riverwalk and were really happy with the room... overall. The lobby and hotel are stunning, staff are amazing and extremely helpful. The coffee in the room was delicious and the shampoos and soaps were luxurious. Just a note: you will hear people all night long walking along the Riverwalk if you choose a room on that side. The restroom had the previous resident's hair on the bathroom floor and a bit of paper trash that got missed. I was a bit disappointed that the jets didn't work in the giant bathtub.My neighbor's children were quite loud and I could hear them all night through the adjoining door. That was just this experience, I would definitely still visit again if in the area. read more

A couples birthday trip was A+ at Mokara. We flew in from Minnesota, arrived at 10am. They had our room ready. They went over and above for that. That alone will make us come back. The general manager talked to us heard it was my birthday and we received a bottle of champagne, fruit and a little cake piece to our room. So special. We enjoyed the pool and the poolside drink service on the weekends. This hotel was right on the Riverwalk. The hotel is beautiful and smells so good. The spa is complimentary and Ahhhhhhmazing. We had a great stay here even with several hiccups ( we were called the night before to say that our large suite we booked was over sold and they would put us in a smaller suite however, when we got there the room we were giving was more like a regular sized room, we had to get a roll away bed as we were 2 non coupled ladies traveling together ,spa credit mix up, room rate not discounted properly due to the down grade) The concierge Shannon Rene was fabulous! Just an overall joy and huge help, as I was speaking to her another guest interrupted to say how grateful she was to Shannon for her arranging a surprise for one the guest's loved one. She definitely represent the hotel exceptionally. We had amazing spa treatments and Jessica my massage therapist really elevated my experience with her deep tissue massage that was truly deep tissue. I enjoyed all the amenities that were offered including the rooftop pool, fitness area and all the various rooms at the spa. Perfect location , valet was quick and efficient. My husband and I were really excited for this trip because it was the first step of our honeymoon. We got married on November 8th, and with everything going on in life and work, we decided to treat ourselves and celebrate in stages. This was our first time staying at a luxury hotel like this, so we were looking forward to the experience. From the beginning, the staff made a wonderful impression. The first two valet attendants we met were so friendly and helpful, directing us where to park. Then we met Shannon at the concierge desk, and she was absolutely amazing. She has a real gift for making people feel welcome and comfortable. Room service staff were also kind and professional each time we interacted with them. We truly have nothing but great things to say about the people who work here. Unfortunately, the experience itself did not meet expectations, and most of what went wrong was due to unclear communication. I found the hotel through TikTok and called what I thought was the property directly. It turns out it was a third-party booking service, and the information I received was inaccurate. I was told we'd have a Riverwalk view, and that our room would have a soaking tub with jets. We also were not told that the spa facilities are not co-ed. Because of this, we were unable to do a couples massage on site and had to go to another spa (Woodhouse) instead. We had heard great things about the dining, but when we arrived, it was brunch with a completely different menu. Had we known, we would have come for dinner instead. The brunch food was not good and felt like a waste of both time and money, though our server was wonderful and took great care of us. When we finally got to our room, at first glance it was beautiful--rose petals on the floor and a romantic setup that made us excited for the evening. But when we opened the curtains, we realized our window faced a brick wall. No view at all. After being told to expect a Riverwalk view, this was extremely disappointing and honestly took the wind out of the entire experience. So much of what we were looking forward to--relaxing in a nice tub, enjoying the spa together, taking in the view--just didn't happen. It felt like we paid for an experience we never actually received. If we had gotten the room and amenities we were promised, the room itself would have been an 8/10. But without a view and with the missed expectations, it drops to a 4/10. The staff was wonderful, and none of this reflects on them. However, the lack of accurate information and the mismatch between what we thought we were booking and what we actually received made the stay disappointing overall. I wish we could have had the full experience to give a proper review, but we didn't, and that's what made this stay feel like a waste of money instead of a celebratory honeymoon moment. read more

We loved this hotel. It's on the River walk but a world apart! Beautiful interior, with large lovely rooms. Everyone was incredibly friendly, from Nicole (I think) at the front desk to our wonderful housekeeper Eva. We had a small balcony overlooking the river from our 3rd floor room, which was fun to sit on in the evening to watch the night life go by. The shower had amazing water pressure, the bed was so comfortable (we actually looked at the label, and ordered the same pillows) and the amenities were great. Valet parking was easy, just call down for the car. The spa is free to use for hotel guests, and I had a relaxing few hours using the steam rooms & hot tub, and then just relaxing in the quiet room with a couch and soft blanket. Really enjoyed our stay. The vibe is really nice. There is always cool music playing in the lobby & elevators. Also, so easy to get out on the river walk, plus it is right by a bridge so very easy to access both sides. Definitely recommend. read more

I love staying at historic hotels and Mokara was wonderful. It's right on the river. We had a balcony room and I sat out there, drank coffee and watched the holiday festivities. The only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that they only have king balcony rooms which was problematic because I was traveling with my mother. Maybe think about travelers who aren't sleeping in the same bed and want a river view? Overall the atmosphere and location are top notch. I especially enjoyed the horse drawn carriage views and Christmas lights. Love this place! read more

The staff restored my faith in humanity. I just came back from six nights at the Mokara Hotel and Spa on the San Antonio Riverwalk. I splurged on a river view room with a balcony and it was definitely worth it. The room was lovely and very comfortable. The public spaces in the hotel were also lovely. The food at Ostra (the main restaurant) was fantastic. Big shout out to the kitchen staff. Everything I had was delicious, but the seafood was the real star. Some particular favorites were the ceviche (nice and spicy!), the smoked salmon on latkes, halibut, shrimp diablo and the redfish. The shrimp tortilla soup was also excellent. And let's not forget the bar staff! The drinks were great. My particular favorite was the La Vida with spicy tequila. Yes, I like it spicy! :-) I also enjoyed the rooftop pool and the spa. When the weather was bad, I spent some time in the whirlpool inside the spa and it was lovely. The spa has a nice tranquil atmosphere, and staff were friendly and helpful. It's the staff that makes this place so special. They went above and beyond for me in a way I didn't think possible in this day and age, and I am so grateful to them. I came to San Antonio to meet someone for the first time (they were attending a conference at another hotel). We had several meals at Mokara and, when things didn't work out, the staff was so sweet to me. I got lots of hugs (after they asked me if it was OK to hug me) and kind words, which I really appreciated. They also wrote me a lovely card with supportive messages and a second card the day I left, again with supportive messages. I was astonished and admit I was so touched that I cried. Wife and I, 27 years, spent two nights at Mokara. We were closing on sale of our home for 15 years outside of town. Generally, I haven't been a fan of the river walk crowds. From initial greeting with doorman of 30+ years to departure, we were met with warmth and hospitality. I'm not a massage person but we had a couple's massage and it was amazing. I read another review indicating couldn't do couples massage - but we did. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel, one dinner across river at sister hotel, and all were nice and well prepared. It's pricey but was our expectation and not near other big city venues. Our room was spacious, comfortable and my wife loved the tub. I enjoyed the separate shower. Wife enjoyed the relaxation room. It was clear throughout our stay that the staff was concerned with our experience but not pretentious. Despite a closed party at the basement bar, Juan noticed me and quickly served my favorite drink. We had a relaxing visit, great amenities on site and great location on river walk. Christmas Getaway along San Antonio Riverwalk. We enjoyed a fantastic three night stay at the Mokara - Top Notch Service. The Concierge Shannon was outstanding - she actually called me a few days before our arrival to check in on any requests. When we arrive she offered us two glasses of Champagne - the front desk offered us waters and checked us into our room within a few minutes. The Entire Hotel Staff polite , professional and always had a positive attitude. A few names to mention are Donavan & Rick so friendly and helpful. The Mokara has two sides one along the street and the other along the Riverwalk. We were located on the street side - King Room - quiet. Bed was Super Comfortable, Bathroom was large (one sink). Our room had a Nespresso Machine, Safe, Bathrobes, working USB ports and a minibar fridge (you will need a key to have access and of course the items have a fee) After we arrived we went out along the Riverwalk, went for a drink at a famous bar called The Esquire Tavern (known for having the longest wooden bar in Texas) When we returned to our room the staff had provided a fruit plate - nice touch. There are two restaurants located on the premises - we only went to one along the river called Ostra. Fresh vibe - we had drinks a few times the service was Super Slow ! We had breakfast one time and it was decent - our server was also named Rick (very nice man) Note: The location of the Mokara offers numerous eating options and located right above the Riverboat launching area (from BBQ, Mexican, Pub, Steaks & Seafood) Overall it was a wonderful relaxing stay - with it being Christmas the river is lit up and getting around the area was super easy. Close to the Alamo & Plenty of Shopping. Horse Carriage Rides look really cool if your into that - see pics If it's your first time I suggest taking the Hop on Hop Off bus tour - it will show around the area within an hour and your can get a load information from the drivers. read more

The premier rooms were spacious with large, nice bathrooms. Mokara has comfortable mattresses. The hallways were musty and humid and smelled like air freshener. The elevators and lobby are clean and classy. Overall pleasant stay. Next time we'll request a room with a balcony. read more

We stayed at Mokara Hotel for a mom/daughters weekend after a mix-up with our reservation at La Cantera left us without a room, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Mokara more than made up for the awful customer service at La Cantera and cost less. Every single staff member that we encountered went above and beyond to make us feel like VIPs: valet, front desk, housekeeping, food service, spa staff, and even the manager that we encountered in the elevator, who later sent champagne and snacks to our room to welcome us and compensate for our bad experience at La Cantera. Next trip, Mokara will be our first choice! My daughters and I highly recommend Mokara to anyone looking for a spa trip where everything is perfect and you never feel crowded, rushed, or unwelcome! Other guests that we encountered said the same. We also noticed that many amenities were unexpected and complementary, unlike some resorts that charge extra for every little thing - a drink on arrival, all day access to the spa, champagne at the spa, and more! Service was warm & genuine throughout the property - from the valet service, front desk, housekeeping & restaurants.   We're a family of four - with two adults and two children traveling over the weekend for a family wedding.  We all felt comfortable & valued guests at the hotel. There was a small hiccup with our room description that Christopher Blaha at the front desk handled quickly, professionally & entirely to our satisfaction. Location is conveniently on the River Walk, and the sister-property the Omni La Mansión del Rio (previously, the St Mary's College) is directly over the Selena bridge on the other side of the River Walk. The 35-min GO RIO cruise boat begins right outside the hotel off the lower level. There's also a small rooftop pool with full wait service. We ate breakfast every morning at the hotel's Ostra restaurant. Each meal was excellent, and I highly recommend the plentiful bowl of fresh berries, the pancakes & the Roasted Poblano Migas. The smoothies are made to order & are excellent, too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Mokara to other family & friends. read more

Thanks to the travel program of my credit card perks, I was able to find this upscale hotel. When we arrived, the valet staff gave us an option to valet parking for $49 or we could park in the public parking for $35 per day. We decided to park nearby since we would stay in the neighborhood. The location was right by Riverwalk and 10 minutes to The Alamo with walk. The staff were friendly and courteous with smiles. They brought the fruit plate to our room while we were away. It's very thoughtful. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. I did notice that of of the indoor sleepers were dirty with stain. There was no mini fridge and AC was automatic so you could not adjust. You could use a swimming pool on 8th floor or the gym on 6th floor. They have spa service and restaurant too. Overall, it was great experience and we enjoyed the stay. read more
