Buyer beware, I have been a customer of Eves for over 25 years . I have spent thousands of dollars at her gallery. It's time for her to retire. The craftsmanship, customer service , and quality has gone way down hill. You are greeted by a blue hair , un knowledgeable, dirty sales person in an ancient un kept studio. I recently ordered a custom ring and the work man ship was so bad the stones were falling out . It had not even been a year and Eve charged me to repair the ring. why? Eve promised to send me a check but instead she gave me a a 25 dollar gift certificate. ( I can not even re string my pearls for this amount) I spoke to Eve directly and she promised to send me a refund. Weeks went by and again I spoke to Eve and she assured me the "check was in the mail and must be slowed down due to the election ballots. "(We have a new president and I still have no check) Eve you need to retire your workmanship is poor , your customer service is awful , and you out right will lie to your loyal customers . Eve would not even clean my jewelry? ( due to coved she said) seems odd I can get my teeth cleaned at the dentist and not my jewelry at Eves studio.This is awful customer service . I am trying to keep businesses open by patronizing them but it needs to go both ways. Loyalty It's not appreciated at this gallery save your money and find a new ,young,designer. Some one who will be there and that will stand by there products and live up to there word. It saddens me that Eve would dissolve a relationship of 27 years over 30 dollars. She has been phenomenal in coming up with ideas for how to change and improve the pieces I have brought to her, and the work she does has been simply exquisite. I can't praise Eve highly enough. She's incredibly talented, her pieces are original and reflect incredible care/detail/uniqueness, she's a stickler for high-quality materials, and on top of it, she's a pleasure to do business with - a warm, friendly, reasonable person who makes you feel like you're participating in an art project, not a business transaction. Eve was so enthusiastically recommended by our artsy couple friends, who'd used her to design their wedding/engagement rings plus lots of other funky jewelry for the lady of the pair, that my then-boyfriend took us on a trip from DC all the way to Chicago to meet with her about designing my engagement ring. I thought it seemed like a crazy distance to travel when there are jewelers everywhere, but I'm so glad we did. Eve is just amazing at what she does. She is an incredibly warm, perceptive person and basically a jewelry nerd, which I mean in the best possible way. She could be your sweet French grandmother, but she has the passion and enthusiasm of a teenager or young adult -- she told us she gets so into designing her pieces that she'll get an inspiration late one evening and then stay up all night for days putting it together. Her store is gorgeous, well-laid-out so it's easy to move even when it's busy, and her staff clearly love working for her. They had a cheese/app plate and wine (good stuff!) which was a nice classy touch. She's really into pearls and has this adorable corner of her store devoted to books and photos of/about pearls, in addition of course to the gorgeous pearl jewelry she designs. For our consult, Eve sat down with the two of us and talked for a long time about our personalities, what we're like, what we enjoy doing together. Not knowing much about jewelry, I struggled to form an opinion on what I was looking for or to articulate the few preferences I had properly, and I was amazed when she produced a number of exciting, cool rings that really appealed to me just based on the stories we'd told her - she had such an incredible instinct for what would reflect us. I felt so torn between a traditional, pretty stone ring and wanting it to have something unique, and everything she produced managed to balance both perfectly. From the pieces I liked best, I pointed out their aspects that particularly appealed to me, she took notes but managed to be elusive enough that I still felt like I would be surprised when I saw the finished product (and yes, I was). Then, she very warmly invited me to go have another glass of wine, which was a perfect and tasteful way to keep me busy while she and my now-fiance talked price and payment. He seemed very happy with the price he paid - they're not cheap of course, this is high-end jewelry, but her prices are incredibly competitive. In the end, though I've never been a jewelry person and what I do like is mostly big cheap clunky earrings, I absolutely love my engagement ring. She had the wonderful idea of including both mine and now-fiance's birthstones situated opposite each other, and was able to inscribe a lyric from our song on the interior of the band, which I love. It was such an original and creative design and I'm amazed at how much she managed to involve me in the process even though I was so clueless. She's just an incredible talent and I'm so happy she's the person who made the most wonderful gift I've ever received. Her settings are entirely unique and elegant - above and beyond the plain designs that can be found at most every other jeweler in the Chicagoland area. Eve is amazing to talk to. She's an archeologist and uses mythologies in her designs. She even has a fan club. Every piece of jewelery she designs is special and has it's own story to go with it. The only complaint I have is her staff won't let you speak to her without an appointment, not even to say hi. Eve worked with me and my husband to design first my engagement ring & wedding band and then, as our wedding approached, my wedding jewelry and his ring. We had such a rewarding experience planning my rings that I never considered another jeweler when it came to my wedding pieces. Eve's staff are knowledgeable, helpful, and sweet. Eve herself is a dream to work with because I felt that we were speaking the same artistic language: I spent time perusing her website for possible engagement rings, went in to look at them in person, and ended up choosing an existing piece (Endless Summer) which was the template for my ring. Eve showed us a variety of loose stones before we choose a Madagascan sapphire, and had the ring cast to fit the stone and my measurements. The best part was designing the companion wedding band. Eve brought out a box of differently styled bands and we compared them with the ring until I found one that fit my desire for a flowing, asymmetrical, organic look. It was such a pleasure to work with a jeweler who really listened to my thoughts and desires and made them come to fruition. When the wedding was finally in planning, I came back to Eve to have my wedding jewelry made. I was in the process of designing and making my wedding gown, and I wanted pieces of jewelry to compliment the design ethos of the dress - gold and cream tones, asymmetrical skirts, and embellishments inspired by Japanese flower art. I brought in fabric swatches and the embroidery pieces, and I described the gown's design to Eve. She seemed truly captivated by what I was trying to accomplish, and she found earrings she had on display - a pair but not identical, with the tiny differences found in natural leaves - to be our starting point. Working from their design, Eve made a fabulous asymmetrical necklace - stiff silver wire around the back of the neck suspends a cluster of leaves on one side and a single leaf on the other side of the neck in front. Eve suspended gold pearls that perfectly matched the color of my gown from both earrings and the point of the necklace and embedded small diamonds in the necklace. On my wedding day, I was overwhelmed with compliments on the stunning vision the gown and jewelry created together. I was truly privileged to work with Eve, and accomplished, insightful artist. It was a joy to work with someone whose creative process so complimented my own. read more
