At the beginning of the night, I requested 90's Hip Hop. He said, "This is 90's Hip Hop." I said, "I've never heard this song before." He said rudely, "That's not my problem." We were the only people on the dance floor for most of the night. The music was terrible and eventually, it became a chore to dance. We were dancing to excercise but spent the night making fun of the music by dancing as terribly as possible. What is the point of DJing if you're only going to play music that empties your dance floor? Hope we never see this DJ again. He was rude his music stunk.

Compared to other swing dancing places, this one is remarkable due to the high level of skills of most dancers. Practically all follows will easily execute a beautiful swingout at a high tempo; most leads will nicely interpret the music. The downside of this is an atmosphere of high expectations from the partner. Highly recommended (and rated accordingly) for a skilled swing dancer; not the best place for a beginner lead (even an advanced beginner). The dancing floor is not large, but was quite spacious for the number of dancers on the day I visited: about 30 total, with a close to equal split between the leads and the follows. First half an hour (8:30PM to 9PM) is used for a brief workshop that can be of interest to the intermediate dancers (and is totally useless for a beginner). Logistics: The dance occurs in the Sunnyvale Community Center and costs $9 (DJ music), with parking truly ample and free. An important hint: unless you are familiar with the layout of the Center, enter North parking lot from the Michelangelo Drive, and watch for multiple cars (the lot is otherwise typically pretty empty at this time) and direction signs to the Theater/Performing Arts. We brought him a few different first dance song ideas and he helped us narrow down which he would think would work the best. He put together a beautiful choreography for our romantic love song that we selected for our dance. Tommy was very accommodating to the changes and constraints we had along the learning process. After a few practices we learned that my train would be dragging on the ground even when bustled, which made walking backwards in any part of the choreography not feasible. Tommy helped us determine alternative choreography that got around this issue relatively easily. We learned the two and half minute choreography over six 45-minute sessions. He was very fun to work with and very good at teaching the steps, as well as helping us fine tune the movements to make it look as good as possible.
