Peace Pies is an absolute gem! If you're looking for fresh, completely gluten-free food that actually tastes incredible, Peace Pies delivers on every level. Everything is raw, thoughtfully prepared, and you can truly taste the quality of the ingredients. The chef is hands-down amazing and somehow manages to turn healthy food into works of art. I ordered the buffalo wrap, which came with kale chips on the side. It definitely has a kick to it, but it's balanced by an entire rainbow of vegetables packed into the wrap. Every bite feels nourishing, full of vibrant ingredients that feed your body with different vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. I also ventured out and tried the freeze-dried durian. The texture immediately reminded me of a Lucky Charms marshmallow, although it's much less sweet. The flavor is incredibly difficult to describe--mild and subtle at first, with a fleeting savory note that quickly transforms into something almost tropical, like guava crossed with a nutty vanilla cream. It's unique, delicate, and unlike anything I've tasted before. For dessert, I sampled the Butterfinger and Twix. The Butterfinger filling has a green hue, which might surprise you at first, but don't let that fool you. The chef has somehow recreated the classic Butterfinger flavor in a raw, healthy version. It's not quite as sweet or crunchy as the original, but the flavor and texture are remarkably close and absolutely delicious, this is definitely a must try! The Twix was my personal favorite. The layers of caramel, cookie crunch, and chocolate come together perfectly. The balance of flavors is simply incredible. I've tried several items from Peace Pies over the years, and this place has never disappointed. The menu is creative, fun, and proof that healthy, raw, gluten-free food can be absolutely delicious. Highly recommend! Once in a while the workers are busy working in the back, prepping food and creating recipes- so you may have to get their attention... If they hear you come in, you're greeted immediately with helpful guidance to the menu. I came on prior occasions with my best friend who has many allergies and is of dark melanin- I state this because of a prior ill review regarding preferential treatment based on skin color. This place is a huge no for me. We came here and after waiting several minutes at the register with no greeting, it was extremely disappointing. We stood there patiently whole overhearing a whole conversation between two workers who had more time to converse with each other, than to see what was going on in the front of their establishment. Just chatting with each other and not a care in the world that there were two very excited people up front waiting to see what they had to offer as first time customers. Sadly, they had nothing to offer except awkward stares and silence when he arrived to the front. We never even heard a hello. Just stared quietly without saying anything. So sad to see how we, as the melanated community will be treated coming to this place. We drove about 2 hours for this and were highly disappointed by the way we felt othered by them. The staff was super patient and friendly as we asked what everything was, for recommendations and to make sure our dietary needs were met. Everything is gluten, dairy free and raw and vegan. No refined sugar either! We both enjoyed a wrap- my husband had the falafel and I had the mango. The wraps are likely made with coconut and dehydrated. They were good to eat! The sprouts alone were worth the money! The plants outside give it a nice earthy, hippy vibe and we ended up talking with a family there. It's nice to be among others who like the same type of things. They had driven an hour to come there and loaded up on take home items and a cookbook too! You know it's good and unique if you see that!! We are visiting from Washington so we were super happy to make this our first food out of the anniversary trip! We will be back for sure! Wow, a friend recommended Peace Pies to us when she knew we were headed to San Diego. What a lovely find. We parked on the street and walked toward the restaurant as airplanes zoomed overhead. As we approached the restaurant, it was as if it opened its green arms up to welcome us. Soft smiling folks welcomed us (staff and guests alike.) We were instantly cocooned inside their plant thriving space. I chose the Loving Lasagna and my husband had the Peaceful Pizza sans 'pepperoni'. We threw in a small order of kale chips. There is a tiny store with items to take to-go along with cookbooks and other gift ideas. We decided to sit outside and though it was close to the street, the noise did intrude thanks to the plants festooned all around us. A guest had just arrived from Denver and still had her luggage with her because she wanted her first stop to be here. She had the same relaxed and happy smile across her face as everyone else. The food arrived. We had already scarfed down the kale chips. Addictively good. The ingredients were so fresh each ingredient danced around and landed beautifully with each bite. A crunch, a spice, a surprise were all where they needed to be on my tastebuds. Really tasty!
