My husband and I had dinner here two weeks ago for the first time and really loved the food. We are both very good cooks (restaurant biz) but what we have a hard time doing is buying good fish retail! So it was an utter treat to each have our own perfectly seasoned and perfectly fresh and perfectly grilled branzino!! (Mouth watering as I type!) We let the waiter know that we like our fish gently cooked and it was superbly moist! I had asked about the fish availability when I called that day for a reservation. We started by sharing the octopus app and calamari app--they were both SO good!! The quality of the products and the expertise of the Chef/Owner really came through. We stopped at The Wine Rack on Essex St. and got an excellent Greek white for $17 that the shop's owner put a quick chill on for us. We chatted with the Chef after dinner and I believe he attended CIA and has a serious resume but even more importantly--the dude cares about the product he buys and he knows how to cook! thank you, Chef! We didn't really have a big expectation and just needed a restaurant where we could meet and talk. Based on the reviews we chose EVOO & Lemon. Wow, it was such an unexpected surprise (in a good way). The decor/atmosphere was just right for my liking; simple yet pretty. Hektor Dajo, the owner, was very attentive from the time we walked into the restaurant to the time we left. We ordered the grilled octopus and mussels for appetizer. For entree, we ordered the branzino and scallops with a side of sauteed spinach. We thought we ordered too much food and were worried we couldn't finish everything. To our surprise, we couldn't stop eating and ended up clearing every plate. The food was amazing. We had a great dining experience at EVOO & Lemon and I believe Hektor made a wonderful birthday dinner memory for my friend. I'll definitely be back! read more

I was a big fan of 12 Islands, which is what this place used to be. It was far superior and I won't be back here. This place is missing a few things. First of all, they have a virtually empty restaurant and ask everyone if they have reservations. If you don't, they sit you by the door. If it's a nice day, that's not bad. It was below freezing on the night we went and the front of the restaurant was not heated. This could be a very different review if we were sitting in the back dining room. Second of all, the staff was not behaving in a manor that made any of the patrons feel welcome. They waiters and the kitchen staff are yelling at each other right in the middle of it all. We also watched them ignore some tables around us that were waiting for the checks. The table next to us had to ask for something multiple times. At the end of the meal we asked for our check twice. Third, the kitchen works very slowly and made stupid errors. We ordered two entrees. Basic grilled fish entrees with no appetizers and it took upwards of half an hour before we saw our food. The side of potatoes we ordered arrived cold. The seasonal vegetable that was supposed to accompany my dish was nowhere to be found. I had to wait 10 minutes to get someone's attention to send back the potatoes and then remind them about my vegetable. The Dover sole was ok and my husbands salmon entree looked good. My boyfriend and I went to EVOO & Lemon tonight after reading the wonderful reviews on Yelp and I have to say...it was even bette me than we expected. Hector, the owner, was spot on with his recommendations, the Octopus appetizer was perfectly prepared. This is not an easy seafood to prefect. He also checked on us several times to make sure everything was to our liking, as well as getting to know us. It's wonderful to see an owner taking so much pride in what he serves his customers. The food was good-enjoyed the whole branzino, which you can get either on the bone or filleted and presented with head and tail, and the angry shrimp with fettucini (not super spicy). The man at the next table had a beautifully served tiger shrimp, head on, but he said it was difficult to eat. The portions were generous. But the service was spotty, bordering on the inept. The 3 servers would offer something, such as lemon for our water when we arrived, but not remember to deliver it until the appetizer arrived, or fail to deliver something requested at all. Asked for water 4 times during the main course. Some tables were offered a bottle of tap water, but unfortunately, we were not one of them. By the time we asked for the bill, it became a game to see how many servers we'd ask for it. Answer: 3 times. The back room at 7:30 to 8:30 PM on a Friday and with all tables occupied was so noisy I couldn't hear my husband across the table unless he shouted. We didn't want to share our conversation with people at the neighboring people...unfortunately we had to listen to theirs. Perhaps the front room facing the street where the kitchen is located is quieter. I wanted to like it, finding more and more nice Greek restaurants with fresh fish selections, but I don't think we'll try this one again. read more

Very excited EVOO & Lemon has come to town! Went with a friend and we were both very impressed. We had some spreads for appetizers - the Taramosalata was incredible. The pita bread was excellent and had a yummy spice on it. We also had the Salmon and the Seafood Couscous which were both delicious. The salmon was cooked and spiced perfectly. The couscous was pearl/Israeli which is my favorite. The meals are a normal sized portion, not too big, not too small. Service was fantastic, we will definitely be back! read more

Great restaurant for healthy, clean eating! Could definitely tell the food was cooked using lemon, olive oil, garlic, fresh herbs... very light and not greasy. Was able to follow my dairy and gluten-free diet easily here. Seafood was VERY fresh- I had the grilled tiger shrimp which were phenomenal and others in my party enjoyed their seafood as well. The appetizers here are really good especially the little paddies made with beef and lamb. It has yoghurt at the bottom and is really amazing. The scallops, salmon and other seafood dishes are also very good. You can bring your own wine and it is causal and the price is reasonable. I think the quality of the ingredients they use is very good and one time they forgot one dish and when we reminded them that we had ordered it, they gave it to us free - even though we said it wasn't necessary. Really enjoyed this restaurant. It has the potential to become a five star restaurant. The service was very attentive, although not professional, e.g. when removing dirty plates, we were asked if we wanted clean knives and forks instead of just replacing them without asking. We all had the Signature Salad, which was very good except that the beets were canned instead of fresh. Two of us had scallops, which were EXCELLENT!! Only complaint was that I thought the risotto was a little watery. We were given complimentary appetizers, and when we lingered after dinner (we were the only customers), they brought us watermelon and strawberries. What a fantastic upscale Greek restaurant. Stumbled upon it while walking around Milburn. Staff couldn't have been friendlier and the owner chef took the time to talk and even sent over a complimentary appy which we can't wait to return and eat again. Food simply delish. The Shrimp Santorini had Shrimp the size of lobster tails. I who am known to be not fond of hummus, scoffed it up. Place is decorated with calming neutral colors and oozes charm. I'm picky about Octopus but it was cooked perfectly and a very generous portion - by far one of the best I've ever had. The Tzatziki was on point and served with warm pita bread.
