My husband and I made a quick trip out to Esther Price so I could pick up a box of Buckeyes I wanted to gift a friend in Texas. The shop is almost like walking into someone's home, it's nicely laid out with wall-to-wall candy. There's a wide selection of candy and chocolates. There is a separate section with gifts and souvenirs away from the candy area. I got my box of Buckeyes priced at a little over $11 which I thought was reasonable. My husband picked up some chocolate covered pretzels and a bag of Red Chocolate Cherries. He said the chocolate covered pretzels were good, he just a big fan of the Red Chocolate Cherries. I sampled a few pieces of the cherries and while they weren't bad, they just didn't do much for me either. The cherries aren't cordial cherries, but dried which tasted fine, perhaps it was just the red chocolate, not sure. My friend reported back to me that she loved the Buckeyes, so two goodies out of three isn't bad. There was a huge chocolate Easter bunny on the counter that definitely caught our eye, but we didn't buy any Easter candy on our visit. FYI, we were told the chocolate bunny weighed around 30 pounds and was solid except for the head area. Definitely a candy lovers shop, cute and quaint. Don't buy the drugstore chocolate, Esther Price has some nice treats. read more

I haven't been in Esther Price in years. I was driving by and pulled in on a whim. I only looked around the candy shop but there's a gift shop too. I found the Non Pariels I was looking for and grabbed some fudge too. I've never had their fudge before and it's creamy, delicious sweetness! The shop is cute and the staff were friendly and helpful. Obsessed with Ester Price! Best part of growing up in the Dayton/Cincinnati area. I had the cream filled hearts at our wedding and all the out of towners were in love. So when we were back in town, I had to take my husband...KID IN A CANDY STORE literally. Not to mention they had a bulk candy sale, so he went nuts and we are still enjoying the candies today. I have driven by this place so many times and yesterday I finally decided to check it out. Now I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner as they have all kinds of delicious goodies! My son love the jelly bean selections (thought we were here for chocolates?). My husband love Esther Price chocolates and so I grabbed a few chocolates to satisfy his sweet tooth. Some of the best candy, I think, in the world. I've been to Belgium and France and had some delicious, beautiful candies. However, nothing has compared to the simple, handmade look and taste of Esther Price. My favorite is the peanut butter cream. It is either milk or dark chocolate covering, not some homogenized peanut butter cream, but opera cream with real peanut butter swirled in. I always take these home to California and freeze them to enjoy one piece each morning with my coffee. Heaven. To top it all off, the folks that work there are so nice and helpful. I get many small bags of 12 pieces each to freeze so they stay fresh. One time, they told me to just call in advance and they'll get them ready for me. If you ever wander south down Montgomery Road past Kenwood you will end up in Silverton. And chances are when you do, you'll see the Esther Price Candies store on your right side. Esther Price Candies is a well known chocolatier in Cincinnati, although their other four locations are in the Dayton area. If you've never been to the Esther Price Candies shop in Silverton or have never seen their products at Meijer stores, chances are you have heard their radio jingles. I know I have. Esther Price has many of their gold boxes of assorted chocolate boxes aligning the front counter at the store, and I didn't see anything less than $10, but I also didn't see any of them reaching $20. I'm sure at Meijer it would be a little higher, while you can also see all of their chocolates (including the more expensive and bigger boxes) on their online store. In addition to the Esther Price line of chocolates, both in the boxes and behind the counter, the store also has "mix and match" (D.I.Y., I presume) candies for $4.25, and other chocolates and candies. This includes chocolate coins, cigars, and lady bugs, as well as some Sports Beans (Jelly Belly "energizing jelly beans"). They also have many ceramic gifts, picture frames, lots of greeting cards, and items related to local teams like the Bengals and the Buckeyes. Overall, Esther Price Candies is a good store, but nothing too special like Haute Chocolate in Montgomery. It's pretty simple and doesn't impress, although their chocolates are very good (they have samples!). Let's be honest though, getting that special someone a box of chocolate is a bit unoriginal. Hey, I like chocolate, but you've got to do something a bit more special these days. If you do cop out though and decide to go the chocolate route, however, Esther Price isn't a bad way to go. read more

An order I place for the holidays had some shipping issues that caused my four boxes of chocolates to arrive after the holiday season. This is the only chocolate brand who's chocolates I know by sight. My mom is in love with Ester Price chocolates and they are pretty fantastic. Their chocolates are smooth and sweet and they make all fillings from scratch. I do love their chocolate covered caramels as they are buttery. This is a great family business and I would recommend stopping in versus picking up a box at the grocery as they have excellent offerings that do not come in the standard box. read more

I would give Esther Price Candies 10 stars if I could! Honestly, best chocolate I have ever had. Better than Sees and better than Godiva, no competition. A definite DON"T MISS if you are visiting Dayton and the surrounding areas. The chocolate is super creamy, thick, fresh and yummy. I have never been disappointed. Love the dark chocolate, and hubby loves the milk (I love it too!). Even my 2 yr old will say "more chocoloate!" Esther only uses the finest, freshest ingredients. It's a local product and has continued to stay true to its origin. Esther, whatever you are doing, don't change a thing. Love it! I have it shipped to California whenever I can, make a stop when I visit home (Dayton), and have had it at every speical occasion I can think of (including my wedding!). Really the best. Taste it and you will never want another chocolate brand, you will only want more Esther. read more
