I took my 2014 VW Jetta in for it's 100,000 mile service just days before I was going drive across the country. I was a little concerned about a big service event so close to my trip. My worries were unwarranted. Shortly after dropping off the car the Excel team emailed me a list (with prices) of items in need of attention, including some nuisance things I'd learned to live with. I heard of this place through a coworker so I decided to try them out with my 2008 Lexus LS 460 ..it currently has the abs, traction control light and one other light illuminated on my dash. I've never been a person that can ride around with lights on my dash so I decided to get it fixed..I called Cliff at Excel around the time when Houston was dealing with the freeze, and he said his shop was backed up due to the freeze but let him check the availability at his other location...they were available so I took my car the next day...when I arrived at this location, I was greeted by a friendly guy named Chris...he explained everything and told me he would be in touch with me, as they learn what's causing the issues with my car..so in the process, I received a few calls from Chris stating he thinks it needs this part, then that part and another part. By now the bill is at $2900 and then he says he thinks this other part that cost $3400 will probably fix the issue...I stopped at $2900 and told him to put my car back together so I can pick it up. He called me the next day to say it was put back together and my car was fixed.. I was pleasantly surprised that it was fixed, so gladly picked it up later that evening...I only drive this car to work, 22 miles a day..one month after the repairs and $2900 bill, all the lights were back on..I reached out to Chris to let him know and he asked me to bring it back to him so they can make sure none of the parts they installed had failed...I informed him that I would bring it back on my next vacation which was the April 14 week...dropped it off per Chris on the 15th ..I picked it up today 4/17 and the lights are still on..they assured me that the parts they changed out were necessary, but somehow it's hard for my brain to calculate that since the parts didn't fix anything...I feel like I drove all the way from Humble to the SW side to drop off $2900 for absolutely nothing...from the first visit thru this visit of this shop, they've had my car for 2 weeks...I'm not telling anyone not to go to this shop, just understand they will play the guessing game with you if you allow them...I will not be going back to this place ever again... read more

I have no idea why it's taken me so long to review Excel... everyone in my family (even ex-family members) have been going to Jay for years. Not only is Jay absolutely the nicest, most kind-hearted person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, he (and his team) are also very efficient and accurate. From a beat-up ford ranger to an aging Jaguar to a new Infinity, Honda and Z, he's tackled them all. He even fully restored my mom's old VW Bug from her high school days. I'm confident it looks better now than it did decades ago. Most importantly, at least for me, is how honest and forthcoming they are. Here is the fixed wheel (I did not think to get a picture of the damage but it was gouged up around 90% of the lip of wheel from rubbing the curb). This place is amazing. Period. Anytime I have vehicle related issues I absolutely dread taking it anywhere even just for an oil change! I feel like everyone is always out to scam you out of as much money as possible. Not here! First off Jay is amazing. Friendly, down to earth, and above all HONEST. As soon as I showed him my problem his first response was to save me some money and provide me with a cheaper alternative to my body work. Something he wasn't even going to make much money off of if any at all. But once again he laid out all my options up front, just like that. In my experience that's unheard of. I usually get told the most expensive option first and feel like it's take it or leave it. Truth be told the shop down the street quoted me three TIMES the amount Jay did and would have taken longer. Money is not an issue for me, I will spend what is necessary. But in the automotive world the lines are too blurry and it leaves a lot of room to be taken advantage of, something which I DO have a problem with. If Jay would have told me it would cost me ten times that amount, I would still have gone with him because of the level of trust I had that he would do the right thing no matter what. When someone treats you well, you want to return the favor so I will do so with a fantastic review. In my case, Jay Meir of Excel Automotive saved me over $600, 3 days of my time and plenty of inconvenience. Let me explain. My vehicle driver door began to make a very loud popping noise every time it was opened or closed. I contacted Sterling McCall Toyota (the dealership where it was purchased) and they told me it was beyond their onsite repair and needed to be taken to the Sterling McCall Restoration Center. There I was told it was a weld that had come loose inside the door. The repair would be $500 and three days of car rentals while the repair was being done. Needless to say I didn't schedule the repair. Searches resulted in many shops that could do this extensive welding repair, but few had more than a 3-star review. Excel Automotive Technology was not only close, but had many exceptional reviews from very satisfied customers. I stopped in after work today. Jay took one look, said "I'll be right back." and walked off to grab tools. He returned, worked on the door (hinge area) for a couple minutes, stood up and asked me to shut the door. It was fixed. Yes, fixed. He said he's seen the problem before with Toyota's. (He replaced a nut (or bolt?) that helps hold the arm in place that had loosened and fallen off. I asked him what I owed him and he said "Nothing." and smiled. "But you saved me over $600!" Again, he said oh, it's nothing and smiled. I dropped off my car this morning at 7:15 a.m., the owner, Jay, drove me to work in the Greenway Plaza area, where I was at my desk before 7:30 a.m. He called a couple of hours later explaining the recommended repairs and the cost. I took my car in for an issue that had been diagnosed by a dealership that wanted to rip me off on the repair. I knew enough about what was required to know that they were attempting to overcharge me by quite a bit. I decided to give Jay and Excel a try, and I am very glad I did. I told them what the repair was that would be required, but Jay asked permission to double-check in case he could find that the problem could be resolved with a less expensive solution. I recently wrote a review for Excel on Google and Excel's website but I am so excited to have actually found a knowledgeable, honest and caring auto mechanic that I want to make sure people know where to take their auto problems to a mechanic shop that actually cares about their customer! I found this mechanic through another of his customer that ran into my car and had it fixed at Excel. It was the luckiest car accident I've ever had. Not only did he fix my car (his other client paid for it), but he noticed a bunch of dings on my car and said he could order the matching paint and take care of them. And, he noticed that my shield was hanging from the front bumper that a previous mechanic had negligently left half off. When I went to pick the car up, he gave me the paint pen for future dings - I didn't spend one cent on anything! Jay was so sweet and helpful that when I had another problem with my car, I decided to take it back to him instead of the dealership. Again, he found a couple of problems, one of which I attributed to the previous mechanic. I dreaded picking up the car because I thought it was going to be high-dollar job. The cost was so reasonable that I couldn't believe it! This garage earned my business because of the way I was treated from the very first phone call. Unlike the first garage who wouldn't give me an "estimate" of the repairs I needed done, saying they would "have to look at it first"...un hunh....Excel gave me a quote over the phone. I had the parts I needed priced already on my own before I even called and that price was the same Excel quoted me on..... Complete with the estimate I received, they were spot on with the bill. I took my car into them at 12 minutes after 8 for the rear suspension. About four to four and a half hours later I received a phone call that my car was finished. Excel took the time and answered several questions I had regarding future repairs, and I was even able to look at the old parts that came off. (I just wanted to see just HOW bad my old shock was leaking). Over the years I have always waited with my vehicle while something was being repaired, however Excel is just open M-F, not on the weekends, which didn't really coincide with my schedule. I still went there though because every review I read had nothing but positive things to say about the business. They will have me as a loyal customer from now on if it is something I cannot fix on my own. I highly recommend this garage if you want honesty integrity and professionalism!! read more
