Years ago, before the pandemic, we had regularly visited a Nepalese restaurant in Albany, and since we were seeking something out of the ordinary, we tried to find it again. It had closed, but this restaurant had taken its place a few hundred feet away, so we tried it. We splurged and ordered half the menu, and loved ALL of it. Stopped in to Everest Kitchen for a light lunch, and it was so tasty! I sat at the bar and Sanjoz was my server- very friendly and quick service! Sanjoz recommended the Nimki Chaat for a good light and flavorful option, and it was perfect- Homemade crackers topped with garbanzo, yogurt, onion, spices & chutney- light and fresh with a nice little crunch to it. I ordered paneer pharsi, samosa chaat, honey naan, and mango lassi via delivery which arrived on time. All of the food was delicious! You can actually taste the honey in the naan which made it nice and sweet. The curry of the paneer pharsi was a little bit spicy, but not unbearable especially with the paneer and brown rice, so I'm happy that "mild" level of spiciness is in fact mild. I loved the samosa chaat, a nice mix of cheese, garbanzo beans, more savory and crunchy bits (perhaps the crunchy parts were the samosa skin?) The mango lassi was also sweet and tasted like how I would expect. Also, I thought it was a nice touch that they wrote "Thank you Sydney" on the bag. So when I see Everest in a name, my most vivid recollection is wearing my ragged down jacket and leaning over a barf bag as we kept circling around the snow cap. By sheer coincidence, I ran into longtime fellow Yelper Rinky N. who was with her posse and confirmed that Jamie W. and I made a good choice coming here. We all saw the best deal was the Thali Lunch Special which basically provides everything but the kitchen sink. The price was constant, so depending on what you chose for your main dish, it was either $10.99 or $11.99. We ordered: - Pan Fried Lamb: This was really well seasoned and had tender pieces! - Jhol Chicken Momo: It was very tasty momo, and it was our first time getting the "Jhol" momo which has a side of tomato soup. Highly recommend this as it went very well together! I'm not sure if we were supposed to pour the soup over the momo... but that was tasty! Please feel free to correct me if we're doing it wrong though! - Saag Paneer - Oh my goodness their paneer is so good! My only complaint was I wish there were more pieces of paneer because it is so dang good! Their saag is yummy as well. - Garlic Naan - MMMM SO GARLICY! Must get if you like garlic and naan! - Samosa Chaat - This was our first time having this dish, since we usually just get regular samosas, but dang, I think this is the only way I can eat samosas from now on. I'm vegan so I really appreciate the solid vegan menu they have. I ordered the pumpkin garbanzo bean dish for takeout previously and really enjoyed it. This time around was my first time dining in (a Saturday afternoon lunch), and I got the veggie momos which were good too. I think I enjoyed their vegetable dishes more though so I plan on trying all of them. They do a good job with portion sizes. They're pretty appropriate. It's not way too much and not way too little. The interior of the restaurant reminds me of a typical Indian restaurant, meaning a large space with nice tables and chairs. We were a little warm when we came in but they turned the fans on a little later and then it was nice and cool. The good food plus the great selection of vegan items makes me happy. I deeply appreciate the owners dedication to creating a wonderful experience for their customers. Last time we went to Everest Kitchen, we had a hiccup with our Togo order. After learning about this, the owners and staff were quick to resolve the issue! We're glad we got to give them another go because it was well worth it! My husband and I had the veggie korma, lamb curry, garlic naan, mango lassi, and samosas. The entrees were flavorful, and paired nicely with the garlic naan (of course!). The samosas are MUST try. Wow. They were phenomenal!! I love samosas already, but I find that some places tend to over bread them. These were perfect. These had a nice outer shell that wasn't too thick, so you really get to enjoy the flavors. I could have eaten the whole order to myself, they were that good! The sauces that accompany the samosas are also very tasty. 10/10. Lastly, the Mango Lassi was a great treat. It was the right level of sweetness for my husband and I. The flavors and tastes and textures of the food were delicious. We recently ordered take out from Everest and were happy with every single dish. For starters, we ordered the vegetable momos. The dumplings were delicious and flavorful. For entrees we ordered the chicken tikka masala (which really had the nutty, creamy flavor that we've come to enjoy in this dish), the aulu cauli (a vegetarian cauliflower dish with spices) and the chicken curry. Each dish had a signature flavor profile. I highly recommend getting some naan bread to scoop up the saucy goodness. My first time here was amazing. I walked in and the restaurant was not very busy but I was was immediately greeted by the very lovely staff. The staff was very polite and friendly and I felt very welcomed. I ordered my food to go via phone call and my food was hot and tasty! I got the chicken tikka masala mean which come with a side of plain rice. I ordered my tikka masala medium because I was not sure how spicy it would be. The options are mild, medium, and spicy. The medium level of spice is too mild for me and next time I will definitely get spicy. The sauce is very creamy and thick, so I know it will be amazing with a bit more spice. I have been looking for a great Indian food spot and I think I have found it. The only think that is holding me back from making this spot my regular place for chicken tikka masala is that the chicken with rice is $15 + tax. I am used to getting great Indian food for around $10 in San Francisco, so it was shocking to find out how expensive this place is. The tofu saag and the pharsi curry only had FOUR cubes of tofu! I paid $13 for EACH curry and there's only 4 cubes. Then, in the aloo (which means potato) cauli, only one cube of potato. Lots of mushy sauce, which is to be expected, but I'm so so so disappointed about the content in these dishes. I basically paid $13 for mushy, stewed veggies. It's annoying. Granted, it comes with rice, but I'd rather pay extra for rice and get more substance in my curries. Thali plate was good and had a nice variety of flavors and textures. I ordered the Kukhura Ko Masu which had a lot of flavor and the chicken was moist. I liked that you could choose the spice level. The papad gave a satisfying crunch when eaten with each spoonful of rice and curry or daal. Naan came out piping hot and was very soft & fluffy. Service was excellent. It was pretty empty when I got there around 12pm on a Thursday but started filling up after 1pm. The best chicken korma ever!. Thick, rich and creamy sauce with tender chunks of chicken. The Momos with Buffalo were delicious, mild flavored meat in a steamed dumpling in a mild spicy sauce. Thali is Indian for "plate". It's a meal generally consisting of small meat or vegetable dishes accompanied my rice, bread and starter or dessert. Thank you, Wiki. I decided to order from the lunch special menu, offered between the hours of 10:30am-3pm. They're closed before dinner service at 5pm. My chicken tikka masala meal ($10.99) came with rice (white or brown), naan bread, daal, papad, raita, Nepalese chutney + mini salad. This meal alone took me on a cultural, yet educational adventure. For one, I wasn't familiar with some of things on my plate, so I had to look up what I was eating. The daal or Indian spiced lentils was plain delicious. Packed with protein, the lentil stew wasn't particularly thick but tasted similar to a puree. It was perfect with the naan, which was thick + had a soft texture. Probably a favorite part of my meal aside from the chicken tikka masala, which had the option of mild or spicy. I chose the mild option and out came this white chicken baked in a tandoor, or clay, oven submerged in this special creamy sauce. The papad, which was this thin and crispy disc beneath my naan, had hints of garlic, but was so subtle that when dipped in the tikka masala sauce, it was easily overpowered. I wasn't a fan of the raita, but for the sole reason that I wasn't accustomed to its flavorings. This Indian yogurt and cucumber condiment is usually used as a dip. Hope you learned something! Service was friendly, but lacking. I think they were also trying to give people their space. My water glass was empty for some time. It wasn't particularly busy, but the food came out rather quickly. I might also add that their bathroom needs some remodeling. I give this place an A+! And I think I found my new, regular lunch spot. **Don't forget to check in on yelp for that 12% discount (weird number, but I won't question it). The people being so nice every time we come there, whether it is in the morning or right before they close, is just the icing on the cake for this great restaurant. Everest did not remain bookmarked for long-- I saw a Groupon and went the next day. I ordered the chicken tikka masala lunch special. In addition to the main course, it included: dal soup, salad, papadum, naan, raita and rice. S had a goat dish off the main menu. When he realized that he would not get all the all the extras I did, we order the mashed samosas to share and naan and a bowl dal for him. The chicken was excellent and they did ask how spicy I wanted it. Dal is a favorite of mine; after I finished what came with my lunch, I help S finish his. All the extras that came with my lunch were good. The mashed samosas were good; however, I think the regular ones would be better. I don't remember which goat dish S had. Whatever it was he liked it and said that there were only two bones in the dish and he could easily see them. Only the bones were left on his plate. I am looking forward to going back soon. Really loved the Chicken Tikka Kabob, very tasty. We also had the Pan Fried Lamb, basically lamb karahi (lamb, onion, bell peppers and tomatoes), which was fantastic. We ordered two lunch specials and one tea, and the total was in excess of $25. And that was a lunch special. The service was friendly but a little slow (despite very few lunchtime customers). I ordered goat curry at the spicy level of heat. On the bright side, the goat curry was excellent and definitely spicy -In a good way :-). Nothing else on the big stainless steel plate was very exciting. Garden salad (?), Naan which was bland, Rice which was okay, a yoghurt sauce which was good (a lot like tiziki ), some very soupy Dahl that tasted more like spit pea soup, and some other cauliflower-like vegetable curry. Also, serving all of this on a stainless steel plate was unique but detracted from the meal for my tastes. I would rather have had a good portion of curry and rice, with flavorful naan. Given all the positive buzz about this place, maybe I should come back for dinner. Also, this place is thoughtfully managed, caring about their customers etc, and I suspect they would've made things right if I chose to complain. My least favorite item in the lunch was the lentil soup (We found it a little bland - not enough spice) but everything else was very, very delicious. The workers there are very nice and attentive.
