This place is horrible. I went in with my mom and sister to get 60 minute full body massages. We selected level 5. All three of our "massages" were just an elbow in our back the entire time. It was so painful. They also wear gloves on their hands. My back hurt for days afterwards. Go to Little Rainbow Foot Spa instead. Same price and a better massage. read more

I've heard a lot of great things about Evan's but I have never been to any massage place so I had my doubts however after a stressful week this pit stop was much needed. My experience here was not the best but was also not the worst, also I did not know what to expect as I have never gotten a massage at a place like this. I don't think Evan's is bad, not at all...just misunderstood, literally! I had a hard time communicating with my masseuse due to a language barrier and there were so many things I wish I could have told her which would have improved me experience here. For example, having never been to a massage place I chose a medium intensity and let me tell you, if you knew how strong her 'medium' intensity is you would not like to get in a fight with this small Asian woman! Also it is a fully clothed massage which isn't an issue for me but then they placed this huge thick towel on me and I was sweating almost during the entire duration of the massage. Other than these, I have no complaints about Evan's. Their prices are more reasonable than at most other massage places I looked into. The facilities were clean and they do a great job at creating a relaxing ambiance with the music that was being played and by how mindful everyone was of their voices. I think there is a lot of potential here so I will be returning soon and hopefully we can communicate more clearly. read more

Traumatizing!!! I am someone who has had many massages over the years at spas and salons. My normal place was closed so I thought I'd give this a try. I was expecting a basic simple service at Evan's, after hearing from others who had gone here and said it was pretty good. The worker who checked me in seemed impatient and didn't really speak English. He didn't understand when I said I was a new customer and needed a moment to read the services menu. He pointed to my abdomen, which was swollen due to a health problem, and asked me, "You have baby?" It took two other employees and more conversation to straighten out that I was not in fact pregnant - all in front of the big open room full of other clients. At the beginning of the massage he was laughing with the employee working at the next massage table. I couldn't help but feel that the laughter was about the pregnancy discussion awkwardness, and this made me more uncomfortable. Then he couldn't understand when I told him my neck was the area I needed the most help with and I had other areas on my body that I needed to avoid. The pressure was too deep, even though I'd marked medium pressure on the form and even after I stopped him and asked him to be more gentle. He touched the areas I wanted him to avoid. On top of this all, he was coughing and I worried about catching a cold from him. Also, the massage table head cradle and linens smelled mildewy. I immediately showered and washed my clothes when I got home. Not relaxing at all. Truly terrible!!! read more

Amazing massage, at a great price. I did the 30 minutes full body with a 30 minute foot massage. The only negatives I would have is that it is difficult to communicate with the person giving you a massage and the music, they played the same song over and over again. I dismissed the lack of communication as, I came here knowing they know what they are doing and I let her do her thing. She did and she focused on areas where she felt I needed it most. Massage servics are wonderful! However, both times I have been the restroom has been occupied so I have therefore used the staff restroom. Both times there was no soap in the staff restroom or instruction of proper hand washing before working- which made me weary! I had a 30/30 massage... body and feet. I don't detect any of them speak much or any English, and like another reviewer here, I am concerned for their welfare in that I think it would be impossible for them to live in the SB area if a business charges so little for a massage. I am curious as to the legality of them working here. And if some of them aren't working legally, I feel sorry that they are competing with other good trained legal SB masseuses that are charging twice the price to survive here. The body massage was mostly a lot of squeezing with his forearm and elbow, focused on neck and upper back, which I didn't specify. A few times when he did it really hard he said "OK?" and I realized a nodding of my head was really all I could do if he didn't understand English. The foot "therapist" was not trained in proper foot massage and just kept repeating his rubbing in weird places, like the tops of my foot. I think he even kind of feel asleep towards the end because his rubbing would get mindless and soft and I kept looking at his face to see if he was sleeping. REALLY! Normally in a good foot massage they work the whole foot in the proper points and then go back and work out the knots in the congested points, which they know about because they are trained in reflexology. I actually had to point to my heel to get him to work on my whole foot. He mostly just rubbed up and down towards the top 2/3rds of my foot. I've gotten a lot of massages in California and in different countries on business trips, and I am really learning to appreciate strong trained masseuses. I am sure they may have some here at Evan's but I am not sure if I want to keep going back to discover who they are. But it definitely is affordable. read more

I was sore from a punishing yoga session and needed relief. My shoulders and upper back were killing me. A friend said her friend really liked this place so I tried it. How does that go? The friend of my friend is my enemy? no ha ha that's the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Anyway, this place sucks. Three days later I'm still in pain. Now my whole body hurts. I specifically checked off number 3 for pressure and slow. What I got was a mean little guy (who was probably pissed at his wife), who worked me over until I resembled roadkill. Didn't use hands (dontcha have to in order to massage?) Just used his forearms and elbows. He spoke no English just pointed to the table for me to lie down. Then he didn't like the way I was laying so he grabbed my ankles and jerked me around into a position he wanted. Then the pain came and I found myself holding my breath waiting each time for the inevitable pain. My God, he was drilling his elbows into my back. I cried out "ow" and "no" so many times and I would involuntarily jerk when he'd drill into my back and he remained oblivious. He bent my arms and legs back so forcefully that I honestly think he could have snapped me like a breadstick. Then it's gets even better. When I went to pay he swiped my card, then shows it to me where it says Tip? So I waved it away and said no tip. He again holds it out to me and insists on a tip. I saw where this was going and I just wanted to get the hell out of there and soak my sore body so I typed in $5. He totally didn't deserve it. I deserved a tip for pain and suffering though. If you like being beaten to a pulp and treated like shit, this is your place. read more

I have come to Evan's Relaxing Station several times and each experience has been positive. Most recently, I brought my mom, mother-in-law, hubby and his brother and we were all able to be seen at the same time. I opted for the combination full body massage and foot massage; heaven! I loved breaking up the services that way. In my prior experiences here I received just a one hour full body massage or one hour foot massage in fear that 30 minutes would not be long enough to feel relief from sore muscles. Let me tell you, I was wrong! The combo was perfect and I felt immensely relaxed as I walked out the doors. For the price, you can't go wrong with Evan's. read more

Great place for a body/ foot massage! I rarely (almost NEVER) fall asleep during massages, but I did when I was there today. My therapist was Wei-Wei. She was very gentle, soothing, and knew when to apply pressure at places where my knots were killing me! When you sign in, there is a section to select the pressure you'd like for your massage and also the pace. I've been to many places such as these, and 9/10 times they are horrible! There was a couple things I would change, but overall, what a great deal and the massage is great. I would advise that you take the pressure down a notch for your first visit. OMG!!!! They are so amazing. In from out of town. I suffer from migraines, I am one of the lucky ones who gets symptoms before the migraine. So, I started feeling nauseated, light headed and highly sensitive to scent & light. I show up told them wanted a body massage, there is somewhat of a language barrier. Ten minutes into my massage and the nausated feelingis GONE. By the time the hour was completely done, I was no longer feeling sick! and I didn't have to take any medication for my migraine (which would have put me to sleep for the rest of the day). I felt so good! I went out for dinner and a movie. Amazing theraputic massage. best deal in town!! This is not a "spa experience" but theraputic massage. Wish we had one like this back home. I really like the convenience of this place. You can drop in anytime and not have to wait, you don't have to disrobe, they're open late AND it's affordable. I've only had the chair massage but I've been 3 or 4 times now and it's been consistent. I request level 6 and that's great for me. My only complaint is that their chairs are a little janky so you sometimes feel a like you're going to fall over, but of course you don't. Overall I recommend it. I always walk out feeling much better than when I arrived. I take away one star because last time I went they added an extra $1 to my already $9 tip. I only mention it so that you pay attention, it might be something they do frequently, I don't know. read more

Very sweet people and they let us in half an hour before they closed. It was a surprise for a friend's birthday after dinner and they are opened until 10pm. What a great way to relax at night. The prices were so cheap $21 for a 30 min foot massage. The massage was awesome. They even have a strength indicator when you sign in, so they know what you prefer. If you've had a long work week sitting at a desk, had a great workout or just need someone to massage out the muscle kinks, this place is great. Don't expect a European style massage, it's a typical Asian foot massage joint; you are fully clothed and whether you get the foot massage, body or combo massage, you feel like you got worked on. Most of the body massage is done by the back of their forearms and elbows. If you are an athlete, it's kind of like the roller stick feel. The body massage-they are pretty intense with the pressure so if that's what you like then it's worth it. An hour is $35 or 40 minutes would be $26. Most of them barely speak English but enough to understand your instructions. I think it's a great deal for SB. read more

I have always had a good experience here. They do have a formulated routine, but it works for me. The full body massage definitely hits all areas. I have found whether you pick 4 or 6 level, it's still quite deep. I like that you don't have to invest multiple hours like at a day spa. It's 30 or 60 minutes and usually very little waiting time. The bad: On three occasions, I have had an additional dollar added to my already 25-30% tip (these guys work hard and I know they depend on tips). Deceptively adding the $1 is bad business. Let's say your 30 minute massage is $22 and you leave a 7 dollar tip, $29 total right? They'll mumble "$30, ok". I have a solution: pay in exact cash. I'm not going to tip as much in the future to make up for the gouging. Sorry, it's bad business and deceptive. That said, a great place to get out the kinks! read more

Great massage! My fault but it was a little rushed.... I got there for a 1 hour massage at 9:11 pm and they close at 10pm.

It was relaxing and everything I hoped for for a 20minute massage. Definitely going back soon to the location on 3009 state street.

First things first, Don't be discouraged by the looks of this place! My bf and I came here in hopes of getting a massage that would help soothe his sore muscles. He's an athlete and is use to 5 star professional massages and thought I was crazy for dragging him into this place. I knew nothing other than reading the reviews. So I was a little worried myself. After a 60 min full body massage for $35 each we walked out of there happy campers. He said it was one of the best he's ever had! Mine was okay. A little too much pressure for my taste. I have been to Evan's several times. Yes, it is great to stop in with no appointment and get a massage for a reasonable price. Although, The other night i had one with a guy that was sniffling and coughing the whole time! It not only was horrible to hear but it was stressful! This is not the first time this has happened. Also, they speak very little English so it difficult to communicate if you need/want to talk with them. No one there has never asked if there are problem areas etc. You get what you pay for. Wow, what a great experience. I walked in on a Saturday night without an appointment, filled out some easy paperwork stating the speed and intensity I preferred, and got all my sore spots worked on. My sister and friends have recommended this spot and I finally gave it a try. It was a different experience but the massage therapist was good and I will definitely return. Had a nice enough time I actually fell asleep and didn't even mind my snoring neighbor...who clearly was relaxed =) Do note the lovely sign at the entrance to keep your voice down to a whisper, sound carries and can easily disrupt someone's peace and quiet. My mom insisted I get a massage here and paid for it. I got a foot massage and my feet are killing me today. I have pins and needles pain, all the joints in my toes feel dislocated, feels like I have rug burn and the skin is peeling off from what ever oil they used. Also it feels like the flesh on my feet has dislocated from the bone. Hope this heals! Besides all that the inside of the place is creepy and all the workers look miserable. read more

Awesome and quirky! I go for the combo massage. Fully clothed, face down-all the employees know just how to do the "squashy-facia" dance on my sore muscles. WONDERFUL!. I get the level 3 to 4 pressure out of 10. Perfect. Then the foot soak and massage after....bliss. Haven't been able to make it through the foot massage without falling asleep. The price - crazy reasonable!!! They have the TVs on in sight of the recliners on some random nature channel. Upon my visit last week, After part one, getting my great face down massage, I was guided over to the squishy, cloud-like lazy boy chairs. ( Part two) My feet were then guided into a lovely 1/2 bamboo barrel of warm water. Unfortunately, I looked up and saw the image of a huge African Lion taking down a horrified antelope. Hmmmm....so much for relaxing images of nature. Maybe this was their strategy all along - keep your eyes closed, go inward and relax - and tv is the devil. Yep....all true. read more

I had a completely wonderful experience at the other relaxing station (west on State) so this one star is ONLY for my experience with my masseuse, "Sam." I have never been grossed out and pissed off during a massage before but now I can say that I have been. This may seem petty, because he probably cannot control this, but he breathed through his mouth the entire time, and quite close to my ear, and it sounded as if some spittle was going to come flying out of his mouth and land somewhere on my face. This is an incredibly difficult noise to try and relax to. Now for the stuff he perhaps has more control over. He seemed to not know what he was doing and gave the impression he could care less. I never once experienced that "good hurt." The whole massage (which I noticed he cut short to 25 min instead of 30) consisted of him just rubbing me hard and thoughtlessly with the back of his forearm and then pressing one finger (his thumb? hope it was a finger..) into my skin, not even aiming for muscle groups. It honestly felt like I was on a date with a lazy, clueless 14 year-old. I grew angrier and angrier and was trying to figure out a polite way to get up and leave. It was that bad. My arm massage was 30 seconds per arm and consisted of basically getting pinched four different times then having him smear his hands on my hands and drop them aimlessly. At one point he used my body to lean on while he reached for something, perhaps another part of my body. Again, thoughtless. Careless. He had no plan, no technique. I paid to get towel burns on my skin and dead weight dropped randomly on me while listening to a man's very nearby gurgling breath. It feels rude to write a Yelp review about one person instead of a business, but I guess I am writing about the business because they have to train people like him or give him a job where people don't pay to have him touch their bodies. Will have to find a way to request someone else, or, perhaps hope my luck continues to be better at the other relaxing station. read more
