Great bed, hit and miss with service - mostly great but some impatient and snooty. I bought the bed and don't regret it.

We have now bought three mattresses from European Sleep Works. First, we bought two mattresses for our daughter's bunk bed. The mattresses are comfortable and our daughter loves them! About a year later, we decided to replace our bed and bought a king size mattress. Initially, the mattress was not comfortable but we decided to give it more time. We waited six months before asking to replace it. According to the contract with the store, we could return it with full refund up to 90 days after the purchase. Since we waited for six months, we were worried that we missed that window of opportunity. The store owners were extremely helpful! First, they let us know that although we are no longer within the 90 days window, they would do everything they could to make us happy including giving us a full refund. They suggested we try a few things such as removing the mattress cover to see if that would make a difference. Once we removed it, the mattress was a dream to sleep on! We highly recommend buying mattresses from European Sleep Works. We highly appreciate their customer service. They go out of their way to make the customers happy. read more

I came to edit my review as I have since purchased a wedge for my dad from European Sleep Works... but my review is not here.. weird. I read in the newspaper a few months back that yelp was being sued for some weird tactics. Hmmm... I will try to repost. So about this wedge... I was in the store looking for a higher pillow for my dad who has recently had spinal surgery. He can no longer sleep without being at an incline and he loves his oxygen pillow so I was thinking I would get him a super high one as I know they come in several sizes. So I go in... and the owner of the company asks what I am looking for and why and he shows me this oxygen wedge that goes on top of the mattress and produces an inclne yet ends in a tail so it is more comfortable. I tried it out. It was really comfy... its like a huge oxygen pillow (which my whole family loves as stated in mysterious missing review). I decided this would be perfect for my dad and bought it and brought it over to him that night. Its been three weeks now and he loves it. He needed the incline to sleep comfortably and now he says he sleeps through the night without waking up to walk around, move and shift due to his back pain. So it is perfect. Gotta love that oxygen pillow stuff! So where is my old review from when I bought my mattress? Missing in action? I see it now below as I write this post... but it is not on the yelp page. I must repost it... you must read it... I LOVE this place! REPOST: (12/18/07) FIVE STARS!!! I received my mattress and slat system from European Sleep Works a few months ago and I love it. LOVE IT. I have had comfortable mattresses before but I really feel like the one my boyfriend and I share now is perfect. Sleeping is my favorite thing to do and I have finally found a bed that I can sleep in forever and not ever have to deal with a sore back. Its the best purchase I have made in a long time. Because I share a bed with someone else we were able to get a mattress that has one level of firmness on his side and a different level on my side. Perfect, we are both happy. I know that they have a slat system that adjusts to different bodies and genders as well but I know very little about that and like to leave all that information to people who know what they are talking about. But whatever they are doing... its working for me. Not to mention the beds at European Sleep Works are green and treated with some special oil that stops dust mites. Have you seen the commercials that say a bed weights twice as much after ten years because of all the dust mites inside? Have you really ever heard of something more disgusting? Gross. Really gross. The sales staff was super helpful. I went in twice, once alone and once with my boyfriend and was there forever. I am indecisive and I spent well over an hour each time jumping from one bed to the next. They didn't mind and answered every question I had. When I purchased the bed I was given the option for paying in full or putting down a deposit. I just paid in full. I was also given a warranty as well as a delivery date at the time of purchase. I was called a few days prior to the delivery date with a time frame of two hours.... much better than what I get from crate and barrel. Everything was perfect. I love my bed. The only problem I have now is getting out of it. Its fantastic. Oh, and I also have the Oxygen pillow from European Sleep Works. I first got one for myself. And then my dad. And then my mom and my boyfriend. I'm all about the dust mite free pillows made of organic cotton. Super comfy. Just like my bed =) read more

I was impressed by how knowledgeable, professional and non-pushy these guys are - they really, sincerely care about healthy sleep and develop their products with customers' health as the first priority. It was a pleasure to shop with a local business who oversees every part of their own manufacturing and assembly. They were upfront and honest and patiently answered every one of my questions about the quality of the materials, their suppliers, the manufacturing choices they have made and why. I must be the only person that one of these mattresses did not work for - since I know at least three people that love it. But it's been pure hell for me. The store professes excellent customer service - and although they did work with me for over one year in trying different configurations and adjustments - the bottom line is that the bed did not work for me and they would not give me my money back. When I asked for a refund, I was told it was "too late." Well, the reason it's too late is that I tried to make it work. I took all their suggestions - including the one about being patient and waiting a few weeks each time we tried something new since it takes a while to see if the adjustment worked. I really was patient.. super patient. And now, because I was patient, I'm told I waited too long to get a refund. I know at least 3 people that have the European Sleepworks bed and they swear by them. But for this unlucky soul - I'm out over $2k with a history of bad night's sleep to show for it. Whenever I heard their advertisement for the oxygen pillows, I had such a bad feeling, all of my bad memory came back. I want to tell everyone that this company is a pure marketing scam! Please don't shop there and make the same mistake we made: We were totally bought in to their promise, based on good Yelp review, we purchased two pillows at $200 each, and one of their latex mattress with organic cover above $3000. As for the mattress, it was pretty comfortable to sleep on, however every night I felt that my mouth and throat were stuffed with latex smell which was terrible, especially in SF's foggy nights. I called their manager, who told me that I had received a lemon, the latex may not have been bleached well, and latex has the problem when it is dump weather, smell is stronger! I wish they were up front about it before we made the purchase. This made us question about their whole nature and organic claim. We didn't want to take another chance, they did agree to give us a full refund since it was less than 30 days. However, we were made to pay for the delivery charges: we paid for twice, one deliver, one pickup at $200 each. In this case, even if they took back their bad 'lemon', we lost $400! As for pillows, after a few weeks, they felt like $10 synthetic pillows one can buy from Ross. I called their manager again, he said the pillow supposedly lasts for SIX months! Hello? $200 pillow only lasts for six months? What kind of product they are? Since we used the pillows already, he informed us we couldn't return! Now, we spent over $800 with them, and got stuck with two useless pillows! Buyers, please be aware, 'European' on their name is just a name, none of their products were made in European. Indeed, 100% of latex were produced in Sri Lanka. To put 'European' in front of their name, lure buyers with promises of Oxygen, Organic and Nature, European high quality is totally a marketing scam. read more

Bought the oxygen pillow 3 years ago and a king sized mattress 7 months ago and couldn't be happier. The pillow has saved my neck and my fiance wants one now. We marvel at the mattress nightly. The company allows you to switch out the mattress within 60(?ish) days for $75 delivery fee. As others have commented, the mattress that we received felt firmer than the one in the store (we also returned to the store to confirm this). We decided to change out the mattress for the softest one and we haven't regretted it once. It's soft but supportive all at the same time. And the slat system is not a gimmick - it really makes a difference. My fiance's aunt slept in the bed and talked about how comfortable it was the entire next day. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. My only complaint is that the king mattress has two separate slat systems, so one of the two of us sometimes ends up sleeping in the center, which is solid with no slats. Turns out it doesn't really matter - it's never uncomfortable. And the benefit of the two sides is that they are customizable. These beds and pillows are expensive but considering you spend at least a third of your life in bed (and the importance of preventing exposure to flame retardants and other chemicals) they are completely worth it. For those on a tighter budget, the mattress topper might be a good alternative. read more

After a long day looking at mattresses - ended up at European Sleep Works as our final stop. Unfortunately it was about 5:50 and they close at 6. But there were a number of folks still in the store so my wife & I decided to take a look. When we entered the store the salesclerk near the entrance said they close at 6. Fine - we just want to take a look. She went off to chat with another clerk. I looked at a wall mounted display and then asked her if we could look at a particular bed. I explained that we had driven from out of town and were trying to narrow down our choices. She seemed a little miffed that we had interrupted her chat - but proceeded to show us the bed. From there she volunteered no information other than to briefly answer our questions. OK - I can understand it is Sat night and no one wants to stay at work any longer than they have to - but that's no excuse to be rude or curt. Perhaps she could have asked if anyone could stay a few minutes extra to answer our questions, or apologize and attempt to schedule an appointment for another day? Oh well - we were a little underwhelmed by our mattress hunting excursion so it was kind of a fitting end. Also - if you ARE in the market for an all natural / organic mattress - check out the mattress underground for shopping tips and what to look for in a mattress. I really cannot rate the store as this should be about the product, and how can you review a product after you have had it an hour. i ordered a Nordic ll and I will have it soon and I will receive it in a month or so. I can tell you my local shop spent much time fitting me to the bed...but it is not even about that, it is about the bed, about it being natural and not toxic, is it comfortable. Maybe the folks in the Bay Area are too demanding and make the shop owners nuts, maybe the other way around, I don't know, but review the beds, pillows etc, not the shop. Name the model you bought so people can learn about things that you are talking about. Please do not throw the baby out with the water, maybe the shop was not as polished as you would like, how is the bed, do you sleep well, that is most helpful and most people say YES, the bed is very good, some say no but not many...so please forget the shop because some of us not in the bay area need to know about the beds. My review is a little different than the others. We live out of state, so we never visited the showroom or tried our ESW bed before we received it. I wanted to share my experience, because when we were looking to buy I couldn't find a review from anyone in our situation. We knew we wanted a bed that was free from off gassing and more natural than conventional mattresses, and were drawn to ESW and it's positive reviews. The price was also comparable/less than other "organic" mattresses we were looking at. I called in and talked to Katy in the ESW store. She was very helpful at listening to what we were looking for and then making recommendations (she explained why she recommended the Alpine C firmness for us/our situation over the others), and also explaining the shipping costs/procedures (but we saved bc no sales tax as we were out of state). Then was the long wait (it's always hard waiting when you're excited!). Now, she said it could be 4-5 weeks, and I think it arrived in a little less than 4. That was a nice surprise. The bed itself is wonderful. It's firm without being hard. It actually cradles your body, but is still supportive. My husband woke up without back pain for the first time in 3 months! We have nothing but good things to say about ESW - the bed and the service, so if you're out of town but are thinking about ordering one, I would definitely say to do it! read more

I have been having back and shoulder pain for weeks and suffered whiplash and a spinal fusion last year. Needless to say, sleeping has been difficult on my 10 year old Simmons Beauty Rest bed. Great experience with Ben helping me pick out the right bed for me. My current mattress is really firm with a pillow top, but I thought I needed firmness for support. I learned today that is NOT the case at all, you can have snuggly softness AND support. I sleep on my side, stomach and back (usually tossing and turning) so need one that conforms to my various positions. I went with the Nordic III with the pillow top, slats, mattress cover, new duvet (camel hair) and two Oxygen pillows (1+ and 1.5 to try them both). Will be picking up new bedding in two weeks when a new shipment comes in. Big ticket items but I am really excited to try the bed, but have to wait three weeks. Ben told me most people buy beds that are too firm and then adjust to softer mattress, so I went with the A version (he said this is a medium bed) and if I need to adjust the firmness, I can do in the slats and save the pain on my back and shoulders.
