I apologized profusely for my mistake when they showed up (on time), showed them the other company's contract and said - it's totally ok to walk away, my mistake. But there was something about their professionalism that struck us. They listened to, and addressed all of our requests, laid out the details of the project and replied in a timely manner. I cannot say enough about Excelsior roofing. Eduardo came out to do an assessment of a leak we have in our home and to see where it was coming from. Eduardo was polite, professional, efficient, and transparent. He assessed our situation and let us know there was nothing that showed any areas of need for repair or any sources of the leak. He did a very thorough and detailed assessment of our roof and siding of our house going up to look at everything multiple times before he left. He confirmed our roof looked good as did previous work by a different company we used. This honesty and transparency is so appreciated and you can tell he genuinely just wanted to help us. He even told me a few things to do to try and see where the solution may be including a water test which he said his company did not do but offered a way we could get it done. He did not plug any third party vendors just recommended a method we could have a team were already using for gardening services who likely could do it. If I could give them an 11/10 review I would. In my humble opinion I feel it can be difficult to know if you are getting the whole picture whether it be for cars, house issues, etc when you ask a company to do an assessment especially in an area where I am not an expert (which I am definitely not in roofing). I didn't need emergency roof work but my roof was 22 years old & I didn't want to wait for it to get older & leak. I did a lot of research regarding the different roof materials (i.e. modified bitumen, TPO, foam, etc.). & watched a lot of TikToc & YouTube videos on roofing & the difference in the materials. I received bids from all the usual suspects (Tom Lee, Advantage, Lawson, Mr. Roofer, Anderson Roofing, Sure Roofing, Redwood roofing), & Mark Powers; the owner of Excelsior was the most knowledgeable to me & Mark was a no BS kind of guy. I also had to replace 3 custom skylights & did research on manufacturers in the Bay Area & talked to Eduardo; who works with Mark, about the pro & cons of trying to replace my kitchen light skylight with one that opens again. One roofer was giving me a 100% markup on the skylights from the same manufacturer, & his cost for a modified bitumen roof were extremely marked up, so he was eliminated. After putting together an Excel spreadsheet with all the fixed and variable cost from each bid I researched the recommended approach & materials each roofer was recommending. At the end it came down to 2 roofers. I chose Excelsior because Mark knows his stuff, my last roof was tar & gravel & still had a couple of years of life in it & Excelsior still does tar & gravel. The workers completed my roof in 2 days & it was quite the production. My neighbors were quite impressed with the process. Until it rains & a few years pass I really won't know how my roof stands up but it looks great today. My brother who is an electrician & works in construction went up to look at the completed job & said it was good work. Last year during home remodel and the raining season, we identified a leak in our roof. We have an old fashioned gravel and tar roof and when started our search, we wanted a company that has experience in doing this type of roof. After doing some research we decided to go with Excelsior because based on the reviews and pictures posted, they had a lot of experience working on such roof and flat roofs and a lot of good reviews. Repair jobs usually don't have warranties but they said in case it leaks again in the same area in the upcoming raining season, they'd come back to do a free inspection. So there is some sort of guarantee on the job. We thus feel comfortable and confident about choosing them to do the job. After setting up an appointment for a quote, Eduardo showed up on time. After inspecting the leak area, he actually proposed a solution that he's quite confident about in solving our issue without spending a lot, comparing to the other quotes I got from other roofers. We decided to go with them given their extensive experience in working on such roofs. Mark was very easy to work with to get a job date scheduled. He's very responsive via emails. On the job day, the team showed up on time. The foreman Angel was very professional, courteous and very communicative. He talked to me about the job scope before they began and kept me posted throughout the whole process. The job itself didn't take long. When I went up to inspect the work, they showed me a couple more holes they found and sealed. Extra bonus! What impressed me the most was the honesty of these guys. Without me bringing it up, they unanimously proposed a solution, or an additional procedure they think should be added to the work "to be more safe" for getting rid of the leak, which was also suggested by other roofers when we were getting quotes. After bringing this to Mark's attention, he's very responsive too. I hope the work we did this month would thoroughly fix the leak problem. But in case we need to do that additional procedure later this year in case the leak comes back, Mark agreed to come out here and help us again. I had my tile roof done about 2 months ago. Mark, the owner, did the inspection, and gave me a decent estimate. He was also the only one out of three roof contractors that gave me options as far as what I can do to fix my roofing problems. BTW, I also contacted Tom Lee Roofing, and they gave me a decent estimate, but they did not come close to Excelsior as far as services promised. The following list is the reason why I chose Excelsior: 1) Unionized workers 2) Clean tear-down (the cleanest contractor I've ever had) 3) Quick work (2 days and the roof was done) 4) Matched existing tiles w/ new tiles 5) Permit work 6) Added additional trimming like painted cement to match the tiles, and copper sidings to accentuate roof line. The only reason I gave Excelsior a 4-star rating instead of 5 is because they were also the most expensive. They came in $500 over Tom Lee's. Regardless, I'd use Excelsior again for all my roofing needs. read more

Thought we had already submitted a review for Excelsior, but hadn't. A couple of years ago they installed two skylights and one copper & glass atrium cover. Great job. No water or air leaks and they look nice. Used to have louvered windows in these which were a royal pain, but the new skylights open without any junky/dirty louvers. A few months ago they ripped out our old roof down to the deck and replaced it. Copper was used instead of galvanized metal. The team did a wonderful job. No leaks & looks gorgeous. When we called them they came out and said our roof was bad, they didn't use that type of material (how'd it get up there as one piece and covering the drain then??), etc etc. Quoted us a new roof and refused responsibility. NOTHING is wrong with our roof as indicated by several other companies that have been out, AND the lack of leaking once we opened up the roof drain by cutting out the material that they left there. Another extremely positive experience with Excelsior Roofing. Some months ago I asked them to check my roof out prior to getting my house painted. At that moment, they told me things looked fine, but to call if anything arose. I noticed some staining a couple of weeks ago on my kitchen ceiling and asked them to come back and check it out. They said a crack had opened up, which they repaired very promptly with a temporary patch during a rainstorm (!!!), and then they came back today to finish repairing it and to reseal the edges of the rest of the roof at my request.
