Great bagels, friendly service, clean atmosphere, and convenient location! So many gluten free options for those with dietary restrictions.

I've been visiting this location for many years thanks to them serving tons of gluten-free options including bagels and pastries. Their gluten-free bagels have definitely improved over the years and my recent visit provided to be the best ones yet. I went a little pastry crazy and got a ton of things, all of which were rather tasty. My SO got a gf Boston cream donut that is probably the best one I've had since going gf. Most importantly, they had huge jumbo soft pretzels, I couldn't even tell you the last time I was able to go out and buy one. It was heated up for me and I scarfed down most of it in the car, nearly weeping at how good it was. One problem is that items in the pastry cases are not labeled, so I was stuck having to take up time asking what items were. Like most bagel shops, it can be annoying when you're trying to figure out lines and how the ordering is processed by those behind the counter. I was waiting in what clearly looked like the line and then proceeded to be ignored when it was my turn. Thankfully, the pretzel is certainly worth the aggravation of ordering.

    The dessert case greets you.

An average bagel place (though they may sell more desserts than bagels) where you can grab a seat and stay a while... ordered a toasted jalapeño bagel with scallion cream cheese and lox. The bagel didn't give much heat, so don't expect much of the jalapeños. The cream cheese was spread a bit thin, and I found myself wishing there was just a little more (see photo). The half sour pickles were good so that helped. Good selection of teas and the coffee is good.

First and foremost, when I placed my order I had to repeat it multiple times. From that moment I knew my order was going to be messed up. The person at the front ensured me that it would be correct. I took the order and I should have opened the sandwiches while I was there but I was in a rush so took the order and left. As expected, the egg sandwich was wrong. It was even requested to have a runny egg (over easy) and as you can tell by the photo it was really well done. Secondly, I ordered the bagel with scallion cream cheese and as you can tell by the photo looks like they didn't even put any cream cheese and just picked out of couple pieces of scallions and placed them on the bagel. I was beyond disappointed. It probably doesn't help that all but 1 worker speaks Spanish and not English. The only reason this gets even one star is because I called to make the gentleman that insured me my order was correct that it was indeed wrong and asked for a refund; and he sent the refund.

Bagels are nothing special if anything they need a little TLC. These bagels do not represent a true NJ style bagel.

I ordered the Pineapple Express pizza, which included ricotta cheese, jalapeños, pork belly (if I'm not mistaken), ham, and fresh basil on the side. The combination of flavors was absolutely amazing, and it was one of the best specialty pizzas I've had. The customer service was outstanding from start to finish, and I have absolutely no complaints. This was a fantastic experience, and I will definitely be ordering again. The crust had the perfect balance of chew and crispness, with a great flavor that sets it apart from your average pizza shop. Every slice held up well and had just the right amount of sauce and cheese. The wings were another highlight, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. The fries arrived hot and crispy, which is always appreciated when ordering delivery. What impressed me most was how quickly everything arrived. The food was fresh, well-packaged, and tasted like it had just come out of the kitchen. If you're looking for great pizza, quality wings, and reliable delivery, Grumpy's is definitely worth a visit. We arrived a little after 9pm. The service of the young server was perfect. He was prompt, polite and attentive to our needs. The food was as good as you can get at a highway diner. We got what we expected and enjoyed it. Desert, however, is another story. D is allergic to anything that contains caffeine. That means no coffee, tea, certain pain medications and NO CHOCOLATE. She asked me to go to the display counter and see what kind of cheesecake there was. There were many different kinds: mango, orange, caramel, banana and more. Unfortunately, this diner's idea of garnishing a desert is with a creme topping loaded with CHOCOLATE STICKS, CHIPS, AND COOKIES! (see attached photo) EVEN THE DESERT LABLED VANILLA CAKE WAS FESTOONED WITH CHOCOLATE HOO-HAH! When I mentioned this to the management, I was told, "Well, we have rice pudding and baklava." No matter how I worded it, he just couldn't seem to comprehend that a good 90+% of his deserts had chocolate which was discriminatory against people who are allergic to chocolate. I even tried to put it in another reality for him. I asked if their baker made anything with peanut or peanut butter. He replied in the affirmative. I asked if they had a special preparation area so that there were safe deserts for a child with a peanut allergy. He didn't seem to understand the premise. So, if you, or your child have ANY food allergies, I strongly suggest that you avoid the Suburban Diner at all costs. We will be doing so in the future.
