I had a very disappointing experience. After my Mercedes dealer gave me what I thought was a high repair estimate, I came here hoping to save money. Jon initially provided a quote that was actually much higher than the dealer's price. Do not trust him. When I pointed this out, the estimate was revised, but it ended up being only about $500 less than the dealer's quote. I lost my trust to work with them as a company. Considering I had already paid $500 for diagnostics, the overall savings were minimal. If you're looking for a significantly more affordable alternative to the dealership, this was not my experience. Charged me 10.00 to top off washer fluid. Charged me 35.00 to top off DEF. Needed signal light lens cover, they could not find one,....i ordered from Amazon. Wanted to charge 500.00 to replace a 20.00 lens. Told them to check YouTube it's a 10-15 min job. Tech researched and they only charged me 200.00. I'm going to start off by saying that I will be bringing my VW here for work/maintenance from now on! The gentleman at the front desk is very professional and assists you through the process of check in and is extremely honest on what to expect when it comes to possible time frames that they may be able to work on your car. You first notice the sleek, modern design of the interior once you step in to the business. The only thing they are missing is some deep, melodic house music playing in the background. You check in your vehicle on a tablet. You are able to choose the make/model of your vehicle and can elaborate on what is the issue with your vehicle. The bathroom is very clean. There is a wait area with seating that also offers a variety of keurig coffees and teas. There is also a small refrigerator with water. Luckily, they were able to work on my car quicker than expected. I received a text from the business with a link. I tapped on the link and was taken to a personalized report with what they found wrong on my car and what they recommend servicing. They also provide pictures and videos! After viewing the report and pics/vids, I called the business and gave them to green light to fix my immediate problem. Honesty, complete transparency, and quality mechanical work is what makes this place stand out from the rest. read more

I have a R56 2009 Mini Cooper (which I bought cash for $5K) I new I had to replace the shocks. I hit a pothole and the car did not drive properly after that, service lights popped out in the panel. I took the car to be diagnosed. Despite that this was the place that priced higher for diagnostic in the area, I picked this place because I new they were specialized in European cars. The diagnostic costed $280 after all fees. The diagnostic was to replace the clutch for......$5.8K Ouuch! Ok. (Respect). After going over the report, I realized there was , no further tests. No computer readings or other recommendations made. On top of that I had to pay for a towing truck as the car now was not drivable. My recommendation is to network and find a good mechanic that is not going to take advantage of you or waist your money. read more

Took my Mercedes Benz in last minute on a Monday. My car wouldn't start & no other mechanic could tell me what was wrong with my vehicle. Frustrated because I'm pregnant and obviously need my car to get around but I finally found European Autowerks & dropped my car off on a Monday and received it the same week on a Thursday. The two workers upfront were super nice & helpful with the whole transaction. I was up charged a bit but I do have a Benz and no other mechanic in the area could fix my issue or even figure out what was going on with my car so it was well worth the 1k I spent. I would recommend coming here if you want your car fixed in a timely manner and are willing to spend a couple more bucks to get a guaranteed fix. read more

This is a very biblical company. Unfortunately, Their favorite verse is the end of Matthew 25:35, "I was a stranger and you took Me in." I believe when they discovered this car was broken down 200 miles from home, they decided that I was trapped and tried to take advantage of the situation. My VW Beetle needed a transmission pan and gasket. When I was given an estimate of over $1,200, I asked for an itemized estimate and was told the parts were $500 and the labor was $700. When I asked how many labor hours I was being charged, I was told, "we charge by the job, not the hour." I spent 16 years as a dealership technician and the past 16 years as an automotive instructor and this is the only time I have ever heard an excuse like this. Every shop has to have a justifiable baseline to explain charges. Labor time guides are there for this reason. The best deal I paid for was the $15.00 a day storage. I was charged $238 for the tech to push my car in, raise it up, add a quart or 2 of fluid and take a 20-second video of fluid pouring out between the pan and gasket (in reality the gasket was the only problem. It was cracked and leaking). They charged roughly $20.00 for 2 cans of brake cleaner and it was obvious that no cleaning was done to any part of the transmission to "pinpoint" the leak. No, I did not let them fix it. Renting a trailer from Uhaul, buying my own parts, and letting my second-year high school students complete the repair in one 90-minute class saved me the aggravation of knowing I was getting shafted and a little cash. Not including driving time and gas, I fixed it (as the shop suggests (new pan, filter, and fluid) for less than $400.00 including $150.00 to rent the trailer. I understand that businesses have to make money and have overhead, but $700 for 2 hours of basic repair work would offend any reasonable person. Maybe they take care of locals better, but travelers beware. Keep looking for a better option if you are seeking repairs in the Virginia Beach area. read more

DONT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! Would give them 0 if I could. Claims that they work on Mercedes Benz cars. Brought vehicle in due to a leak in undercarriage. Gave me a quote on things that were not broken at the time but would be broken when the work was going to be completed. ‍However, I still allowed the company to work on my car when I should have used better judgment. Quoted $5649.55 for an engine coolant leak. I paid gracefully. Walked out, and within a week, my car was leaking again. Took my car back, and then they noticed a radiator leak. Well, of course you did. Cause you thought I was going to pay you another $5k. Not!! Decided to take my car to the Mercedes dealership and was told the same thing (the enunge cooler) needed to be fixed again. Paid another 5K to fix the issue at Mercedes and repair some of the things that European Autowerks either broke or put in the wrong places. Tried to come to an agreement with European Autowerks, and they wanted to offer me an in store credit. What makes you think that I would bring my car or anyone else's car back to you for a repair. NO...I DON'T WANT AN IN STORE CREDIT ! I WANT MY MONEY BACK FROM THE SO CALLED WORK YOU COMPLETED. It's been like pulling teeth to get a refund. States that the company policy is $400. Still ongoing issue. DO NOT TAKE YOUR NICE CAR TO THEM.TAKE IT TO WHERE IT NEEDS TO Go UPDATE...No.pictures were available from the Mercedes dealership. I took my vehicle there three times for the same issue., to find out what the problem was and the first two I was charged a fee and said there was no issue & yet the third time they tell me they found the problem and it's gonna cost three times the over in visits $1000 never gave me in credit for the errors they made in false diagnostics never apologized the worst service I've ever received I will never go back I even stood there while they talk to previous customer and gave b/s advice, but I didn't interject. they had my car for a week to replace an oil cooler. I had a AUL limited warranty on the engine that they couldn't get to help with the 2800$ bill. couldn't afford a rental after hearing what the bill was going to be. they offer loaner cars on website but didn't offer one to me. After having my car for 9 day I picked my car up to be told the back window fell into the door and wouldn't roll back up. They told me the regulator needed replaced. They did a pre vehicle inspection which should have made them aware of the problem you'd think. What they didn't tell me was that they broke the seatbelt hand-off arm! Pulled right out its slot and left hanging. after 2800$ I got a broken Window ands broken seatbelt hand-off. I surely didn't get my moneys worth at this shop. If you want The warranty on your car denied take it here. If you want to get your car back with more problems than when you took it in bring it here. This place will definitely bamboozle you. The staff here are extremely friendly. I just feel that their charges for services are outrageous. We have been there 2 times and I think we have already spent almost $8,000 (maintenance work and 1 service/repair). I understand having a European vehicle that may have more expensive parts, but oh my. We have now ventured somewhere else. An example of difference with service is our key fob battery was low while getting serviced. European Auto brought it to our attention and asked if we wanted to add that VS another shop we brought our car for service, they went ahead and changed the battery of the key fob. They let us know, "hey we noticed your key fob battery was low so we went ahead and changed it for you at no charge." The other mechanic at a different shop provided us a detailed report of what was done (European Auto also does this). But at this other shop, not only was a detailed report provided but the mechanic took the time to come out and speak with my husband explaining all the things that were done. That is the difference of exceptional customer service. It's the little things. read more

Beware overpriced labor costs $20 light bulb with $62 labor costs - 10 min of time. When questioned he commented its the standard rate and he would normally check fluids etc but since I could only give them an hour I was charged as regular. So you charged me for work you didn't do! I own a 1983 Mercedes 240D (it's OLD) and I searched high and low for trustworthy car parts and people to work on my car - my search is over. I honestly feel like I've found a home with European Autowerks. The staff is beyond friendly and knowledgeable. They take the time to answer questions and help find hard to find parts. I've never been treated so well at a auto repair store. It's important to me to be treated well in businesses I spend money in and I've never been let down here. European Autowerks only works on Mercedes Benz vehicles so they are beyond knowledgeable when it comes to this make. They are very well connected and receive parts extremely fast, which means the work on the car gets done faster. They are independently owned which means they often fall below the dealer rate on labor and parts. More importantly, they don't make me feel like a silly female when I go in with my car. They are honest and explain the repair well and not in a condescending manner, which I appreciate. I feel valued as a customer and that is rare in the auto repair business. When you are a new customer, and your gut feeling tells you, a $255-355 fee for diagnostic for something that is known (clutch cylinder broken oil on right foot and , coolant leaking from front of engine) you should run away. If you come in with a clear dash, no errors on dial clusters, but you have them now......they will not come pick up your car. You have to do it on your time and dime. *They did not do a prediagnostic/of electric system upon entry. Yet, they send you an email of pictures where the part that did fail. It wasn't broken. Triple the price of part, price of labor is triple of actual job. *Told if they didn't replace the part, it would not have a 3 year 30k mile warranty. I only use genuine parts on my car. what do they use? Clutch cylinder replaced..........$700+ Coolent pipe replaced..............$500+ (Replaced six months ago) the pipe was good, O-ring recently pinched. $2 part (Not originally taken in for) Diagnostic port check...............$155 (Turn signal stayed on) SAM needed replaced .....................................$500+ - caused car to have a "Check Engine" Light on dash now Visa moment learned................run away, run away, and find someone more honest or moonlights from the Benz shop down the road. Hindsight 20/20, I spent more than $5000 over the years visiting this shop. I always had a gut feeling my best interest wasn't at heart there. From the air suspension, steering column, to the headlight adjacent were all issues I never felt were 100% resolved. The straw that broke the camels back was the $40 I paid to have the headlights adjusted. Yes I was stupid to not challenge them when I saw that the headlights were in the same position when I picked the car up. I went on YouTube for a DIY video and made the adjustments. Took all of 3 minutes!!! And I paid $40!!! The icing on the cake, took the car to the Autobahn in Hampton and have not had any problems with the car since. Morale of my story, do your due diligence and challenge any shop where your gut feelings are being triggered. read more

Crooks! I wasn't told up front that there would be a charge for diagnostics. It was only after I left my car there that they told me it was $179 for them just to look at what was wrong with the car. Two days later I get a call saying the estimate for the repair is $1142.34. Oh and my $179 does not go towards the repair cost! This is a bad air bag module in a 2011 Jetta. When you Google the cost of this repair it should be around $600-$700. I would not recommend anyone go to this shop for service. Now I am out $200 and have not had the car for several days. Just a horrible experience overall. My first call to another repair shop, the person told me that they would do a free diagnostic and if it is indeed a bad sensor the repair would be around $600-$700 (Exactly what all of the reviews on Google said it would be). The whole reason I took my car in is because I knew it would not pass inspection with this issue. I asked that they do an inspection after the repair. I never approved the repair and they did the inspection anyways and charged me $20 more for that. I said I would not pay that and they said if I didn't I would not get my car (Over $20 they were going to keep my car). I told Ramel that they are crooks and he can go F*** himself and he had the nerve to say the exact same thing back to me after all the wrong they have done. Way to take advantage of a customer! Also, way to act professional in telling your customer that they can go f*** themselves. Regarding business owners response: He never spoke with me personally and refuses to do so. Does not take responsibility for any actions on their part. Charging me $20 for a service that was not approved and the fact that his employee cussed at me as well. I am not "entitled" as he states. Took my Mercedes S430 in last week and these folks were able to diagnosis and fix a problem that two other mechanics could not solve (including one who was a long time Mercedes mechanic). They also found another issue with my suspension which needed to be addressed. No they are not cheap, but the dealership charges more, and the work is performed well by knowledgeable mechanics. Jordan kept me informed of progress and sent pics to my cell phone documenting what needed to be done. I also got a free diagnostic service sent to me phone as well. By far the most knowledgeable and price-competitive of the independent Benz repair shops I've found on the Southside, and without a doubt the nicest and most pleasant folks to deal with that I've found in any repair shop in Tidewater. Gary and Chuck started this operation over 20 years ago now, and, along with Rebecca at the front desk, they still have a hand in every repair that goes through here, no matter how small. You want/need to talk to the technician that'll be fixing your car? No problem. You want to talk with him for a half-hour? No problem. You want them to save the old parts, and spend another half-hour looking at them with the technician, to really understand what went wrong? Definitely no problem. I've been taking my Benzes to European Autowerks for routine maintenance and the occasional problem for over 15 years, and could not imagine ever going anywhere else. I brought my 2003 Mercedes car here to get something looked at related to the shocks. They charged me roughly 125.00 for diagnosis, and I was told I needed to pay 1080.00 to get the rear suspension accumulators replaced as well as a bleeding procedure done. I agreed to do this and was told they needed to order the parts and it would be completed the following day. At the same time I told them I would like an inspection done to which they agreed. The following day they were waiting for the parts which were not received by late morning, and I was told the car would be ready for pick up that afternoon. They ultimately did the repair and inspection. They returned with inspection issues totaling in roughly 2800.00. They did the inspection after the initial repair. This is a company that does not want repeat customers. As experts I would expect them to do the inspection first especially since they had time (car dropped off 9 am the day before and repair not started until the following day in the afternoon) and say "hey you need 4000.00 dollars in repairs" to which I would not have had this car fixed. Knowing full well the car is almost is 20 years old, they should have done the inspection first which they had ample time. We have gone to them for a few jobs and this will be the absolute last time they get our business. I will refer people away from this company. read more

Took my vehicle in for an inspection and they said I needed $2000.00 in repairs to pass inspection. Needless to say they rejected it. I then took my vehicle to another mechanic to fix the problems, and it turned out that there was nothing wrong with it. So I took it to another Inspection station and it passed with no problems. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. They are dishonest and unprofessional. If you do take your car in to get it checked out, get a second opinion before you allow them to touch your vehicle. I wouldn't let them put air in my tires. They are crooks. Glad I can give a rating of 0. My experience with this shop is horrible. Both the owner (Eric) and the manager (Jordan) are very rude and pushy business people who just make you spend on repairs for where there is no need of actual repair needed on your vehicle. I went for a front brake check on my audi and they did a multi point inspection on it and suggested me to get 4 urgent repairs on my vehicle. Out of 4, where they actually suggested me for rear wheel brake replacement while I went for front brake issues.Moreover, thier prices are actually more than audi dealership prices. The actual reason why i went to them since to avoid dealer pricing. Since I felt doubtful of their service , I have the brakes inspected at another shop and they did recommeneded and completed the front brake replacement at very good price than these people and with much good customer service. While I picking the vehicle after the inspection, Jordan told me to pay the inspection fee (~65$) while they told the brake inspection is no cost. When I contacted them with what they recommended vs what was actually fixed from other shop, Jordan was covering up his mess that he made story to make me spend at their shop. All the time, Jordan was very rude and arrogant , will throw all the tantrums. Even I reported the rudeness to the owner while I came to get my refund on the inspection fee and he didn't bother to say anything to me and just kept silent and no hospitality. I am in town temporarily and started having issues with my 2000 SLK. I didn't want to go to a "stealership" and came across EA on Google. They had great reviews there, so I took it in. They did a great job tracking down the problems, communicating and ultimately repairing. They don't gouge on parts prices, have reasonable labor rates, and are indeed some of the friendliest people I've ever dealt with in auto repair! The service was so good and friendly it is almost enough to make me relocate just so I'll be able to keep them as my preferred shop for service!! read more

I intentionally waited 5 days to write this review to ensure I had calmed my nerves from this horrible experience to prevent from typing a purely emotional review. I took my 2007 Mercedes s550 in because it was experiencing hesitation issues. Sporadically (every 3 or 4 days) in the morning, it would give me issues starting and then once I got it started and drove maybe 1/4 mile and come to a complete stop, when I would accelerate to move forward again, it would only go about 5 miles per hour for about 300 feet and then suddenly jerk forward into gear. The mechanic really seemed clueless as to what was going on with the car even after having it several days. I went to the shop to test drive it with the mechanic present on about the 5th day but it started fine and only mild hesitation was noticed. Mechanic still felt this should help him narrow it down to the issue. I left the shop and got a call later that level 2 testing was required which would cost $351.21. I should have immediately declined this testing and picked up my car but I didn't want to wait another 2 weeks to get an appt with Mercedes. That diagnostic charge is more expensive than the Mercedes dealership, which is ridiculous. So they assured me the testing was very rigorous and it would pinpoint the issue. The diagnosis from the mechanic was a bad fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator which was causing fuel pressure or volume issue leading to the crank no start and hesitation from a stop. I found this very odd because I had just had the fuel pump replaced July 2019 by a different shop for $400. The European Autowerks estimate totaled $1055, which I knew was high. Especially considering I was able to get a new fuel pump from Mercedes because it was still under warranty so that wasn't even factored into the estimate. But I just wanted my car fixed. And they told me they were pretty certain this was the issue so I proceeded with the repair. So now I am over $1400 on this repair. They started the repairs but the next day, I receive a call that it would cost another $480 extra labor to remove one of the back seats because the button that move the seat forward did not work. At this point, I was extremely annoyed and frustrated. I knew they were attempting to overcharge me so I told them to just put my car back together and I would come pick it up. They told me at that point, I would still owe $540 but I didn't care at that point. No way you call a customer back for something like that. Its not my fault that a proper determination of the level of effort to calculate the estimate wasn't conducted. Its call quality control. Additionally, the previous shop removed my back seats with no issue so I found it strange that additional labor charges would be required. So after getting off the phone after arguing with the on-duty manager, about the issue, I felt horrible because now I knew I had to pay them $540 for nothing. But at that point, it was totally about principle. Then I got a call 2 hours later telling me that they would only charge me an additional $139 to take the back seat out instead of the $480. My initial thought was to just say no but I wanted my car fixed and was trying to avoid giving them the $540 for nothing. So after proceeding with the work and going down and picking up my car, I checked my seat and just as I suspected, the button to move the seat worked. I didn't even say anything to them because I was mentally drained and didn't have time to entertain this fiasco any longer. And I already knew before I went down and paid them the $1543.52 that it wasn't going to solve the issue because this whole scenario was just a quick money grab and setup to get me to come back for more repairs. I will never return to that shop and would advise anyone to not take their vehicle to this place. Truthfully, I am not used to being treated in this manner and really just wanted the nightmare to be over. read more

This was my review from before the ownership change in 2018. I don't believe the same value and service still exists there. I've told friends just to go to the dealer because of the prices being charged now. After being on classic Mercedes internet forums for years and trying to do most the work myself, I eventually had to take my car in for work that I could not do on my own. I went to 3 other import/Mercedes independent shops before ending up at European Autowerks. The other shops overcharged me, to include charging me $160 to take my car to Midas for an alignment which I found out about later, doing the work improperly even while I told them it was wrong as they did it, or just poor customer service. European Autowerks is by far the best Mercedes Auto Shop in the Tidewater area. They do excellent work and will not try to sell you on things you don't need. They are also very knowledgeable on the older Mercedes which I prefer. It took me a while to find them but I will not go anywhere else from now on. read more

If you have a Mercedes (or for that matter any car needng service...) beware of European Autowerks! After 20 years of great service by the former owners, I brought my cars in and found these people are looking for VICTIMS -not customers! First visit required only reconnection of air line to air suspension pump - no other problems existed. The bill: $900 and the part they said needed replaced was tested later and found not defective- but was replaced anyway. Second visit was for fuel pumps on CLK. Their quote was $1500. Had car towed to Auto Haus who did exactly the same job for $400 less including diagnosis, MB genuine parts and labor! Watch out for overly agressive main service advisor who uses "courtesy inspection" to sell extras not really needed - and is very pushy. Don't say you were not warned! read more
