Several recent visits have been disappointing as the vanilla and chocolate long Johns have been dry and once to the point where the frosting actually fell off the donut. A bit dirty and unappealing. Donut variety is okay, donuts are fresh but a bit on the soggy side. As if they will firm up as the days go by, and become stale. This a cute little local family run donut shop in a small strip mall. This is the smallest donut place I ever seen. You could miss it if you're not looking for it. Thus nice lady Rosie greeted me and started a box for me. They make small batches with a. Ice variety and their setup works. Rosie took extra care to line the bottom of the box with tissue and put the donuts in the box nicely. The cake donuts were fluffy and the glaze wasn't too sweet, Boston crème had a decent amount of custard filling and the glazed raised was par for the course. Donuts that had peanuts, coconut and other outer glazes were really packed on generously. There was no grease residue in the box or with the donuts. Their cinnamon rolls were a decent size and looked really good although I didn't try those. They sell ice cream, cold beverages along with hot coffee as well. read more

Hubby said this place small with only one employee. He bought a dozen donuts and he got a free one for buying the dozen. I liked the Boston Crème best. I'm shocked that this small, local, family business only has an average 3.5 stars. I have lived in the area for about 4 years now and just recently found this gem. I bought some Paczkis last week for Fat Tuesday. I didn't expect to find them here but I am glad that I did. They were amazing. I bought them in the afternoon and they still tasted fresh! The pastry is nice and soft. It was fluffy and airy. That first bite was amazing! This morning I went there to buy a couple dozen donuts for Social Work Month and School Social Work Week. The Paczkis left me wanting more and I was eager to try their donuts. Listen, this business needs the local business. I went in there with the thought that I'd be purchasing a dozen donuts for 7.99. I then realized that I was going in based on pricing from 5 years ago. A dozen donuts is a well worth 11.99. I was okay with that because you get an idea of the time and dedication that goes into making their donuts. That's what you get just by having that first bite. I will continue going back. I was a little confused by the ordering system for a half dozen/full dozen, but just selected full dozen and added the donuts I wanted in the comment section. The order was ready when I got there, and all the donuts were delicious. Loved the Boston and Bavarian cream, as well as the long johns and buttermilk donut. It was a cold chilly morning. I thought to myself "man I could use a donut". I looked on my phone and saw John's donuts. Me and the hubby thought we would give it a shot. We drove to the location and immediately realized how smooth and easy the front door was to open with a friendly "jingle" from the bells on the door. Donuts are a little better than Dunkin. The place is run by a ten-year old looking kid or at least he's the only one I saw working there. They taught him to grab the donuts with a glove, but the way he handles the glove and bag before he puts the glove on kind of defeats the purpose of using a glove lol. Food-3/5 Tasted like a regular Dunkin Doughnuts donut for the a few cents cheaper. I would not be able to tell the difference from this donut and the same one from dunkin. I was expecting cool. Different donuts from this place but it was the same. I was also disappointed that they ran out of blueberry donuts because those I heard are really good. John's Donut and Ice Cream shop is a tiny little place situation in a strip mall off of Bloomingdale Road in Glendale Heights. Having tried a few other somewhat nearby independently run Donut places and having found their donuts to be substantially better than the giant chain that is Dunkin Donuts, I figured it would be a good idea to stop into John's and give it a try. The first thing to note is that John's is very tiny. There's one small counter, a cooler and a random display case with merchandise in it. Behind the small counter is donuts, I asked for some recommendations and picked up a dozen donuts for my co-workers and headed off to my office. The general impression on the donuts was mixed. A few people complained they weren't as soft and fluffy as they're used to. They generally were favored over trips to Duncan, but they weren't as happily received as donuts from some of the other independent donut hole in the wall places I've hit before as well. This was my only visit to John's and I might visit again at some point in the future. While it's definitely a better place to pick up a dozen at than your local Dunkin, I donut (get it) recommend it over County Donuts in Schaumburg or Sweet Mornings in Carol Stream. I'll give it three stars and rate Johns Donut Shop as A-Ok. read more

I posted on a local Facebook page asking for donut recommendations for a birthday breakfast. Johns was mentioned more than once. I made the 15 mile trip to this tiny little spot in a very nondescript strip mall. Boy was it worth it!! Really nice service and the donuts were delicious. Just right! Mind you I could only give 4 stars because the way the dozen was packaged on their sides, the frosting either dripped down or stuck to the bottom of the donut in front of it. Next time I will ask for them to be laid flat and side by side. Note, there will be a next time and confident it will be 5 stars!! read more
