Do Not Go Here! Pretty simple transaction. Device Installation. The man ,Sung GU No, answering the phone I'm assuming is the owner, was rude from the beginning. I had my vehicle towed for an installation. And I set up another tow to pick up my vehicle when it was done. There is confusion about payment. Excel is contracted by another company for installations. I tell this already rude man, not a problem, happy to pay. I offer my card number. He refuses the card. He says he wants cash or a for me to bring the card. I have set this day up specifically to not lose my time to take care very serious matters. I can not drive the car. It is against the law to drive the car. Something he demands I do. He threatens to tow my car if I do not come down with cash or my card. There is no point to be there. As a customer, I now have to uber, schedule another tow truck because this person refused to take payment in a way I speculate, he does not understand. Except now to cater to this persons inflated ego. I paid for services and setup my day to not be wasted in such a way. Now he is threatening to tow my car out of spite. Avoid this place! Thousands of other auto businesses to support that don't waste your time over non issues. He does not understand phone payments or internet transaction capabilities. Do not go here. This review is in regards to my car tinting experience at Excel. The car is a new 2013 BMW X6. After reading the reviews, I figure Excel "seems professional" and can do a good job on car tint. BOY WAS I WRONG - STAY AWAY! DO NOT GO THERE! I called them ahead and asked about tinting 2 front windows only (since the back came with factory tint). I was quoted $50 over the phone for the tint. The price was reasonable and comparable with other tint shops. So about 2 weeks later, when I finally had time, I dropped by to see the place and to talk to the guys there. I informed the owner that I was looking to tint the cars two front windows and I would like to try to match factory tint. Of course, I know an exact match would be impossible (unless I use the exact same films etc), but I would like to come as close as possible. The owner was nice enough to show me a bunch of different shades and see which one works best. Once I selected one that was the closest in shade, he informed me that it was going to be $70 for the tint. I told him that I called a couple weeks back and he only said $50. Then he starts going into the 'quality' of the films are different, etc. but I was thinking if this guy is going to pull a fast one, no thank you. I told the owner that I'd think about it and was getting ready to leave. He then told me he can do it for $60 and he can do it right away and be done in like 30-40 minutes. I thought about it and for $10 extra dollars, if he can do a professional job right at the moment where I don't have to come back - then I'm fine with that. TIME & GAS is money after-all. So the owner and a younger employee started working on the tint. I noticed that they were quite "Speedy" at it. Like I mentioned before, no problem with it, if they can do a pro job. Like he said, the tint was done in about 40 minutes. However after the tint, I noticed there were a bunch of small air bubbles and dust particles. I brought this up to the owner and he said "No need to worry, a couple days later, it will be gone". I'm no expert on tinting but I do have experience with tinting on previous cars and stuff. I told him, if anything pops up I'd be back and the owner said "no problem, come back and I will take good care of you" So I left and drove off to work. After work, I get back into the car and I noticed ALOT of PROBLEMS. Alot more tiny air bubbles, dust particles (assuming they didn't do a good clean) and just sh*tty work. (Look - I'm not OCD and I'm fairly reasonable but if I can count over a dozen of these spots ON BOTH WINDOWS .... its gotta be bad). Due to work, I'm unable to take it right back to the owner. However a couple days later when the moisture is suppose to be gone and everything is suppose to be settled - I took it back to the shop and the owner quickly fixed the big bubbles. I asked him about the other 'bubbles/tiny air pockets" and he said "OH don't worry, it'd be gone soon". I give it a couple more days and work got busy. I wasn't able to go back until 8-9 days after tinting. When I got back, I told him all the issues and the owner was like "no, no issues" and started going off saying how "no professional can do it like I want", "they do it good", "no problem (feels like I'm the one over-reacting) ....... I told him, I have had 4 cars done and I know what they are suppose to look like .... this was becoming a TINTING HELL After a few minutes of pointing out all the bubbles/spots - which was alot ... the owner said - "I can give your money back or I can re-do it." I debated about it and I was about to ask for refund ..... the owner then offered to re-do everything. I thought - fine, let them take care of it. So the owner's crew took off the first film and started to apply 2nd film. I have to say, they did do a better job the 2nd time around. HOWEVER - it still was shitty. Granted there was much less spots/bubbles, but there were still some. After they did the 2nd film, even my brother and neighbor saw the tint and they all said 'damn its still bad!' when they took a closer look at it. Enough was enough, so I made an appointment with ROB'S TINTING in Culver city and took it there to redo the tint! They have over 100+ positive reviews on yelp. When I took the car there, the employee at Rob's tinting pointed out some stuff that happened as a result of the sh*tty job from Excel: 1) they cut off a stretch of the rubber panel in the glass area 2) the younger employee over heated and burnt the plastic panel in the passenger side front door area 3) the younger employee cut/scratch the door frame area with his cutter when cutting the film The small spots and bubbles are hard to take pictures, otherwise I would have full album of the poor work. See the pics I was able to take and posted up! So if you want to pay for a bad tint, waste your time driving back and forth, and get your car damaged in the process - then yes, you should go to Excel. IF NOT, then STAY VERY FAR AWAY!! read more

This place is ridiculously fantastic. I can say this for sure... the people rating this place under 5 stars either have absolutely no experience or knowledge on car electronics, or they've never gotten window tint before. First of all, John is amazing. You call him over the phone, give him info on your car and what you want, and he'll give you an estimate. The prices are seriously reasonable. FARRRR within range of being budget friendly, but still allowing the business to make a profit. If you're looking for a place to tint your whole car for $99, stfu & gtfo. Go buy your own d*mn tint and learn to do it yourself. There's a reason why getting your car tinted actually costs money. Prepping the windows, having the experience to properly razor cut the tint to your windows shape, getting the bubbles out (and doing it correctly so the bubbles don't appear), etc etc blah blah... go do research and you'll see why people pay to have their cars tinted. And for the other people who have reviewed this shop and complained about teeny tiny bubbles on their tint installation... uhhh if you ever even got tint before, you'd know that those tiny bubbles disappear eventually. If the air bubbles get BIGGER, THENNN you can take it back to John and he'll fix it asap because he's an honest guy (and the tint job has lifetime warranty so hold onto your receipt). I know this is long but bear with me. Anyway, John will show you what type of tints they have and what % you want on your car. Easy. You pick, he nods, they do work. I also had my subwoofer and amplifier installed at the same time. They installed it EXACTLY how I wanted it to. No questions, no "blah blah you shouldn't do it this way"... they do it your way and that's seriously the only way that matters. Perfect, presto, pesto sauce. Now here is the money shot. There is one super mega electronics (blue and yellow) corporation store (synonym of "#1 Purchase"... think about that for a second) that I visited to get a quote on only the subwoofer installation. This place quoted me $535 JUST FOR THE SUBWOOFER INSTALLATION. Are you freaking insane. Were they going to give me a mani & pedi while they were installing it or something? Where do they even get their pricing?? I paid John nearly half of that for BOTH the tint AND subwoofer installation. And uh no... the price isn't cheap because he uses cheap materials or does a shoddy job. Everything SCREAMS quality, quality, quality. Also, on top of that, that big Blue & Yellow store said the subwoofer installation was going to take 3 freaking hours. WHY 3 HOURS? Were they going to wash, wax, serenade, wine & dine my car or something? John finished BOTH the tint and subwoofer installation in LESS THAN 2 HOURS. W.T.F. Anyway, I seriously r8 this place 8/8 m8. I luh dis place. It luvs me 2 I tink. On a side note, in case you don't have someone to pick you up and don't know what to do while waiting for whatever job you're getting done at the shop, there's this nice coffee shop called Caffe Bene in the plaza right next to their place (the plaza with BCD, Cyberlab, Arby's, blah blah). I've brought six cars here to get tinted. Yes you read that right, six! My own, my mother's, my sister's, and 3 friends. An older Asian gentleman owns this place and remembers me each time I come. The last time I came, he had two assistants, with one helping with customers. He has better English than the Asian and that may explain why he's the communicator, though the Asian deals with transactions. There is a 5-year guarantee on the tints here. One of my tints began to come off, though the reason why it came off may be partly my fault: I was driving in the middle of a snowstorm and the defroster in my car wasn't working! So I had to roll the windows down to see where I was driving and this made the tint glue not do it's job. I brought my car in and the Asian replaced the tint (only one needed to be replaced) for free. read more

Owner has horrible communication skills and is easily wound up. Dont mention warranty with him or you will get a heated answer. Sloppy window tinting, there was soapy water residue all over my door panel of my brand new car. Had to get tint replaced under warranty and he was rude and loud. Sound system related they have a poor selection and do not know how to set up a good sounding system. Sloppy wiring and install work. Dont waste your time like I have. Ive given this shop a few jobs to do and have not been impressed by the work. Being a repeat customer and getting poor service is a clear indication that they do not appreciate their customers. read more

I had my car stereo system installed here. I shopped around for a good quote for a Sub+Amp+speakers and a headunit bracket, and this place gave me the best quote with a good Yelp reputation. The installation was very clean and professional, as Valentin is an experienced installer who know what he's doing. My stereo system now sounds great. I would give 5 stars, but I had to visit the shop 3 times to get everything installed the way I wanted to. I would make sure that you clear out what you want in the first meeting, so that there are no confusions later on. Had a great experience with this place yesterday. I have a 2017 F 250 in need of some bumps. Stopped by Best Buy and another local shop which for some odd reason both referee me to Al & Ed. No offense to Al but it's on the other side of town. I looked up excel which was right near our office and had almost 5 stars. Pulled up at 3:30 on fri Done by 5:15 less than 2hrs! They did a terrible job on my son's car. Apparently, they don't check their work. We had to take the car back two additional times. First, there was so much interference and static, you could barely hear the stereo. They charge him for an additional part to fix it. Once they fixed that problem, only the right channel sound could be heard. WTF! had to leave the car for a couple more hours to have that fixed. The owner, I think, was apologetic when I ended up calling him to complain and picked the car up but still, I would not recommend this place to anyone I know. I can't believe it has such high ratings. Maybe the car was difficult to work with but still, to let the car leave their shop in the condition they did, no excuses! read more

I called and asked how much it would be to tint my front two windows. The guy quoted me $40 (NOT BAD) so I made an appoint for 5pm. I got there at 5:03 and they were just starting on another car.. The owner said the car before me showed up late and he asked me to come back the next day. I told him I made an appointment for a reason, I left work early to get my car taken care of that day. He said he would only charge me $30 if I came back the next day. I told him never mind, I'll take my car somewhere else. He then said they would stay later to get it done. I ended up waiting for about 45 min and when they finally got to my car they did a RUSH job. Ended up with a razor mark on the driver side (similar to other pictures posted) and a bubble on the passenger side. I don't even want to go back for them to fix it. Awesome place for tint. Got the front two windows of my truck tinted up since the back windows already come tinted stock. Very well priced and great customer service. My drivers side window had a small piece of lent in between the glass and Tint that I noticed two hours after they put it on. I immediately took it back, pointed it out, and they pulled the tint sheet, and put a new one immediately. They were very apologetic, and since I have OCD about small details, I was very pleased by the way they solved the problem. I didn't have to argue, complain, nothing.
