I have pretty advanced scoliosis and I'm on a quest to find a reliable massage spot. Tl;dr after coming here a few times, I'm still looking. It's just kinda... weird vibes?? With an appointment, I ended up waiting almost 10 minutes, while (I assumed) my room was being prepped. Guess not because the face towels that were supposed to be warm felt like scratchy dry brand new never-been-washed towels 2/3 times I visited. For my most recent, my massage was on a regular table but instead of a cloth on the face cradle, it was a paper towel....... The hall door was OPEN during the better part of my last 90 minute massage...... Hearing people talking in the hallway and wondering if they could see my body if they walked by was not peaceful. They did some interesting limb bendy stuff on me that I think was trying to emulate Thai massage style, but it was just twisting my body in odd ways that felt weird with my scoliosis (which I'd already told them I had so idk why they did that). I kept waiting for them to return back to/take extra time to focus on the areas I designated on the tablet where my back muscles reallllly need extra care after moving to my lower body, but I am pretty sure they've never looked at my diagram any of the times I've been because this experience is consistent with all 3 visits I've had there. Came across my biggest pet peeve which is having stretches of time over a minute where it feels like the masseuse is just lightly spreading oil on my skin longer than necessary to run up the time. For these reasons and others, I was quite uncomfortable at this place and won't be back a 4th time. I really wanted to give it a chance and give the benefit of the doubt with more chances but 3 bad massages is a LOT of money to drop w little return for a public school teacher. I paid for a 1 hour massage with cupping added on. I didn't even get a full hour when you combine the two services. $80 for the massage and $25 for the cupping. Let's move on to the massage. I was excited when they said I would have a male masseuse because I like deep tissue massages. I even asked for deep and to focus on my shoulders as I work at a computer all day and my stress builds up in the deep recesses of my scapulas. I've had deeper massages from my Thera gun. I made it online, confirmed via automated text, called Friday afternoon to double confirm, then confirmed again via their automated text on Saturday. They text me on Mother's Day asking if I could come later. I couldn't. We had family in town and were scheduled to meet at 3. I told them this and got no reply. I ended up booking somewhere else. This was my first visit at Sparks Massage and Reflexology and it was blissful! My therapist was Peter. I looked their website through and saw it was well built and they had a 2 hour appointment available this evening. I called to make sure, as sometimes scheduling systems can be a miss, and was delighted to be able to get in the same day! Parking was ample and it's located in a local forward and safe shopping center. Upon entrance, it immediately felt calm and relaxing. High ceilings, great ambiance and marble front desk. The woman was super kind and welcoming so I upgraded my 2 hour full body to include Chinese Herbal Oils ($172 after the $2 card fee). The rooms were standard but I appreciated how big the establishment was. Though they were next to each other, there were plenty of empty rooms on both sides were mine were located. Until about 30 minutes into my massage, the place was nice and quiet. Guests started to come in so there were a few voices for a good 3 minutes but it dissipated after everyone settled in. My therapist Peter was polite and straight to the point. He asked multiple times about his pressure and listened when I requested more attention to the knots I had below my shoulder blades. Peter was WORKING, I felt a bit bad at one point because his attention to detail meant he was using all of his energy on me. He didn't seem to mind and he had consistent pressure the entire session. There were 4 key moments during my massage that I felt so relaxed I felt like I was floating. Although thoughts kept coming in my mind, I was able to recognize them and let them float away. Very disappointed in Sparks Massage and Reflexology. I have been coming on a regular basis this last year and have recommended to friends and family. This was going to be my 6th visit and I was told that on my 6th visit I'll get $30 off. I decided to book a longer massage and when I showed up and asked about my $30 off and the lady at the front desk told me it had expired 30 days after my 5th visit. I said I was unaware about it expiring in 30 days and then showed her their website and how it doesn't say anything about 30 days. The front desk lady then told me that she could not honor the $30 so I explained that I was leaving if they weren't going to apply the coupon. My last massage was in May and now it's July-it's been two months since my last massage. My boyfriend & I came in for a couples 90min massage and WOW. We called in the morning and they were able to get us in the same day which was great. The check in process was pretty neat. You got to choose what pressure you'd like between light, medium, and hard (if you like medium, consider going light because personally the medium felt hard) and then circle the areas you'd like more focus on. The beds were so comfortable and it smelt amazing inside the rooms. We had Angela and Lucy and they did phenomenal. They were so kind and definitely worked out all the tension i was holding in my body. Full body definitely means FULL body to them. They worked the main areas i requested focus on, and also did a scalp massage, face massage, and foot massage! Which we've never gotten before with a full body massage so that was a WONDERFULL surprise. They took their time and left us feeling so relaxed externally and internally. Oh jeez, I knew this might not be *the best* massage I ever got but I am pretty sure it is up there/the worst. Basically because I have never had to yell for help during a massage before...but I will start at the beginning. I called and made an appointment to use a Groupon and I bought for a 60 minute deep tissue massage. I think the Groupon was like $65? Which is less than the cost of an hour massage ($70) but I wanted to use up some Groupon bucks. I found out the Groupon also includes cupping ( $25 add-on normally) as well as Herbal Essential Oil and Hot Stone (I forget how much more those are) so it does make sense to buy and the oil and hot stones were the best parts of this massage? If I have to choose. It is a LOT to squeeze into 60 minutes though so I don't recommend going for all of this. Other reasons I do not recommend: -The first part of the massage, which was presumably "deep tissue," was very very far from it. It was just some rubbing - over a sheet. Hard to dig into those muscles when you're not even touching my body. I have had a LOT of massages in my life and this was basically just a waste of my time. Highly disapppointing. But at least it wasn't painful! -Then suddenly, the sheet was pulled down and a whole lot of oil poured all over my back. Surprise! Ahha, she is going to touch me! Still no deep tissue massage but at least this part was a little more soothing? -Not soothing: She used a super rough paper towel(!!) to wipe off a bunch of oil. Ouch. Seriously?! -Then surprise! Hot stones were suddenly applied and boy were they hot. She did move them around really fast so no one spot got too hot for too long but I can't say it was relaxing or therapeutic. -The cupping. First of all, the sign says 'Chinese cupping' so in my mind, it was the nice kind of cupping I get at acupuncture treatments (traditional Chinese medicine) with glass cups and a flame is used for suction to the back. I love this. I have also had cupping at a chiropractor that used plastic cups pumped up with air or something for the suction part. They hurt! But they are also hugely beneficial so I am good with the 10 minutes or so they are on, and my chiropractor asks how the pressure is, since it is adjustable). Guess which kind of cups they use here? I would laugh but it's too soon. So not only is it the painful kind, but she used SO MANY, like my whole back was covered and even the backs of my arms, ow. When my chiropractor does it, she is targeting certain muscles or areas- not just completely covering me with them. This woman asked how the pressure was and I said too much - so she let some go, but then re-added it! With more, I think! OK, that's not great but I'll go with it, I know they can be helpful and not super comfortable while on. So while they are on, she works on massaging my legs (not feet, those never got massaged). She goes to take them off finally, WOOHOO! She takes off like 3 and I think I made some sort of sound of relief and she asked if I was ok. I said Yes! This is the easy part! Which she did not understand...or did she? I don't know because at this point she just LEFT THE ROOM without removing the rest! Serious pain by now. I waited for a little while but she did not reappear...I needed them off. I couldn't reach to take them off myself or even stand up because they were basically holding my muscles hostage so it hurt even to lift my head up. So I just started saying Hello?! increasingly loudly...she didn't return. Finally I was yelling Help!! I have never, ever in my life needed to yell for help during a massage or cupping experience. Ever. Finally she came in and seemed kind of annoyed that I had yelled...like it was normal for her to just leave instead of removing the cups. I don't know why I let her continue the massage at this point but I did and it was just more dumb rubbing. I have never been so happy to leave a massage place. My back hurt when I left - it did not hurt when I came in. I drove home and immediately took a shower to get rid of the rest of the oil and soothe my inflamed back. I am fine with having cupping circles (and believe me, I have A LOT) but around each circle, there is also an indentation where the stupid plastic cup was - and that should NOT be there. I requested focus on shoulders and feet but my feet didn't get touched and the massage was rough and rushed. Charged $75 for a 60 min "full body" massage and when I asked why it was so much when I didn't even get what I requested, the lady seemed like she didn't understand. Didn't want to hold up the line or cause a scene, communication seemed futile regardless. There were quite a few ppl waiting in the lobby, and a lot of good reviews, so maybe I just got "fluked" twice, left both times feeling the opposite of how you should be feeling after a proper massage. read more

This is the second time I have come to Sparks Massage and Reflexology. The first time I had an incredible massage experience and came out very relaxed. Their prices are more than fair and you can always get an appointment same day or next day. This time was decent, but unfortunately did not live up to the previous experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I usually just opt for an hour massage and add on the cbd oil/lotion. On this visit, the lady came in and her portable speaker was incredibly loud but she eventually turned it down. Throughout the massage, it started dying as it wasn't fully charged which was quite disruptive to a relaxing atmosphere. She eventually switched the music to just her phone speaker - again, not very relaxing. The massage itself was okay, she did however push hard in some strange places and I actually left feeling very sore. She spent so much time on my backside that I never got the chance to flip over for the face/upper shoulders portion which was quite disappointing and strange. However, the hot stones are an excellent addition and I thoroughly enjoyed that portion. It felt like paying $100 to get my hair washed 3x and poorly blow dried for an hour. No massage of any kind unless you count the 1 min of hitting my back at the end as a massage then fine. All of that to say that if i left with just that I wouldn't be writing this, its when i handed my masseuse his tip, he cursed infront of me and asked me for more, side note i gave him 20%. I work in the hospitality industry, i understand tipping hence why i do my best to give 20% at the minimum but cursing at me for not getting what you expected is one way to ruin someones day. DO NOT GO HERE! IT IS NOT SAFE!!! I came in for a 60 minute massage yesterday. The place looked unassuming and relatively clean. My hubby had purchased a Groupon for me for Valentine's Day for a massage so I was excited to try it out. I was taken to a room without filling out any paperwork or even giving my name. This was the first red flag in hindsight. Usually massage places ask you to fill out paperwork to list any injuries or sensitive areas on your body AND how hard/soft you like the pressure of your massage. This did not happen. I was just put into a room and told to undress down to my underpants. So I did. Up to this point I hadn't even met the massage therapist, so as I lay there waiting for the person to come in while basically naked under the sheet, I was a little nervous. Finally a woman came in. She said hi, but that was it. No name. Just hi. Then she started making lots of noise and setting things in places...not the usual ambiance for a massage place. Usually it's calm and peaceful. This was red flag number two. She seemed rushed and angry and inconvenienced but since I was there already and the massage was a gift, I hoped for the best. The next hour was one of the most painful experiences of my life! This woman had NO idea how to massage people and she pressed on sensitive places that normally don't get pressed on - the veins in my neck, my eye sockets, the bones in my back, deep in the armpits and breast tissue - it was like she had either no clue what she was doing OR she was pushing on these places to intentionally cause pain. It asked MULTIPLE TIMES for her to be gentler and softer but she did not change. She would acknowledge me and keep going. I was in literal tears! At one point I told her I had a bruise on my foot and told her very firmly to be careful and she pushed on it intentionally incredibly hard...so hard that I unintentionally kicked her because it hurt so bad. She responded with...and I'm not even kidding...with punching me with closed fists multiple times in my thigh and side. I immediately ran out of there terrified. On my way out, I told the lady in the front that my massage therapist hurt me and that a massage should not be painful. She just looked at me and said sorry. The massage therapist I had did not speak English so I don't think she understood me when I told her she was hurting me. Then she shouldn't be massaging people!!! She can really hurt someone. I have scratches from where she dug in her nails and drew blood and bruises all over my body. I can barely move today because I am in so much pain. My sister suggested that I report it somewhere and I plan to. I understand that massages can sometimes be painful but this was beyond that. You shouldn't draw blood. You shouldn't be able to bruise people. I have a high pain tolerance that is proven by the over 15 surgeries I've had all over my body and the pain I endured throughout this experience surpassed that. This is NOT ok and bordered on criminal. I called today to complain to the owner and was told to call back on Tuesday. The lady on the phone referred to me as the "Groupon Girl". Perhaps that's why I received the beating that I did. If they don't want to take Groupons, then don't. But don't physically harm people just because they brought in a Groupon. Wow, one of the best therapeutic massage with cupping (my first time) I've had. My back was all kinds of tense and had pain/issues with my right shoulder and left lower back/hip and thigh. I didn't realize how tight my back was until my therapist (male) mentioned it to me. The facilities was nothing what I expected. There was a row of private rooms and was very well lit and immaculate clean. I highlight the private rooms because I have gone to similar massage places where privacy was sectioned off with curtain rods and drapes. This was in San Jose, Ca and in Las Vegas. I originally went in for just the massage with the included hot stones but the receptionist spoke highly of the cupping technique. She raved that it was oh so good so I went for it knowing I needed the help. The start of the session was pretty standard. He didn't ask me what my concerns were but I believe he knew as he started to work on my back. He was firm but not in a painful way. When he got to a tender spot on my left calf, he knew and told me he would be more soft. The cupping was intense for a little bit. Your skin tightens as the suctions are applied and you feel a sort of pinch. About 15 cups or so total. I had to breath through the process with the cupping as I said it got intense for a few minutes when he left the room for a brief period. I'll be dang but so far my shoulder feels good and also my lower back and hip. If I am able to, I will edit with an update. I will definitely be back to this location as the parking lot is not gnarly and hectic like some of the other massage spots in town. Edit to add: today, the following day from the massage, I felt no achy-ness like from a deep deep massage so the firm-Swedish approach for my ailment was optimal. This place isn't snooty, its clean, decent decor, and quiet for the most part. I walked-in recently and they were booked up, but was asked to wait about 15 minutes while they call their other location for someone to come by and take care of me. That person came, gave me a very "strong" massage, and I think I fell a sleep for a quick minute or two. 1. They actually went out of their way to get someone to come in to take care of me 2. I've been a regular here since it opened. The actions of the front desk and the masseuse were very upsetting and I don't think I'll be returning. I received a text message about a $10 off coupon you can redeem for your birthday which I thought was really cool. I booked a massage over the phone for $130 dollars and an add on of cupping for $20. The same thing I booked last month when I was here. The massage was great even though it started late and ended early. Whatever, no big deal. My masseuse always does a good job. The problem was when I went to pay. So my total was $140 which included the $10 off birthday coupon. I handed the front desk women $170 in cash. A $100 dollar bill, a $50 dollar bill, and a $20 dollar bill. She held up the $20 and looked confused and asked if this is for the masseuse. I said yes and she said "for 2hrs?" The masseuse got very angry, grabbed the money from her, and yelled 2 hours and stormed off. I asked what the problem was and the front desk said it's a low tip. Now correct me if I'm wrong, $30 dollars is 20% of $150. The front desk women said you only gave her $20. When I tried to explain that the $50 needed to be broken to give her the extra $10 she acted like she didn't understand. After going back and forth, she finally understood and added the discount from my phone after saying I didn't redeem it correctly. She said the masseuse will now be happy. Maybe it was a language barrier or an app issue with redeeming the coupons but to be treated like that on my birthday was not cool. I really enjoyed this place. A tad bit different than the other massage parlors because they stretched out my limbs which I was not expecting, but it felt really good. The front desk rep was friendly and welcoming. After my massage, she was dealing with an aggressive customer and she dealt it with poise. Respectful and calmly. I got a full body massage with medium pressure. While Moon (my masseuse) used her elbows, it did hurt, but it released a lot of tension. I'm glad I didn't get deep which I usually like. Was our first visit at this place for a couple's massage. Purchased it through Groupon: 90-Minute Facial and Massage Spa Package (currently it shows value of $440 and could be purchased for $278). If you check the website, the value of the package would be around $300, so it makes overstatement, especially that there are no other amenities included or separate dressing room. We enjoyed the massage and signature facial (very basic, though). I hate giving bad reviews especially for seemingly pleasant places.. But, here's what happened tonight...my husband and I came in for foot massages. They had no record of our appointment but no worries, took us in right away. They also up sold us by $5 to the $45 foot/back massage combo. Even better, so we thought... We got a couples room, also great! The interior was very clean and professional looking. Then for me, it went downhill. Bottom line, there is NO way this individual was trained in massage at all, let alone licensed...she began my foot and back massage by rubbing my FACE with BABY OIL, squishing my cheeks, nose and chin oddly and randomly, this way and that. No rhyme or reason and every few strokes interjected a vigorously uncomfortable two handed full head scratch like I was a large breed dog she was fond of. After several minutes of this and oil all over my face I asked her to please stop the scratching. My scalp was hurting at this point. She then moved onto the foot massage portion. There was absolutely zero reflexology. Not surprised. Just more aimless, vigorous rubbing this way and that. No pressure points, no skill or training. She rubbed hot hot hot stones on my legs making sure to massage my ANKLE BONES with the rocks too, I guess she thought that would feel excellent. During the massage the door was left open and three times someone popped in to have a FULL conversation with the women giving us our massages. Then...my therapist passed gas. Not a little toot, but like a massive, long, wet one. It took everything in us not to laugh out loud. I have no idea who was more mortified. Free aromatherapy, I suppose?! Last, was the back massage. This was the least bad part but as you know, at this point that's not saying much. In contrast, my husband thought his lady and massage was great. So...I will not be going here ever again and was reminded you get what you pay for. But, I think my husband might visit once more, LOL. Moral of the story, believe the one star reviews for this place, appointments not booked, untrained massage therapists, sessions interrupted multiple times...wish I had headed those reviews I read! read more
