Solid average experience. The food and service were exceedingly average. Our server was slow and not friendly. It honesty felt like our server didn't like the food or working there. Instead, she just repeated a script to us in deadpan tone. I asked what was good. In a scripted telemarketer-tone, she said: I like the jambalaya, it has chicken on it. I was like, wow, I almost ordered that but you talked me out of it. I had a burger. It was decent and big but nothing amazing. My friend had the steak frites and disliked it. She ordered medium and it came out almost well. It was flavorless. On the upside, the drinks (old fashion) were tasty and the atmosphere was nice (though not the amazing setting we had heard about). Really? I ordered a steak rare. It arrived black and blue. The Manhattan that I ordered with the steak did not arrive until the steak was half done. The "Hand cut" fries arrived cold and under cooked. The addled server was what one might expect at a International House of Pancakes, clueless, disorganized, and slow. Actually I have had better service at said pancake joint. The one star is for the huge scallops that arrived, perfectly cooked, atop a puddle of flavorless risotto. When we arrived the front looked empty and we were greeted by a server who took my reservation information. He then showed us to our seats out back. They had tables and heating lamps set up! We sat down and our server came over to take our drink order.. when I tell you the service was THE BEST!! All the waiter and waitress would watched over all the tables. When we finished our appetizers another waitress cleaned our table. They have a system down! The food came out hot and fresh! My husband got the waygu beef burger with fries and I got the creamy pasta with prawns! Everything came out GOOD! This is a good date environment. Prices are too bad. Anywhere between $10-$30! COVID review Overall an ok restaurant, nothing wows. Small inside and most of the seatings are in the patio. It's nice seating outside in summer, but be aware of occasional flies visiting. Service is courteous, but kinda wish they don't collect dishes when one is eating and the other's finished. Tried crab roll (ok, generous amount of crab meat), fried Brussel sprouts (need some more salt), cheese and charcuterie board (ok, nothing wows though). For entrees, tried their pork shoulder, which is crispy on the outside, so wish the meat is a bit more fat and soft, but the veggie is a nice compliment. Shrimp Etouffee is good, rice is nice in texture and the shrimp are juicy and bouncy. Chocolate mousse is a tad too sweet for me, but a generous jar. read more

Dined here twice over the course of the last few months. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves here. The ambiance is fantastic. Reminds of a New Orleans style outdoor courtyard. Drinks: I've tried the Sazarec and Old Fashioned both were exceptional . My wife had a Lemon Drop and a Margarita. She enjoyed them as well. Food: First visit I had their Fried Chicken Dinner It was one of the specials and it was delicious. It came with three pieces of chicken,mashed potatoes, and brussel sprouts. I'm a sucker for fried chicken. The chicken here had great flavor. The next visit I had the Steak Frites. Steak came with fries, au jus, and a bordealise sauce. The Steak was really good albeit a touch on the small side. Had the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. It was good, but the cocktail sauce needs more of a horseradish kick. My wife had the Risotto both trips. On the 2nd visit she added andouille sausage to the Risotto. She loved her food both times. Service: Friendly and Efficient. Drinks were always being filled. What a fun place to have lunch today. The restaurant was fun and the outdoor seating was nice and warm, as it was rather a cool and windy day. A bloody Mary I had was quite tasty and I'm afraid I inhaled it. Reed enjoyed a calmer glass of wine. We started with a dozen oysters from Baja California and they were sweet and tasty and served with horseradish, hot sauce, Mignonette and lemons. Reed had a shrimp Louie which was just the right size and I had Shrimp and grits for the first time. It was quite delicious but I think I don't wanna order it again. Super cute and quaint place we stopped at in between vineyards for a bite. This one was a winner in our hearts for a filling of the belly. The salad dressing wasn't too heavy like it can be at some places and the shrimp and grits were cooked exactly how I would make it at home. Taste authentic and gave us the creole vibe. Walked here for dinner from our cute little B&B, but they do have parking options along the surrounding streets. You have the option to sit outside or inside, we made reservations in advance, day-of and the only option available was outside patio seating which appeared to be the hopping spot when we arrived. They sat us in a table under a covered tent, but there is also a front patio area that's under the trees and perhaps a pergola. Heaters were placed overhead under the tent and I was comfortable enough to remove my jacket during dinner (low 60s). Menu is scannable from the table. It didn't fully align with the website menu I looked up in advance and some items that were listed weren't available that night (like the burger). We started with an order of the Brussels and the beet burrata salad. Brussels were perfectly seasoned and crispy with a little char. The beet salad was delish and perfect to share among two people. For dinner, I went with the Chicken Gumbo and the man opted for the Crispy Braised Pork Shoulder. I was expecting the gumbo to be so spicy, but if you like the heat then order this dish. Unfortunately, being from the south, I feel like my gumbo is more authentic and better tasting. The husbands pork was crispy but it was tender and falling apart. It paired well with the mustard buerre blanc and was a pretty big portion of meat. I was expecting the cabbage to be quickly sautéed and in bigger chucks or strips, but they were going more for the homemade kraut without the sour. I dislike sauerkraut so I like it although the soft on soft textures didn't provide any food depth. I'd order the pork again and eat it with the crispy Brussels and skip the gumbo next time. This was stop one of Mothers Day weekend. While service was great, I found the food to be average. The fried pickles were tasty but the shrimp and grits was heavily flavored of gravy and left little to desire. Take into consideration that I've been to some places with phenomenal shrimp and grits, so in that comparison, Evangeline was simply sub par for me. We also ordered the avocado toast, of which the disappointing part was the poached egg... it was rather a "hard boiled" poach. The flavor otherwise was on point for that dish. The Bloody Mary had an interesting rim that seemed to include a spice and sugar. I enjoyed it. Not one I "have to go back" for, but good. They use a QR code for menu The food is expensive here granted the few options available in Calistoga to begin with. And although it has pretty presentation, the food is mediocre. - Vermont Creamery Butter, Baguette: just ok - Whipped potatoes: fluffy but still average. Portion was small - spring risotto: pretty good and came out really hot - pan seared king salmon: it's salmon on a fancy bed of lettuce. Not over cooked - Evangeline burger: a solid burger all together, but can't tell it's "wagyu" beef as opposed to regular beef that's been properly cooked - Alaskan halibut: pretty good/not bad. The apples were an interesting texture and flavor contrast - ribeye steak: asked for medium rare, got medium. It was a little tough -sparkling sangria: good but pricey and not sparkling Overall the restaurant looks like a nice dining experience and an available option if you want a finer dining experience here. But all in all, the food does not match up to the price point. Great atmosphere and dining if you're looking for some Cajun/creole cuisine. We got the bread and Vermont butter, gumbo, and steak frites for dinner. The bread and butter was definitely worth it. The baguette was fresh, piping hot. The butter was so creamy and light! The gumbo had a nice heat to it, but definitely not overly spicy. There was a lot of chicken in this dish. The chicken was tender and there were chicken chunks along with shreds throughout. I really enjoyed the sausage in the gumbo and wish there was more! The steak frites was our least favorite. Got it at medium rare and although it looked good, the meat was overly chewy and hard to cut into. The fries were in tiny bits, not your typical long skinny fries. All in all, service was alright. Food and service left sooo much to be desired. I would never recommend this place to anyone I personally knew. The food has major culinary problems in each h dish. Peaches in our starter were not ripe which ruined the dish. The Brussel sprouts were under cooked and hard to put down. The halibut had no sauce and raw vegetables on the side no sear and just under seasoned. There's no frills here and overpriced for what we got. The risotto was the disappointment of the night: under seasoned no spread- risotto is supposed to spread. I had to ask for salt and pepper and no protein while the vegetables were frozen veggies added into a bowl of rice. The service lacked we never had a server who checked in and bring us side plates or ask about our evening. Disappointing. As others have mentioned, the prices suggest a far better dining experience than what's happening. We fell for modern branding on the outside of the restaurant and the (very cute) covered patio complete with string lights and vine-covered trellis. Service was fine. A bit disinterested, but otherwise attentive. We ordered the corn soup, steak frites, chilled cauliflower and some wine. The steak (medium rare) was tough and chewy, my knife had a hard time getting through it. The cauliflower was just that, a bowl of steamed cauliflower with no seasoning. And lastly, the corn soup was flavorless. It was sour and didn't taste like corn. We sat on the outside patio which had beautiful trees and lights. All of the food we had ordered was amazing. We started off with asparagus and burrata which was very light and refreshing. The fried green tomato paired really well with the pimento it came with. Never would I think to put those 2 together. My favorite dish of the evening was the duck confit. It straight melts in your mouth. Of course my friend had to mention it was my birthday.......I got to choose a dessert which was on the house. Pretty outdoor seating area makes you feel like you're away from a city. More so if you sit away from the street, which we didnt, we got sat fairly close to the sidewalk, oh well. We ordered an appetizer fried green tomatoes and a shrimp etoufee to share. The appetizer came with 5 green tomatoes slices and the accompanying sauce all tasted good. The shrimp etoufee was mostly rice with only a few shrimp and 3 teeny tiny hush puppy bites way smaller than the shrimp. Also, the etoufee sauce tasted like a mexican mole which was very disappointing. I'm also a big fan of sazeracs so I had to order theirs. From a creole restaurant, I would assume it could be nothing short of amazing and perfection but again, disappointed, not well balanced. read more

I love the ambiance inside the restaurant moody and music is really good. The outdoor dining is fine (it was raining). The good was the sparkling Sangria! Not too sweet and delicious with lots of fruit. The reason for three stars is the price - it was $400 for four people and we had the seafood tower ($101) three soups a burger and 4 drinks. This did not feel like a $400 meal the fries with the burger were cold, the seafood tower was underwhelming as they had 1/2 lobster with not much meat and no butter to dip it in, the sauces with the seafood weren't great and really brought down the seafood experience. It was shrimp, oysters and half a lobster - I was expecting something more (okay crab!). I left feeling like we overspent and nothing we had was memorial except the Sangria. Maybe we did a poor job ordering and should have tried more of the true Cajun dishes. read more

Chicken and wafffles: the batter on the chicken wasn't quite done enough so gummy inside (and if the batter isn't done, could the chicken really be done either?). My wife sent it back and got the salmon omlette. Salmon omlette: was just OK. Nothing wonderful or special or even notable. Biscut and gravy: I'm not sure who taught them how to make southern/sausage gravy, but they were not front the south. All biscut, little gravy and diffi ult to eat. The owner Cesan lacked the common customer service to visit the table to see what if anything could be corrected. Mind you the was a total of 4 people dining. After requesting his presence he comes to the table without even hearing the issues and goes into the long explanation about spice levels of the dish and his personal preference of the dish and how he lived in New Orleans. We've been ordering the fried chicken for music n the park for years. It's always been expensive, though what was once $55 is now $69, plus a mandatory 15-25%tip and tax. But at least back in the day, there was a diverse menus each week, and the gourmet sides were indeed gourmet, artful salads, interesting sides or hearty classics like Mac n cheese, and the meal fed 4 people if not more, and the bucket of chicken was full. Those days like many things in the Napa Valley, are a thing of the past. Last summer, it was pretty much the same meal every week, and uninspired at that. The price went up, but at least the chicken filled the bucket, and was standout. Cut to 2024, last night we picked up a half-filled bucket of cold greasy chicken, fruit salad that looked like what you scoop out at the grocery store, and a small container of potato salad, with cold Mexican street corn for, wait for it--$75. While these baskets have been a true sign of summer for the past 3 years+ they now represent another unfortunate example it of good things gone bad in the Napa Valley. read more

I have eaten here 10 times now, and it's hands-down my favorite restaurant in Calistoga. Tonight I had the delicious cheeseburger with extra crispy fries, and a lovely Pinot. I love that they have seriously heated the outdoor patio/tent. You can comfortably eat outside in the middle of winter. Service has consistently been excellent. We started with fried pickles, and they were way over breaded which buried the flavor of the pickles and the amount you got was a small basket. That's fine, not enough negativity for the review yet. I ordered the wagyu burger and my wife the eggs Benedict. Burger was ok, nothing to write home about but not bad either. The eggs Benedict tho ... OMG! Sauce was broke and thin but that's not the worst. The eggs, we have no idea how they made poached eggs looked like whipped cheese but they did and there were two colors of egg on each muffin. A very strange gray curdled look and a white whipped look. My wife wouldn't even consider tasting any of it. The fries on both or played were soggy and under cooked. Really just a terrible experience, we ended up splitting my burger and it was still a $60 bill after they took off her Benny. With so many good food choic a around, I highly recommend starting away and saving your stomach and your wallet. read more

This place is awesome. I found this place recently. During my wine testing at Twomey winery they recommended Evangeline. The atmosphere was fantastic at their patio, and food was delicious as well. They have a good verity of wine list that includes Italian and French wines. The service was friendly too. The gravy was lacking in richness of flavor and the biscuit was more bread than biscuit. The chicken was moist, but without much flavor to the chicken itself. The breading was decent tasting and had a pleasant crunch though. Online menu needs to be updated. They did not have granola or potato rosti. They are very accommodating and friendly. We were about 45 min early to our reservation and they let us sit down early. They have heaters outside. Our waiter was fabulous. Since we didn't have any sparkling wine all day we decided to start with a toast with mumm winery. We ordered the sausage and fried pickles for appetizers. Both very delicious. I thought the sausage had the right amount of spice, and the pickles were perfection breaded and came with a fresh dipping sauce. I ordered the pork shoulder, and it was amazing! I kept raving after every bite. It fell apart so nicely when I cut into it. The sauce on top and the cabbage and greens under all melded together perfectly, and the apple just gave it that extra YES! Little explosions with every bite, I tasted something different. I was very happy with my dinner selection. We finished off with Apple tarte tatin dessert. Also very good. read more

No breaks for locals-- how about... 1) free corkage fees on weekdays and 50% off on weekends; or 2) 50% off corkage fee everyday; or 3) Free corkage fee on first bottle, then 50% off thereafter everyday; and 4) First bread order free every day; 2. No table linens or white paper at least. Almost tipped over wine glasses several times and seemed odd with such a nice venue. Pros: 1. Service was excellent! 2. Price points very good. 3.
