The food quality is spotty and service was slow. Some may be fine with it, but the dense smoke is a major turn off. The seating layout is not great. There were a lot of promises of renovating and bringing more amenities to the venue. They never materialized to any real degree. read more

This place is the definition of the "hole in the wall". Much like "Joe's Generic Bar" of Austin, Tx in the late 80's (situated next to the Hollywood Favorite "Black Cat Cafe"), Even Odds is a relic in time, a Southern Rock and Roll "Junkers" classic that you might be afraid to enter (if you don't understand Southern Culture and down home junkin). You can get you some southern comfort from Patty serving the bar if you are able, or consider some bar food that delivers on the ol' cliche "comfort food". On one night I visited, the spirit was hospitable, as if if southern hospitality (long dead in Atlanta) greeted me like a friend of years ago & not seen in a generation. Partly the blaring southern rock in the bare rafters above, partly the cigarette smoke from a Molly Hatchett concert years ago ringing freedom in your ears in an age when responsibility was truly owned, and smoking a personal responsibility (I am not a smoker) - reminding me of a smoky concert hall with Danny Joe Brown or Phil McCormack jamming to the sounds of his own backstreet band. And you can jam out. Hook your smartphone up to the bluetooth connection to the sound system and you are now the bar's dj. But be forewarned, the crowd around you will make sure to critique your selection of music. I selected Blackfoot's Highway Song which was visibly applauded followed by some Nugent and then the Allman brothers. The service was not fast but it was hospitable. Don't come here if your clock is not set to "Lake time" as the atmosphere is totally laid back. I selected the rueben from the menu and it was delish- only somewhat foiled by wafting cigarette smoke. Needless to say, don't come here if you have a problem with that as you will be miserable. BUT, if you want to experience a trip back in time to a place where Ronnie Van Zant could suddenly appear out of time at the bar, or Greg Allman, or Danny Joe Brown ; if you have some nostalgic memories of smoky bars and pool halls on 6th Street in Austin Tx, good food and good people (There's good people in Alabama), this may be the place for you. read more

It's a dive bar with the best cheese burger you'll ever eat. The staff will make you feel right at home. Karaoke, cold beer, great service and all you can eat cat fish on Friday! Do I need to say more? read more

We were excited to try Even Odds, as it's under new management & recently had its grand opening. When we entered, we weren't sure what to do or where to go. Someone off to the side was hesitantly welcoming, but we were unsure as to whether he worked there or was a friendly patron (turns out, he worked there). The staff was friendly, the service a tad slow but very responsive & it was clear they were trying hard to serve well. It had a good sized "bar menu" with a few notable additions. Everyone ordered something different & no one complained their about the food or drinks. The reason for the single star & the reason we won't be going back is that the amount of second-hand smoke we were exposed to was positively life-limiting. Every item of clothing we had on needed washing, all had to take showers...even our shoes needed airing out. This is a friendly place with decent food FOR SMOKERS. read more

Not sure where this guy Scott come from or if he just likes the ring of his words but Even Odds is not a place reminiscent of any old school juke type atmosphere. Unfortunately when the new owners took over a few years back the place took a dive. It is a smoking bar and the patrons are for the most part oblivious to the notion of courtesy to non smokers. The waitresses and owner all smoke. Do not be surprised if when you order your food you see a cigarette dangling from the mouth of the person serving you. As far as made to order food that too is little more than an excuse for your order not being ready for 45 minutes or longer. As far as music they do have bands about once a month and on rare occasions they are decent but for the most part they are locals like the Leverton's who seem to have forgotten that the 80's are gone and are wearing out the modest success of their band penned song that is little more than a Jimmy Buffet remake. The best thing about the Leverton's is the woman singing still has 80's big hair and two of the band are still sporting mullets. The food is generic typical bar fare. More often than not there is karaoke of the worst sort. Old and elderly singing the worst of country classics like " White Trash ho". If your a newbie pay with cash as you go. I have had tabs that were completely out of line with orders. If you like bad karaoke, mediocre food, aching lungs the next morning this is your place. read more
