The burger was juicy and perfectly seasoned, and the fries were so tasty I couldn't stop eating them. The shrimp scampi over orzo rice was fresh and full of flavor. The ambiance is great, and the restaurant can easily accommodate large groups. We came with a large group, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. It's a cute place in Livingston that I have never noticed before. I was meeting a bunch of people for lunch who picked the place. I had to look around when I got there and follow the signs to figure out where it is. (FYI- it's on the second floor) I had no idea the town center shopping and stores even had a second floor. There were parking spots in front of all the stores but I couldn't find any nearby (lunchtime hours) so I parked by the back and walked. I took the stairs up to the restaurant but it said they have an elevator also. (I didn't notice it though) The food, staff, and service were good and I had a nice time. I want to start by saying my server Chris is by far the kindest person I've ever met at a restaurant. He is one of the reasons we continue to go back to Thavma. We need more people like him in the world! With that being said, my family absolutely LOVES this restaurant. We come here often for lunch on the weekends and the food is cooked to perfection. So many notable items on the menu: WHY IS THEIR TZATZIKI SO FREAKING GOOD? ITS SO ADDICITING!! Shish-Kabobs: Authentic Greek skewers consisting of chicken, shrimp, steak or lamb. Or falafel or veggies if you prefer. These come with generous portions of pita, greek salad, fries and tzatziki. What's not to love? I like to do two skewers and switch roasted potatoes in place of fries Grilled Calamari: Always so fresh with squeezed lemon. The little rings are cooked perfectly, tender and soft. They have never been overcooked here. Oregano Wings: These are baked wings but you could have told me they are fried. They are sooooo crispy and juicy. The tzatziki pairs incredibly well on these. I saw someone get the Gyro/Flatbread Wrap and it looked huge and amazing. I will try that next time. While it may be considered a touch pricier for the area, its basically half the price of what you would pay in Manhattan fwiw The vibe is nice cand calm. I always get takeaway from here! I usually get the falafel, spinach rice, and lemon potatoes. It's delicious and I usually get two meals out of it. I've gotten the spinach dip before and it was mid. This is my 3rd time coming here. There's nothing not to like about this restaurant. The decor is very thoughtful and you do feel like you are somewhere in the Mediterranean. The service is usually good. I would not say the food is cheap but you get quality food and a decent portion. Me and my wife went to Greece long time ago and we were in love with the Moussaka. I visited Thavma during the week for an early dinner. With a modern, welcoming interior and delicious food, I can see why the place started filling up quickly! They start you with complimentary pita- soft, fresh and delicious. We ordered the Thavma chips which were crisp and tasty and served with fresh tzatziki, and I got the lamb burger as my entree (subbed Greek fries for sweet potato fries). Overall the food was enjoyable albeit a bit pricy- $12 for the zucchini chips and $20 for the burger. We finished our meal with the galaktoboureko (a custard style dessert with phyllo dough - yum!) for dessert. Worth a stop to get your Greek food fix! read more

Would not recommend their lamb, in any form. Ordered a lamb wrap medium rare to go and it was covered in tzatziki (with none at the end) and had a soggy pita as a result. After taking the majority of the tzatziki off so I could disperse it evenly, and biting into the lamb, the lamb itself was basically raw. It was impossible to bite and was incredibly chewy. Half of it was inedible and I left those chunks. I tried my dad's lamb chop and his was ordered medium but biting into it was like it was been smoked. Something was so off about the texture and I couldn't finish that either. I imagine if i had eaten there then the pita would have been in better shape and the rest of the flavor profiles were good so they got a star back for that but stay far far away from the lamb. read more

Despicable service. Waiters are rude and managers don't do their job. The manager was openly ignoring me as I was waiting to be seated in the middle of what was a completely empty restaurant with three customers at most. After I was finally seated, he didn't even give me the option of looking at the dinner menu. The waitress was even more rude, completely unattentive to requests and with a very bad attitude. For our most recent order we all got Greek salads and an order of fries to share. The portion size of the salad is outstanding and my added protein Octopus was very yummy. We had a terrific dinner at Thavma. I loved almost everything I ate and so did everyone else at the table. We ordered quite a few appetizers to start and the only one I did not particularly care for was the grilled octopus. It was too chewy for my tastes. The spanakopita had leek in it and tasted great. I also enjoyed the saganaki and Greek sausage. My entree was a chicken and broccoli dish over pasta (I do not remember the name). I thought it was great! My only regret was that I was so thoroughly stuffed that I could not finish it all. It tasted great the next day by the way. Thavma is BYOB so plan accordingly. There is also plenty of parking, both on the street and in a free garage. It was warm in there, so don't wear that extra layer in the winter! You should check this place out! read more

Honestly, My wife and I have never stepped foot in the restaurant. However, we have been getting takeout from there since it was "It's Greek to Me". They had great Gyros. The owners split off from the small chain, revamped their menus to get out of their non-compete agreement. It went downhill during the restructuring and then came back even better! My wife and I order from them about once per month as Thavma is on our list of favorites. Their Chicken Brokola, Chicken Santorini, Chicken Fresco are all excellent. Their hummus is authentic as is their Tzatziki. The Shrimp Scampi is a favorite as is their Spinach Dip, Thavma Chips, and Falafel. The wraps are really good, tasty and filling. Get the Greek Fries, but ask for them Well Done. The only thing I wish they would do is bring back the Gyros. The only place around to get good ones is the Greek Orthodox Church, but sadly, that is only one weekend a year. I am sure their non-compete has long since ended. Thavma owners, are you listening? As to the naysayers who think it is not authentic, phooey! Nonsense! It is as authentic as can be had in the States. The oven baked wings are really oily, but really tasty. A couple spins in a centrifuge could help. Other than that, we haven't had anything that was bad or even mediocre. So much better in quality and price than Lithos. read more

I've only ever eaten one item from this menu which is their version of a Gyro a steak wrap on pita bread with red onions and tomatoes and tzatziki And I add lettuce I've eaten here twice the food it's fine but my experience with The take out stuff has been unpleasant on both occasions that I visited this restaurant and I work in the area. And only have limited options to where I can eat in this happen to be one of them because of the close proximity to my job. I wanted to update this because I haven't had any issues with orders the last few times I've gone. The food has always been tasty, it's my go-to restaurant when I visit back home from Manhattan. I get the greek salad with Salmon and it's my favorite salad ever. I love the way they charr the salmon so that it's quite crispy. This is my parents' hometown Greek place. I moved away before they opened, but in terms of consistently good food at a reasonable price (not cheap, mind you) and a welcoming atmosphere, there's nothing around for miles except Italian places that can touch it. (It's Livingston. Italian places are everywhere.) I've eaten a wide range of things here. I've had the octopus when I feel sassy, the avgolemono when I feel sick. I've had chicken, seafood, pita. The pita bread is on the thin and soft side of delicious, but it still has nice taste despite the consistency. Food quantities are plentiful. I wouldn't say this is the "absolute most authentic" Greek place around, but it's very good. No need to go to Montclair or Denville, West Essex has their hometown Greek place set. (BTW - always busy, rarely too busy. Sign that they're very good at restauranting.) read more

The lemon chicken soup tasted like lemon rind, the spanakopita was soggy, the $24 dish of steak shish kabob gave me nothing but the over cooked steak, hard onion over cooked pepper slices and nothing else. Had dinner there at 5:30 on a Saturday night. The food was very good, and the service was prompt and attentive.

I was in the area visiting (on my way out of town) & looking for something that I could eat in the car for lunch. Greek food is one of my favorites so I consulted Yelp and decided to try their kofta wrap with a side of sweet potato fries. I placed my ordered online and arrived 10 minutes prior to the quoted pickup time. A very friendly gentleman greeted me and led me to the hostess stand to pay. The gentleman I paid was also very friendly and asked me to take a seat to wait. The restaurant was not busy (a Sunday around 12:30 p). I did not wait more than 10 minutes before my lunch was packed and I was "off". The kofta was a challenge to pick up and eat (while driving) due to the tzatziki that was poured at the "top"/opening of the wrap. I had forgotten that Greek wraps are usually not very tightly wrapped. I used a fork to eat some of the tomatoes and onions that were at the opening and used about 4 of the 6 pretty thick napkins they provided (thank goodness) to pick up the wrap which was wrapped in wax paper. The tzatziki was excellent, not too thick and a nice compliment to the spices in the kofta. The kofta was very tender and flavorful. Since most of the tzatziki was at the opening, I found the kofta toward the bottom of the wrap somewhat too salty for me. I would have preferred the tzatziki be present throughout. There was a very generous portion of kofta for the price ($8.95). The side of sweet potato fries ($2) were outstanding! Thick, hot and most importantly, crispy and flavorful! Some of the best I've ever had. A great value for the quantity and quality, highly recommend. They are located on the 2nd floor in cute plaza. Signage on the street level helped me find them.
