We had reached out to another company and they weren't going to be able to get us on the schedule for 4-5 weeks, Steve was able to fit us into his schedule within 1 week. They arrived quietly sometime before 8am and didn't start up any equipment until 8am which was perfect for us since we had a sleeping baby. I found Evergreen Tree Service on Craigslist. Steve ask me to text him the picture of the tree I want to remove. It is a very big old tree which I thought would cost a lot of money, but he instantly quote me for $2500 with completely removal and grind the stump. He and his crew came and it took them a whole day to remove this giant tree and he even remove 2 other smaller tree for free too. I also give him 2 more job on my other houses next day. Then my neighbor came by to get a quote and they agreed to remove their 2 big tree too. Steve gave reasonable price and his crew did great job. In the past I've hired different tree service companies and all fell short to my satisfaction. I saw Steve's big chipper truck in the neighborhood one day and decided to call Evergreen Tree Service. Due to a plumbing problem we needed all the trees and shrubs removed from the 40' front planter. Too close to the house and too many sprinkler pipes so they cut down and dug out all the stumps by hand. Also, Evergreen side trimmed a 60' long row of large screen trees and manicured a 25-yr old schefflera tree that was compromising power lines and hanging over our pool. Steve, the owner, was present the entire time. He and his crew showed up on time, finished when promised, and cleaned up thoroughly. Best, most professional company I've ever hired. read more

Very dissatisfied with the response I received when attempting to get an estimate from Evergreen for trimming my trees. I had simply asked if he (Steve) had received my response regarding availability to have someone give me an estimate, and this is what he wrote to me: "I did and I can not match the prices xxxx xxxxxx did the job for, and besides he is my friend". First of all, I never mentioned who had done my trees in the past nor had I mentioned what he had been paid. I was literally dumbfounded. I cannot imagine what that had to do with my wanting an estimate for the current job. Steve had not even seen my trees (hedge). It wasn't as if he was going to be stealing work from his "friend", who BTW, had not responded to me after a month of trying to contact him to get an estimate. This person had both planted and trimmed my trees and my mothers for years. Obviously, he either did not want to do the job or was no longer trimming trees. I spoke with Steve on a Friday, he felt confident he could handle our job (trim 40 trees) and scheduled a 10:00 a.m. appointment to walk the property on Monday. I called Steve at 10:05 a.m. on Monday morning, he couldn't recall the appointment. After I recounted the conversation from Friday, he claims to have walked the property over the weekend and tells me I have 40 Eucalyptus trees, 50 feet in height that need to be trimmed but he cannot handle the job. Hmm, they don't all look like the same kind of tree to me but I'm not the expert. The next guy confirmed there are seven different kinds of trees, only one Eucalyptus in the whole bunch. Thank goodness we did not hire Mr. Eucalyptus! read more

I called Steve in response to a Craig's List add for free mulch for my house. When he arrived he was super anxious and wound up. I had a strong impression he was on some "substance". Half the mulch was unusable because it was mixed with trash, pine cones and branches. As an extra gift he left 7 huge burlap bags full of un-mulched tree branches in my parking space. He said he would return for the bags the next day but he never returned. After two weeks I had to have them taken to the dump myself at a cost of $100+ This guy is not trustworthy and I recommend avoiding his service. read more

Called Steve last week and set an 11am appointment to have him bid on removing several trees from my folks house. I called him @ 10:45 to confirm our meeting and he said he was almost there. I called Steve to look at my pine trees which had turned brown at top. He knew right away what the problem was and gave me an estimate. he seemed to really care about the trees, which I appreciated, and seemed really knowledgeable about trees and plants in general. He is your one-stop shop for landscape needs: aside from tree care, he does general trimming, cleanup, and irrigation. He had a ton of landscape design ideas for me, and I feel confident that he could handle a complete overhaul if only I could afford it! Echoing many of the other 1 star reviews here. Very undependable. I contacted Steve based on his chipper ad for $500/6 hrs on Craigslist. When he first came over to survey the work a week ago I told him that we had not yet completed our pruning and would very likely double the amount of branches to chip. We run an organic farm and try to recycle our green waste instead of taking it to the dump. When he came out again this afternoon to assess the work he brought up a number of items that he said would require more effort and wanted to charge us $1600 to get the job done. I agree that there was more effort and was willing to pay more, but not over 3x more. I even asked him to take the additional work out of scope and just do the work he had already agreed to do the prior week. He refused. Not someone I would recommend doing business with. He probably does a good job on the smaller stuff where he can charge a lot of money. But if you're looking for reliable work on a larger job at a reasonable price I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

Great experience! I called Steve on a Sunday and he was at the house walking the property with me in 30 minutes. Began the 2 day job that Tuesday, was not only on time both days with the entire crew but even a bit early. There was more involved with this project than I could ever have guessed and I was shocked to see how much was done after day one. I was most concerned with how much work there was and all of the clean up there needed to be. When I can home on Wednesday, they had already completed the job and the property was cleaner than it had been in months...... like they were never there!!! I've been meaning to have our trees trimmed for a while now. Called this guy off of Craigslist, about a month ago and he never showed up for our appointment. Forgot about it for a while then called back to try to get it taken care of again. He's not the friendliest of characters, he cut me off saying I never showed up for our appointment and said he wasn't interested in the work. Bad service, and apparently doesn't need the business. He should get his ad off of Craigslist. Don't call him, there's friendlier tree trimmers out there. read more

I had a friend refer me to Steve when I had an uprooted tree after the winds late last month. He was the second bid ( the first was 20% higher than he was) on this soon to be rental home. I called Evergreen on Friday after finding a flier on my door step. I just moved into my house and I have a huge tree in my front yard that needed work. Since I am new to the area I thought I'd give them a call. Within 20 minutes of calling, Steve stopped by to give me an estimate. We discussed what needed to be done to that tree as well as to a couple others around the house. He gave me a reasonable quote and said he could come the next day. Perfect! He arrived with his crew on time and spent the next 4 hours making my yard look amazing! I appreciated that he stopped to consult with me half way through to discuss the progress. I called for an estimate to remove 80 linear feet of overgrown trumpet vines. Steve came the next day, and on time. He was very personable, knowledgeable and competitively priced. After a review of the project, his Team arrived sharply the next day at 7:30 AM as scheduled for removal. Steve personally oversaw the project with three other well trained, friendly workers. They were very careful to protect our property; particularly our sculpture and etched glass doors. The job was competed in six hours with no problems. Throughout the project, Steve would present unforeseen issues for discussion and decisions to be made. They left the site clean and removed all the debris. I had one small issue I felt should be corrected. Steve very graciously returned and resolved the issue to my satisfaction. I will recommend Evergreen and use their services in the future. read more

We Called Steve out for an estimate on Thursday March 13th for two palm stump removals. Steve came by and looked at the stumps and told me how difficult they were and that he would do them but really didn't want to but he would be back Friday the next day. He left and I had another contractor call and said he would do them for $100 cheaper and could do them the same day. I called Steve and said that I had agreed to do the work with Him (Evergreen )and wanted his opinion, Steve said go ahead and have them do it. I got a call from the other Company's guy saying it would be the next day. Since I already met with Steve I said that I will use evergreen and hung up. I called Steve back and explained the situation and he said well tomorrow is no good but how about Saturday ? I said fine see you then, Saturday comes and goes with no call so I call him three times and finally he answers. He starts rambling on about some big job and really sorry but I am dong you a favor and blah blah blah. I said when will you be by ? He said the next Saturday for sure after a job he will swing by. I called him on Friday twice and finally got a hold of him and said, "you will be here tomorrow right "? Then again Whittier, big job, I am doing you a favor, Blah, blah, blah. I said Steve I am getting tired of the run around when are you coming ? I will call you Saturday and let you know what day "I PROMISE " Saturday came and went Sunday came and Went Monday came and went, no call. I called OC tree service and Carlos was out in an hour and quoted me the same price and he is here now on time and almost done after 1 hour. I guess I should have known better but a mans word is all we got. I hate to be the first to write a review and it be negative but I feel compelled after all the grief and headaches Steve caused.
