I come here ALL the time with my non-vegan boyfriend. Combined, we both always get the chocolate shakes, chicken tenders, cali burritos, buffalo chicken fries and a brownie. We absolutely utterly love these items, they're delicious. If you don't like them, I'd say that's your personal taste, not a fault in the items. Other non-vegan friends/family have gotten some items that they really liked also including the fish tacos and the burgers. After we get our food, we drive across the street and eat at the park. It's a blessing to have a healthy fast food establishment that also has a drive- thru! They really need more places like this in town. The green juice was ok. At first it took a while to get past the strong lemon tartness, but when you get used to it, it's quite refreshing (they say lemon is good for digestion & detoxification so I'm all for it if that's the case). The chick'n tenders with chipotle sauce are pretty tasty. The sauce really makes the meal and goes great with the sweet potato chips. Unfortunately, the sweet potato chips weren't crunchy like chips. They weren't overly greasy, but just needed a bit more time to cook & get crispy. The Evo tequila lime chick'n wrap hardly had any chick'n, even when "chick'n" is listed as the 1st ingredient. It was mostly navy beans. & the sauce wasn't reminiscent of tequila lime. It was ok but I don't think I'd order that in the future. Service was ok. We went through the drive thru and had to pull forward and wait a bit, but I didn't mind since I was just glad I didn't have to get out the car. With one exception... I'd be here EVERYDAY if it were closer to where I live (Chula vista). I usually order the mushroom Swiss burger with sweet potato fries and my husband orders the south of the border burger with French fries. My husband says the south of the border burger is comparable to Burger Kings's Guacamole Burger which has a slight kick to it. I love mushrooms in general but the mushroom Swiss burger is amazing! I will probably never get tired of it. It's juicy and the daiya (stretchy) cheese goes really well with it..gives it that savory flavor. We've also ordered their chicken fingers, a little bland but the texture is just like chicken. Oh and if you're having a chocolate craving, order their chocolate milkshake! I am writing a review for their to-go items. I've bought their Thai Wrap and Raw Hummus Wraps (raw vegan), and their black bean burger (vegan). I am more of a fan of their raw hummus wrap than Thai wrap. Simply because their take on "Thai" is adding ginger and tamari soy sauce makes it "Thai". For me, it's like whatever. I like the ginger kick to it, but it doesn't come to me as "Thai". Their raw hummus wraps are pretty good. I like their approach on raw hummus. It's pretty good, refreshing, and not at all salty compared to regular hummus. The wraps (made out of collard greens) hold the stuffing well together. As for the black bean burger, it is flavorful, a bit on the dried side (it doesn't have an emulsifier which makes it dry and traditionally it comes from an animal by-product). I guess, they could use another type of oil other than rice bran oil. The black bean burger has a mild spicy flavor, it keeps you feeling full, but it pairs well with some kind of drink since (again) it is dry. Overall, I would come to this place to dine-in, but parking and wait time can be hectic, that is why I opt for take out. read more

This was the second visit here, due to the drive thru option. First time, food was above average, service was dry, we were the second in line to order. Second visit, horrific. If you aren't the first or second person in the drive thru line then run away. I would have gone inside because I have no issues with walking but it looked like an even longer wait. The girl taking the order did not even apologize, really!? Maybe a free order of fries? Cup of water no ice? Nothing. This type of service will make you run to the next vegan place. We walked here but they have a good sized parking lot if you want to park and eat. And for dessert you can wonder on over to extraordinary desserts! I've had the pleasure of eating here twice already and each time has been good. The first item I tried here was their evo burger with a black bean patty. You have the option of "beef, tempeh or black bean for all their burgers. I really enjoyed the black bean burger it wasn't dried out or flavorless. Which is the main issue when searching for good plant based food. It just tastes and feels like you are eating a real burger with onions, tomatoes, lettuce, CASHEW CHEESE, and 1000 island sauce. You won't regret getting any burger off this menu. This time around I tried their Cali burrito. Whole wheat tortilla surrounding French fries, cashew cheese, guac, salsa and "beef" strips. It's better than eating the real thing! The "beef" strips have the same texture and feel as BBQ beef. It looks just like it too! Throw in a side of sweet potato and house made ketchup and we were set. Okay the sweet potato fries thew me off at first. They are cut into thin rounds more like sweet potato chips. Nonetheless they were still amazing. We sat in the back patio, which is partially covered it. It was kind of dirty, the seats had tree leaves on it but a quick wipe down did the trick. We stopped off for a quick lunch on our way to Balboa Park from LA. Perfect spot to take healthy vegan food to go. I wouldn't recommend sitting in the back patio unless you have to. It's okay. Feels lonely and dusty. Food from the restaurant was amazing. Super fresh and fast. All vegan and delicious. We had a bowl of chili, mushroom black bean burger with cashew cheese, burrito and fries. We checked out Evolution after exploring December Nights at Balboa Park. It was a bit of a walk, but totally worth it. We ordered our food, took a seat and about 10 minutes later we were eating. My bf and I split some buffalo tenders, a black bean cheeseburger and a California burrito. The tenders were good, but had room for improvement. The texture was a bit too spongey to me and the breading could have been crispier. The buffalo sauce was banging, as was the vegan ranch!! We kept dipping our burrito into them for added flavor and spice. I would order the tenders again just for the buffalo sauce and ranch! The California burrito was tasty, but had its own issues. The French fries in it were mushy and stale at the same time. They didn't add anything special, no flavor or crispy texture. The carne asada was great and had the perfect, meaty texture. The whole burrito could've used more flavor/seasoning overall, but the guac and pico were nice and fresh. The black bean cheeseburger was awesome! Lettuce, tomato and pickles were fresh, we really enjoyed the patty itself and the cheese was nicely melted. The vegan mayo was good, but I wasn't really feeling the mustard. The bun was absolutely terrible though, far too crumbly and dry. Ketchup was necessary. Our cousins both ordered chili cheese fries and devoured them. They looked and smelled so good, definitely got to try them next time. I also took home a piece of raw tiramisu, but wasn't too impressed. Wow... this place is next level! It was my first time visiting here. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger with tempeh, on a whole wheat bun, added grilled onions. It was SO GOOD. I was shocked at how nice the WW bun was. It's not the cheap ones you usually get with fast food. It was very grainy and fresh :) The cheese was so tasty and melted so nicely. I went to evolution today and ordered the crispy 'chicken' sand which, buffalo 'chicken' tenders, and the fries. The sand which was by far the worst, the 'meat' being so over cooked you could literally taste the char. The fries were also over cooked although this doesn't bother me as much. I brought the burnt sand which to the attention of the young lady at the register, and she took it to the kitchen. She returned 5 minutes later and told me there was "nothing she could do" and even implied that I may not have even tasted it. Bad customer service and bad food. read more

Initially I was a little confused as to why the menu referred to the mock meats as beef and chicken. Maybe it was just me but perhaps adding quotation to these menu items would help. When I asked the cashier she was quick to make me feel just a little bit stupid for asking the question. We had two evo burgers and two sides of fries. When I asked about the ingredients for the black bean patties again a vague response of black beans, quinoa with some spices perhaps that all it was but I would have liked to know a little details. She was clearly not to be bothered with such silly questions. The burger itself was dry with little to no flavor. The fries were 80% black. I have spent a great deal of time in a commercial kitchen and you don't server black potatoes even if your going to try to kill them in a deep fryer. My option as a professional in the food and beverage industry for over 30 years this was a very poor example vegan cuisine even if it is fast food. The previous vegan restaurant that was at this location was called kung food. After this experience I miss that restaurant even more. We ordered the chicken fingers, fish tacos, and carne asada burrito (those might not be the exact names as they're stated on the menu--I can't remember). I made them each into meals and got a side of fries, a side of sweet potato fries, and a side of potato spinach curry. I was pretty much dissatisfied with every single thing we got except the fries. My daughter said the drinks tasted like poison and I agreed. Keep in mind that I was raised vegetarian, and my kids are being raised vegan, so this type of eating isn't new to us. I had the raw burger- nut based patty with flavorful FRESH veggies, a fantastic hummus wrapped in perfect cabbage clamshells. The texture and flavors are top notch. There's a ton of other "fast food" items, but everything here is vegan. I tried a ginger & carrot juice, it didn't disappoint. The patio is spacious and quiet, which is nice for doing work, studying or just hanging with friends. You can drive through if you can't sit down to eat. What did I just eat? What the f#ck did I just eat?! Tempeh? What in the world is tempeh?! I've been living under a big ol' carnivorous rock my entire life and rarely pick from the healthy or meatless side of the menu. This being said, I definitely never choose to dine at a restaurant exclusively devoted to veganism, but honestly for no good reason - this s#it is legit! So, how'd this happen? Well, I was on my way to a meeting in Balboa Park and offered to pick up lunch for both of us. It just so happens and thankfully that Evolution was the closest and certainly the most delicious option. For $7.25 a piece you have your choice of vegan burgers and I opted for the tempeh "burger." This thing is topped with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, cashew cheese, pickles, and 1000 Island. I even decided to skip the bun and they wrapped it up in some sturdy lettuce... who am I?! Who cares?! This was unbelievably delicious! Dare I say more flavorful than a traditional beef burger? No, I won't go that far but the guilt I feel after taking down this earth-friendly option is a fraction of what its beefy distant cousin does to my conscience.
