Date of Visit: 05/24/2026…read more It was Sunday over Memorial Day weekend and we decided to make a trip to the Ellenton Mall for the afternoon. For being the holiday weekend the traffic was mild, made it over the Skyway and to the mall in no time. After our walk around we were hungry and walk over to the cheese steak place, which is awesome by the way, but they are closed on this Sunday. Dang. That's when I remembered the place on the river. We had already been to one of them and wanted something new. And Whiskey Joe's was it. Leaving the mall and getting there was easy. And once you turn it's at the end of the road. First time here so we weren't sure of the lay-out. There is inside as well as a tiki-bar area. We made our way to the tiki bar since it was a nice day with a breeze. After sitting we were quickly attended to. However there was only the one guy running the tiki bar so we knew to be patient. After he made a round he came back and had our drinks and taking our food order. Since I had a burger yesterday, you would know this if your following me, I wanted something different. I chose the blacken chicken w/fries and the wife ordered the Caribbean salad. I really don't know how long it took to arrive, we were enjoying the view and nice breeze. Then our food came, presentation was good. I didn't take off for the fries, I'd rather have them not coated, these were like Checkers fries. Some people like them that's why I didn't take points off I still had some. Though I did like the chicken very much, it was so juicy. And Like others have noted, the blackening here is just the seasoning not the actual act of blackening. I'm still waiting to go somewhere where they actually blacken it. Now the wife just loved her salad. It too came with chicken only hers had Caribbean seasoning and juicy as well. We only stayed for lunch and a beverage. It is a great place to stop after the mall. Peace.

First time dining here and we had a great experience overall! Plenty of parking and the restaurant…read moreitself is huge with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Service was friendly, attentive, and surprisingly fast. The seafood was fresh and delicious. The grilled oysters were plump, well-seasoned, and definitely one of the highlights of the meal. The fish tacos were tasty, and the side of fried sweet plantains was delicious. We also tried the ceviche, which was flavorful, but the portion felt a bit small for the amount of chips served alongside it. The gator bites were tough and chewy. May be more palatable if the size of the nuggets were smaller cuts. The margarita tasted good, though the alcohol was barely noticeable. Overall, a very enjoyable first visit with quality seafood, great atmosphere, and excellent service. Just be prepared for slightly pricey portions on some dishes.

It appeared on at least four or five of their many televisions. There were also several other football games on. It is definitely a divey sports bar. We did not get food. We got a high top and there was a server that came around and took our drink order. The stools are metal and do not have backs. It was great for what we wanted. The drinks are very affordable. We did look at the menu and it is typical sports food/bar food. If you're in the area and wanting to catch a sports event this is the place to do it.

Korean fried chicken was really regular smokey BBQ sauce on fried chicken with slaw. It was super spicy (too spicy) but not Asian tasting. And way too much sauce. Would recommend with sauce on side or just order something else. The Cuban sandwich was highly recommended by the server and it was an average cuban. The First Ave Burger was just ok. Not much going on between 2 buns. The bread was mush. I'd recommend that they toast the bun to give it some texture.

What happened to the beloved Applebees food I once loved?! I remember going to Applebees overnight…read moreafter church service every Wednesday. Today.. after I hadn't ordered in so long, I decided to splurge. Yes splurge.. $35 for wings and fiesta lime chicken (use to be Tequila lime chicken) is splurging for me. (Before the almost forced tip). So I was excited to come home after a long days work and have some spicy wings and my Fiesta lime chicken. First off.. DRY DRY DRY!!! Omg!!! Could both be any dryer?! The sauce in the wings is non existent as it's all soaked up in the wings. You want more.. that will be an extra $1.49 sir. I bought extra fiesta sauce cause I know I'll need it but no lime and no pico de gallo. Is it because I didn't pay extra for that? Also do we have to buy celery for our wings too? I ate three wings (well tried to.. it's like chewing on dried semi spicy jerky). Though the ranch was good. But still.. I can't eat them. Atleast enjoyably. So sadly this will definitely be my last time ordering from Applebees. I can't believe I spent $35 on dried chicken with no pico, lime or celery. If you see this Applebees.. make it right please. And stop overcooking the chicken, it's really like chewing on jerky!

We all ordered the bourbon chicken and shrimp which looked nothing like the pictures and a tiny blob of mashed potatoes, why not add more so you at least feel it was a good value. A different server brought out the main course and no one came for refills and/or take away appetizer and salad dishes, the table was a mess and the server couldn't figure out how to take the free appetizer off the bill so finally we just gave up and paid for it. There were a lot of servers and it wasn't crowded so maybe take some time for some extra training unless maybe this location is closing like the other two in the area?
