I really wanted to give more stars but... I have two criteria for ever leaving a ONE star. 1. Was it awkward even though I communicated well. Yes, this was awkward. 2. Did I sense the business cares more about money then it's own product or customer experience. In this case I believe they did. I'm careful when leaving other minority owed businesses negative reviews because sometimes it's a culture difference or a miscommunication, or it could be they just don't get our culture at all but I'm a mixed Asian myself and really tried to be thoughtful. My massage was $100 plus tip 90 minutes. The massage sucked. The kicker is she was trying hard but with no experience on her end, the experience can be miserable on my end. You get what you pay for. For me the worst part was, I asked them specifically I needed to be worked below the knees, like calves and feet. I stand all day for my job on concrete and it would have been nice to work out the knots. After I was dressed and in the lobby, I was asked how it was, I told them gently how I was really put off by not getting the work done that I asked for. The massage person stormed off when she saw I put away about half the tip I wanted to leave. If she spoke any English I would have told her while in the room. But only the gentleman at the counter spoke English and then relayed the message to her. I hope this place understands that in order to massage you need to listen to the customer's needs as long as they are reasonable. I went here for the first time yesterday with my boyfriend. We did a deep tissue 90 minute couples massage. First, I'd like to say the massage was five star. Yuki was my therapist and she did a great job getting the knots out of my neck and back. I was feeling very banged up after lots of travel, stress, and a bad snowboarding fall over the weekend. She offered cupping as an additional service and this seems to be helping as well. I woke up feeling so much better this morning than I did yesterday. I will definitely be back. Some of the negative reviews for ambience are accurate. The doorbell does buzz whenever somebody comes in and out, and that can be disruptive to a peaceful massage. The neck cradle on the table is not very comfortable. It's a table with a hole and a pillow around it. There was also just paper towel acting as a shield between the pillow and my face. Paper towel is rough and not a great barrier. Spending just a tiny bit of money on proper pillowcases would be a pretty big upgrade. It is a little bit weird to pay upfront, but I'm OK with that. I paid for the massage when we walked in, but I did not tip until after the massage. The price was appropriate. The massage was excellent and the ambience was more of a 3.5 star. Overall, I'm OK with paying a good for a great massage and not overpaying for a spa experience. read more

I gave them a 5% tip and they questioned me about it - hey you haven't even given me a massage yet, how am I supposed to know what to tip? Just stopped by as a walk in, my partner and I wanted a 30min foot massage. They brought us both back and we started to soak our feet. She then came in and asked if we were paying cash or card- I answered card and she asked me to pay before the service started. I already had my socks and shoes off soaking in the water and was questioning why I needed to pay first before the service started. She kept saying the owner is asking for us to pay first. She said she would just take my card to the front to pay, I refused that option because I didn't feel comfortable. She then brought in someone's old raggedy flip flops and told me to slip those on and get up and pay. While I'm sure the hotel's spa would have been luxurious, my boyfriend and I didn't want to spend a small fortune to relieve our aching muscles before flying back to LA in the morning. Enter "Excellent Massage," a place around the corner from where we were staying. To be honest, it looked a little suspect from the outside, but after reading the reviews, we decided to give it a chance and booked a couples' massage for that evening. The room was simple and clean and I have to say this: I've had all kinds of massages in Los Angeles, from luxury spas to Korean spas to physical therapy professional massage. This was probably the BEST one either he or I have ever received. We upgraded to the $70 hot stone package, so it was $140 for both of us. They asked us to pay up front, so we decided we would tip after receiving the massages. Two women came into our room and began by applying pressure on the back through a small sheet, but after, they use their hands and massage your back, arms, legs, hands, and feet (for which I appreciated she used gloves, though bf didn't even notice because they still use the lotion). The hot stones and warm towels were so relaxing and most importantly, it was probably also the most thorough massage we've ever had. . They gave us each a bottle of water on the way out and our achy muscles were so happy. Please don't judge this little strip mall spot; true, it's not a pampering "spa" massage, but it's soooooo worth the low cost. One suggestion: bring your own wireless earbuds, because there was no relaxing music playing, They also has an iPhone alarm that seemed to go off every 15 or so minutes (likely to keep track of time), which initially startled me but then I forgot it and zoned into my massage and I could hear my bf receiving his massage right next to me, which wasn't a big deal, but I guess I've been spoiled by meditative music. In addition the therapist took it up herself to keep the chnage as a tip without asking. The time before this, we prepaid then were accused of not paying, after resolving this a tip was also "demanded" very heavily, we told them we left tips in the room and was walked backed to assure a tip was left. If I could give this place a zero star review I would. My husband and I called to make an appointment and asked for a specific massage person. A man answered the phone and said yes she is there and to come in. So we arrived and they demand payment up front. We chose 90 min massage front and back, with hot stones and added facial massage. They focused the majority of the time on the back, we did not get arms, legs, feet nothing...and they DID NOT do the hot stone on us. The facial massage ended up being a facial with serums that burnt our faces and skin. It was not worth the extra money. Upon leaving we tipped them and the lady went back to get the other lady none of which spoke a lick of english and told us you tip us more. Well we left a good tip for the service we received. They were spewing rude comments and acted like it was not good enough. I've had quite a few reflexology foot massages and this is not the place. Very uncomfortable vibe. My husband I got the 30 minute foot reflexology massage. The lady who did mine clearly did not know what she was doing. Only rubbed the arches of my feet over and over- to the point of them feeling raw. I looked over to see my husband's masseuse doing a wide variety of techniques typically expected during reflexology. However, his only lasted 20 minutes. Mine was 25. Before going in I read a couple of the 1 stars and dismissed the comments because I thought it may have been local competition writing fake reviews -- I was wrong! This was the worst massage I've ever had, and I wish I took heed to the advice other yelpers provided. To preface this review, I do have to say that I love massages and being from the Bay Area I'll go to the sketchiest Reflexology places if I know I can get a good massage (e.g.: Green Foot in Milpitas, CA). I got a couples massage with my cousin on 3/17 and I don't know if they were short staffed but the guy who checked me in, was the one that massaged me. Which didn't bug me, but here's why I'm giving this 1 star review and felt compelled to share it: - he asked what pressure, I said medium/ hard. He did very light to no pressure. It was around 1PM so I know he still had energy from the beginning of the day. - I felt like I was drenched in oil and when massage then wiping the oil, because he was rushing, he would do one side but then forget the other. This was the deal breaker for me. - he left for about 5-10 minutes and I was awake the whole time, he said he was going to give extra time and gave me a very rushed 2 minutes more because my cousin (in the same room as me) was already done and was just waiting awkwardly in the dark - the price was fairly higher than usual reflexology massage places I've been to. To be fair, my cousin actually did enjoy her massage and the "masseuses" were nice. But I was so livid by the experience I just walked out, and usually I am a really generous tipper but I let my cousin tip a normal amount.
