Excellent food - I had the curry with a little dish of their beans as a side. Should have asked for it to be spicier, but the sweet and savory flavors forgave me this oversight and were delicious all by themselves. The sponge bread was very good. Understand that you don't get utensils unless you ask - you tear off a bit of bread with your right hand (left hand in your lap!) and scoop up a bit of sauce with it. Easy-peasy. There are napkins. Beautiful store, cheerful and friendly staff. There was a little language barrier for me, in large part because the waitress's voice was in the range I don't hear well; you may not have as much of a problem. And while you may feel worried and concerned that you'll order something icky by mistake, don't worry. Try the curry. Not cheap, but not terribly expensive. There's a little North African food shop attached to the restaurant. Fun ingredients in there, but best part is the crockery and the tea china. Very pretty and warmly unusual stuff. Go there. The quality of the food is spectacular. The owner is so friendly, accommodating, and helpful. There are so many restaurants in the area and we never get to try them because we keep going back here! We ate here for the first time the other day and there were eight of us. The food is delicious and I highly recommend it. This is a casual restaurant, although, it would be great for a date or a girls' night if you're looking for something low key. There was definitely a language barrier when asking questions and ordering our food at times. It was all good though, but might be frustrating for others if they've never eaten Ethiopian food and don't know what to expect. I deducted one star because I found it a bit pricey. I am so excited that I found this place, and a bit upset that I didn't realize it's been there for a few years. My family loves Ethiopian food, and we always had to make the trek into the city for it. This place is amazing and I especially loved the chicken (doro wat) and lamb stew (yebeg alicha). My husband roasts his own green coffee beans and I've been ordering it and paying shipping and this restaurant has a little store and sells green coffee there. This was the first time my friend and I tried Ethiopian food, and Ethio Beans sure delivered! It was recommended that we share the Ethio Beans combo, which gives you a little of everything. We also got the hot tea and an order of samussa. First of all, the tea was so delicious that I took some of the spice blend home with me (they have a small store too!). It was robust and flavorful, the perfect cup of chai to compliment the combo platter. The food was so delicious, as was the extra spice powder that came on the side. I was delighted to find Ethiopian dining here in the western suburbs of Chicago. The food is delicious, the owner/server is so hospital and kind, injera is freshly made (and they sell it too), and everything was just delicious. We had a convo platter with several vegetables, beef tibs, chicken curry dish, pork dish, and we also ordered beef kitfo, one of my favorites. All the flavors are awesome and if you take home leftovers they are just as good the second time around, even reheated. The spices and flavors seep even deeper into the injera and it's deep flavor with each bite. I can't wait to come back! The dining area is on one side and the middle is a coffee/lounge area where they do the coffee ceremony with incense. To the right side is an adjoining store with specialty goods and foods imported from Ethiopia and the Middle East. Everything from spices, Teff flour, beans, to clothing and guitars. They have a vegetarian plate available, AND you can pick up some coffee beans (whole or ground, roasted on premises) an addition to Ethiopian groceries, plus a selection of jewelry and embroidered clothing. The lentil curry was delicious and I liked the cabbage (not usually a fan). The injer (powdered broad beans or chickpeas in a spicy tomato sauce - the only other veg item on the menu besides the veggie combo) is also worthy of note. Great to finally be able to buy teff flour; I've seen the occasional recipe calling for it but had no clue where to actually get it. They were also super nice. read more

For a strip mall place it's really nice inside and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Big plus. My dining companion and I split the "Ethio Beans Combo" and spent the night nibbling away until there was too little left to doggy bag. So much food and all delicious. The beef was a little chewy but no more so than many I've had before. Being a vegetarian for the most part I might be overly critical there. The owner, Brehane, is kind and was very helpful in answering the variety of questions we had. Since COVID still exists, she supplied us with individual plates and eating utensils despite that not being the traditional way to eat Ethiopian cuisine. Man-o-man! I was out in rural Illinois looking for the nearest Ethiopian or Eritrean food. Unsurprisingly, there was nothing nearby. We drove about an hour one way to get to Ethiobeans. It was worth every minute of driving. We got the combo platter, the special kitfo, and the tegebino shiro. All of it was amazing. Our particular favorite was the tegebino shiro and the chicken curry. The woman who cooks, waits, and hosts came to make sure that we did, in fact, want our kitfo raw. It was kind of her to check to make sure we were getting what we thought we were. Highly recommend. Next time I'd like to make time for the coffee ceremony too. read more

I went here with two of my friends and there is a grocery store and a restaurant inside but the owner mentioned that he is expanding to have more space for the restaurant. So if you can overlook the chaos inside due to expansion, you are in for a treat. We had fresh papaya juice(not sweet but very tasty), combination plate(Comes with chicken, lamb, beef and few vegetables) with injera bread and also an additional lamb dish and then finished off with coffee. So flavorful. Just amazing experience. Owner and his wife were so friendly and explained about the food, culture, language etc. I think this is the only Ethiopian restaurant in the burbs. This restaurant is really good. Great Ethiopian food, extremely friendly owner/ staff. Veggie combo, Lamb or Goat Tebbe, delicious! My only caveat is that when you order coffee, you get incense delivered with it. It is a lovely tradition, but when others in the restaurant order, the room becomes smoke filled, and the smell is pretty strong. I did not remove from my table as I did not want to be offensive in any way. To summarize, I would definitely return, but probably just for carry out. The food is wonderful! read more

I'm just happy to find ANY Ethio restaurants outside of the north end of Chicago (an hour drive in traffic for me minimum!) Ethio Beans is a 'find' therefore and took less time to get to with much less hassle parking, so that was good. Best tip I have on ordering is - understand the Coffee "Ceremony" Is accompanied by a pot of incense that makes a lot of smoke! We asked that it be put on the (empty) table next to us or it would have been overpowering. As it was, it was kind of amusing, but we felt guilty about potentially bothering other tables (tho there weren't many). I thought the coffee was good, tho - but also very thick/strong, so be prepared for that. Might order it again if I could share (bf wasn't having any) and I could get it without the 'ceremony'. Food was good, and satisfied my craving, with enough to take home for small snack next day. I LOVE Ethio food no hope this spot does well moving forward. The food here was great and the proprietor was very friendly. It was a treat to find an Ethiopian restaurant so far outside of the north side of Chicago. The injera was made with teff and had just the right amount of sour taste. We had lentil sambusa, kitifo, and vegetarian combo split between two people and had some to take home. All of the food was excellent, but the sambusa was outstanding. We could have been happy just ordering those until we were full. We had traditionally prepared Ethiopian coffee to close out the meal.
