This place deserves 5-stars simply based on the price of the Dick Taylor chocolate bars. They sell them for $6.49; I have never seen a DT bar for less than $8.99 anywhere. As a health food store you can find lots of goodies here. I especially like the juice bar that makes fresh juices and smoothies. Good selection of meats, produce, and beer. A hot counter, salad bar, and deli make this an ideal place to grab a quick bite if you are on the road. read more

Only reason im giving two stars is for the selection of local, organic and nutritious/not so nutritious grub and goodies! Otherwise the staff and service basically sucks here! You typically can find them BSing in the isles with their co works or flirting with the rent a cop or stairing into space instead of doing their jobs! Last experience was at the juice bar! The girl was completely overwhelmed and made it known by being completely rude and snapping at her customers! I ordered 2 smothies and walked around the store for 20 min so she could make my drinks at her convenience and not feel so overwhelmed. After walking around I paid for my drinks and approached the juice counter to get my drinks but nope not ready! So I figured id sit in the seating and eat some of my snacks off the buffet! After they were all gone and watching her flirt with the rent a cop, curse and slam stuff around I approached her and asked for my order and she rudely snapped " what order?" Oh!!!! Will never go back to ENF in Eureka. Ordered sandwiches and all were beyond gross! One was ordered with provolone and white cheddar -- only got a smoked cheese. Other one had no mayo when asked for extra. Avocado on both was dark brown and mushy. Lettuce tasted dirty. Beyond a waste of money and all sandwiches went into the trash after one bite. Called to talk to manager and the supervisor blamed me that I "pointed" to wrong items. First off, I didn't point to anything and secondly, the employee who took the orders and read back the orders and everything was the way I asked for the multiple sandwiches. Pro tip: don't blame the customer who is paying beyond too much money for sandwiches that were garbage. Avoid this place for lunch! read more

The safety precautions being taken by ENF put me at ease when doing my grocery shopping. I must admit that my most frequent purchases here are what I would consider healthy versions of "junk food". My go-to items are the Kevita sparkling probiotic drinks. My favorites are the mint mojito, pomegranate, and mango. And when it comes to chocolate, ENF has the best chocolate I have ever had: Honey Mama's. This chocolate is sweetened with honey, and therefore has no refined sugar added to it. It is found in the refrigerated section, because it is melty at room temperature. This chocolate is to die for and I often pop in for these chocolate bars alone. They are pricey, but worth every penny. Another great reason to pop into ENF is if you're looking to grab a quick bite to eat, and don't want to go the fast food route. I can always grab some pre-packaged meal that tastes like a delicacy. Favorites are grilled vegetables, falafel balls, cous cous almondine salad, empanadas, and any kind of sandwich or wrap. I love the selection this store has to offer! I also feel like their prices are generally more fair than the Co-ops. (Of course, a sale on an item tips the scale.) I personally like that they only carry non-gmo, organic, natural, etc. products. No Pepsi here! Which I tend to favor because instead there is a bigger selection of healthier alternatives. I understand some people like to have the option of getting Coca-Cola or Nabisco products, but it's not my preference. Two months ago I would have given this store 3 stars because, as with many other reviewers, I have experienced rude cashiers and preoccupied sandwich-makers. However, seems like they have upped their game recently. The sandwiches are bigger, cheaper (no longer pay for cheese, pesto, etc. as an additional charge), and are made faster. Also, the cashiers have seemed friendlier and more helpful. Thank you for the improvements ENF! If this keeps up, I will change my rating to five stars. read more

The 3 stars that should be 5 are for absolutely every single employee except for 1. Being that the one star employee is a manager I think the lack of 2 stars should suffice. Even though it should be 1 star. I have been a regular at this location for well over 2 years. Over a year ago I signed up for the loyalty program. Ironically, this manager is the one who signed me up. But as someone who prefers shopping locally and creating a real connection with the people who provide and sell my dairy, meats, breads, supplements, barista needs, and produce, I would imagine me putting my trust into you would at least make you consider putting your trust into me as a customer. Especially after spending money in your establishment almost every day for over a year straight before going as far as creating a loyalty membership with the particular person profiling me. But then still being followed for another year to this day by the same person. Believe me I have done my best to look at all possible reasons that I have been followed from the produce section to supplements to cheeses to breads to the register back to where I put in my first order for my matte tea latte which I've done 100 times and paid for every single thing that I walked out with each time. It has become impossible to not take it personal. I understand this area very well. As a restaurant manager in humboldt I get that there are people to look out for. But everyone I have seen shove something into their bag while BRUCE was following and watching ME do my weekly shopping, looked nothing like me. And those people clearly weren't on a first name basis with so much of the rest of the staff. And clearly don't spend hundreds of dollars a month at this location just to be treated like a criminal. I know it's my own fault for trying so hard to become a regular where I'm not wanted or I am seen as a potential thief. But that will not be happening anymore. I will be retracting my membership and speaking to every manager, supervisor, and person in charge about my experience. I was supposed to be contacted months ago by HR when my girlfriend and I first decided to bring it to the attention of the higher ups and complain about this issue. But I still have not been contacted. I prefer to be seen as, not just a certified member of the ENF clientele, but just as a human willing to pay for your products without being treated like I have a reason to steal from you. As I have mentioned, I have no issue with a single person on the ENF team except for Bruce and I still, to this day have no idea why whenever I set foot into the store I have his full attention but I am never asked if I need help finding anything. read more

Prices here are quite high, and a lot of the employees are not very friendly if they get stressed... if you need to use restroom you have to get a code but nobody is every at the customer service area... and I asked someone and she got mad at me for even asking her cus she wasn't the customer service associate yet was standing right next to customer service booth. The Co-op has very friendly and kind employees and better prices on some items.... I would recommend going there instead. read more

This store has some of the best selection I've ever seen. I still remember when it was in the building across the way and was a fraction of the size. So great that they were able to expand into a larger space and boy have they made full use of it! This place is pretty much a one stop shop for me, although there are a few specialty items that I still buy over at the co-op (Plus, I just think the co-op is great for our community and I like to support it regularly as well). In particular the vegan cheese options are worth trying. I remember trying vegan cheese about 10 or so years ago and not liking it at all. You know, after living here two years and having this experience repeatedly I have to leave a review because I'm super bummed this has continued. Some of the employees here are really wonderful and kind, and a few of them make me really uncomfortable. Anytime I need something I feel like I'm bothering someone and one of the employees literally barrelled thru the walkway just now not making eye contact and forced myself and two other people out of her way on her way to the deli. This is not the first time I've seen her act like this. I want to sign up for a rewards card? "I knew you you were going to need something" as he rolls his eyes and says they're super busy can I do it later? Umm...the very sweet lady with glasses asks me every time I come in the store if I have a rewards card and encourages me to sign up, and when I finally have the time, you don't? Ok. That sucks. I bought something from the clearance rack yesterday (one of which says final sale on clearance items and the other rack doesn't) and when I brought it home and opened the box it was broken and leaking inside, brought it in today and had one girl tell me no, but another girl said yes, and call the manager finally after they argue in front of me and manager says yes. She condescendingly tells me off about the policy and the employee pipes in that one of the racks doesn't have the "final sale" sign on it....I mean come on! Even if it is "final sale" I'm just out $10 because the item was broken and unusable/unsafe inside the box? Is that fair? I get needing to have final sale, but it was 1. Not listed on that rack and 2. Broken inside and leaking And when I went to check out the lady at the counter said "sorry about your trail of tears," excuse me? Wow. I'm sure she didn't know that what she was saying was supremely offensive given the situation but that (sadly, horribly ironically) I am a descendant of two native tribes that were forcibly removed from their land and yes, endured the Trail of Tears. I had to bite my tongue so hard not to say anything to her because it would have just been pure anger at that point. Every time I go to the deli counter I get super mixed reactions in terms of being willing to help me. Some employees smile and help right away and other continue their personal conversations and quip at each other without bothering to look over at me. I really don't like to be obnoxious and interrupt work but c'mon, if I can hear you talking about your personal life over the buzz in the store you can at least come help me with my potato salad. Anytime I want an All my Greens juice made in my shaker bottle I get charged different amounts, and always get charged for 24oz which is great, but I only ever get like 18-20oz of actual juice (my bottle literally has measurements labeled on the side), and when I ask for cayenne they always put waaay too much to the point of it being undrinkable. I really wanted to leave a positive review, but overall I've had significantly more unpleasant experiences than I have had positive ones. read more

My family and I went here on Earth day 2016 and it was so much fun. It was our first time there ever. We had a blast trying all of the samples and shopping for items we never tried before. When heading south on the 101 from Arcata and Eureka, this is the last visage of a cool grocery store before leaving "civilization". So, as we were heading to the Lost Coast, we stopped here to get some cool brews (cuz you gotta backpack some brewskies for a camping trip) & a frisbee. This is a "Whole Foods-lite" type store. Limited selection compared to other similar markets. The prices are quite high without enough coupon and sale prices items to compensate. However my major complaint with this store is the staff.9 times out of 10 on average there seems to be a big issue with bagging.With the premium prices you pay for the merchandise most staff members act like its a big chore to bag your stuff,however they do it unpleasantly or inefficiently. Deli: Clean, fresh fare. Smiling employees (always a good sign) that aren't afraid to talk, and understand what they're selling. The prices are fair, and better than 90% of the other local health food store options. Market: CHEAP! I love that I can shop at ENF twice a week, and spend less than I would at the non-consumer-attentive options throughout this town. Be it Wine, Coffee, vegetables, or spices... it's all either outright cheap, or very competitive. Cafe: The cafe is likely why I gave ENF a 5 star. Ever wander up to a cafe, as something like, "Hey, do you have vanilla almond milk?"... and have the barista say, "No... oh wait a second..." then sprint to the back of the store, grab a jug of it, and sprint back smiling... only to reply, "Oh my apologies, it appears I do!"... then use that same positive energy to make your Almond-milk mexican mocha with a dash of Cayenne pepper (which they also ran and grabbed)? This grocery has the feel of a Whole Foods Market, except it's much smaller. Bonus that it's not a huge national chain. Produce here is a fairly good buy, especially if you keep towards buying stuff that's in-season. Excellent organic selection. Clearly marked whether local or imported. They have all the basics, including good tea choices and a decent beer and wine selection. Prices were more reasonable than we expected for the area. I don't know how could a small town like Eureka could afford to have this "whole food" like store here. Their groceries are very pricey--and worth every dollar. I got a small bowl of cream broccoli chowder, and assembled myself a black forest ham salad with provolone and beets. Very fresh ingredient. Their produce section, has veggie and fruits that looks like they were just harvested from mom's garden. All of which are different sizes and shapes, not the massive production GMO stuff. This is the kind of store where I could get into a lot of trouble! I was so impressed by the size and quality of store like this in a smaller town like Eureka. It had a lot of the great sections and selections that a larger chain store (ie: Whole Foods) has, but with a decidedly local feel. I mainly shopped in the essential oil, gifts and kitchenware sections, but the food aisles I did go down had a pretty diverse selection of products as well. The essential oil selection was fantastic! There were lots of single oils and blends, carrier oils in varying sizes, and other aromatherapy accoutrements, including diffusers, bottles, candles and sprays. They even carried locally distilled oils. The gift & kitchen section has some fun kids' items, clothing, handbags, CDs, candles, greeting cards designed by regional artists, incense & incense supplies, glass water bottles (with super cool graphic art on them), wine glasses cookware and utensils. Nearby is a section with local and regional food/gift products as well. I ended up getting souvenirs for my family here and would probable do a lot of my shopping here if I lived in the vicinity.
