*** STAPLE BAKERY IN PASADENA *** Funny how I have not reviewed Europane.. Been here numerous times (and to the other location too). They are famous for their egg salad sandwich. If you do not want the sandwich part, you can order an egg salad (it's just without the bread). I've thought about recreating it with the copycat version of the recipe online but haven't gotten around to it yet. The sandwich is open-faced style. The chicken salad sandwich is also quite tasty. Their macarons are bigger than usual. My favorite flavors are coffee, earl grey, pistachio. They have a blueberry brioche that is a must order too (and a raspberry version). Love the olive stick. Europane baked goods are in other places too. Since I moved, I get my Europane blueberry brioche fix at Monsieur Crepe in Sierra Madre. Basically you can't go wrong with Europane. read more

I've been thinking about macaroons since I had them at Euro Pane a few days ago. We tried hazelnut, pistachio and expresso flavors. They were heavenly!!!! Soft, chewy and just sweet enough. We can't wait to try the other flavors. Needless to say, I had to taste the famous egg salad sandwich, something I ordinarily would not order, but boy was it delicious. The egg was perfectly gooey, but it was messy to eat. My husband enjoyed a chicken sandwich. Definitely 5 stars for the macaroons. The reason I gave 4 stars overall is that the portion (in relation to sandwiches) was on the smaller side, and it was not cheap. The bill for 2 sandwiches, 2 lemonades, 3 macaroons and a chocolate brioche (which was tasty) was over $30. Friendly service could be faster, but the food is of high quality. The OG Europane is great, classic, nostalgic, etc. but the area is dingy, parking sparse, and finding seating anywhere there is a chore. Due to the tight spaces, you're always a couple baby strollers away from shutting down the place. Enter the sister joint across from Paseo. They've tightened up their act in the few months they've been open. I've never found the place to be quite full, which is good IMO, and the fare there is exactly how I remember it from the original locale. I've found the service to be quite friendly as well. Location is perfect if you're going to do some shopping across the street (there is a mall of some sort) and you get there before 10AM. I had two meals here: the quiche and the frittata. The coffee was decent but not amazing. The quiche was delicious but not served warm. But it did have a side salad so I felt $8.50 was reasonable and worth it for that. The frittata was okay. I requested salad instead of a roll and they did that, which is awesome. My friends got the beet salad and it looked amazing (and they said it was). There are a bunch of outdoor tables and an awesome looking wood communal table inside (plus some extra little tables). It's great to see a healthy option in this area if you are at the Pasadena Shopping Complex and don't feel like eating a fried taco. Since this place is walking distance from my place, I go here too often for my own good. I can always count on their strong almond milk latte to get me through the day. They are the most famous for their "world famous egg salad" served on a toasted slice of bread. Although I don't think it's the best egg salad I've ever had, I do appreciate that they use minimal mayonnaise so the pieces of hard boiled egg whites are still distinct. Their whipped yolks are generously salted and plenty, and it all rests on a bed of greens, a delightful smear of tomato spread, and their perfectly toasted toast of your choice (my choice of toast is always the DELICIOUS olive toast). I do crave it from time to time, and you cannot get egg salad like this anywhere else in the vicinity. The rest of their extensive breakfast offerings taste just as you would expect. You can't really go wrong with anything here - they got croque monsieur, frittata, quiche, sandwiches (breakfast or lunch), and salads. There's a myriad of baked goods for those with a sweet tooth. I used to love getting their croissants, muffins, and scones but since they have changed ownership their items have not been the same. I noticed the difference in the taste and flakiness of the croissants ~ definitely not the same flavor/flakiness as pre-pandemic. The website link that's listed here takes you to the OLD website with the OLD menu - which brings me to my 3 Star rating: I went to get a croissant to have with my soup for lunch but they were sold out so I purchased an individually wrapped ciabatta roll. I suggested Pain Au Quotidien and a friend insisted this would be better (bigger portions for the price for one thing). Instead there were literally large chunks of recognizable egg which just made it feel that much closer to its uncooked origins. And in the end, the macaroon was my unexpected 'cherry on top'. Bacon Breakfast Wrap - Mostly tasteless except for the few bits of bacon and the side of salsa. Once you've gotten through the bacon, the rest of the wrap and egg just taste like continental breakfast buffet at a low-budget hotel (which is the worst breakfast food to me). English Muffins - BEST english muffin I've ever had. This is the only saving grace of this place and only reason I would ever go back. Perfect sourdough flavor and so thick. I absolutely love Europane! I first went to the location on Lake a few years ago to try their famous egg salad sandwich. The eggs were fluffy and good. It was delicious!! My next visit, I ordered the smoked salmon on multigrain flatbread and that became my favorite item off the menu board. I always try to change up my orders, but end up going with the smoked salmon. It's that good! They give a generous amount of smoked salmon on top of mixed greens and top it off with red onions, chives, and light dressing. I'm not too sure what dressing they use, but it's the perfect combo! Their macarons are also delicious! My favorites are their salted caramel and pistachio macarons. There were a couple of times where they only had the fruity flavored macarons and the other location had everything else. So if you wanted to go there for a particular macaron, call beforehand! The new owner has decided to stop making the gruyere cheese puff. Big mistake. Every thing that he's decided to take away from the original Europane has brought this famous bakery down and has made it common and generic. There were problems with the original one but you could never fault the bakery for its elegant recipes and choice of baked goods. The gruyere cheese puff was one of the bakery's classics.
